There's a new album coming out sometime this year, it was recorded in Canada. Supposed to have made a better fist of it this time.

It's certainly a bit of a curiosity but I do think it is worth having, mainly because it has some decent mixes of tracks but also because it is an interesting sort of audio insight into JD

I was in a military book club for a while, they had a lot of interesting titles but if you ordered them they were always out of stock and they'd send you something not interesting instead. Which you could have picked up for a lot less money at any remaindered/discount book place which were everywhere back then.

Decided it was a scam, or possibly a scamola, so I quit.

Yeah I did "buy" an RCM via that Kickstarter scheme a couple of years ago. They took my money then vanished :( I borrowed Macca's once and got to clean about 30, so only about 470 to go. Maybe he'll loan it me again if I say pretty please :)

I have a very Heath Robinson RCM which I purchased from this forum a few years back. It uses plastic plumbing pipes and connectors. I think it works very well but have never used another vacuum RCM so am only comparing with a Knosti spin clean. I believe they were made by a guy in Brazil. It's the same one as used in this video. You need to use your own vacuum cleaner which slots in.

:eek: Wood glue? My first thought was to check it's not April 1st! How do you use it? I might just try it out on a manky record (an unplayable copy of "Astral Weeks" that someone gave me should be ideal). PVA (Polyvinyl Alcohol) is widely used in the building trade (I usually have some knocking about) and is what wood glue consists of. It's about 15 quid or so for 5kg of the stuff, which would probably go a long way.

But I think I'd go down the cleaning fluid route. I used some stuff Firebottle gave me (I think it was called "The Right One"), which seemed to work well. I might start a thread elsewhere about it, unless I spot one already here, asking for recommendations.

Yes, try it out on an old record first. And secondly I would buy some new, fresh PVA, not something that has been knocking about in the back of a cupboard for years. It's not expensive.

Most of "mine", ie ones that I bought new are in good shape, it's the ones I bought used from car boots, Ebay, that are sometimes a bit manky. Generally they are free from scratches, so can look near mint, but sound anything but.

Getting them all in tip top condition isn't going to be cheap, as apart from the cost of the fluid, it's recommended that they also get new inner sleeves. I might just concentrate on the basket cases, most of my records are fine.

"Depending entirely on your point of view, Tracy Chapman is either a deeply depressing do-gooder or a courageous champion of the underdogs. Whatever your take, there's no way to deny that she has a unique voice, a curious trembling tone which suggests fragility but somehow conveys reserve of quiet strength.
Her seventh album demands to be heard in its entirety (if at all), because the same intense mood is sustained throughout, with only a couple of tracks delivered at much more than a snail's pace. For those who can take this sort of emotional turmoil, the jazzy, almost Gershwin-like 'Don't Dwell' is one of the loveliest melodies Chapman has come up with, and the closing 'Be And Be Not Afraid' offers an empowering philosophy for those who feel downtrodden.

Tbh, I never try to analyse the finer points of a performance nor where the artist's head may be at - The vocals and arrangements either 'connect' with me or they don't. And I've never been much for lyrics either.

Also, I do think it's perfectly possible to have too much music - I always considered the best work to be the stuff that doesn't immediately impress, but may need repeated listens, but with all this music around me I just don't have the time! Back in the day when I only had 50 or so albums, I knew them all back to front and inside out, and enjoyed them all.

It is one of my favourite compilations. Disc 1 is more "chill" opening with an absolutely brilliant remix of Missy Higgins "Nightminds" by Dave Higgins - I have no idea if they are related, but his remix of one of my favourite Missy tracks is epic. There are too many good tracks on this release to name check them all, but suffice to say if you are a chill/smooth house fan, I would strongly recommend picking up a copy. Surprisingly, there is one available in the UK for £13.49 delivered. (No, it's not me plugging my own sale! :lol: )

It is one of my favourite compilations. Disc 1 is more "chill" opening with an absolutely brilliant remix of Missy Higgins "Nightminds" by Dave Higgins - I have no idea if they are related, but his remix of one of my favourite Missy tracks is epic. There are too many good tracks on this release to name check them all, but suffice to say if you are a chill/smooth house fan, I would strongly recommend picking up a copy. Surprisingly, there is one available in the UK for £13.49 delivered. (No, it's not me plugging my own sale! :lol: )

I still have a few "dance" compilations, though nothing like that bad! I used to like the early "Renaissance" releases, still have a few. This one I used to play to death post-club.

I have about the first 20 on vinyl, mainly because at the time I was doing a lot of mobile DJ’ing and they were good to have with lots of hits suitable for weddings etc. I am sure I have some on CD too, probably, but they never get played on either format. The Christmas one on vinyl is probably unplayable any way, as it was used again and again at Christmas “gigs”. Those were fun times.

Morcheeba are a downtempo/"chillout" band, Barry, I would definitely recommend them, especially the early albums such as this one. Not so sure on the 70's influences other than the album cover, but I must admit it's a great image.

Possibly, but even with the arm at the rear cuing would still be difficult.

No, the photo isn't reversed, the other way round would be unplayable. The deck has been rotated clockwise by 90 degree for some reason. The album was released in 1998, a time when vinyl wasn't doing well, and the room for the photo shoot will have been laid out by a youngster who'd only ever seen a turntable being used by a DJ while off his face.

Tash Sultana is a recent new discovery for me, and very enjoyable music.

After their last tour in the US, where the screaming adulation of the audience drowned out what the Beatles were playing, they returned to England vowing never to perform live again. Thereafter they would only work in the studio which allowed them, with the help of George Martin, to manipulate sounds and acoustic effects which would not be able to be performed live. The whole album is supposed to be the result of the fictional Sgt. Pepper and his Lonely Hearts Club band.

Don't be put off by the rather 'twee cover (one of Neon Parks poorer efforts), it is IMO a rather good psychedelic rock album, largely dominated but not exclusively, by David LaFlamme's electric violin. The tracks are quite varied in their pace and style: from gentle and poetic vocal, through screeching rock, to atmospheric soundscape.

Probably best summed up by a posting on Discogs: Great dose of focused dreamy hippie vibed San Francisco quasi-psych-prog-jazz-rock with edgy male-female vocal harmonies supplemented by David Laflamme's excellent violin performances.

Pixies burned bright around the late 80s/early 90s, then just sort of went away. (Note they liked to be called Pixies, not The Pixies, I'm sure you will have known that) .I have some of their early albums up to Bossanova, and I saw them live when they were touring that album (one of the best live acts I've ever seen). All I've heard that is relatively recent is their superb and rather dark cover of "Que Sera Sera".

So what's this like, and when was it recorded?

I found a new copy from Repertoire Records on Discogs at a sensible price. Repertoire IMO do an excellent job re-releasing albums, this copy is superb and it is a classic album of raw blues/rock, sounds like they are in the room, if blues/rock is your bag then it is one I would thoroughly recommend to get.

Always loved the Steamhammers tho Mountains is perhaps my least loved and have the repertoire CD's of all of them. Just wanted to add that if you like the feel of their first 2 albums then this might be a must have:-
