Spinning now, always brings a grin to my face, their defining moment, IMO.

Looks interesting Grant. Is it works by Gershwin as performed by Oleta Adams, Cher, Elton John, Sinead O'Connor, Sting etc.?

Felt like a relax, I know a lot of people pooh-pooh these guys but they actually did do some rather good stuff, all their albums are beautifully recorded and well produced, this is probably my favourite, Sirius and Bamba are also very good.

I think I used to have this one, if it's got Bono guesting on one track ("In a Lifetime"). I quite liked it. These days I just have a best of on CD.

Untitled? I thought it was called "Zofo", or "The Runes" Album.

AJSki2fly

Well I am not sure, back in the day it was Led Zep album four, then someone coined Runes because of the symbols, as far as I am aware it was never marketed as that, I seem to remember at some point there was speculation that each symbol represented a band member, who knows?

Looks like they are unwilling or unable to explain the symbols, but that's ok - it'll always be Led Zep Four to me :)

I thought I'd put some Glam Rock on especially for Barry!

Seriously though I am so lucky to have found a copy of this at a price I can afford (£36 including post all the way from Finland, a lot of sellers are asking silly prices). I think it is possibly my favourite KC album, not that most are pretty good, in this line up they seem to encapsulate their early feeling along with a rawness and edginess, Adrian Belew does an outstanding job on vocals, some of the tracks have an awesome power and presence hard to describe, it needs to be experienced. No everyone cup of tea but really worth a listen. The 4th side also has 4 tracks from the Vroom EP.

Gong is not 'Glam Rock', it's just that I find Daevid Allen a bit too twee and whimsical; he was much better IMO when he played in Soft Machine. I used to have vinyl copies of 'Flying Teapot' and 'Camembert Electrique', but they didn't last long.

Steve Hillage is a great, Green is a classic album. I have several Steve Hackett albums and they are all good IMO, maybe you just don't like classic prog rock as well as glam rock.

To be fair, the only Steve hillage record I had was 'Motivation Radio' - it was OK, but no more than that, and not good enough to keep.

Regarding Steve Hackett, it's probably because I detest Genesis (in all their incarnations). :sofa:

I found that after their first LP, and when they dropped the "Transit Authority" from their title, Chicago went, IMO, 'middle of the road' and largely forgettable.

It is quite a weird one, I think it was the beginning of Rob Calvert's involvement and ultimately becoming the lead singer of Hawkwind. Rather sadly he passed away at only 43 years, he was a very talented writer, poet, and musician who collaborated with some quite well known people, including Brian Eno, Viv Stanshall, Michael Moorcock to name a few as well as fronting Hawkwind. He also suffered greatly from bi-polar disorder, and was sectioned at one time, he was reported as being challenging to work with. I saw him perform several times with Hawkwind and he was a fantastic, and somewhat eccentric front-man, just perfect for the band.

If I find that I no longer enjoy an LP as I once did, I will pass it on. During the '80s, there were a number of bands who produced what I would call "Ephemeral Pop (or Rock)". I bought loads of albums under that heading, enjoyed them, and then passed them on. They were not 'great music' by any means, and I don't miss them.

I have been buying albums for the last 55 years; tastes change - what I liked at the start, I don't necessarily like now.

It’s interesting how we differ, I still very much enjoy the familiar music I latched onto in the late 60s, 70s and 80s, some of which I have continued to listen to over the last 50 years. I have also discovered recently some I missed from those eras. I also like you have found more newer music, but have found that a challenge for the 00s and 10s, the 90s were a bit of right off for me as well with a few exceptions.

I have explored blues, jazz and classical more recently but only scratched the surface really.

I've got rid of stuff in the past that I thought I'd tired of, only to find myself regretting it years later. Unless or until I've outgrown my current music storage, I'll be avoiding any 'thinning out'.

This one always comes out on sunny days, it's just such a great bouncy happy feeling album, brings back memories of 2 weeks cruising round Devon & Cornwall in my best friends VW camper van, 2 months before I got married in Oct 1983, and surfing and windsurfing at Puttsborough Sands, Croyde Bay and Saunton Sands, great days!

By the way it's a great album, if you don't know it give it a listen, there follow up Cargo is also very good.

A record I haven't played in more than three decades, "Modern Times" by Latin Quarter. It was a casualty of bad storage and had a nice coating of white mould, making it unplayable. But a run through with a borrowed Moth RCM (thanks Macca) has brought it up like a new 'un :) I'd forgotten just how good "Radio Africa" is, which was the reason for buying the album. Didn't buy singles in those days.

Also got my ancient copy of "Roxy and Elsewhere" looking mint, but that'll get played another time when Mrs. P is out. She's not a big Zappa fan.

I'll have to (reluctantly) return Martin's RCM at some point soon, so guess what's at the top of my wish list now? I'm such a slow learner

Bargain price!

My 1974 girlfriend was quite a fan, even got to meet them backstage with her twin sister... Her constant practising of "Smoke on the Water" on her acoustic guitar drove me to distraction and almost ruined the song for me. Don't know why I put up with her for so long... oh wait, yes I do :eyebrows:

:D You could be right, I wasn't always this adorable :)

On a slightly related note, I went to measure a house of windows last week, and the 82 year old customer turns out to be the mother of the above-mentioned twins' best friend. I haven't seen this 'girl' since 1974, when she was 16, and she will now be 63. I'm curious to see what she is like now.

Me and her mum had a good chat and got on great. I just hope the daughter doesn't spoil it by telling her what I was like back then ;)

Agreed about "Space Ritual", wouldn't mind a good copy of that. I don't currently have any Hawkwind albums, but I have been thinking a bout getting that early one, with "Hurry on Sundown" :)

I know a lot of people turn their noses up at Hawkwind, saying they are niche and wierd but they are actually hugely successful, and have a big following here and in the USA.

Saw them headline 1976 at Reading Festival, absolutely superb, would be considered very non PC today, stage show in particular. A very underrated and overlooked band!
