If you like a bit of Classical and Rock or even some Prog Rock then this is probably one of the best X-over bands that successfully combined them. I saw The Enid at Reading Rock festival in 1976 and the played this album, Land of Hope and Glory, and Rule Britannia, and I think Jerusalem marvellous stuff they took the crowd by storm.

Well worth a listen, quite accessible and melodious.

This is their 6th album and was seen as a departure from the original format, all of the original band members had gone apart from Carlos Santana, this is a jazz-funk-fusion oriented albums like the 4th Caravanserai, with are great IMO.

and so back to Osibisa:-

This album has a slightly more commercial and accessible style to it, maybe a bit too much so.

Osibisa are a British Afrobeat band, founded in London in 1969 by four expatriate African and three Caribbean musicians. Their music is a fusion of African, Caribbean, jazz, funk, rock, Latin, and R&B and highlife.

The original line-up consisted of Teddy Osei (saxophone, flute, and vocals), Mac Tontoh (trumpet and background vocals), Sol Amarfio (drums and backing vocals), all three from Ghana, Loughty Lassisi Amao (congas, percussion, and horns), from Nigeria, Robert Bailey (keyboards), from Trinidad, Spartacus R (bass), from Grenada, and Wendell Richardson (lead guitar and vocals) from Antigua; together they were also known as "the beautiful seven". The first to exit officially was Spartacus R, who was replaced numerous times, once by the bassist of the group called Assagai and a few times by Jean Mandengue and others. Amao left and was replaced by Kofi Ayivor, who was replaced by Potato but returned to the group later. Richardson left in 1972 and returned in 1975 and henceforth "Welcome Home" and "Sunshine Day". Bailey was replaced by Kiki Gyan before "Sunshine Day"′s release. Richardson was replaced a few times by Kari Bannerman. Black Welsh guitarist Tony Etoria, who had a hit in 1977 with "I Can Prove It", joined on guitar in the early 1980s.

Story goes that Roger Dean was too busy to do the artwork for this album, so passed the job to his daughter, who was learning to tie her own shoelaces at the time. it earned her a merit badge at school.

I do have the perfect antidote, something cheerfully nonsensical, in the form of two Sugarcubes albums, if I can only get past Einar's irritating contribution. Trouble is, Anita is here all the time and she cannot stand Bjork's voice, it actually makes her angry :steam:

Anyway, in the morning I'll keep the ELP thing going. I fancy a bit of Take a Pebble, Lucky Man, Tank, The Three Fates, only one album gonna do all that...

Oh what fun! Playing Pink Floyd's 'Meddle'. I usually just put on Echoes, but I played t'other side for a change. Got Mrs. P's son (a diehard Everton fan) to sit through 'Fearless'. Which he quite enjoyed, until he didn't :(

Maybe a bit Marmite, but a major part of my confused teens and i got to see them live not that many years ago.
Niel Tennant is a hero to me as much as Bowie and Bon Scott.
The influence they had on that genre was insane, and if i’m honest they’d be in my top 3 all time.

One before lunch.....

Annoyingly Side 1, track 2 "Can't Run But" sounds distorted, it is primarily the African Bells, I can't tell if it is the pressing or the recording, the record looks perfect, I suspect it may be that the bells may have been recorded right at the limit, but I could be wrong. All the other tracks are great. I will have a listen to the same track on other media.

Revisiting some old favourites on vinyl, Jefferson Starship “Winds of change”
Pretty generic early 80’s American rock of that time, but ah - the memories.
Had this LP for over 30 years, cost me £3 back in the day!
Still sounding great.

I love this Hawkwind album, I need to invest in a great vinyl copy. I have a copy of Captain Lockheed and the Srafighters, which is basically Hawkwind doing Bob Calverts concept album, well worth a listen.

Wishbone Ash are one of those bands that are easily as good live, if not better, as they were on studio albums, in fact several of there studios albums include tracks recorded live.

Live Dates has their most well known songs and it is pretty well recorded, I have unfortunately had to go through 3 copies to find a good pressing that plays well, luckily the first 2 copies were only a couple of pounds each. This one cost me £6, vinyl being NM, sleeve VG, but I had a NM sleeve so swapped them.

