I think that pubs will shut in England during this week:
about 30 bottles of single malt, 10 of various gins, quite a few bottles of port in my cupboards (bought over a period of time for my retirement )
no big stock of bog roll though, but shower (and bleach) is on standby :D
Don't drink much but I might take it up again [emoji23]

We've got good stocks now of all essentials, and when necessary will top up in stores at the very quietest times. A little tip, btw, if you have any Polish (or such like) shops/mini-markets near you, then use them for buying essentials, beer/spirits and various foodstuffs, as (currently) they're fully stocked and not rammed with selfish panic-buying assholes!
I've just been to one of our local ones and bought some stuff, and it was a pleasure to shop there, without having to fight through crowds and queues, unlike it was in Asda the other day!!
Just a thought, folks:cool:
Marco.
got 39 bottles of whisky unopened;) and about 10 opened ... lets parteye
good stuff too, no shoite:ner:
Nice one, enjoy! I don't really care about pubs closing, as a) I'm off alcohol for the next 4 weeks, b) I've got plenty at home, and c) I'm not a 'boozer', or someone who goes put to drink much.
I do hope, however, that it won't result in too many going out of business or jobs being lost.

I know thats what will happen to our local !! Unless they can sell beer outside to people sat well apart , cant see them surviving (our pubs a bit like Italy financially !!)

Wear a mask and gloves.
If you need space, just cough.
Gloves not a bad idea, mask, no. An N95 mask, is good for particulates, pollen, dust etc, but not viruses. You would need a full, custom fitted mask (beards need to go), with air filtration system etc.

Yeah, I get that mentality. If you do get it, you'll almost likely only experience mild symptoms, and then become immune, so it's no biggie:)

Nothing is certain mate, in these very uncertain times, but that seems to be the case.

A five fold increase in protection with a normal face mask would seem worth it to me.

I think that info, where ever that came from is giving a false idea of protection, where none really exists.
Do the research, if it isn't tight to the face (so environmental air can't get in round the edges) and the filter in the mask will not, repeat will not stop a virus what is the point? I did a lot of research into this and what is commonly seen on tv screens is a waste of time, and money.
If you have the virus then wearing a mask, right type, will offer someone near you some short term protection, but not for long.
Most masks being worn are not even close to being N95 standard, are ill fitting, and N95 is no good for viruses.

As this virus is primarily spread via touch, gloves seem like a better idea than masks.....

Unless it’s a full face mask there is no full protection anyway, as the virus can enter through the eyes.

That is true. Essentially the only masks that will work, are those worn by those working with the virus, so full face and a respirator fitted with a filter than can deal with viruses. However, anyone with a beard would need to shave it off, as the beard will ruin the seal round the face.

Only if you don't touch your face etc with them. The use of gloves helps protect the skin against loss of essential oils as constant washing will strip the skin, and dry it out, and cracked skin not pleasant. No media have mentioned that yet.
Only if you don't touch your face etc with them.
Yes, of course. That also applies without them. What I was getting at was to save using hand gel [considering the current shortage], and just keep a pair of gloves handy for going out instead. And any CV virus on them will be dead within 24 hours, or just wash them before using again.

In theory, varying time spans being put about from minutes to hours, 2 days to 9. I don't think they fully know that yet, last time I was looking into that.
Two baggage handlers at an airport came down with it, so it seems likely that its more than minutes, more likely hours, or longer depending on conditions. Plane holds are cold, so that could explain that. There are a lot of unknowns still.
Just to lighten things for a mo and going back to panic buying, i m hearing sister Rays record shop in Soho are rapidly selling out of Lou Rawls albums !

Apparently, properly washing your hands with soap and water is better than the hand gel.
Also avoid taking Ibuprofen, and boost your vitamin C intake.
If you get a sore throat, start gargling hot salty water etc.
These are all tips on helping avoiding getting a serious infection. Time will, tell if they work....

Yup, and that's always been the case. Plus, with the whole country now slowly moving towards a complete lockdown [and yes I think that's the way things will go], using hand gel in public won't be necessary, as we'll all be at home!

