Tried and wanted to go home? or because they where promised a promotion if the test that caused the melt down was completed?

Why the Fucushima plant had the cooling water tanks fitted below and requiring pumps instead to be gravity fed?
Maybe it was cheaper that way?

If the virus escaped from the lab it was a mistake or poor and cheap safety measures we are humans and all make mistakes. the cover up, the poor response the choice of the lab and its founding in the first place are criminal act's The Hague is there to judge against crimes against humanity 4 million deaths amply justify it

Yes, all those things may be true but it still comes down to people being crap and not some sort of organised conspiracy against mankind.

I doubt that China would ever admit culpability and I doubt that it can ever be proven without their full cooperation, which you won't get, and even if that did happen you're not going to get anyone significant in the dock at the Hague. Some hapless lab assistant and maybe his shift supervisor. Hardly seems worth it does it?

You shouldn't be 'crap' in a job with massive responsibility. You should be extremely switched on, dedicated and efficient, proud of your job, and willing to perform it to the highest level of your ability - and if you're fundamentally 'crap', then you shouldn't have the job in the first place!

There's NO excuse for 'crap', unless you're ill or intrinsically incapable of performing the task you've been employed for, in which case as I've said, you shouldn't be there in the first place. I abhor laziness and incompetence.

WHY?? So, in that scenario *WHO* would be protected and *WHY*? I'd really like an answer to that, as for me no-one on this earth is above the law or exempt from punishment for any wrongdoing.

This notion that it's somehow 'just how it is' needs robustly challenged and steps taken to grossly alter that state of affairs!

Yes wouldda shudda cudda but that's just how things are and how they've always been, even the best people are not perfect all the time and most of us are not the best even if we might like to think we are

. If you have enough labs, with enough people, with enough viruses then probability dictates that at some point over time there will be an accident.

It' not that people are above the law, it's the difficulty of getting sufficient evidence to secure a conviction.

It's not a case of BEING the best, but DOING things to the BEST of *YOUR* ability. Not doing so is inexcusable, unless you're ill or infirm. Otherwise it's just sheer laziness or incompetence, which I have no time for!

How do you think I got to where I am now running my own successful business - by tolerating or accepting laziness or incompetence from either my staff or suppliers?

Oh poor bloke, he can't help being 'crap'... Fuck that. I'd still need to work for a living if that had been the case. You should always strive to achieve the highest standards you're capable of - in ANYTHING. Simples!

I can't be bothered with folk who muddle through life, doing the absolute minimum that they can to get by, when if they wanted, could do so much better. Those folk, along with the intrinsically idle, rip my knitting!

Making an honest mistake, is a different matter, because we're all fallible creatures, but not because of laziness, gross negligence or incompetence - at least under anything else but the most exceptional of circumstances.

I still believe that certain people today think that they're above the law, due to their power, influence and wealth, and often make scapegoats of others for their wrongdoing - and it is *those specific* people who should be EXPOSED, brought to justice and PREVENTED from having that sort of influence, wealth or power ever again, as they'll always use it for evil purposes, never good!

But this will almost certainly have been an exceptional circumstance. You're not likely to get a serial incompetent working in a high security lab, unless it's their first day, and even then it's unlikely that if they were that poor they'd get that position in the first place.

Watch some episodes of Air Crash Investigation, you see plenty of dedicated competent individuals screwing up. Only has to happen the once.

Most of us do jobs where you can screw up and no-one dies. When we do screw up - and we all do - it doesn't tend to stick in our memories since the consequences are not that serious.

Then steps (as in no stone unturned) should be taken to find out *exactly who* was responsible, and by that I really mean the country and those in charge making all the decisions. There should a MASSIVE investigation into that accordingly, and whoever was responsible made to admit it and be dealt a suitable punishment.

Also, why do we need all these (intrinsically dangerous) labs in the first fucking place? Exactly how much REAL GOOD do they do? And is it worth the risk causing something so dreadful that the world has now experienced, simply for them to fulfil their purpose (whatever that is)?

The fact is, the risk of deadly viruses escaping would be a damn sight reduced, if there were a damn sight LESS of these labs in the first place!!!

