Worse today Geoff,
mild flu yesterday vs. hit by a truck today.
Tesco food delivery earlier,
just taking it in and putting it away wiped me out.
Chest feels heavy, breathing a bit more laboured than normal.
Not much of an appetite (hard to keep down), so taking Vit.D and other supplements to keep me topped up.
Bottles of water always kicking around too.
Just need to ride it out I guess.
Good news is as I'm off for 10 days I can be in for postie bringing some new tweaky bits n bobs for the system. :)
as with most things, whisky :) hope you feel better soon.

Yeah, It's a crap way to feel. Took me only a week to get through the last infection fortunately, then I was OK apart from a bit of breath shortness.
I found a modest amount of Paracetamol helpful, just don't mix it with booze.

Well this just made my Sunday
Felt achey yesterday like I had a flu coming on, got worse this morning.
Throat and chest feel tight, doing a lot of coughing.
Guy in the Office sent home lunchtime Thursday there,
another 3 folks aside myself have all reported in as positive.
His 50th Birthday was the next Day,
guess he wanted to take as many down with him as he could!
Ah well,
is what it is.

Thanks Folks.
Happy to report now on Day 5 and feeling significantly better.
Taking a lat-flow test tomorrow and Saturday, if negative I can return to work Monday.

Good news. Do you actually have to go into work or can you not work from home?
Need to go into the Office unfortunately...
5 guys in same office off at same time with it (inc me).
Madness.
Maybe change of WFH policy given outbreak?
Shall see when Im back (Monday or whenever)
Would make sense to only have half of staff in at any one time. But companies rarely have sense lol
AANNNDD.....
Posting my PECR test today,
nice 'n sunny out, so decided to take the scenic route to the Postbox (20 mins or so away).
Thought it best to do a Latflow test, even though Im feeling a bit better and,
Angry red line - still have the Pox.
If I test Positive again tommorow morning I wont be going back to work.
Tomorrows Day 6 and guidance states if you test NEG on Day 6 and 7 consider yourself Covid free.
Would mean a return to work in a weeks time, rather than Monday.
Another week?
Uhm.... ok.

This may well work for some companies, but not all. For almost 2 years, some of the manufacturers' products and materials have been produced during staff shortages, and I suspect for some of the time the talent is at home while the monkeys are left to do the work.
And I also suspect that we the recipients have become their unpaid quality control. While paying more than ever for these products. Tough times, and no sign of improvement.

Scientists identify ‘trigger molecule’ for Covid-related changes to smell
https://www.theguardian.com/world/2022/may/25/scientists-identify-trigger-molecule-for-covid-related-changes-to-smell
Coronavirus infections in the UK continue to fall, with one in 60 people now affected, according to the latest estimates from the Office for National Statistics (ONS).
In the week to 21 May, infections fell in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, but changed little in Scotland.
That means around one million people have the virus, which is similar to Covid levels at the start of December.

This time last year infections were also at a comparatively low rate, then started sneaking up into July, peaking at around 275,000 daily new cases over Christmas and the new year. I expect we'll see another rise of some sort, but nothing like as extreme this time.

This time last year we were in lockdown though whereas now nothing appears to be any different to pre-covid days, except those plastic screens are still up in the shops and banks and you occasionally see someone wearing a mask (often whilst on their own and driving in a car).

it can hang in air for a while especially in car. once your on own drive for a few mins with 2 windows open and itll be clear bar surfaces they have touched. a sanitary wipe will solve that.

I see people wearing masks. They usually fall into one of two groups: the elderly, and Asians; the latter of whom are culturally used to wearing masks if they have a cold etc., out of courtesy to those around them.

Up 43% in Britain last week, which is one heck of a rise, yet I've just returned from a busy Tesco where I counted just 2 people (plus me) wearing a mask.
It's all over folks, Covid is no more, we're free.. Meantime, Polio is being recorded in London.
Covid cases up 32% as Omicron sub-variants drive infections.
Infection rates in the UK have increased from 1.7m to 2.3m in a week.
This is the highest estimate for total infections since late April. But it is still below the record high of 4.9m, reached at the end of March.
Today's announcement is significant because it is based on a random selection of tens of thousands of people, regardless of whether or not they had Covid symptoms.
Experts have said the recent rise in infections is being driven by Omicron subvariants BA.4 and BA.5.
Covid in Scotland: One in 18 people had virus last week.. way too high.

Sorry to hear about your loss Grant.
For the media and majority of 'safe' people out there, Covid is a done deal and nothing to worry about - certainly not worth bothering to protect others by wearing a mask. Thing is, for the 2 million or so who are vulnerable, it hasn't gone away and is still an ever present danger.