It is in the post - avoid Ibuprofen or other anti-inflammatory drugs. Some top French Medical bloke.
Vitamin C - doctor from Wuhan.
Gargling - the virus spends approximately 4 days in your throat before getting into your lungs.
Drinking hot drinks is also supposed to help kill the virus.
Also, for folks like Adrian, who are effectively now housebound for 12 weeks, they should consider employing the services of their local dairy. Most areas will have one or two, many of which will not only deliver fresh dairy products, bread and eggs, but potatoes, fresh veg and fruit, and also some meats - all delivered to your door.
We currently get most of our dairy products delivered from ours, and in the current climate are considering availing of more of their services!:)
Adrian, check out here for example: http://www.medinadairy.co.uk/
Grant, you should check to see what's available in your area.

A Chorley taxi firm is offering a groceries delivery service for the additional cost of the taxi fare - may be worth checking if you have something similar where you are, if you are struggling with the supermarket's own delivery service
That is assuming there is anything left in the supermarket.
Our local supermarket shut today, as people started fighting over products, apparently.
Pretty sad state of affairs to get into.

I’m guessing our community owned pub will have to close, which will restrict social activities for many elderly people, so hopefully we can all pull together to keep everyone on an even keel.
I’ve got more food than i need right now, so any extra will be “banked” for those who aren’t able to access it.

Hey guys,
Just outside of Sacramento Ca. U.S.A.
How is everyone, Conner is home from school for 3 weeks, I have been told not to report for work till further notice.
Runs on stores, supply disruptions and Church and Baseball has been canceled so we went from running 7 days a week to NOW WHAT?
Everyone around us is fine,we are grateful for that.
Conner's Majors team is on hold till April, his 11U Travel ball team is still on and we are waiting on uniforms ,it may be canceled before our first game.
Most Americans either freaking out or annoyed and aren't taking it seriously enough.
I can't see the point of the latest restrictions until they close the schools. Even in our tiny village school you've got around 100 kids all cross-contaminating each other and 100 parents doing the same, then going off to work if they can't work from home, which many (the vast majority I suspect) can't. (Thinking of just a few examples of parents I know - builders, mechanics, nurses, police officers, farm labourers and retail (supermarket) workers.) I suspect Easter holidays will be brought forward by a week (starting next week) and extended to last four - but then extended again. The government's daily press conference is a clever tactic to ramp up the response a little at a time without causing mass panic. A bit like the old idiom of how to boil a frog.
(No frogs were harmed in the making of this post. ;) )
Schools still open in the U.K.?
Here not so much.
Don't you have any stocks of dry food and tins, Adrian? Rice, pasta. soups, etc?
Even before this whole thing started, we've always kept significant stocks of such for an emergency.
We haven't, and haven't been out panic buying either - reckon we could last a week or two from the cupboards and freezer, but would be some interesting meals! Going to try and get some stuff tomorrow from the farm shop, butchers and local co-op so we have a bit of a buffer.
No worries, Alex. Maybe try to keep some stocks in future... Anyway, more importantly, I hope you get yourself sorted and stay safe.
Marco.

The Army could be called in to patrol supermarkets and secure food convoys. But really the supermarkets themselves have to be more vigilant and simply restrict customers to only buying a limited number of loo rolls, tissues, non-prescription medicines, tinned food, pasta etc.
However it could be worse - in the US there are now queues forming outside gun shops ....!

My 2 local mini markets - the smaller Tecos and Sainsburys both sold out of toilet roll, no idea why people are stock piling this stuff, I am more concerned with food myself. They're also almost completely out of chicken. I live in Brighton where the first UK case was, and a friend just tonight told me of a few people she knows with a fever. Beach front busy for a Monday but cafes etc very quiet. See folk in America are panic buying too - guns. People are panic buying because they might have to self isolate soon, and who can really trust the government to ensure people get fed if they run out of food?
There is plenty of food available, so no-one should go hungry. What supermarkets will have to do is stop people panic buying by rationing certain items.
Managed a delivery of a few things for boy 2 weeks in advance. Meantime he starves. Very good system.
I'm supposed to keep away from folk and he has mental health and physical health issues.

You honestly think they are bothered. stocks sell clap hands. There is no shortage of stock, it will be stocked back up before you know it. Ive worked in retail. Stock item sells, the sale is logged into the system & automatically ordered for the next day delivery from main distribution.
I was quoting someone I know who works at a distribution centre.