We spend OBSCENE amounts of money on stuff that isn't really of great importance (to the vast majority of people), and fucking weapons, instead of spending it curing the likes of world famine and poverty!

yes killing is wrong, war is wrong but sometimes doing the wrong thing is the only available solution. The trouble with morality is that it doesn't tend to last long in the real world.

Marco
26-07-2021, 21:25
Then the real world needs changing. The longer we all simply sit back, shrugging our shoulders doing nothing and saying, 'That's just how it is in the real world', the longer we'll never have the world that most of us really want.

exactly how I feel about them

Couple of points there...

Firstly, I'm fundamentally against (virtually) anything being made mandatory in a supposedly free country, and in turn abhor anything that creates or supports a 'nanny state'. Sandro, before making that decision, did your company check that there wasn't anyone who suffered from breathing difficulties or any other health issues that would make working with a mask on impossible?

That's the problem with creating blanket rules - they don't take into account the rights or needs of those who don't make up the majority!

Also. how long (the duration of your working day) are you expected to wear a mask for? For me, after I've worn one for about an hour (in church), I'm done with them - especially in the heat we've had recently, as I end up a panting, sweaty wreck! I simply couldn't imagine wearing them constantly for 7-8 hours every day...

And how long will it remain mandatory for employees at your company to wear masks - and who will make that decision, based on what judgement criteria?

Now secondly, and more importantly, and this is directed at both you and Guy: caring and respect for others works BOTH ways... So what about caring for and respecting the rights of others who (for whatever legitimate reason) don't want to wear a face mask?

Or are the ONLY people who matter now those who believe in the importance of masks? Respect cuts BOTH ways, and so should be MUTUAL - a two-way street, not simply a one-way. So you're only a 'caring person' if you wear a mask? That's a rather dangerous thought process and precedent to set!

As I said before, you can see now why I have concerns going forward about potentially creating discrimination and division between mask wearers and non-mask wearers, possibly also the vaccinated and non-vaccinated, and who holds the moral high ground or right to behave in a certain way?

The last thing we want to create is self-appointed mask or 'vaccine police', much like there are self-appointed traffic police: idiots who think they have the right to halt or impede the progress of others who (for whatever reason) want to go faster than them, and perhaps above the speed limit. Similarly, no civilian has the right to halt or impede someone's chosen lifestyle, by shaming or forcing them into wearing a face mask.

That wouldn't be a good thing for a free society, but perhaps exactly what the powers that be want, as a divided people are easier to rule... Just something to consider;)

I am 100 % whit you against any mandatory imposition.
I also believe that I have a duty to care for my neighbour and such
I work in a food factory personal hygiene hand washing clean and always available PPE is the norm.
The policy there since the onset of the Fauci virus has been to provide face mask and face coverings to all. For those that found the mask uncomfortable face screens are available.
The company invested heavily to comply whit distancing and hygiene, from really expensive thermal imaging cameras monitoring the entrance to screens all over the place and hand sanitising station almost every 10 yards or so and the unnecessary:D office staff working from home
It has always been company policy to pay in full any one not camming to work due to sickness.
This has been maintained during the all of the pandemic and being pinged or such meant 12 days off on full pay, the overtime rate for those covering the shift was increased to double time.
We on the engineering/maintenance department work 12 hours shifts and yes masks are a pain especially when in the Fryer room where the temperature is normally over 30 C in the winter.
We can take them off when in certain areas or while working whit peoples on our bubble to be promptly reminded to put the back on whit a simple nod and one get used to it
I am free to refuse to wear a mask if I want, I can hand in my notice and change job at any time
I consider myself lucky to be there, I was working in the plastic sector before, in an extremely profitable company, and I had a call from a friend from there telling me that due to the pandemic all but one of the maintenance staff had lost they jobs for it to be advertised on the same day at a much lower pay rate.

If you decide not to wear a mask or to go in a public square to celebrate your fruitball team winning a game it is entirely your right to do as you like, but please put you rubbish in a plastic bag and take it home
Just do not take the piss if you se me wearing one, a kick in the nuts can be very painful.
there is a further thing you can easily do if you care for your neighbour which would make the mask unnecessary get a free test kit from the NHS and do a test daily

It would be nice to know if one got the antigens or not first thing I am going to do when I finished posting this is harass my GP to get a test

I fully understand your concerns about discrimination, we live whit it every day.
As you well know I have been going on and on about vitamin D since the beginning of this and I am really pissed off whit the main stream media
The by-line during the black life maters was that Black peoples are more prone to get the Fauci plague because ... They live in deprived conditions, this is total bullshit they are a different colour than you because they came from a sunnier place. they do not naturally make enough of it. Vitamin D deficiency will cause you to be less prepared to fight off the virus.

