Very nice - I expect there'll be some interesting mixes on there too. If you don't already have it, I'd recommend "Pearl's Girl", which has a bit of a drum 'n' bass flavour, and is also on their "Second Toughest in the Infants" album. One of my favourites, and one to make your neighbours fall out with you :)
My Fair Lady is a bit confusing.
The Film score was Marni Nixon dubbing over Audrey Hepburn. Andre Previn orchestrated it. Was it good, Grant?
We had the Broadway Stage show version with Julie Andrews.

Think The Nice, mixed with ELP and early Deep Purple. Sadly they only produced this one album, it is quite a classic. Mick Underwood(drums) was friends with Ritchie Blackmore(Deep Purple) and the Quatermass song "Black Sheep of the Family" was the first track to be recorded by Rainbow, having been rejected for the Deep Purple album Stormbringer.

Now that my speakers have been forced back against the wall by the piggin' Christmas tree, the finer details of sound reproduction have gone out the window. But Mrs. P has left the house for a couple of hours, so I am playing the music louder than I ever have :eek: 250W into 98dB sensitivity = f___ng loud!
So first off was Underworld's "Second Toughest in the Infants" and is followed by their "A Hundred Days Off" album. My tinnitus will thank me later :) Might go with Future Sound of London's "ISDN" next if she's not back by then.

Go to Discogs.com find the album your playing, click on the small picture of the album cover and this will display it bigger. Right mouse click on the cover, and select copy picture link address, go to AOS thread post and select picture symbol, and right mouse click in the link address box, and select paste, then click ok, when you preview or save the posting the album cover should appear, as if by magic. Simples[emoji2]

Grant, if you haven't already seen it, I would heartily recommend "Jeff Beck's Rock 'n' Roll Party" - I think you would really enjoy it :) Guests include Brian Seltzer (Stray Cats), Imelda May on great form, and others (whose names escape me). You can just tell they were have a great time with it :) And watch out for Steve Van Zandt and Bowie in the audience.
I might have to seek out a copy, been a few years since I last saw it.

Pretty dark, even by massive Attack's standards. Not played that in ages. TV series "Luther" used one of the tracks for their theme music iirc. Suited the bleakness of the programme.

A bit of a classic Motown collection this one, I first heard it in '69 when my cousin bought it, I loved all the tracks and still do, I was 11 at the time. This copy was a little noisy but after a good ultrasonic clean has come up like new, and great dynamics.

Lost songs from the evacuated Hebridean archipelago of St Kilda have been discovered and brought to life on a new album featuring renowned composers including Sir James MacMillan.
It all began when Trevor Morrison sat down at the piano in Edinburgh's Silverlea Care Home 10 years ago and began to play.
The magic did not go unnoticed.
The tunes were simple, naive even, but memorable and with an extraordinary emotional depth.
As a 10-year-old child on the west coast island of Bute during World War Two, Trevor had been taught piano by a former resident of St Kilda.
His teacher had left the remote archipelago in the outer Hebrides when they were evacuated in 1930.
Somehow, a lifetime later and in failing health, Trevor managed to remember the tunes his teacher had shown him.
Stuart McKenzie, who had been volunteering in the care home, offered to record them.
"He played the most astonishing tunes. They were so different. Complicated, but simple," Mr McKenzie says.
"I went home, got my computer, downloaded a bit of software and went along to a local electrical store and paid £3 for a microphone we could put down the back of the piano for him. And away he went."
Trevor died in 2012, but the recordings eventually got passed on to Decca Records, which also saw the magic and commissioned a number of top composers to develop the tunes along with the Scottish Festival Orchestra.
The end result is a whole album entitled The Lost Songs of St Kilda, featuring some of Trevor Morrison's solo recordings in their pure form, others mixed in with orchestral arrangements and some completely new pieces inspired by the music.
Composer Sir James MacMillan is one of the contributors.
At his home overlooking the Firth of Clyde, James MacMillan can just about see the island of Bute where as a boy Trevor Morrison learned the songs.

I put on Ian Dury, new boots...
Potential son in law then had a look at my vinyl and put on some Cream (extolling virtues of Ginger Baker, I knew that I really liked him:))
Youngest daughter then put on Fleetwood Mac, Rumours - made me realise that we have bought them up well
short diversion to Fleetwood Mac "landslide" from laptop - didn't realise it was my youngest daughters favourite track, or that I don't have it on vinyl(visit to eBay called for).
Now listening to Joni Mitchell "dog eat dog" - again I hadn't realised that my youngest (20 years) likes Joni :cool:
I think today could be dominated by listening to records (crap on tv and new arm cable has really bought some renewed interest/clarity to the collection)

This arrived for Christmas, and it is superb, March Bolan was certainly a clever chap, I was a fan 'Ride a White Swan' onwards ar the time. This first Tyrannosaurus Rex album even though using natural instruments clearly shows the direction he was going. Probably one of the first Psychedelic Rock albums along with Pink Floyd. The second record is previously un-released ,material from the time and some Peel Sessions. This re-release is very good quality, sound and sleeve, well worth getting.