Absolutely. The people we pay to know about these things should have seen it coming. Though who could have predicted that bog rolls would be a hot item? I just hope those greedy selfish shites are forced to stay at home with no wages, and no money because they've spent it all. Nothing to do but wipe their arses all day
Well, France is effectively shut for a minimum of two weeks following Macrons speech last night.
It could well be extended.
French President Emmanuel Macron on Monday ordered stringent restrictions on people's movement amid a rapidly worsening coronavirus outbreak, saying the army will be drafted in to help move the sick to hospitals.
Macron announced measures to "severely restrict movements for the next 15 days at least", starting at midday Tuesday, and limit social contacts as much as possible
The president ordered people to stay at home unless they need to buy groceries, travel to work, exercise or seek medical care
Interior Minister Christophe Castaner said 100,000 officers will be deployed to enforce the lockdown; anyone found outside will have to provide proof of their reasons for travelling
Macron said the second round of municipal elections will be suspended, as will his government’s controversial pension overhaul
The French president said the EU’s external borders will shut for 30 days, but French nationals will be allowed home; travel across the Schengen Area’s internal borders will be severely restricted
The French army will be deployed to help transport the sick and a field hospital is being set up in the hard-hit Alsace region in eastern France
Macron also announced a 300-billion-euro package to help prop up struggling businesses
The death toll from the coronavirus outbreak in France rose to 148 on Monday, with 6,633 confirmed cases

Just in case you wanted to try to understand the current situation re coronavirus from a maths viewpoint look at the SIR model - here - https://www.maa.org/press/periodicals/loci/joma/the-sir-model-for-spread-of-disease-the-differential-equation-model
Also look at possible solutions - more details below:
I found a couple of solvers for the equations for the SIR model mentioned above.
http://math.colgate.edu/~wweckesser/...seaseSIR.shtml
with some solutions
http://math.colgate.edu/cgi-bin/Dise...E_ADDR%22--%3E
http://math.colgate.edu/cgi-bin/Dise...E_ADDR%22--%3E
http://math.colgate.edu/cgi-bin/Dise...E_ADDR%22--%3E
Here you need to figure out what the values for r and gamma represent.
and
https://www.public.asu.edu/~hnesse/c...lR=0&iters=500
https://www.public.asu.edu/~hnesse/c...lR=0&iters=500
https://www.public.asu.edu/~hnesse/c...lR=0&iters=500
These last three are just the same model, with different parameter values - here for parameters beta and gamma. Exploring the model does find solutions in which the infections are limited, though we may now be past the point at which that is feasible. It really does look as though keeping contacts low would have mitigated against most people getting the disease. This option may no longer be available.
You can play with the values for beta and gamma in the model above, to show different curves. Features to note are:
whether the infected population rises to a high peak.
whether the proportion infected dampens down
how many days it takes for various effects to happen
Note that in these models, the term "recovered" may not mean what we all hope.
I think that government are doing fine.
I don't usually have sympathy for any politicians, but the poor buggers would open themselves up to claims of being fascists or communists (depending on your "base" viewpoint!) if the army was sent in to patrol supermarkets or if they tried to impose limits on how much people could buy.
However, many journalists seem to be doing their best to stir up panic. Piers Morgan is being particularly objectionable in my view - perhaps he should self isolate for a few months/years
Risked all and went to shop this morning 7 am when shop opened. (morrisons) Many shelves were stripped near bare. lots of busy folk trying to restock, but a shop that size, it takes time. Spoke to a couple of workers and they said that it has been embarassing watching folk behave like arseholes. These folk have no shame so complaints fell on deaf ears. I got some food for son and some for myself and left, struggling for breath, as i had to walk on sticks but at least with my dignity intact. Hopefully I havent caught anything..

There already are limits on quantities you can buy at all major supermarkets.

I know, I was responding to an earlier suggestion that rationing should have been enforced from an early stage - it may be my age/conditioning, but whenever I see a reference to rationing I think of government intervention.