How much discrimination was promoted saying that Black people live in deprived conditions?

You wont see me being a Mask police I promise I will try my best.
Why this has to became a politic issue and why politicos had to get involved at all baffles me it should be a mater off common sense and science

Same peoples are pretty small minded, we all are, give me any one doing 30 MPH on a 40 and if I am stuck right behind him I be screaming on his/ her rear view mirror any kind of abuse

OK I chose this post to answer as it shows that companies as well as the general public are unaware of how masks transfer anything that’s collected on them to other surfaces. Firstly though an error on bksabath’s company. Face screens are not an option alone, you have to wear a face mask with it. The reason, along with the reason for masks is simple, to stop any droplets of moisture escaping from your mouth and nose.

So as with masks for this to be effective they have to be tight fitting around the face, no openings on side that merely deflects any moisture to the person behind probably by diffusion creating a wider scattering pattern.

Let’s get onto how people really treat their masks (based on real life observations). People wear masks in ignorance of how they should be used, on off, stuffed in pockets, continuous repositioning. The processes are exacerbated by long time wearing. The only way a mask can be handled safely after use is by the straps, so if you have to take it off you need to keep it in your hand by the straps or dispose of it, if it’s put in a bag or pocket touching the surface you’ve contaminated your hands and need to sanitise, otherwise you contaminate any surface you touch.

You now need a clean mask.

While wearing a mask you can’t touch it other than, as mentioned, by straps, so no repositioning when it moves on your face or pulling forward to avoid voice muffling, If you touch the surface you need to sanitise.

In my opinion masks can help spread contaminants rather than protection.

As for it being a visual indication that you care, then touching it should indicate that wearing it is just posturing.

As you suggest Marco, Civil liberties are a "two way street", we could argue from here to kingdom come about whether wearing a mask is an infringement of your civil liberties, or your refusal to wear one is an infringement of mine ("your" used as a non specific term here).

I absolutely agree. Quite simply, there's no universally 'right' or 'wrong' answer. here.

The danger, however, is that people will try and create one regardless, based simply on what conforms to THEIR sense of correctness, and therefore going forward, an 'us and them' society, stigmatising face masks to represent the symbol of a 'caring person', and therefore an absence of one, the opposite. A rather dangerous precedent to set - and the very same applies to vaccines!

Therefore, we must guard against creating the notion of a 'persona non grata' becoming anyone who decides to make different choices from the 'accepted norm'.

I mean, regardless of what you think of smoking, as a non-smoker myself, I still think it's utterly disgraceful how smokers have been treated virtually like lepers, ostracised from society in so many ways, and we cannot allow that to happen to non-mask wearers or the unvaccinated.

In my opinion, wearing a mask in shops is a sign of a person caring about the health of others.

Yes I understand what you mean, but can you also see that simply by making that statement, by definition you're also implying that not wearing one is the sign of an uncaring one?:)

I'm afraid that's the obvious implication, and it's judgmental, discriminatory, and possibly (perhaps even highly likely) inaccurate, as the reality is you don't know that person from Adam. There could be a multitude of legitimate reasons, for example health related [perhaps they have breathing issues?] why they've chosen not to wear a mask. Therefore, it doesn't automatically make them bad.

I'm certainly a caring person, but my default position (from Aug 7th, if that's when mask-wearing restrictions are removed in Wales) will be to ditch them and start living my life normally again, and that will apply to everywhere I go *unless* I'm entering someone's home who would feel more comfortable with me wearing one, and therefore asks me politely to do so.

I may also offer to do the same when entering some small shops or other such places where space is limited, and ask the owner or staff member(s) present (perhaps other customers) if they'd rather I wore a mask, as it's simply courteous to do so, but I won't be doing it as a matter of course, as I simply won't be controlled in that way, as a result of being made to feel that I'm inconsiderate or 'wrong'.