Update on previous - now have finally tested positive - and felt crap for a day or so. Hopefully will clear soon. You might say self inflicted as visited Istanbul, then cruised to Athens, return via Heathrow. Hardly anyone seems to care now - lip service paid to many obvious precautions. People are "desperate" to get away, so go out and mix anywhere - total chaos. Precautions and monitoring such as we had a few months ago on another trip to the Netherlands ending up in Switzerland seem now to have gone by the board.
Obviously it's more important that the MPs have their silly little selection procedure (well some of them ...) but the health problems have not gone away yet, and will return, and in the meantime the war in Ukraine will meander on in some form or other, but finding out how "bad" things are now in that area seems very hard. As far as I can see the Russians lob a few missiles over each day to kill maybe 20-25 civilans in random parts of Ukraine just to remind everyone they are still there - but whether there are really big movements and actions going on - it's hard to tell. News on that front seems hard to come by.
This very recent article contains preliminary reporting which suggests that repeat exposures to Covid are not a good thing. The notion that one might get improved immunity seems to be countered by the suggestion that it's more likely that underlying problems and risks will simply get worse.

I'm hoping it'll remain mild too, but the article does suggest I shouldn't go out of my way to catch it again. I would definitely recommend taking precautions, particularly if you have high vulnerability. A couple of months ago I reckoned it was almost inevitable that we'd get it eventually, but until a week or so back we had avoided it. Whether we got it in Scotland or abroad is difficult to say.
At least in the short term I can say I have had illnesses which felt worse.
Overall, about 3,498,700 people across the UK are thought to have had Covid in the most recent week, according to the survey estimates, up from 2,714,900 the week before – a rise of 28.9%.
The figures, published in the latest ONS Coronavirus Infection Survey, suggest about 3.8m people - one in 17 of the UK population - has the virus. 1 in 15 in scotland alas...

Saw more people with masks today than I have since early Spring.
Had my left Cataract removed on Tuesday and the Surgeon did it 3 hours early because he has been having a lot of cancellations due to Covid in patients and staff. As usual with the medical staff I have talked with this year, they are all in favour of mask wearing to help alleviate transmission.

my sister in law died from catching it a few months ago. true, it was her body rejecting her lung transplant, but that only happened as she was given meds to help with staving off covid... no covid and she would most likely be still here.
i very much doubt that covid has suddenly stopped killing folk. ok there are fewer to kill etc as its already wiped floor with most of the really old/frail and immune repressed, but...
well I can only go on the data I can find. But seems to me that since the world has been back to normal for almost a year now - as you say no masks, distancing, special precautions - if it was still a deadly virus people would be dropping like flies from it, but seems quite clear that that's not happening.
I think it was back in April or May where deaths from influenza overtook those from Covid. 'Flu has been killing 10 to 20 thousand a year in UK for generations and there's never been any song and dance about that.

a change in the way they are reporting them.. govt changes the way they count to suit their political objectives of the day...
No, I honestly don't think so, not in this case anyway. The measure is still 'Died within 28 days of a positive test' same as it always has been, which will inevitably include people who died of something else entirely.
the died within 28 days is a bit of a con tho. lots die much later, or are severely ill for a long time. the fact that the virus didnt kill them isnt as important as it kicked things off that probably wouldnt have happened for many years if at all.
they do have better meds etc but its more likely that older less well people will die or be left extremely ill due to it.

Yes, all true. My point is that all those things are true of influenza as well and nothing special was done about that in terms of precautions like masks, distancing, and so on, even though it would reduce the number of people who die from it because it's just not practical long term.
Same reason you go in a factory and they have a guard rail, warning signs and floor markings around the heavy machinery, but you can stand unprotected at the edge of a road while a juggernaut blasts past you at sixty mile an hour.

We just cannot predict how any of these vaccinations will affect us. My mate had his flu jab on Friday and felt like crap all day Saturday. Whereas I had mine on Tuesday, and felt fine. I did have an emergency dump at work on Thursday, but that might just as easily have been my bowels saying "No more takeaways please".
Covid booster tomorrow. And next month AAA screening, as I missed my appointment for this morning :( Honestly, I'm struggling to keep up with it all.

It might be something like Blepharitis, which is some sort of irritation around the eye lashes. Not sure I've spelt that properly.
Try rinsing your eyes with warm water, 2 or 3 times per day. If that fails, see a Doc or Pharmacist.

Friends of ours don't believe in vaccinations, so they haven't had top ups. Last week they had a couple visit from Cyprus for a party and now there are over 20 of them with Covid and some of these are quite unwell..