It's not an army issue. It's a head office/store management matter, and so up to those in charge to impose the necessary limits on rationing, so that at till points, if any customer hasn't complied with the directions on rationing, staff are told not to scan items that fall outside of the restrictions stipulated.
*THAT* is what needs to happen, and stores need to start having the balls to implement it!!

As I said, it needs to move from 'requests' and complaints to DEMANDS. What I've outlined is exactly what I'd be doing if I was in charge of any of these stores.
I also don't buy that this is about profit, as I'd bet that the small amounts of profit stores will be making from the bulk-buying of toilet roll and pasta, is negated by the logistical nightmare, and impact on the workload of staff, created in trying to restock shelves in time for customers entering stores. That's the likelier reality.
In that respect, I wouldn't be surprised if they're holding back stocks of these items to *reduce* panic buying, and therefore accordingly, profits, in an attempt to control the situation.
Having worked in retail management for years, I can say with some certainty that the main focus will be on allowing systems and stores to operate as smoothly, and therefore as normally as possible during this pandemic, and so 'profiting' from panic buying would be completely counterproductive.

Having worked in retail management for years, I can say with some certainty that the main focus will be on allowing systems and stores to operate as smoothly, and therefore as normally as possible during this pandemic, and so 'profiting' from panic buying would be completely counterproductive.
Marco.
Their computer tracks your every buy if your a clubcard user and a delivery user.. i go into a tesco and buy something it appears in my favs or usuals pretty quickly.
Giving their usual customers at least oppertunity to have one slot a week would have been easy to do.
Supermarkets don't care, profit is king [emoji35]
no dates this month.. I have DELIVERY SAVER ACCOUNT AND GET SHOPPING EVERY 5 DAYS FOR MY SON but they havent bothered to take this into account and have just given the days to anyone.. folk that use it weekly and pay upfront should have had 1 slot a week reserved for them.. its not good enough ..tesco are just profiteering

I seriously would, mate, as the service that they offer is superb, based on what I'm used to from mine. You just need to agree a safe place for items to be left, as deliveries will generally occur in the early hours of the morning.
Best to phone them up initially, to open an account, then afterwards everything is done online:)

We went to Tesco early this morning and managed to do a top up shop and get a few extras veg tins, frozen meat, and some cleaning products. So I reckon we have enough for about 4 weeks possibly 1 more. Not worth getting more as not enough freezer space and we don't want to live of tinned stuff.
So from now on it will just be a weekly top up, if we are able to. I will try and put a Tesco home delivery order in if and when slots become available, and if successful continue with that if possible.
got my russell delivery. will leave it for a couple of hrs incase .

I wonder with some of these panic buying characters if they have a different understanding of the word essential to anyone else. For most people it would be bread, milk, etc., but to some, it seems to be umpteen bottles of Diet Pepsi,
multi pack crisps and horrible cheap wine. Not to mention toilet rolls of course for there awesome huge butties . In a time of crisis a little panic buying maybe understandable, but folks need to start behaving now for the sake of the needy.
Sorry to hear about your probs this morn Grant. Take care mate and everyone else as well. :)

Well...
that's me sent home from work today.
Felt a bit "meh" late on in the morning, then dry cough and feeling flushed, got worse as afternoon went on.
Said to my Manager, he contacted HR, and I was told to go home right away and stay put for 7 calendar days.
Don't have a works laptop, so can't work from home either, which I would.
Weirdly,
Hadn't thought about preparing for self isolation at home till late last week, where I had a couple of shopping trips getting stuff in.
Ah well,
good opportunity to catch up on Netflix n stuff, rather be at work though.

Sorry to hear that, take care. I believe the government guidance is 14 days isolation for you and those in the house with you. I presume this is because they are still not sure for how long someone remains infectious even though symptomatically they have recovered and feel better, and also it allows time for incubation for those with you in the house that may have caught it already.

Yo Gaz, soz to hear you've caught the lurgy, although without testing you won't know if its CV. Chances are you'll only experience light flu symptoms and be fine, so don't worry. Just take PLENTY of hot drinks, including hot toddies, so now's the time to break into those malts!:)
Anyway, keep us posted on how you're doing, as apart from us caring 'cos you're one of da lads, it'll act as a useful resource for information on how things develop, should you have CV. In any case mate, I wish you a full and speedy recovery!