There are too many jumped-up little Hitlers around, only too keen to use any excuse they can to exercise their fascist tendencies!!

However, I will concede that if people care enough about the health of others to wear a mask, why the fuck does it seem to have become acceptable for people to leave worn masks littering the pavement? Two left outside my daughters house when I went to visit yesterday :steam:

Filthy bastards, mate. I see them scattered around the ground all the time. There's simply no excuse for it, and if I saw someone doing it, I wouldn't hesitate to ask them to pick it up and dispose of it in the proper manner, and give them a piece of my mind if they didn't!

Great post, Gary - simply factual and true, highlighting how the vast majority are simply 'playing at it', in terms of realistically protecting anyone. This nails it on the head, though:

As for it being a visual indication that you care, then touching it should indicate that wearing it is just posturing.

Indeed. And of course the reality is that no-one gives a flying fuck whether you're using the right type of mask to achieve the desired effect or not, let alone wearing or handling it correctly, or whether it needs changing, as it's contaminated and therefore no longer effective [if indeed it ever was in the first place]!

So how much protecting of others are these so-called 'caring people' really doing? It could be argued that if they don't wear or handle masks correctly and change them regularly, they're exacerbating the problem far more than solving it!

However, as long as they can see some sort of covering strapped across your 'coupon' (Scottish slang for face. I like the alliteration), you're fine and therefore 'one of them'. Therefore it's simply about COMPLIANCE.

And I'm not interested in being in anyone's gang, simply to 'fit in', nor be 'trained' like a monkey!

That's what a lot of this stuff is too, you know, mask wearing, social distancing, continual hand-cleansing, etc. It's classic mind control, via coercive persuasion. Some would do well to study NLP [Neurological Linguistic Programming], and how very effective techniques can be used to brainwash people in the wrong way:

My earlier comment: 'New Delta-Sigma virus expected mid September +/- 3dB' was an attempt at levity and should be ignored.

BUT this interview with Dr. Mike Yeadon is a must read I strongly urge everyone to listen to it. I will listen to it again as there is a lot to take in:

https://www.bitchute.com/video/oSwtUedmK9QB/

The big points are how we have been lied to, that Hydroxychloroquine and Ivermectin are effective and that lockdown is not helping nor are masks. The big noise about variants is overblown as the body is quite capable of dealing with the small difference. He explains that when the virus replicates in the billions that sometimes it makes a mistake resulting in a slightly different virus which I think he said can vary by 0.3% and that our immune systems once they have dealt with the original strain can adapt to a change of up to 20%!!!

He states that this 'novel' virus is no more dangerous than a bad flu which if you look at statistics is true.

Be aware but do not be frightened of the virus.

Dr. Michael Yeadon was a scientific researcher and vice president at drugs giant Pfizer.

Regardless which side of the fence you're on this is educational and should be read by all.

Bigger rise in the death stats today, as you'd expect with the catch up over the weekend: https://coronavirus.data.gov.uk/

Still nothing of major concern though, with the number of positive tests still on the decline. Here's an interesting article to consider, explaining why vaccinated people dying shouldn't be a major cause for concern: https://theconversation.com/most-covid-deaths-in-england-now-are-in-the-vaccinated-heres-why-that-shouldnt-alarm-you-163671?utm_source=pocket-newtab-global-en-GB

I think it sets that out pretty clearly.

In that respect, it would be interesting to know the age demographic of the 131 recently reported deaths. Equally, it'll be interesting to see how the stats look tomorrow and towards the end of the week, and whether numbers continue to rise, or as has been happening recently, stabilise and then reduce.

I'm predicting the latter, but if it's the former, do bear in mind what's explained in the article above:)

Hi Marco, I think that some of this may be down to semantics.

I don't translate my "person caring about the health of others" in the situation of wearing a mask in a shop as meaning that that person is a "caring person".

As an example; on a recent visit to Tesco I had to ask a woman to move away from the newspaper display which she was using as a lecturn to hold a copy of the Times which she was quite engrossed in.
She was wearing a mask, so in that respect she was caring about the health of others. However, in respect of getting in the way of other shoppers/contaminating the newspaper she obviously didn't give a shit, so not a generally "caring person".