Well, I thought that this COVID malarkey was over, but apparently not.
It seems my daughter has brought it home from school, as we both tested positive yesterday morning. The wife shows no symptoms yet.
She is fine, with just a headache and a slight fever. My symptoms are pretty light, with a fever and light flu symptoms.
So, be careful....

It's all gone a bit a bit quiet with the Covid since the Putin threats started. It's like we can only handle one set of bad news at a time. I'm sure Covid will be back in the news when Vlad the Invader finally gets his come uppance.
Well there's a new variant that's twice as easy to catch so it's definitely out there. Wait a few months ;)

Me neither. But there's a first time for everything. I very rarely get ill with anything, so I know that if (or when) it happens, I'll be the world's worst patient.
Strange that Anita has managed to avoid it so far, as she has a shockingly low immune system and various health problems including fibromyalgia and lupus, and has had pneumonia.

probably work i would think. working out in all weathers etc. was physical so you sweat but its cold too and oft raining; lots of nasties being breathed in etc ...it lowers your resistance and you can inhale things on occasion too. pleurisy was most painful thing i guess; its really nasty.

Just posting this for awareness, and the health of everybody here.
Roughly 6 weeks after my COVID infection, I have been diagnosed with Diabetes. Apparently there is a link with COVID that is being investigated in the medical world, with articles already existing in the British Medical Journal.
So, please take care and get checked up if you start showing symptoms.
hope you get well kevin.. im one of the very few who still wears a mask if out
I am trying to reverse the diabetes through a strict diet, but I am not 100% I will rid myself of it, unfortunately.
On the bright side, I have lost weight. The downsides, I have medication to take twice a day, and need to auto test for my blood/sugar level.
It could be a lot worse.

I'd always assumed type 2 to be lifestyle related, and I'm surprised that you have it. Are there other factors that can bring it on? I ask because I've long thought myself to be a candidate, ie being a bit overweight, and with little thought given to my diet - are there any early signs to watch out for?
Type 2 diabetes is a common condition that causes the level of sugar (glucose) in the blood to become too high.
It can cause symptoms like excessive thirst, needing to pee a lot and tiredness. It can also increase your risk of getting serious problems with your eyes, heart and nerves.
It's a lifelong condition that can affect your everyday life. You may need to change your diet, take medicines and have regular check-ups.
It's caused by problems with a chemical in the body (hormone) called insulin. It's often linked to being overweight or inactive, or having a family history of type 2 diabetes.
Type 1 – where the pancreas doesn't produce any insulin
Type 2 – where the pancreas doesn't produce enough insulin or the body’s cells don't react to insulin

It’s affected my lifestyle slightly, but thousands/millions of people live with it, so it can’t be that bad.
The bad part is a strict no added sugar diet for the next three weeks (with no alcohol). So the Mojitos in the pool for my Birthday will have to be postponed this year. I don’t drink very often, so I can live with that.
Next steps are the regular follow ups etc. which are going to be a pain. I have hardly been sick before, so this is going to be an adventure.
The doctors don’t know if it is type 1 or 2 yet, but I am on a course of insulin injections as my blood sugar levels were quite high.
Day 2 of the treatment - yet to start the insulin as the doctor forgot to subscribe the needles - and my levels have already dropped.
It is not difficult, but my meals have become less interesting…
Eating out will become a treat, and things like eating at the work canteen will become a challenge, so I am likely to take my own food in with me.
According to the BMI calculator, I am slightly overweight (4.4Kg) but I have been overweight since I was an 18 year old rugby player.
I do have a family history of type 2, on both sides of my parents family.
This may be a coincidence, but the specialist did say the COVID can trigger it.
I'd always assumed type 2 to be lifestyle related, and I'm surprised that you have it. Are there other factors that can bring it on? I ask because I've long thought myself to be a candidate, ie being a bit overweight, and with little thought given to my diet - are there any early signs to watch out for?
To be perfectly honest, the docs don't know why. They think it might be due to my having an over-active immune system. I have an under-active thyroid because it is being attacked by my immune system, it is thought my pancreas is suffering the same. But as I said, I'm controlling it through my diet, to the satisfaction of the docs.
As for symptoms, well needing to have a pee more frequently than usual is the most obvious. Other symptoms are developing problems with sight, tiredness, and - erm, Itching in the genital area.
im massively overweight :lolsign: being a fat bassa mostly due to inability to move much... not been tested for it that i know of... no real symptoms tho. i am betting im close-ish tho
I was peeing more often during the night, and noted that if I had more sugar in a day, I would get up more often. (That is the point when the alarm bells started to ring and I made a doctors appointment).
I was also more tired, but not surprising when you don’t sleep well.
I was also drinking two to three litres a day, but that could have been down to the heat, and also probable cause for getting up more often.
I normally drink at least 1.5 litres a day. I was not thirstier at night.
im up at toilet every 2hrs max so maybe 6 to 8 times depending when i retire... i can only pee a little at time(100ml); waterworks are buggered and it seems worse when lying down. sitting up i can last longer. you get used to it tho, like most things. prostate is not good as is bladder... all part of god's gift to me