Thanks Marco,
Of course I can update, being isolated is more of a precaution (and for other people I'd say than me) but do feel a bit like a "burst baw"...
Have plenty to do at home, Netflix, tunes and this place :)
Plenty of supplies in too for the zombie apocalypse, so I'll be ok.
Good stuff (on all counts). It's mostly about recording changes in symptoms and how you feel. Look for bloodshot eyes too [check for that daily], as that's one of the symptoms of CV not so commonly mentioned, and severe stomach cramps, like very bad indigestion.
Marco.
And stay off the anti-inflammatories.

Include self-employed in statutory sick pay during Coronavirus.

Um im not sure sick pay for self employed will happen, When you are self employed you know you cover your own sickness & Holidays etc. Why expect to have this sickness covered!
And dont argue with me, im entitled to my view.

Appoliloggies but self employed to me means you are on your own entity, Standing sickness, Holidays, Pay book keeps, Your own Tax stuff etc. & should also be making more money than most that hold down a general job working for someone.

This of course is true, and being self employed I accept that I take the rough with the smooth. But these are exceptional circumstances where people who almost certainly aren't sick are forced to leave work. If the self employed have to choose between going out to work (and risk being infected or infecting others) or staying home with absolutely no income, there are many who will risk it. (Not me mind, Mrs. P, who has an a compromised immune system and is now self-isolating would consign me to a tent in the garden) :(

Quite, if the government is asking people to self isolate for the good of all irrespective of work status, them all should be treated equally. If they do not do this then it will break down imo and then will be ineffective.

Regardless the biggest issue i see is people just cannot afford to be off work, The stat sick pay is no use nor ornament. I understand that some people have plenty money in the bank & can afford to isolate themselves. I certainly cannot afford to be off work. I naturally isolate myself from people anyway, I generally do my shopping late at night maybe an hour before they shut where as there is virtually no one in the place. There is no law laid down in this country saying you are not allowed to go out, so people are just gonna go out & go to work as normal. If the Gov offered to fully finance the people we all work for so they can pay us us full money to be off, i think a hell of a lot of people would indeed self isolate for sure, they would jump at the chance. Money is the paramount of importance which sadly take precedence over healthy, Crazy but troo. In situations like this the Gov need to realise that people of this country are just not getting paid enough to have plenty money in the bank, i think they are oblivious to how many are actually living hand to mouth. They are simple not gonna stay off work.
I dropped off some some bog rolls & bits at my mothers yesterday... Had to plonk them on the doorstep, Phone her so so could open the door & take them in being in her 70's. Be interesting to know how people will act on Mothers day. I will just do the same, Flowers & a card on the doorstep.

The Government have hinted strongly that they will introduce mandatory social distancing, if people don't follow the guidelines. Make no mistake we could end up in a martial law typed situation, as is now the case in many other countries.
The thing they are not telling us is that everyone who dies of Covid19 comes back as a flesh-eating zombie. The quick ones too, not those slow ones that are just a bit of a laugh really.
You heard it hear first.

