Been adding to the DP vinyl collection, was not sure of this one as coloured vinyl but it is actually a very good pressing, loads of low end bass and organ, and DP at one of their finest recording moments.

If I hadn't only been there for 4 hours, I could have come over and waved at you through the window, which you would then open and play your current fave tune for me really loud :) We were talking about having a week down there next year, and if so I will defo be calling on you (as long as the Covid has done one by then).

That Boiler Room record shop is worth a visit if you get in that area, a very varied selection, but not especially cheap. They're pretty on the ball with precautions, you put on surgical gloves provided by them when entering the shop.

A good example of how not to record a live event. The micropones are poorly placed and the sound is muffled, although the amplifier hum is captured well. Mind you, it probably sounds exactly like it would if you were in the bar at the back of the venue! :rolleyes:

A Joe Jackson number was on the radio earlier this morning and I thought its about time of listened to one of his albums, so on went this. He did some great songs, with great arrangements, and the band was always good, if you don't know his stuff then this is a good start. It is also particularly well recorded with great dynamics, on "Another World", the opening track, there is a lovely drum at the beginning, and the piano is great on it, if you want to test your system out and see how natural it sounds. In fact all the tracks are pretty good.

Album on CD right now is Monk the Complete Prestige recordings

....which interestingly starts off on CD1 with 4 tracks from 1944 almost a decade before he was on Prestige , but by the time of this CD collection (2000) Fantasy owned them from the original Joe Davis label as well as Prestige ...they are very welcome early Monk

....with Monk as a sideman rather than the Leader to Coleman Hawkins on tenor sax, Edward "Bass" Robinson on ....guesss ....ok well bass.... and Denzil Best on drums for Flyin Hawk, Recollections, Drifting on a Reed and On the Bean ...

Then we head off to Prestige only 25 tracks in total between 1952-54 ...and Rudy Van Gelders touch iirc ....and that period brings in Arty Blakey, Sonny Rollins and Miles Davis to name a few of the headliners ..... all in all 59.31 and AAD ...

I have been trying to find a copy of this album for over a year at a sensible price, particularly this release, and at last I found one. I was rather please yesterday when I unpackaged it to find it was in fact a sealed NOS, the only slight glitch being a faint scratch to the rear of the sleeve. I love Roger Water's studios albums, I just need to get the first one now. I already have "Amused to Death" on CD, so I am familiar with it, however on vinyl it just seems to come to life. The Qsound mixing/recording method used gives an expansive soundstage and sometimes some of the sounds and effect on the recording make you jump, very entertaining.

Sadly, I now regard this to be one of their poorest recordings, especially side 1, with side 2 not being much better. Funny how one's tastes change over the years: I used to be a big fan, as I liked the mix of rock and classical music. Now I realise it was naive and clumsy.

CD by Tony Minasian titled "Drums & Bells" (Comparing Sticks) it’s "just" a 16 bit recording, it blows away the notion that I need hi-rez in my life, red book can really sound Great ..

Listening to this for the first time as i type ....everything positive people have said is true ...WOW ..clarity ...long real decays ...placing of instruments ....its not really musical in the ordinary sense of music to listen to... whilst still being very listenable ..its all here...a realistic drum set in my living room, right now, with clashes and decays that (to borrow a phrase from John Darko) hang like Gandolph’s fireworks in the air.

I'm playing the CD on a 2005 Musical Fidelity A5 CD player (later i'm going to try it in my Marantz 6000 OSE Ki as well...both going via BenchMark DAC1 HDR as Pre amp into Cyrus Mono Xs and then Klipsch Quartets ...i can honestly say the sound has never been clearer and more impactful from any of my digital experiences previously and that this finally matches listening to some of my best vinyl recordings via TT and Tube amp into the same speakers .....next up will be Tonian Trio 'Hang Around' which is Persussion, Clarinet and Cello, which should be a much more musical listen, whilst keeping the same sense of dynamics, spacing and clarity....this is also a Tony Minasian production ...

I lent my first copy to my nan, who became a bit of a fan. Silly me. She had it for months, and when I eventually went to get it back, found it was on the turntable of her radiogram. Covered with a thick carpet of dust. "It's a bit dusty, Grandma!" "Oh it just needs a bit of a wipe", and she 'dusted' it with her cardigan sleeve. If I close my eyes I can still hear the buttons on her cuff clattering across the vinyl :doh:

So I swapped it for my mum's new copy of "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" as she preferred Captain Fantastic, then I went out and bought a new copy.

Trip to Clock Tower Records in Bridport yesterday, first time been in a shop proper for about 6 months, all had to wear supplied nitrile gloves on entry so to minimise risk of passing bugs going through records, and asked to keep to distancing as much os possible. It felt pretty safe apart from one d**k head who refused to wear gloves, and eventually left when tackled by another customer. I picked up 5 records for a reasonable bundle price, all NM and as it turns out all 1st pressings, so lucky there.

Yes took me a while to get into her as she has quite a distinctive voice, her Freedom Highway is excellent. Not quite so keen on her last album but it's worth a listen.

I picked this uo for £1 the other day as it looked interesting and the vinyl is in NM condition, it seems that it is a rather rare record.

Musically it reminds me of a similar feel/style to Nick Low/Springsteen if that makes sense, it is pretty good. I looked up Henning Kvitnes, he is quite a prolific musician, has been in several bands and is still performing, in 78 he was in The Ice Cream Band, who warmed up for Elvis Costello at Chateau Neuf in Oslo, in 2007 he won a Norwegian Grammy.

If you are not familiar with these chaps, the main guy, front man and guitarist is Bill Nelson, one of our unsung guitar greats here in the UK. He is still going strong and if you look him up you will find he must be one of the most prolific musicians of recent times, I reckon he averages 3 albums a year.

This is there second album and has some stunning material on it, not just from Bill but the whole band, any of the first three albums are worth listening to.

I have her 'Have one on me' which I do really like. As a triple disc (on CD anyway) I've never felt the need to get any more, but perhaps I should take a listen...