I couldn't ever set myself up as judge and executioner (done too many dodgy things in the past :)), but I do try to act in a way that doesn't place others at risk.
With that in mind, I have very ambivalent views on a number of topics.

For instance, I was a smoker for many years, but gave up about twenty years ago (still on the gum though ).
I still find it annoying when people suggest that smokers should be denied health treatment as they have "bought it on themselves" despite their taxes paid on cigarettes could quite easily pay for any health care they need in later life. Though there don't seem to be many advocating to withhold medical care for sporting injuries/obesity/rectifying silicone implant leaks/dental care for boiled sweet eaters - the list goes on.
However, I prefer being able to go in a pub without having my clothes stinking of cigarette smoke. I also feel guilty now about subjecting others to the potentially lethal effects of passive smoking.

We live in a "democracy" (separate thread needed for that one ). The majority of the population have now agreed that having a vaccination is the right thing to do - one has to assume that was their free choice.
If it then becomes a requirement to be vaccinated in order to take a flight, go to a concert or whatever then that is part and parcel of living in a "democracy".

last para' is taking things to extreme, but interested in what the responses will be :)

I got one for post 8535 It all ties up whit the discussion about label
The fascio represent the strength of may straws tied together small helpless people united to overturn adversity and Mussolini did same good things

Minimum working age and mandatory school for children’s, maternity live for women working unions and almost kept his electoral promises for a job to everyone, way before any one else i believe
He also did same bad things and make same serious mistakes one of those the Alliance whit Hitlers.
Old water sports promise was a car for every one the wolks vagen I can not really say nor care to know how the Swastika came out I know that it is one of the symbols on one of the Pope formal robes so they must have robbed that from same place
I also don’t know of any good thing done by old water sport.
The Italian war effort was a joke and rightly we celebrate liberation day If you have not seen it watch the movie Capitan Corelli Mandolin
So, there you go Fascist used as label to characterize the Little Hitler label
Yes, they make much sense and aptly convey what you are saying can’t stand the Little Hitler's at all and can spot them a mile away
Maybe they should not so liberally placed together?
Off topic ...maybe
Hey how many ever thought that Cassiopeia is a nice name for a daughter
A beautiful star on the belt of Orion they told you at school well actually it is the Foreskin of Orion romans being Romans thought that Orion had a big willy and so the Skin, = Pelle of his willy =Cassio was so far up
Or ever heard the Carmina Burana played in a church organ you know the bit that goes

Ok, what I was mainly referring to was this:

My response:

Yes I understand what you mean, but can you also see that simply by making that statement, you're also implying that not wearing one is the sign of an uncaring one?

So may I ask what your overriding opinion is of someone not wearing a mask in a shop? Be honest, and if it's not caring, then you will understand the point I've made above:)

Also consider what I said earlier about NLP techniques and brainwashing, as for me it's relevant to much of the diktat that's come from the government throughout this pandemic. Scroll back if you need to (post 8536 contains the necessary info). I'd also be interested in your views on that.

Marco.

My opinion, when it was an expectation to wear one, was "arseholes" and quite naturally I kept my distance - bearing in mind that I am well aware of exemptions to people wearing a mask, my future son in law has an exemption so I understand that there are people who just can't comply as opposed to those who won't

To put this in context, those who were not wearing masks were most likely (about 90% of the time in my experience) to be shopping as a family group (kids running up and down the aisles) and ignoring any idea of social distancing - even to the extent of pushing in to me while I was waiting in the checkout queue, so that they could reach the 2 litre bottles of fizzy drink about a minute quicker

Some people just don't give a shit.

That's cool (hope your future son-in-law is ok, btw). When it's mandatory (still is here) to wear a mask in shops, I will wear one, although I don't think the basic ones are particularly effective. However, on balance it's the right thing to do, as aside from anything else, not doing so would simply attract a whole load of grief!

However, I struggle with the word 'comply', as it's authoritarian connotations clash badly with my strong sense of civil liberty, so I try to 'comply' with as little as possible, unless *I* consider it's the right thing to do, someone asks me nicely, or I'm forced to by law.

I'm simply not someone who's naturally predisposed to bowing to authority. If it's necessary, I'll always challenge or question rules, rather than simply obeying them. That for me is the sign of a free thinker and someone with their own mind, as opposed to a subservient sheep. In my view, there are too many sheep [folk who too readily acquiesce to authority] in today's world, and it acts as a threat to our freedoms.