Once again a superb re-release by Back to Black SQ excellent as is sleeve, worth every penny!
If you want a seminal Glam/Pop/Psyche rock album then this is the one, it is what set it all up for the 70's IMHO.

Electric Warrior was the first album I ever bought, cost me £2.10 at Brady's Records. Re-purchased it about 5 years ago, thinking it would just be a bit of nostalgia. Not so, still sounds great, and excellent pressing. Gets played quite often :) My copy is on Reprise, wish it was like yours with the Marc/Mickey label, same as they did on 1971's Jeepster/Life's a Gas 7" single which I also had. Great stuff.
I seem to remember that my original copy had a very nice inner sleeve with a cleverly drawn pic of Marc on one side, and Mickey on the other. Unless I dreamt it.
I used to have my hair a bit like Marc's. but I couldn't get it quite curly enough :(

Yeah, my step dad had similar views on glam rock, "Is it a boy or a girl?", and "Puffs, the lot of them", declared from his armchair, with his cardigan and all-day shirt and tie. Well, his dislike of my music tastes didn't matter to me, and still wouldn't. We like what we like.
Fair enough about the snubbing, I blame the booze and cocaine. Bowie looked like he was going a similar way in the mid 70s, but thankfully came out the other side.

Just working through my Christmas pressies right now. Started with The Eagles' "Hell Freezes Over", then Talk Talk "The Colour of Spring", and now ELP's "Trilogy". Bit disappointed with that one - great music, well produced, but pressing is shitter than shit spread onto a shit sandwich with a turd side salad. It was a gift so I'll have to see about sending it back. Simpler if I'd bought it from a record shop :(

Marc Bolan and T Rex were IMO utter crap, as was much of the 'glam' rock of the late '60s and early '70s. Marc Bolan was an arrogant self-centred creep, who later snubbed anyone who had helped him in his career - specifically John Peel and Michael Eavis (of Glastonbury Festival fame).
Have to disagree with you vehemently, Barry. Not sure about him snubbing JP or Eavis, news to me. I can understand why older people back then didn't like him, my parents hated him, as he was perceived as an odd gender-bender and a bad influence.
However putting that aside musically he was pretty innovative and wrote some pretty good songs, quite a few major artists have covered them although I suspect most younger people would not even know Bolan wrote them, to name a few artists - Souxie and the Banshees, Bauhaus, Nick Cave, Guns N' Roses, U2, Elton John, Joan Jett, Nena and Todd Rundgren. Also his music is used to this day a lot in films. He lost his way a bit in the mid 70's, which is not surprising after his rise to fame in a relatively short time and problems in his personal life, by 1977 he was on his way back, touring taking the Damned along as a supporting act, quite a thing to do in the midst of the punk era.
As a member of T. Rex, Bolan was posthumously inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2020.[6]
Perhaps you should give him another go.:D

I'll see about putting it through an RCM - Mike (Jac Hawk) has offered to do this for me in the past, I might just take him up on that. I have heard that new pressings aren't necessarily free of groove-crap.
Very much enjoying the Eagles album, doesn't sound quite like on your set up, but then I knew it wouldn't. Still great though :)
I have a couple of Peter Gabriel half speed remasters that are absolutely dreadful - came out of the inner sleeve looking like they’d been laid on a very dusty floor and pushed around with a muddy boot :(
Hell freezes over - sound quality for a live album up there with the best - glad you’re enjoying it :)

May be the best live recording I have now, perhaps only bettered by my Hugh Masekela "Hope" album. But it's a close thing :)
I often find I don’t necessarily have to like the artist if the SQ is top notch - you can’t beat a well made album:)

I sometimes find this with live shows on Sky Arts - I drop upon a gig by someone I'm not fussed about, but top notch sound engineering keeps me watching, and I find I quite like them after all :)

Love Affair: The Everlasting Love Affair CD reish but the '68 CBS album is on the shelf..
Easy to dismiss because of the pop hits of Everlasting Love and Rainbow Valley but if you appreciate Deep Purple's 1st album you should really like this..

IMO it is very good on SQ front, it is in the top 100 albums list of all time, so if you want some Bob but not all its a good one.

Well I ordered "Museum Of Consciousness", a supposedly NM/NM copy at £98 with tracked postage and paid for it with Paypal at the end of November on CDandLP from a guy in France, it was confirmed as paid and a few days later after asking he confirmed it was sent and a La Poste tracking number was posted on the CDandLP, this never worked La Poste said it was not recognised. Further correspondence and he said he need to check the number on the receipt at his mothers, but the record definitely sent. Then a few days later he pm'd "my probleme today is that cd lp sent me a message telling me not to ship as you did not pay!!!!nice try:///" I replied saying I had proof of payment and asked if he had he meant the message for someone else. I have heard nothing since but I have managed to contact CDandLP, which is not at all easy, they have raised a claim on the order and asked I wait to the 3 January before taking action.
To say I am pissed off is an understatement, I presume that whole thing is a scam, but hopefully I will get my money back, I doubt I will ever use CDandLP again.