The hypothesis that there is a link between COVID and a rise in Diabetes does not rule out vaccination as a cause.
The study conducted in the USA had a small study number, mainly women and is flawed by many omissions including body mass.
It is recognised that a more detailed study is needed before any real conclusions can be met.
The BMJ, amongst others, have published unfounded “facts”, which have been retracted later.
I have sympathy for anyone who may contract any illness, but let’s not compound rumblings.
Gary
I am not compounding rumblings.
My recent blood tests (last year) show no sign of pre-diabetes, yet here I am as a diabetic, 6 to 7 weeks after a COVID infection.
Pure coincidence….
The point about my post was to make people aware that if they see any changes, go and get checked out.
I know it is too early for conclusive evidence, as these studies take time.
(By the way, I was pointed towards the paper by someone who works relatively high in the NHS).

Re the injections causing it.? I've no idea but I would have thought the studies would have spotted it
I was diagnosed with Type II diabetes in 2007, years before the pandemic.
Diabetes occurs most often in middle-aged and older adults - it did with me, yet there is no history of diabetes in the family.

Given that several billion people had multiple Covid vaccines and we're now two years on, if it caused diabetes (or anything else) then there would have been a massive increase in diagnosed cases. You wouldn't have to search to find it.

Throughout my working career I have worked with many people very high up in the NHS and indeed Health Ministers. Almost without exception they had closed minds, believing what they were taught or told to believe, without question.
How many Covid vaccinations and the time base would fit into “pure coincidence”?

Not sure what that means. If incidences of diabetes have not significantly increased then there's no reason to look for a correlation with anything else?

It might just amplify the risk of becoming diabetic, but as said before, be aware of the symptoms, and take the necessary actions.

Happy not to be one of those billion people; not one "shot", here. However, my colleague/friend who did get multiple Moderna shots was soon after diagnosed with Stage IV cancer and the subsequent chemo has now rendered him a Type II diabetic on top of that. A coworker's mother, post shot, now has tremors and has been written off by her doctors as there is nothing they can do, she's on her own. My adult son, for no apparent reason, hit the ground like a rock an hour after eating Thanksgiving dinner last year (yes, he got a shot). There is a saying that goes, "If it walks like a duck, smells like a duck and quacks like a duck... it's a duck." Something is not right and through personal experience I have zero doubt that adverse reactions (mild to serious to lethal) are real. And, if I lose my two adult children (both have had shots) and it is found out now or later that the shots were the cause... ...I am going to be pissed beyond belief.

I get that but it's not established yet and you can't rule out simple coincidence. 50% of people get some form of cancer at some point in their life this was true before covid vaccines.

It's also been established that one can be shot with a firearm and not die. That doesn't mean I'm going to load up any one of my firearms, point it at myself or anyone else and pull the trigger. Some would argue there are things worse than dying, like living with constant pain and discomfort, a compromised quality of life.
The problem I have with the shots is that no one was saying "you might become a diabetic due to..." or "you might develop cancer or tremors or this or that due to...". No. All that was repeated (often, with much fanfare, and heaping helpings of guilt and possibility of loss of income/career for not) was that it will stop the spread... which was latter retracted and proven wrong, that it will prevent you from getting it... which was later retracted and proven wrong, etc. etc. Sorry, there are too many previously healthy athletes, entertainers and normal people of all ages who have "suddenly" fallen ill or "suddenly" dropped dead to ever believe this is all just a coincidence. There is an ever growing community of people who share in the dismay and heartbreak and you don't have to look far to find them. I certainly do not.
Respectfully, that's all I'll say about that and I shall return to my hifi and music ramblings.

Cognitive dissonance is real.
It is a mistake to confuse correlation with causation.cum hoc ergo propter hoc*('with this, therefore because of this').*
Shouldn't that be post hoc, ergo proper hoc (after this, therefore because of this)?
Doesn't explain the supposed 'causation'.
"after this, therefore because of this"), in which an event following another is seen as a*necessary consequence*of the former event, and from*conflation, the errant merging of two events, ideas, databases, etc., into one.