So, returning to the matter in hand....If you appreciate your son-in-law as having a legitimate exemption from wearing a mask in shops, then when you see others there not wearing masks, how are you able to separate the "arseholes" from people like your future son-in-law?

Moreover, and which was really the question I asked you in the first place, when it's no longer the requirement to wear masks in shops, as it is now where you live, what is your opinion of non-mask wearers, in terms of your perceived status of them as 'caring people'?

However, before answering that, allow me briefly to return to my previous question above, in reference to the definition of 'caring people'... How can you differentiate between non-mask wearers, such as your future son-in-law, and thousands of others like him who equally have the right not to wear one, in terms of them being a 'caring person' or not?

Do you see my point? You simply can't form that opinion, as unlike your future son-in-law, you don't know them or their reasons for not wearing a mask, and therefore to automatically label them as 'uncaring', or wrong, would be discriminatory.

We need to rid ourselves of the bad habit of unfairly judging others, simply because what they're doing is not what we consider is 'correct', and learn to RESPECT their alternative choice (if it's legal), even if we disagree with it.

That's just sheer ignorance and bad manners, but those types of people existed long before this pandemic and the requirement for wearing face masks in shops, and they'll also continue to exist long after it.

Any thoughts on this?:

We live in a "democracy" (separate thread needed for that one ). The majority of the population have now agreed that having a vaccination is the right thing to do - one has to assume that was their free choice.
If it then becomes a requirement to be vaccinated in order to take a flight, go to a concert or whatever then that is part and parcel of living in a "democracy".

Well, it's an entirely different thing for the majority of the population to exercise their free choice to be vaccinated, and the authorities in question then taking a decision to ban others from engaging in some of the activities you mention, and subsequently penalising them for their free choice.

Just because the majority of the population wanted to be vaccinated, doesn't mean that it's right for authorities to subsequently create rules that discriminate against the rest. Otherwise, what was the point in making the vaccine non-mandatory, if choosing not to be vaccinated only results in being penalised later for exercising that free choice?

That's hardly fair, is it? When vaccines became available, I don't remember the government saying: 'Oh and by the way, if you refuse to be vaccinated, we'll make your life as difficult as possible later, by exempting you from doing things others can, in order to force you to change your mind'... I'm referring to the introduction of 'Covid ID passes', which I believe will now be required to gain entry to large public events and nightclubs.

That's purely and simply coercion, and therefore incompatible with a democracy, supposedly promoting free choice. END OF!:)

However, international travel is a different matter, and there are valid reasons for controlling people's movements and imposing restrictions in that area, but not outside of that.

Marco.

I may even be sympathetic to "gain of function research" being carried out in order to advance understanding
Why this understanding was not used from the 19th of November when 3 Wuhan lab researcers ended up in hospital whit a mysterious virus?
Why the secret services did not report the communication black out around the Lab?
Why such research is illegal in other countries?
Why known concerns about the sloppy safety protocols of the Wuhan lab did not preclude any further founding or where ignored and kept on going?

I would appreciate a citation on that claim, Sandro, to investigate further.

Doctor Fauci is clearly fire-fighting here, but it may not imply a lab leak, as likely that he off-shored "Gain of Function" research that may be illegal in the US.

Doctor Mike Yeadon and Del Bigtree:

A long watch. Both fit the classic category of Conspiracy Theorists. Narcissists with too much time on their hands. A red flag. Another red flag was both of them endlessly touching their face.

Some points well made.

Vaccines are largely untested in long term.
Potentially dangerous to pregnant women particularly.
Vaccines and prior exposure will give some immunity to variants.
Risk of blood clots from vaccines.
Asymptomatic people are less infectious than symptomatic. He quoted 1% versus 18% to a single householder. I make that a group above 6 will have a serious outbreak.
We have a natural alertness to illness and avoid it. An interesting point, you can always spot someone with a cold.
Covid is a disease of institutions like schools, hospitals.
Polyethylene Glycol in mRNA vaccines can produce allergic reaction.
Covid Passports are open to abuse as Identity cards by an unscrupulous Government.

Points I found dubious.

