Two good 'uns there Mike. I hadn't played David Live in years, and always thought the SQ was a bit crappy, but when I put it on recently it turns out my current rig likes it - what's that all about :scratch:

Might have a bit of a Bowie day tomorrow myself, I've no plans to leave the house.

Yeah, that is a bit odd. I have always thought that the SQ is decent, whatever system I have played it through :scratch:. Although it is recorded across 2 nights it is my favourite live Bowie Album. No post recording shenanigans and a stellar Bowie performance of many of his best tunes.

When I originally bought David Live, it was to play on my Fidelity HF43 mono record player. It was never going to sound great on that.

Although I liked the album, I sort of fell out with Bowie, I thought he'd abandoned us for America. The lyric change on All The Young Dudes didn't help (Wendy's stealing clothes from unlocked cars), which I assumed was due to American audiences having no clue what Marks and Sparks was.

So I didn't buy "Young Americans", and only returned with the release of "Low". Then at a later date I found the lyric change was due to advertising rules in this country... so that's alright then :)

Might start tomorrow with Young Americans, I got a shiny new copy a couple of years ago.

They had special backstage passes that their manager went through the crowd and handed out to all the fit birds. Lots of spandex and big hair.

When Deep Purple played at Preston Guild Hall in '74 my then girlfriend and her twin sister got backstage passes. Don't know what they got up to if anything. Different times back then. I suspect everyone behaved themselves though, 'me bird' was proper buzzing about meeting the band.

Yes, there is; The Police - Every Breath You Take (Greatest Hits). The Police, IMHO, were a singles band. Their album tracks were never as good as the singles they released. I have all their albums and could never really get into them because the album tracks never seemed to live up to the expectation I had after listening to the singles. Synchronicity was a little better but unfortunately, for me, they will always be a singles band. The singles were just superb!!!!

Hard to answer your point really; what is the definition of an exceptional album??? I think it's a case of what one considers to be exceptional according to his/her tastes. I think Sign O The Times was fabulous, others might think it's a crock of crap. It's exactly the same as my point about The Police........... my view of them is IMHO and isn't the same as what anyone else may think; I've said it before and I'll say it again, we're all different, we like different things and we all have differing opinions about different things and I accept that. :)

It's jazz but I don't know what type of jazz as I don't know anything about jazz. It's the usual thing where three of them just rattle away. Does sound good.

I bought this on the strength of hearing “Sitting Down Here” and wasn’t disappointed.

A firm favourite although her other albums are all very good this stands out, I have the original first pressing on vinyl bought when it was released and the millennium edition cd release they both sound great but late night listening tends to always be vinyl [emoji41]

So my morning session today starts as always with CD and this compilation album from 1986 covering their singles recorded between 1978 and 1986.

What stands out now but perhaps not at the time of their chart prominence is just how good they were as musician’s especially the technical ability of Stewart Copeland.

I came across this album from being mentioned as played as a “test” album in a hi-fi review ! I can’t remember what was being reviewed etc but it was probably around the time the album was released in 1984 / 1985.

He was considered as a virtuoso guitarist who used unorthodox playing techniques, he tragically died in a car accident at the age of 44.

A firm favourite although her other albums are all very good this stands out, I have the original first pressing on vinyl bought when it was released and the millennium edition cd release they both sound great but late night listening tends to always be vinyl [emoji41]

I love Promise, too, her second album. I used to go to school with a girl who we’ll call “Jo”, mainly because that’s her name. She was gorgeous but one of the popular girls and well out of my league and I hardly spoke to her at school. A few years after we’d left school I was working in an office and a temp turned up - yep, it was Jo.

We got talking and got on very well and after a few weeks, she invited me to her place for dinner. When I arrived, the room was dimly lit with candles and Promise was playing. I knew I was in for a good night! :eyebrows:

I think that Boris Wilsdorf’s eros stuff is every bit as good as his Einstürzende Neubauten stuff. I really like it :hairmetal::hairmetal::thumbsup:

They are a 60's band Alex, they were together '65 - '69 I think. Really appreciate you giving them a listen though (and posting); after all that is what this arcane hobby of ours is all about. Thanks ❤️

......... their finest, hmmm, that's a real tough one to give an opinion on!! :scratch: I think every album is really good; perhaps (only IMHO) it's a toss up between All Mod Cons and Sound Affects with Setting Sons a VERY close second but, as I said, I love em all.........even the live albums Dig The New Breed and Live Jam.

Steve, my original copy had seen better days but still sounded good, its not an album I have cd but really enjoying the MFSL pressing, I have been replacing some of my favourite albums with new remastered versions , but usually only the ones that are not in NM condition, plus of course I could never afford the One Step version if you could find one.

It's very good Martin. Apart from the 3 or 4 obvious hits (which are worth having anyway), there's some proper 70s funk going on there, like early Commodores before Lionel Ritchie made them soppy.

The opening track is a strange one, similar to the original "Exorcist Theme", but different. Most of the album is quite recognizable but a lot more electronic. Nice laid back sound when you're in the mood, but I'm not sure whether to recommend it. Certainly if you can pick it up for a quid, as did I.

Mike, did you get yours when it was going for a bargain price? I paid about 8 quid for it about 3 years ago, which for a double album is just mad. it costs a fair bit more now.

Edit: Amazon is selling it for less than 20 quid, which is still not bad :)

The other one I have (Affection) has an issue with the first track on each side, no idea what it is, but those two tracks are unplayable. Never seen this before on a record, it's very visible. Maybe it'll clean up.