I *totally* get where you're coming from, dude, and equally fully understand. However, in terms of the bit in bold, it really, REALLY shouldn't.... The bottom line is, what good is money if you're DEAD? Will you be caring about paying your rent or mortgage when you're six-foot under? Of course not!
No, this is the time to behave sensibly and for landlords and lenders to be sympathetic towards the situation we're currently in, and allow folks some leeway, in terms of paying their bills. In that respect, it was announced yesterday that mortgage lenders will be giving their customers a three-month payment holiday, in order to (hopefully) see them through this crisis. And I'd expect the likes of energy suppliers and phone companies, etc, to do similar, if you TALK to them. They'll be well aware of the situation and why you may be in temporary financial difficulty, and no doubt would be willing to help.
Similarly, therefore, understanding landlords (ones who realise that they won't get blood out of a stone), and particularly those you've established a good rapport with as being a good payer in the past), need to give their tenants some leeway, and allow them to pay what they can afford (even if for now it's just a statutory sick pay payment), until they're in a position to return to work and earn their usual wage.
Now of course I realise that won't be possible in every situation, for a whole host of reasons, but it's an attitude that needs to be taken and rolled out by any landlord, lender or employer who could afford to absorb a temporary loss in income, in order to allow their tenants, staff or customers to self-isolate and stay safe. As a society, right now, we need to start PULLING TOGETHER and HELPING each other, not simply seeking to look after No1, as the latter is NOT conducive to solving this crisis.
Plus, and I'm going to be blunt here, although no offence is meant, but more of us these days, where possible, need to put money aside for emergencies, exactly such as this, instead of spending every penny we earn and maxing out our credit cards! I'm always saying 'live for the moment', and that's important, but you also have to plan for the future, to *some* degree. So maybe if we hadn't spent thousands of pounds on endless amounts of hi-fi equipment, huge flatscreen TVs, CDs or LPs, etc, etc, etc, over the years, we'd have some money in the bank now to see us through this crisis?
We're all guilty of frittering our money away on 'unnecessary luxuries', when we think we're flush, and of course you've got to live life and have some fun. However, sometimes it also pays to be sensible (and a little more frugal), as life has a bad habit of kicking us in the teeth... So perhaps when this pandemic is over, it'll teach folks to save a bit more in future! Just sayin...;)

Ive had a dry sore throat for a few days now which keeps coming of going but how do i know if its just not a bit of cold or this? I don't.. Maybe its better to get it & build up an immunisation.. Sure I get that, and remember you mentioning what happened in the past. However, exposing yourself to a potentially serious health risk, simply to continue working, right now is not the answer.
The answer is to TALK to your employers and see what can be done to address the current situation, and also to those whom you pay money (landlord, bank, energy supplier, or whoever) and explain the situation and why you're experiencing temporary financial difficulties, and agree a mutually acceptable solution. They'll already be aware of the situation that exists, and so will be sympathetic and do what they can to help. Basically, try and take the pressure off yourself for a bit, not pile more on...
Quite simply, if up until now you've paid your rent or mortgage on time, your gas and leccy, phone, council tax, etc, and have a good overall payment history with the companies/organisations concerned, then if you TALK to them and sort something out, they're not all of a sudden going to cut you off or kick you out of your house!
Therefore, it makes much more sense to COMMUNICATE with those necessary, trying to address the situation as best as possible, and protect your health than otherwise. The situation we're currently facing will rectify itself in a few months, and things will slowly get back to normal (or as normal as can be), so for the time being we all have to pull together and do whatever it takes to get past that period, not potentially put our health at serious risk and do things that really could adversely affect our future existence.
Marco.

Lots bare shelves in the shops yesterday but the local butchers all have plenty of fresh stuff and will deliver free of charge as usual.

Yup, last time I was there was on Sunday, and I won't be going back until it's safe to do so, baring in mind that a key part of our celebration of mass is to sit in close proximity to each other, shake each others hands (offer peace), and crucially, receive the holy sacrament (host) by mouth, and drink wine (blood of Christ) from a communal chalice.
So that won't be happening for the foreseeable... However, in terms of giving up alcohol for Lent, I'm determined to see it through, as when I promise to do something, I do it, and in any case I've never drunk alcohol to 'cheer myself up' - always simply to compliment food, so won't be changing the habit of a lifetime.

I spent an hour or two in our local Sainsburys last night 9 oclock till ten !
The potato shelves were bare the eggs all gone cream nearly all gone , meat gone apart from a few packs of sandwich meat which was there probably because there was no bread !!:)
The household cleaning section and assosiated stuff medicines ,all gone !!
The upside was a very nice lady coming out of the back with a big trolley with yeast and bread flour , woo , and the lads were putting some frozen stuff in the freezers fro morning , so I had a bag of peas , a bag of flour and some yeast !
2 large bottle of red wine some beer and some white wine !!
I see this morning everyone is limited to 2 or 3 items of the same thing !!

