Take care Adrian - I learnt this evening that the daughter of my nearest neighbour has Covid, though being young hopefully won't be badly affected, if at all.

Thanks Barry, it is a very nasty virus IMO and anyone with any common sense should take steps to avoid catching it as is practically possible. Sue’s boss who is 40 is still quite unwell after 5 weeks and he is a very fit active chap, but is struggling big time.

I own up to being a bit of a Hawkwind hippy, I even met them in their line at the time at a Hawkfest, I think 2012, also met Stacia and had a big hug from her, with her clothes on[emoji4]

Prefer their earlier space rituals but some of the later galactic musings are good, Alien 4 is worth a listen, released on their 25th anniversary tour. [emoji89]

Faust Tapes! The sight of that cover takes me back (to about 1973). We all had a copy, but then it was only 49p iirc. other budget belters from the 70s were 'Relics' (99p) and a reggae compilation called 'The Front Line' which was also 99p and worth every penny.

Felt like something a bit different this morning, audibly I hasten to add, so I put this on on for a spin.

Before you all snigger and sneer it is actually very good, lovely recording with lush presentation of the band, some wonderful trumpet sections and a great relaxed big band feel but so in time. Oh and by the way Bert won a Golden Globe-Award for his composition “Strangers In The Night”. Stars like Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, Shirley Bassey, Caterina Valente, Engelbert, Dean Martin, Nat King Cole, Sammy Davis Jr., Duke Ellington and Count Basie were successful with Kaempfert’s compositions.

While generally enthusiastic, critical reception to the debut album of Yorkshire singer/songwriter Findlay Brown was also tempered by the inclusion of "Come Home" in a credit card ad, as well as by suspicions of mythomania on the artist's promo bio. These lead skeptics to take Brown's claims at sincerity with a pinch of salt. For all of those not living in the U.K. or indifferent to the finicky nature of the British music press and industry, you can only welcome Separated by the Sea with open arms. Since the early '90s there has been a steady renaissance of the introspective, ambitious singer/songwriter: Will Oldham, Cat Power, Ron Sexsmith, M. Ward, Iron & Wine, Sufjan Stevens, the list could go on an on. Indeed, in these past few years, artists working on that vein seem to be mushrooming just about everywhere, from Sweden to Argentina. It is fair to assume that only a few of this wave of new troubadours will prove as compelling as the artists mentioned above. Most are more accomplished than truly original, and it is often easy to get them confused. That, however, should not prevent you from recognizing and enjoying the really good new albums that the genre seems to be issuing month after month. Findlay Brown's Separated by the Sea is an excellent case in point. The influences largely point to the classic early-'70s songwriter acts such as Paul Simon, Nick Drake, Cat Stevens, or Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young. These are both obvious choices and their mark is so much in evidence throughout Separated by the Sea that the record could be called a revelation. Still, the quality of its songs cannot be denied, either. "I Will (Ghost Ship)," "Down Among the Dead Men," and "Twin Green Pram," to name a few highlights of a thoroughly consistent album, all manage to be immediately affecting and still remain elusive enough to linger in the listener's memory. Simian's Simon Lord production unobtrusively wraps the album in a contemporary sonic veneer, but it is Brown's voice that renders the material so emotionally rewarding. Almost always doubling himself in different registers, as if trying to be both Simon & Garfunkel, his vocals and haunting harmonies set Findlay Brown apart from the rest of the singer/songwriting crowd. His lyrics, on the other hand, often promise more than what they actually deliver. One of the best albums of its genre in 2007, Separated by the Sea is a superb collection of contemporary British folk songs, and hopefully the promise of more and even better things from Findlay Brown.

Hi, it is pretty good, leans much more to jazz fusion, there are some quite famous jazz musicians on it. Waka/jawaka apparently was Zappa’s reference to the rhythm for ‘Big Swifty’ although he also said it was letters spelt from a Ouija board" session.

Been playing with speaker isolation this morning using Husdons pads under the Oak platforms I have my speakers sat on, seems to have tightened things up in the lower registers and opened detail up a bit more.:) Been listening to some tracks from these old favourites to evaluate.

I bought the first two DD albums on Remastered CD when me and the (now) Wife first got together as her original LPs had seen some use.
They are decent musicians and the non-single album tracks are not typical filler.
I'll perhaps give this a try later.

Meanwhile here after a morning filled with sorting and tidying to a Spotify Acid Techno and Old School Hardcore soundtrack, it is onto 'Bibio' again on Spotify whilst I work on my computer.

No, it's the album, which is pretty much an extra long 12" single. Just a lot of variations around its core song of the same name.

Much as I like it, I do prefer her "Compass Point Trilogy", which is "Warm Leatherette", Living My Life" and "Nightclubbing", produced by Chris Blackwell and with Sly Dunbar and Robbie Shakespeare doing the drums and bass.

Great album.
I bought this after seeing Tony on 'Later' a few years back.
It got a few listens after purchase before slipping to the bottom of the list, until one day in 2019 where it just clicked and I couldn't get enough of it. His voice had aged to the point where far from sounding weak it had almost a strength where he offered a lifetime of experience for those willing to listen.
I know where my copy is and I'll have to dig it out.

This was an impulse buy when visiting 'Sound Knowledge' in Marlborough probably around the time the album was released.
I was never entirely sure about Goldfrapp but in theory it has all the right ingredients for me as I like her voice and the music is suitable synth lead electronica with a retro feel.

Maybe it didn't get played that much as the Mrs didn't like it but I am enjoying it today.

I miss our trips to 'Sound Knowledge' combined with long weekends in Marlborough a couple of times a year; changes in job, circumstances and more recently some beer virus have put a hold on it.
