A band that was underrated in my opinion and much maligned in the late 70's, and put into the New-Wave bucket which wasn't what they were about. Interestingly their albums are becoming hard to obtain, so presumably people now realise just how good they were.

So to one of possibly the best ever Southern Rock albums from the 70's, and on this special pressing it is very special, all the recordings layers are clearly apparent giving you the feeling of being in the studio with the band, well worth hunting a copy of this out, a foot tapper from start to finish.

Some 80's arena rock, think U2/Simple Minds and you have the sound of this Belfast based band, they are actually quite good. Some of the songs remind me of Midnight Oil.

Today I have been mostly...
Spinning vinyl converting to digital into the Dac.
Not really had a play with it up till now really... 24/96 is what’s recommended, but outputing it to the Dac at double rate DSD is hitting the sweet spot.
(Can see the readout on the Dacs display what signal it’s being fed.)
i2s to the Dac sounds great compared to the direct XLR analogue output to the preamp, just as good but a slightly different presentation.
Continuing the Zep-A-Thon, not listened to these all the way through in years, good fun.

Amen, awesome pressing, Audio Fidelity live up to their name. Possibly my fave movie ever but I'll admit that I haven't got a clue as to what happens in the world of Cinema.

I'm also a sucker for any of the Morricone spaghettis.
Hateful Eight is a great soundtrack, showing that Morricone still had the Magic.
Blade Runners one of my favourites too, Movie and particularly the soundtrack.
Seen the movie last year at the Albert Hall, live orchestra played the soundtrack, was an awesome experience.
Have another booked for this October (John Williams Superman), not sure how likely that’s gonna be now. :(

The Albert Hall sounds awesome but sadly it wouldn't be for me purely because I refuse full stop to go to London for anything. can't handle being blatantly ripped off just for the "pleasure"
of being there.
The other year I drove to Newcastle to See Loreena McKennitt rather than go to London. We had a great time and didn't feel like we were being mugged.

And now for something completely differen, and I mean that......................................
This came along with another record as packers withe side of 3 records I had purchased from a dealer in Holland. Presumably this and the other one were considered throw aways. It is actually in very good condition and I thought I would give it a whirl, strangely enough I actually recognise some of the track from somewhere, I think they must have been played on the radio in my youth. There is even a thigh slapping song.:eyebrows: How he did that when playing the accordion I have no idea.
It is actually quite interesting to hear how it sounds on my system.

Always one to improve the quality of my listening experience and I like a bit of cheerful pop, this came as a freebie as a packer with some other records, all original artists and it is NM, it plays remarkably well considering 10 tracks squeezed on each side. I must dig out my platforms and flared trousers, and I've still got one of those shirts with the huge round collars somewhere, those were the days. A few of the Artists and songs I cannot remember, probably bigger Euro-pop hits than in the UK.

another one of those unlikely albums that earwormed, dark baroque pysch that bears no resemblance to "Runaway". Essential I've always thought but peeps don't check it out cos its "Del Shannon.
I can't recommend this enough, its so left of centre of what's expected from an artists name.

Continuing with the Wishbone Ash experience, this is the last record before the band went through a host of line up changes over the next 20 years.
Laurie Wisefield replaced Ted Turner in 1975, for a brief 3 years 87-90 the original band got back together, and "Nouveau Calls" was released, unusual in that it is all instrumentals. "Here to Hear" that followed in 1989 was the last album released by the original members. Neither of these albums were particularly successful.

Paulo Nutini - "Caustic Love". Strange one this, double album with three sides. I don't know why they can't do this more often, most albums these days are about an hour long, so why not? Means only having to get off your arse to change sides twice instead of three times.
Or, better still - if they are going to use all four sides, why not on 45rpm?

So having recently discovered PJ Harvey with "Stories From The City, Stories From The Sea" a friend recommended " Let England Shake" album produced some 11 years later, it still has a similar feel but the songs on this one seem more heart felt, one or two are quite quirky but still very good. After and initial listen I think this could become a favourite. Strange I did not discover her sooner, I was aware of her but never really had a good listen to her. well worth making the effort IMO.

I've always loved her early stuff, never really got in to these two. I should revisit them anew perhaps.
Another interesting one is 'Dance Hall at Louse Point' a collaboration with John Parish. Got some quirky tracks on that as well, I really like it.
Oh, and not forgetting 'Desert Sessions 9 & 10' which is the best album she never made....

First time I played Amy Winehouse's "Lioness: Hidden Treasures", I mistakenly played at 33rpm. All was fine till she started singing. She sounded like Barry White.

Weren't they one of the worst culprits in the old "Loudness Wars" thing? And the whole album was a bit light on percussion - the sound of someone slapping Liam repeatedly would have been most welcome
They were indeed Steve.
Wanted to put that on to see how it sounded with the 'improved' turntable sound.
