A little nostalgia... This was almost never off the turntable when it came out in 1990 (can it be so long ago?). I still love how it floats effortlessly between R&B, pop, soul and jazz with that wonderful second side crowned by "Everything Must Change" - Oleta gives Nina and Randy a run for their money, and the magisterial flugelhorn solo from Guy Barker.

This started my Kate Bush obsession when My sister gave me this for Christmas when I was 14... I was a touch young for the early stuff to have registered but remember the Hounds of Love singles from the Now compilations of the day... After this I got and loved The Sensual World (on cassette!). A couple of years later, once I had my first CD player, I worked my way through the rest of the albums.

It's a new 180g pressing that I felt obliged to buy when in Brussels a couple of months ago. Double LP, I thought it was of his famous concert at L'Olympia in Paris from 1961 which I strongly recommend...
It turns out that the second part is a studio album (Les Bourgeois) and tonight is the first time I have listened to that part of it and it is sounding amazingly good. I am rather floored by it in fact.

The best I ever heard this album was when I had a 1.5w set amp driving some Lowther Acousta speakers, somehow that set up just suited this so well..... the Oto and the Tannoy's are ok.... but the magic of the Lowther's are missed on this particular one... :(

My age seems to be dictating my musical tastes these days. that used to be one of my top albums but now it just sounds like an annoying noise. Same has happened with much of my rock stuff over ladt few years but...BRUCE? never thought it.

Some of Dean's 60s Reprise albums sound bloody awful with paper thin bands and vocals recorded down a tunnel, but as they hit the 70s they hit their stride a little. This one has a nice 'snap' to it, although nothing as lovely as the 50s Capitols.

I'm a unsure about the pressing, but it seems to be a little newer. Umfortunately the vinyl has some defect, the surface is full of small hairlines, sort of cracked!?!?
That gives the playback a background noice, very audible in the silent parts... :/

I don't know why I just don't stick with my 206 Geoff... it does a more than adequate job of spinning discs. In fact, the only player I've had which I regret selling was an original John Farlowe Exposure CDP, but nothing else I've had does it any better than me trusty old Meridian (faulty display'n'all) :)

Totally agree: neither should it sound as if the musicians are playing in your listening room, it should sound as if you are there listening to them in their venue.

Thanks for the pointer -- I'll keep an eye out. I used to have German pressings of Foxtrot and Nursery Cryme which I thought were very good. Unfortunately, I'm one of those idiots who replaced a lot of my vinyl with CD's in the 1980s. :( I wish I could retrieve some of the German and Japanese pressings I used to have.

Keeping in line with this thread: I'm listening to King Crimson Live at Dornbirn, Austria, May 1, 1995. This lineup is the "double trio", which I'm really fond of. This show is a little ragged, but it _is_ the first show, and Fripp and Bruford are their usual brilliant selves, with the rest of the band only being very, very good. :)

Anybody who has followed Neil's output over the years will tell you that there's brilliant and there's pish..

if you want to check out Electric Neil there's no better than starting with "Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere.. (IMHO)

I played this for the first and last time this morning... Total & utter pish.... thankfully it is a mates copy... and I hadn't wasted my money.....

I'm not entirely sure that I can tell too much of a difference between the standard CD issue and the SACD re-issue Loz, but it does sound very good indeed... Unlike some of the comments I've seen in the thread you mention, even though the format only has a small niche outside of the Far East, I don't think the death knell for SACD will be ringing for the foreseeable future... :)

Spotted this in Birmingham HMV (while travelling for work) the other evening, £15 or so cheaper than Amazon. Had to have it, only to find when I got it home that it's the red vinyl numbered limited edition. And it sounds bollmin' amazing.