Buying 'best of' compilations allows me to have, IMO, all of the better tracks without the padding or fillers that come with the separate LPs. Some argue that LPs are put together as a whole and that the tracks should be listened to in the order the artist(s) intended, but IMO that applies to a very few LPs. Playing 'Best of' collections allows me to be lazy and not to have to choose a specific LP by that artist . :D
It's genre independent: I have the 'best of': The Police; Pink Floyd; Stevie Wonder; Led Zeppelin; Nick Cave; Diana Ross; Elton John; The Animals; Rolling Stones; Bob Dylan; Family; James Brown, ..... . And 'Legend'. :)

I don't know, I say I'm "not a fan", but out of your list alone I have compilations by The Police, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Elton John, Rolling Stones Bob Dylan and James Brown. I could say that I limit compilations purchases to artists I'm not fussed about but the aforementioned list shows that clearly isn't so :doh:
I should have added that most of the 'best of' compilation CDs I have were picked up cheap in charity shops. My partner still has her own place, and since we also spend time there, many of the compilation discs are housed and played on her system chez elle.
It is far easier and more convenient to put on the 'best of' The Strangers, Velvet Underground, Dionne Warwick, Eddie Grant or Squeeze, for example, than to have to select a particular LP by the artists.
Only problem with 'best of' albums (on vinyl at least) is that the tracks tend to sound worse than on the original albums, due to cramming more of them onto a smaller area of groove space. CD 'best of' compilations often aren't that much better, also sometimes due to inferior standards of production, so there's often a sonic penalty to pay for the convenience.
However, I have to say that if I really like a particular group or solo artist then I generally like the vast majority of their output, so owning the original albums isn't a problem, as for me there won't be many 'duff' tracks:)
Different if I only like them a bit.

There is a difference between Greatest Hits and Label Samplers. Of the latter, the ones which were formative in my musical tastes were: 'The Rock Machine Turns You On' (CBS); 'You Can All Join In' (Island Records) and 'Backtrack' (Track Records). Thanks to them I was introduced to so many artist(e)s whose work forms a significant part of my collection.
The other thing is if you embrace streaming, then you can simply make playlists of all your favourite tracks from various albums, and worry not about owning extra albums for 'nothing'!;)
Me thinks some of our resident 'dinosaurs' need dragging, kicking and screaming into the 21st century with some aspects of their hi-fi and music hobby!:ner:

I was doing that 40 years ago with cassette tapes. I could do it today with CD-R but can't really be bothered.
Lol - so was I, and indeed still am (especially with the recent addition of the Tandberg)! However, it's a damn sight easier on a screen, clicking a mouse, when streaming music files and creating compilations - zero effort:)

Happy told me when she was here that she'd like you to embrace modern technology more and stream music. It's a piece of piss to do, mate, and trust me a great addition to an existing vinyl and CD collection/replay system.

I don’t really do streaming I’m almost 100% vinyl - very occasionally have a bit of Spotify on the phone in the Van :eyebrows:
You can rip your vinyl collection onto a streaming set-up, simply for when it's more convenient to listen to the music that way, and keep playing it 'properly' for serious listening;)
The point being is that there are many ways to skin a cat, as it were....:)

Two that I remember from my youth are "Fill Your Head With Rock" and "The Age of Atlantic". There will be others, but my memory of the early 70s is a bit fuzzy :)

Only thing with me is that I almost never buy 'pop' records from charity shops, as they're almost never in acceptable condition (I'm *super* fussy in that respect). Classical or jazz only, as they tend to be well-looked after. So any second-hand 'pop' (rock, etc) albums I own have been bought from record shops, where I've paid decent money for examples in near-mint condition:)
Do you own a professional record cleaner, btw? I wouldn't entertain buying second-hand vinyl otherwise...

My car boot/charity shop purchases are limited to CD, with the odd s/h vinyl coming from record shops where I can see the condition before buying. I've risked the odd purchase online, (ex+ or nm) and so far I've been lucky, touch wood :)

Yeah, CDs are generally fine, although I certainly wouldn't entertain any that were scratched. RCMs, though, are a vital tool in the arsenal of any serious vinyl enthusiast - jeez, even brand new records are rarely 'clean'...

This turned up today, I purchased it on recommendation by a Grant(Struth), and as I am a sucker for Prog Rock, I found a relatively well priced NM/NM copy, I already have their first album which is great. It seems copies of this can fetch quite a lot. On first listen it is good musically with some interesting sound effects used on some tracks, different to their first album but certainly a good one.