Covid is no more dangerous than 'Flu.
Facemasks and hand-washing are ineffective.
We have good treatments for Covid like Chloroquine and Ivormectin.
We have evolved to be highly resistant to all germs, or we would starve to death if ill.
Lockdowns are ineffective.

There's a wise saying: "Never ascribe to malice that which is more easily explained by incompetence."
This whole thing is a trip into the unknown for most everybody.

Any queries about the points I found dubious, I will elaborate my misgivings.

As I said I don't think of the phrase "caring people" as meaning the same as someone who "cares about my health"

Adolf Hitler was a "caring person" in his relationship with "Blondi" and in his vegetarianism, but just look at the rest of his character.

I would not judge a person based on just whether or not they wore a mask, BUT in the cases where I have thought "arsehole" and tried to keep my distance, my judgement has been based on several aspects of their presentation on that occasion - no mask/ entering supermarket separately when signs indicated no family groups, only to join together once in the shop, then having no inclination to control their children/combined with a complete lack of regard for social distancing etc.

I admit that it is wrong of me to judge by demeanour and dress, but that also plays a part in my assessment - everyone does this, it is part of human survival mechanism relying on making threat assessment all the way through to judging suitability of a mate

"That's hardly fair, is it? When vaccines became available, I don't remember the government saying: 'Oh and by the way, if you refuse to be vaccinated, we'll make your life as difficult as possible later, by exempting you from doing things others can, in order to force you to change your mind'..."

You are absolutely right about the above.
However, given what you have said about Boris and co previously, do you really expect them to have come up with a coherent, consistent and sustained "game plan" from the start
Although, to be fair, I don't think that any government (bar North Korea perhaps? :)) have kept to one stance on this pandemic.

"However, international travel is a different matter, and there are valid reasons for controlling people's movements and imposing restrictions in that area, but not outside of that."

This one I struggle with. I desperately want a week away with Fliss, I have not had a swim in a warm clean sea for over two years now, or walked around somewhere different with her. But I am really not keen on the idea of sitting in a plane for several hours breathing recirculated air doesn't appeal.
To then hear about "celebrities" :steam: avoiding essential travel rules, or people traveling to Pakistan to attend family funerals and then whining about having to isolate on their return really winds me up.

lots of other things that are on my mind/pissing me off - but Fliss wants me to clear a room so that she can convert it to a sewing/craft room, so duty calls :)

An irritating conspiracy theorist on air at 2m20, ****rattling on about freedom and liberty****, if you want to raise your blood pressure.

The only thing raising my blood pressure is you glibly dismissing the importance of freedom and liberty!!

So that's not important at all to you? And I *want* an answer to that, so you'll be repeatedly asked until I get one...

:popcorn::popcorn:

Well, I'm waiting... Ignoring me, Steve, is NOT an opinion. When I say something, I mean it!

The reason I'm pressing you on this matter is because, as I feel VERY strongly indeed about the importance of freedom and liberty, I'm not sure that I'm comfortable sharing the company of someone here who *seemingly* has little regard for the two things (along with good health) that matter more than anything else in life, and are the cornerstone of a democracy, and therefore is *seemingly* only too happy to trivialise or dismiss them.

What would you rather instead, a dictatorship??

Therefore, I await your clarification of the above at your earliest convenience. Please do not post further on this thread until you have responded to this.

Hi Marco,

Sorry to be THAT Guy here but,
https://theartofsound.net/images/smilies/17428.gif

Is it possible your own (obviously strong) thoughts on "personal liberty" are clouding your judgement in the discussion on other related matters here?

A "Free Society" also means that people are entitled to disagree with others, and are entitled to their own opinion and views.
Outside of concrete facts (With all things Covid, lots of opposing opinions, ignored science and in there somewhere actual Data)

Two things:
1: You've told a Forum member that unless they answer your questions they will not be allowed to post again on this thread and that:

2: "I'm not sure that I'm comfortable sharing the company of someone here who *seemingly* has little regard for the two things, along with good health, which matter more than anything else in life and are the cornerstone of a free society, and therefore is *seemingly* only too happy to trivialise or dismiss them."

Just to hold up a mirror, your (or anyone else's) values might not be HIS values, He might have a different view or yardstick as to what a cornerstone of a Free Society is?

