Definitely!! A lot of remasters are just made louder and do nothing for stereo imaging and soundstage. My original copy of this album was from when it first came out - still sounds proper !!

Don’t get me wrong Abraxas is good but it is the start of a more commercial and produced sound IMO, whereas in the first you can here that they laid the tracks down with hardly any overdubs.

Borboletta is my other favourite it is the 6th but somehow the jazz/fusion element seems to return them back to the origins a bit.

Glad I (possibly) inspired you to give it a listen/buy. Its a great album; I saw him live on this tour and met him after the gig. This album isn't that easy to come by but, it really is unique in its sound and style; its from the very early 80's and the bands' music literally has a style all of its own that seems to blend everything of the time into one and its excellent (IMHO). :thumbsup:

I love it when something in music takes you by surprise, and this is one of those.

This is a record I was recently given by an older friend in a batch of about 40, all in exceptionally good condition. So I thought I would have a listen and I am a bit taken back by how good it is, yes it is "Big Band Sound" of the era but it is done exceptionally well. I looked up Max Greger and he was a very successful Saxophonist and Big Band leader, his first Sextet he put together in 1948, in 1963 he put together and ran a full time top orchestra for ZDF. So a very accomplished and respected musician. There are very interesting renditions of "Whiter Shader of Pale" and "We Can Work It Out", as well as several standards all arranged and played beautifully. I suppose a bit like James Last but sounds less gimmicky. It originally sold in old money for 14s/6d so must be early 70's. If you are into big band music and fancy giving it a try there are several copies at very reasonable prices on Discogs.

I've never really got on with Richard Hawley's work. His work is, IMO, not distinctive enough to interest me - but maybe I ought to give him another go.

I have to confess it doesn't do much for me, but that might be due to the fact that I thought it was a recording of a pop/rock 'opera' I saw on TV a few months ago, written by Sting about the rise and fall of shipbuilding he grew up with in Newcastle. Of the several artists performing in this broadcast was Jimmy Nail.

I was so impressed by the show, I immediately went on-line to buy what I thought was a recording. My mistake! :doh: No doubt I will find more in it that I will like upon further listening.

I wasn't aware of the TV thing you mention, I just heard one of the songs from the album a couple of times on the radio and liked it. So far it still is the only song I like, but Having heard the album just twice it may yet grow on me.

No, definitely not; to me, its awful, its got no life in it - a bit like Adele's music. There is nothing uplifting or good about it; when you listen to the other albums, they're just in a different league - a variety of styles, tempos, feel etc. In simple direct terms, ITS BORING!!!!!!

At one point I thought I was going to peg it and had to sit on the floor amid a jungle of flailing legs, and this beautiful stranger sat down with me and gave me a much appreciated head massage till I was fit to get up again :) Did this persuade me to rein it in at future nights? Sounds real proper - like you say, happy days!!!! I think "Fat Of The Land" was probably Prodigy's finest although I do like some of the other stuff aswell. I know some people might not agree with that but, that's what I think, so I'll leave it there; I don't wanna be a firestarter :D :D :thumbsup:

I ordered and received a copy off Ebay just before Christmas, and Mrs. P said "You're not opening that, it's for your birthday". Never saw it again, she thinks she chucked it out with all the wrapping paper, cardboard and associated Christmas crap.

Ordered another one a couple of weeks ago, and got a Whitney Houston record instead (seller's fault). Anyway, all sorted now, and is the record worth the effort? Definitely...

Mint condition, beautifully produced, a great selection of songs from one of my most favourite female vocalists. Eight quid inc. postage, and I would have paid 3 times that and still think it was a bargain. Happy bunny :)