Some slightly later ASH, something I just discovered "Formed in Torquay, Devon, in 1969, out of the ashes of trio The Empty Vessels" (wikipedia), also they are supposed to be playing the Beehive in Honiton in October. so if it happens I may go as I have never seen them.

The 2nd line up on this one, but still the same familiar sound and feel, still sounding nice a raw on most of the tracks, as only Ted Turner on bass had left and been replaced by Laurie Wisefield.
Martin Turner – lead vocals, bass
Andy Powell – guitar, vocals
Laurie Wisefield – guitar, vocals
Steve Upton – drums, percussion

Yes, you could be right - I'm always more attracted to bluesy artists, so perhaps I'm being a bit unfair the Edgar Winter. But everytime I have seen him (on TV), he's come across as being not very good, just flash.

Spinning now, and it is rather good, Herb Alpert an extremely successful musician, don't knock it if you have not tried it.

"Alpert's musical accomplishments include five No. 1 albums and 28 albums total on the Billboard Album chart, nine Grammy Awards, fourteen platinum albums, and fifteen gold albums. Alpert has sold 72 million records worldwide.[1] Alpert is the only recording artist to hit No. 1 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 pop chart as both a vocalist ("This Guy's in Love with You", 1968) and an instrumentalist ("Rise", 1979)." and "Alpert is also a recording industry executive, the "A" of A&M Records, a recording label he and business partner Jerry Moss founded and eventually sold to PolyGram" wikipedia

By the way this album (an early pressing this one) is excellently produced, with great separation and soundstage, a good test listening record IMO.

Quite a few of my older records have suffered to some degree from damp storage, due to where my ex-missus kept them boxed up before I got round to retrieving them. Most are quite easy to replace 80's albums, but I could never get rid. So one day I will get round to having them cleaned. We spoke about this a few months ago if you remember, with you kindly offering to help. But all kinds of stuff has happened since then :(

Still got plenty of tidy albums to keep me going, next on is Michelle Shocked "Short.Sharp.Shocked" :) Liking it more than I did 35 years ago

Yes the monkees got slated because of use of session musicians, especially in the beginning, what is not said was that they wanted to play and records themselves and were refused by the manager and record company. They go their own way eventually threatening to quit.

Sounds like another one for my list, duly noted :) Now playing Cohen's "Live in London", my only other album of his. I could buy a lot more for less money if I settled for CD, but this his music I'd rather have on vinyl

Well after 6 sides of Leonard (one of the few artists me and Mrs. P agree on), I'm knocking it up a notch with "Dubnobasswithmyheadman" by Underworld. That's motivated her to go in the kitchen, so maybe some food will be forthcoming, not that I'm a chauvinist or anything :)

Felt like a class crooner this morning to get started and in a rallying mood......

We saw them on their Stars tour at Wembley Arena and I am not sure why but it was quite a disappointment at the time. They came across a somewhat flat and bland, maybe the effect of the arena on their sound or poor mixing, very odd. Looking at their tour history that have only done 69 dates in 35 years so about 2 a year, not bad for a band that has masses of Platinum, Gold and Silver Albums from all across the world, obviously they made their money selling albums.

So I thought I would forward in time to 1979, and Gary Numan, I have not played this for several years and had forgotten just how good it is. Wonderful swirling synths and some thunderous low notes, driving bass lines and yes real drums, pushing it all along. Mr Numan certainly had his art down pat.

I'm pretty impressed with how the Wilson Benesch Vectors just take it in their stride, producing a clear open soundstage and lovely instrument separation.

If you like proper synth music this is one to have in your collection and it has the never to be forgotten Cars on it.

One go those bands that never quite made it but should really, even though they supported Black Sabbath, and Budgie on tours and even had a Friday night slot at Reading Festival 1976.

Having said that this Live album is a very dynamic and paunchy record well worth a listen. Nutz renamed themselves as Rage and had some success with 3 albums in the early 80's on the back of a song of theirs being included on 1980's Metal for Muthas (a compilation of emerging New Wave of British Heavy Metal talent including Iron Maiden

A band that was underrated in my opinion and much maligned in the late 70's, and put into the New-Wave bucket which wasn't what they were about. Interestingly their albums are becoming hard to obtain, so presumably people now realise just how good they were.