The questions that beg asking then are these:
1) For those still venturing into supermarkets, *WHEN* is the best time to shop, in order to catch staff restocking shelves with essential provisions, which are still claimed to be in plentiful supply?
2) And if no matter what time you go, the shelves remain empty, then how can things still be in plentiful supply, so what's going on...?
As most supermarkets are now open 24 hours, if you went at, say, 3am, would the shelves be full, or what? And if not, *who* is clearing them all and WHEN...??
:hmm::hmm:
Marco.
sainsbury shuts at 10 here and its a huge shop. guessing itll be first thing morning. the 7/8am slot is now supposed to be reserved for the over 70's and disabled
Not been to a supermarket since this all began.
We generally keep a stock of dried goods in the house anyway, but we will need to go and get some milk etc. tomorrow for my daughter.
I have given up milk for the time being, so that she can have fresh milk for longer.
We still have meat etc. in the freezer, but are starting to run low on fresh fruit and veg. The funniest bit will be taking signed papers that authorise us to go.

Ok, but what about Asda and Tesco, which are open 24 hours? What time do you go in order to 'catch' the shelves being restocked?
And with Sainsbury's or Morrisons, Aldi, Lidl, etc, which aren't opened 24 hours, outside of the 7-8am slot for OAPs, when's the best time to shop - immediately after that, while stocks last or what?

i went into morrison around opening time. tesco here is usually open 24 but dont know if they still are
And what was the result in Morrisons - shelves full or what? The point I'm making is that it's completely pointless going along to supermarkets just now, only to be met with empty shelves!
Supermarkets need to start telling their customers (via website alerts or whatever) when there is stuff available to buy (or when to shop), otherwise folks are just running around like headless chickens, putting their health at risk by mingling in public, for no reward whatsoever...:mental:
Wasting my time like that would piss me off in a major way, so I for one will not be using them again until I *know* that my journey will be worthwhile!
Marco.

pretty empty but they were in restock mode so I got enough.. veg aisles were empty but the lad restocking dug out my request for potatos carrots and onions with a smile.. I probably wont risk it again(that was yesterday)
See edit to my last post:)
Ok, so at least you've witnessed shelves being restocked...
Marco.
At least there is some good news. The Eurovision Song Contest has been cancelled.
I am working from home, sat on the terrace, spotting red squirrels. In the background is a large number of petrol garden all,Ian ces being used.

My wife went to Tesco for her Mums shopping this morning, it is a large one and is open 24 hours normally, they were making announcements that the store would only be open 8am to 8pm and that no individual shopper would be allowed to purchased more than 2 of one item to ensure everyone was able to meet their shopping needs. I suspect the 8 to 8 is for 2 reasons, to allow their staff to restock shelves without exposure to the great unwashed, and also it means that with tills being manned they can enforce the 2 item policy.
I have noticed a lot of the local supermarkets are advertising for additional temporary staff, a lot at nights shifts and delivery drivers. In our local Tesco a lot of the staff are in their older years, so maybe they are starting to self-isolate and take the financial hit rather than risk getting the Coronavirus.

Well that's good news (on all counts), and entirely sensible, but *ONLY* if by 8am every day the shelves are full, ready for the day's trade, ditto the same the following day and so forth... We need to get to a point where people are able to buy what they need (within existing restrictions) and not be making completely wasted journeys.
And if staff, as you say, are using the times in between to restock shelves, then there's no excuse for that not to happen, *if* everything is still in plentiful supply and the goods are getting through to stores. However I'm glad to see that proper measures are at last being taken to prevent idiots from panic-buying.
I'd have no qualms whatsoever getting the police involved to taser, and then arrest, the most belligerent offenders!!!

But if people are desperate why dont they buy kitchen Roll, That never seems to run out!

Interesting, Alan. It was same last time I was out. It seems to be that Aldi and Lidl are keeping their stores stocked better than their bigger competitors... In terms of milk, eggs and bread we're now getting those delivered from our local dairy, and it'll be fruit and veg from them too, when our stocks run out.

Here you go, help from the Bank of England now for those who are struggling financially because of the effects of CV: https://news.sky.com/story/coronavirus-boe-could-take-radical-money-printing-action-11959670
Far better to get that type of help, thus be able to stay at home and self-isolate, than go to work and potentially put your health [and that of others] at serious risk...
The key now is to stay calm/rational, think logically, and be open to receiving the necessary assistance (from all quarters), not just blindly thinking: 'I have to go to work to pay my bills' unless your job is currently fundamental to helping the survival of others, as that's only exacerbating the problem.

