Yes, it's the Atlantic Years Mono boxset, which comprises 6 LP's and a 7" single.

I bought this on vinyl two or three years ago, and I have to say I was a bit disappointed. It wasn't quite what I was hoping for. I will revisit it at some point.

 Well, if you've read my posts since I came on here, you'll know that although I have/use many formats, my fav is CD, although I do still play my vinyls on the odd occasion. For me, the 70's and the very early 80's were my vinyl days - when CD first arrived (around 1983/4) I moved to CD.

The Flock Of Seaguls album really is a great album!!!

The Flock Of Seaguls album really is a great album!!! [emoji106]It's a very similar story for me, when CD arrived I switched to buying CD's, even selling vinyl and replacing them with the CD version as and when they were released, (in hindsight perhaps not the shruedest move with many first pressings sold for only a few pounds!!) love both mediums and fortunate to have cd and vinyl front ends which are equally enjoyable.

Not over-thrilled with SQ of the above, so went on dynamic range database. Where this scores from 02 to 07, so that's not great. Probably intended to sound good with crappy earbuds. So it's back to my last-century recordings.

I'd say the CD got off lightly; if it were me, it would not even been allowed in my house, let alone near my hi-fi system  - IN A NUTSHELL........... 95% OF TODAYS MAINSTREAM MUSIC IS NOTHING MORE THAN FKN SH1T............. Great album, which also shows that Sinatra was able to interact with an audience not just with his music. At 50 he was without doubt still at the very top of his game !

I find the 'natter' between the songs annoying once you have heard them. Unfortunately there is little one can do with copies on vinyl.

I've never heard a Mick Ronson album, but after seeing a brilliant documentary about him (called "Beside Bowie" or something similar) I have thought about getting one. Would this one be your recommendation?

Side A is a bit weak (imho), really like side B though. I also have 'play Don't Worry' which is pretty good. Not sure how many he's done, I haven't sought these out so much as picked them up out of interest as they were at a reasonable price when rootling through a record fair or whatever.

I used to have a copy, bought largely for the cover - a post-punk version of Manet's "Dejeuner sur L'herb ", which I found amusing. Sadly however the musical content didn't justify my keeping it.

Those two Gary Numan albums are superb!!! I recently bought them both on CD to compliment my originals (by originals, I mean my original vinyls and my original alb CD's) as a comparison to how they evolved from the out-takes to the finished tracks and I gotta say I love em !!!

They were all my favourite bands; I really did love em all and, to pick a favourite, really would be difficult. I'd have to say Duran Duran, Ultravox, The Human League, Soft Cell and Depeche Mode would be right at the top end of the list. Also, Flock Of Seaguls and Heaven 17 (Penthouse & Pavement is a great album). Oh, and not forgetting ABC (the first album is soooooo good and also Alphabet City).

The last truly great time in British pop music, apart from the techno/dance music revolution. Another classic by Prefab Sprout in my 'top five most memorable 80s records'

1 Ashes to ashes Bowie
2 Tainted love Soft cell
3 King of rock and roll Prefab
4 Prince charming Adam
5 Going underground The Jam

I notice the ones you've listed are singles from bands rather than the bands themselves; another difficult choice would be to pick my top ten singles from that era.............. REALLY DIFFICULT!!! Suffice to say Ultravox - Vienna would be in there!!!

Anita has now left the house for a bit, so I can stop watching Channel 5's 'Cop chases blurry faces' (I do admire the bravery of our boys in blue, if I'm out and about and I see someone with a blurry face I give him a wide berth, because I just know he'll be a wrong 'un), and put a record on. Decided to go with Macca's choice, though my copy's sleeve is in better shape than Mart's, which looks like it's been butchered to fit in a biscuit tin :)

Mine's the CD version, although the disc itself is designed to look like a mini vinyl record.

I just got the image off the internet. There's no good images with the UK cover I could find. I do prefer the U.S cover.

Most of my images come off the Amazon. I only do that because your laptop doesn't get my Ebay images. Because I'm thoughtful that way :) But even with Amazon I've no way of knowing how they'll turn out, until they do.

I've put the Visage albums on here quite a few times but, at the time, it didn't get much interest. I cant understand why as they are REALLY GOOD (IMHO) and are classics. I must say though, it's the first and second albums (Visage and The Anvil) that are the ones to get as the third album (Beat Boy) isn't quite up to scratch - you have to wait 30yrs before Visage returned and out of the blue did a really great album called Hearts & Knives; when I first got wind of that, I thought it would be just another attempt at a comeback for older artist/band............... BUT IT WASN'T!!! This was a REALLY GOOD album, mixing the classic sound of Visage with some newer sounds and really was beyond my expectations as I thought they couldn't recapture that original vibe...... but they did!!!

After Hearts & Knives, Steve and the band did another album called Demons to Diamonds but it wasn't as good as Hearts & Knives. Unfortunately, sometime after releasing Demons to Diamonds, Steve Strange died of a heart attack in 2015. I think there was another album released called Orchestral, a mostly live album containing twelve Visage songs remade with a symphony orchestra.

Yes I wouldn't call it a favourite, but a good 'un nonetheless. Especially "Ready Steady Go". I used to have the "Korean Edit" of this track on my iPod (that's going back a few years), which featured in the nightclub scene in the Michael Mann film "Collateral".

I have another of his ("A Lively Mind") which I don't think is as good, but it does kick off with "Faster Kill Pussycat" featuring Brittany Murphy, so there's that.

Alex_UK
27-11-2024, 23:20
Funnily enough, I thought if anyone would know this album it would be you, Steve! And yes, A Lively Mind is another good one, and agree not quite as good - the Brittany Murphy track being the standout but bitter sweet because of what ensued.

Bunkka has a particularly fond place in my heart as it was a favourite and played regularly when I was in Chamonix with a couple of mates doing my paragliding license in 2002, but that’s another story.

Now moved on to Tiesto and In Search of Sunrise. Which would be fine if we were in the summer when it wouldn’t be very long before the sun comes up but at this time of the year I’ll be still sat listening when it’s time to get up!

That it is. And I'm hoping Santa will get my Christmas list, which includes a vinyl copy of "Ensoulment". I believe reviews have been a bit lukewarm, but I heard "Where do we go when we die?" the other day, and if the rest of the album is of a similar standard it'll do for me :)

I own it Steve and while it's no Soul Mining it is still well worth owning, imo.

Thanks for the heads up Mike. As you say, it doesn't have to be as good as Soul Mining to be good enough :)

I had never heard of him before, but Jalen Ngonda was on the Graham Norton Show last night, so checking out his debut album from last year, Come Around and Love Me.

More than a hint of Curtis Mayfield in his singing, and the music reminds me of some 70’s favourites of mine - Isaac Hayes, Al Green, even a bit Stevie Wonder in places. I’m asking Santa for a vinyl copy of this…

My old copy is so worn out that I’m pretty sure I’ll think I’m listening to a different Album.

Two good 'uns there Mike. I hadn't played David Live in years, and always thought the SQ was a bit crappy, but when I put it on recently it turns out my current rig likes it - what's that all about

Might have a bit of a Bowie day tomorrow myself, I've no plans to leave the house.
