Hugh Laurie - Let Them Talk.
That's an interesting choice Mark. I think I prefer 'Let Them Talk' to his debut album 'Didn't it Rain?'
Not heard the first but I have Let them Talk and it is pretty decent album. Not perfect by any means but I have played it a few times

Hi Andr'e. I bet I'm one of the few on here who actually get where you're coming from with your music choices. I reckon most will have a quick listen, shrug their shoulders and move on. But I appreciate that kind of music and play it myself. Some of the recordings just sound stunning on my system.

Thanks Geoff i guess you are right.. I believe Techno/Trance is the last remaining gateway to the Psychedelic experience in music today..I'm not new to it i took a serious interest in the early 90's when all the serious labels were emerging. For me Eye-Q/Harthouse were serious stoof. Thanks again to Germany..Sven Väth was the brainchild & ofc the godfather of Techno..
Sound Quality from my 12" single collection is astounding..
Love that track, Andre! I play similar stuff regularly, on 12" singles, on the Techy, and it sounds sublime. Most of that music is also very well recorded and produced.
Geoff, the fact is that big Tannoys make dance music a whole load of fun to listen to! ;)

Yup. Amazing how many people just don't really know what a good pair of Tannoys can do on the end of the right system. Put them with the wrong amps (Naim?) etc. and they'll just sound bad. Get it right and there's really nothing else that comes close.
(although my recently picked up Philips full range speakers are wowing me at the moment. They are in the same league)
Check out Machinedrum, from the album 'Vapour City', probably not quite your thing, but it's one if you like some melodic trance/ambient beats:
YsxZjQ0uJm0#t=31
I play it on the system in the car (with 12" sub) and it sounds stunning!! :rave:

After the 2nd RB LP Graham Field went on with Andrew McCulloch {King Crimson 'Lizard' drummer} to form the band 'Fields' alser with Alan Barry..You might later recognise Andrew from the band Greenslade.
Fields did have that Rare Bird vibe going on.You probably looking at around £200 for a minto first issue complete with poster on orange CBS..

As to that pause on Flight , I ripped my UK issue for the Ipod a few years ago now, an I had an arse of a job separating the tracks/subtracks, was a real pleasure to replace it with the esoteric CD.. where did I get that from....:lol:

Hi
This is what I am listening to right now: https://soundcloud.com/the-farthingales
It's stuff from my son's band, The Farthingales.
They are a young, unsigned and trying to 'make it big' Indie/Rock band.
From a hifi fan's perspective (you will make your own mind up on the quality of the songs, musicianship, etc.) the Soundcloud recordings are worth listening to because they were recorded 'live' in a studio. There are no overdubs, no fancy production, instruments levels were not reduced, etc, etc. Each song was done in one take with all the musicians playing together. It is not that often that music is recorded this way these days. I was in the unusual position of being able to flit between the studio as the band were playing their songs and the engineer's studio. As a result, I can personally verify that what you hear on Soundcloud is literally what it sounded like with the band in the recording studio. It's as close to the real thing as you can get because the songs are 'production' free. As a result, the sound of the songs is a bit different than you may be used to. The whole process really made me appreciate just how much work is done to many recordings to make them sound far removed from what was actually going on in the studio. Now I am not implying any criticism here and I do not have any views on how a song should be produced. All I am saying is that the 4 songs you hear on Soundcloud via the above link are as they sounded on the day in that studio. I can personally verify that because I kept flitting between the two rooms whilst recording was being done. As a result the rawness of the recording might come as a bit of a shock. The drum cymbals - Zildjan - for instance are pretty prominent. The thing is, that's what happens in reality - cymbals are pretty intense and really grab your attention, especially when my son is pounding them! There is plenty of cymbal fade too.
The whole recording experience was a bit of an eye opener for me. I've got 100's of albums where, for instance, the drummer's cymbals have been pushed right to the back of the mix. It's only my opinion - I don't like that, I want to hear the band as they really sound.
Interestingly the sound file for each song was around 4 GB. For the Soundcloud recording, this was reduced to approximately 40 MB. So, whilst the Soundcloud songs are very realistic in their sound, there is a bit more that could be heard. This is not too much though as much of the original 4 GB file is at frequencies that a human cannot hear. I am going to get the 'full fat' versions of the songs soon and make them in full or part available free of charge to any AoS member who wants a listen.
So, in the meantime, turn the volume up and enjoy a level of recorded realism that is not too easy to come by, especially these days! Hell, you might even like the songs!!
You can also see the lads rehearsing some of their other songs here https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC0nu3wC2Y3xfvmHi6AHDJYw
Cheers
Steve

Yeah I understand where your coming from because I know that you like your details to be 100% cock on.. I'm not so fussed because I tend to think that a reissue is exactly that so long as the vinyl/playback is top knotch and the packaging isn't shoddy... that does for me...

none of the remasters are light and day (to my ears) but they are just that little bit cleaner and more detailed I think, all of mine have been 100% quiet as well.. The outtake extras are an interesting insight as well