Getting rid of crappy tenants has never been easy. I'm not a landlord but I do a lot of work for them. Many tenants really do take the piss, and have no respect for where they live. Makes me mad even though they're not my houses :(
Indeed, which is why we simply wouldn't entertain it. We rent out a couple of small properties locally, but *strictly* to friends and family. Fuck having lowlifes ruining your property, for a game of soldiers!!:nono:

My criteria for my managing agents is insanely strict as to who rents my property, i’d rather have it empty than have scum live in it.
Yes, if it’s empty it costs me in council tax etc, but its worth it for the lack of worry. I mean one only has to watch some of bailiff shows on TV to see what utter filth there is out there who want something for nothing!
That said, i really don’t want to see a decent tenant out on their arse through no fault of their own.
I just think the governments message is a green light for the less than honest to royally take the piss, which i have no doubt that they will.

When i walked in i said fuck in hell anyone think a war was on or summert. Got a few stares but dont give a crap. Its utterly Pathetic.
I completely despair at the selfishness of humanity. Absolutely vile behavior. I've been trying for over a week now to find a couple of packets of paracetamol to have in stock in case my children catch COVID-19, without success. I hope they can live with themselves wiping their arses on their copious amounts of toilet roll whilst families suffer.
On the way out of Sainsburys last night ,I spoke to the young girl arranging the baskets tidily by the sliding doors ,and told her to keep smiling and said it wasnt quite as bad as I thought it was going to be !!
She said 'They are all lined up outside at 7 am like its the sales !!
My analysis of it ,is there is an element of people eating out before but now , they all need to eat at home ,cook at home (well there are still take aways I know ,but in the main ) ,some might have only been in and bought a dozen items ,but now at home ,and seeing the risk that its not going to be there , just grab 3 times as much and things they MIGHT need ,and then some more- comfort eating too
. Fcukwits !!
What about the ones who are buying for themselves and for older folk possibly , with a bigger than normal load? Facebook has groups where they will assist older folk who cannot get what they want or need to be isolated .
Its all very difficult but once the initial panic goes off ,will we see it balance out ? There is certainly enough meat about and eggs and milk and flour -hence bread.
We been in semi lockdown for last 3 week lambing so not really been out except for stereophonics cpl of week ago. Went to pick up TT2 that i got for good price off ebay today and also pick up my sooloos which had a service. Missus took me into local asda to see what fuss was about. Sure enough empty shelves all over and no beer :(. Did find it amusing though that there was a big pile of cases of corona lager. There is gonna be some huge deals on that soon.
Also it ok limiting folk to 2 or 3 items but what if u have a cpl of kids 3 of u having pie n peas other 1 on beans on toast.
On another note roads were empty made excellent time to huddersfield through what would normally be gridloack in at least 3 places.
Living on a farm we usually do big shops as nearest town bout 20 mins away we got a big delivery due tomorrow that has been ordered 8 week ago not holding my breath for it all being there.

I went to collect my prescriptions today at Lloyds Chemist, and the lady I know there and another customer told me that there had been a serious incident at our local Tesco this morning. Apparently 2 customers were involved in a fight, one customer had a verbal go at another about taking too much and obviously stock piling and being selfish, at which point the other customer set about the other with fists. I believe the police had to be called and I think an arrest was made.
A rather sad story I am afraid.

All the local high street shops are either sold out or have huge queues.
Strangely, the tiny mini-mart/offy tucked away in a quiet corner at the top of my road always has stock and never seems to have customers. I was walking past the other day and on display outside were 72 roll packs of toilet paper for £3.99, so I grabbed one. Today there were bags of spuds at £1.20 and I had one of those. No point getting more as they go bad if I keep too many. Apart from the shopkeeper I didn't see anybody and he kept well away.

Well the delivery arrived with a distinct lack of cleaning products even though she had only ordered a couple. Apart from that rest of order was pretty much unaffected and the good news was my stock of budweiser is back. Always like to take advantage of offers and get a good stock in.
Seems home delivery is the way round shortages. We did notice that usually our order comes from Skipton but this time came from main depot in Leeds. So this might indicate that deliveries might not be getting to the stores, instead used for home deliveries.
