Starting the morning with some Sting from 1988 and the classic album The Dream of the Blue Turtles. This is the Original Master Recording pressing which is very crisp with deep rumbling bass. Featuring Branford Marsalis on Soprano and Tenor saxophone clarinet and percussion plus an appearance by Eddy Grant on congas ! Mastered by the legendary Bob Ludwig at Masterdisk NY.

Next up a great live album from the sadly missed British rocker Gary Moore, this album leaves you in no doubt about Moore's awesome ability on the guitar, Moore was heavily associated with Peter Green's famed 1959 Gibson Les Paul guitar which was sold to him by Peter Green for around £100. The guitar, nicknamed "Greeny", is known for its unusual tone, the result of a reversed neck pickup. Moore used the guitar for most of his career (most notably on "Parisienne Walkways"), until he sold it in 2006 for somewhere between $750,000 and $1.2 million !

Rockin' Every Night - Live in Japan recorded in 1983 on the Corridors of Power tour but not released in Europe until 1986. A favourite track is a great cover of Free's Wishing Well.

The venue was the Shinjuku Kousei Nenkin Hall, Tokyo and Gary is accompanied by a list of legends:

John Sloman – lead vocals on tracks 1, 3, 4 and 6, backing vocals and keyboards.

How can you forget Geordie !

The original (from February 1972) Geordie line-up included: Vic Malcolm (lead guitar), Tom Hill (bass guitar), Brian Gibson (drums) and Brian Johnson (lead vocals). Their first single, "Don't Do That" broke into the Top 40 of the UK Singles Chart in December 1972. In March 1973, Geordie released their debut album, Hope You Like It on EMI label. Trying to compete with such British glam rock outfits as Slade and Sweet (Geordie supported the former on a UK tour, as well as the latter at a concert at the Rainbow Club, London in March 1973), they achieved UK Top 10 status with "All Because of You" (April 1973) and had a UK Top 20 hit with "Can You Do It" (July 1973). They also had several appearances on BBC Television including 15 appearances on Top of the Pops, one of which was in November 1972.

Of course Brian Johnson is more well known as the front man of AC[emoji298]DC !

Neil Davidge has worked with Bowie, Massive Attack, Liz Fraser, and Primal Scream among many others. This does have a bit of a "Mezzanine" sound about it.

Bought some cracking LPs last week off ebay, mint condition. Carla Bley - social studies, which is a great LP, no one else bidded, why I don;t know. And some rather smooth jazz, in the form of Joe Sample from the 90s!! It's good though. A few more ECM LPs on the way, must be my fave label at the minute.

However I am now very wary of buying vinyl from ebay. One has to trust the seller's assessment of record wear; something which can backfire. I once bought a record that was very much the worse for wear, despite the seller's description. When I complained, the seller refunded my money and told me to keep the record. Even so, it is now a case of 'once bitten, twice shy'.

Yes I would agree with that - artists on ECM not normally donkey fodder. I'm sure you have posted similar views before Barry, re. classical LPs, where your average collector is more likely to care for his records, and play on decent kit.

I think I may be done with buying vinyl on Ebay too - the last one I bought, which was last year (a Third World album), was listed as NM, but on playing it sounded like it had been chucked in a skip, fallen out of the skip, then the skip lorry had reversed over it before the driver gave it a wipe and sold it to me :(

Got my money back, but even so it's CDs only from now on.

I have been playing only vinyl recently, due to running in a new cartridge, however, having bought a couple of cd's recently I decided to start the day with someone I have only just discovered thanks to Gary Davis playing Pasedena from William Prince's new album Stand In The Joy on Radio2's mid morning show.

Prince is a Canadian country/folk singer and has one of those voices that just gets under your skin and wow what a story teller he is too !

This is his fourth album, his first in 2016 was Earthly Days, his second in 2020 Reliever, which is highly praised and is my second choice for this morning, his third album Gospel First Nation followed in 2020 and then this, his current album, in 2023.

Last up are these German rockers who are masters of fast rock anthems and slow rock ballads. This album from 1980 is the seventh studio album with cover design by Storm Thorgerson at Hipgnosis. Two other iconic albums "Lovedrive' 1979 and "Blackout" 1982 sit either side "Animal Magnetism" this trio represents some of thier finest work. I was lucky enough to see them at thier peak on the Blackout Tour in 1982 at the Apollo Ardwick Green Manchester.

Prices being asked on Ebay are just that, being asked. God knows if they actually sell.

I buy 3-4 records a month from Discogs on average. If I can't find what I want at a reasonable price there I sometimes look on Ebay, but in the last year I've used Ebay over Discogs maybe twice.

Tsuyoshi Yamamoto Trio – Autumn In Seattle