Sure these folks can speak up for themselves, but I've always found AOS to be a "broad church" as to views and opinions, and that's a good thing.
Subtle "flexing" or loaded language from anyone (Moderator/Owner or not ) doesn't always make for a pleasant read.

Of course you could just be being Trolled,
it can be too easy to take the bait with some folk.

Just one Mans opinion Gaffer.
No feelings were hurt during the making of this post. :)

I would appreciate a citation on that claim, Sandro, to investigate further.

Doctor Fauci is clearly fire-fighting here, but it may not imply a lab leak, as likely that he off-shored "Gain of Function" research that may be illegal in the US.

Doctor Mike Yeadon and Del Bigtree:

https://www.bitchute.com/video/oSwtUedmK9QB/

U.S. intel report identified 3 Wuhan lab researchers who fell ill in November 2019 (nbcnews.com) (https://www.nbcnews.com/health/health-news/u-s-intel-report-identified-3-wuhan-lab-researchers-who-n1268327)

There are many sources camming up just by typing lab researchers falling sick near wuhan in november 2019 this one is the first that came up
I would agree that the sources may be questionable
It should have been the main venue for the WHO to investigate this at the very start, remember that they appointed Daszak to carry out the research then most probably by now they are either tarmac bicycles parking stand's or chicken feed

Also

Report says cellphone data suggests October shutdown at Wuhan lab, but experts are skeptical (nbcnews.com) (https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/national-security/report-says-cellphone-data-suggests-october-shutdown-wuhan-lab-experts-n1202716)
again first result just by typing a search

How much money is wasted by the secret services world wide? I posted this way back and remember remarking how quick Israel was on taking up a prompt response...

But hey plausible deniability may have also same to do whit it (Secret services not telling PM or president about stuff going on so that he is not responsible for it)

Ok OK tin hat and such bla bla bla

Please show me how a virus from a bat ended up infecting a human been , on all other viruses an intermediate animal or such has normally been found in a few months

Do your 1+1 on how many factors would contribute to a Lab Leak crack pot theory and you end up whit a pretty huge stinking pot IMO
Also take in to account how nice and honest the Chines are, jut have a look at how many death they have just reported following the recent floods and what they are doing to the ones trying to report about it, and this one is a totally natural thing that they would not be able to control.

Just to be clear once again IMO if it was a lab leak it was a mistake the ones to blame are Daszak and Fauci

The bat theory has additional credibility as there was an article in a 2008 edition of 'Nature' which predicted that this exact thing would happen if something was not done about the bats and/or the wet markets.

Lab leak is perfectly possible although I would blame the people responsible for the lab rather than some doctor in the U.S.

pangolin was felt most likely but was not the only possible crossover point. The trouble with bats is they are riddled with different coronaviruses. Wet markets have been known to be of huge risk for many years. Stopping them is another issue.
Its not impossible for it to have come from a lab of course, but there is no proof, and the wet market is still highly likely, as much as many would like it to be otherwise i guess. Its always nice to have a direct target for your anger. A lot of people like to have a person to blame; always has been that way

Main thing from it would be IMO you train them and give them capabilities you interact whit them every day and the smoking gun Inset it in the back bone of another virus
So same doctor that trained them told them what to do and payed for it as in its own country the research is banned. then not only gave questionable advice (Fauci) and tried to bury the evidence Daszak
Why as he obviously knows so much about Sars Corona viruses and such should it no be Daszak on the telly telling us what to do instead of that ostrich Chris Whitty?

There are many paid Trolls whose sources of contention come from what is known as a Troll Farm (like a call centre) ie a collection of people with instant access to a database of information and arguments most recently on the subject of Covid.

Their purpose is to belittle and/or bully (cyber bullying and disinformation) people about posts that do not agree with MSM or Governments.

It’s interesting that China has alleged 2 million paid trolls that not only use the internet this way, but report any dissenters for appropriate sanctions or more sinister actions!

OK, here goes. As someone who has hung round the Fora for years, even been a moderator, I admit I mostly plain enjoy the forums. My alarming tendency is to mix gentle humour with serious on-topicness.

Some people don't get my gentle nudgings. But I never bully people.

Now Marco, admit that you as site owner, have a sig that would never pass muster on other forums. "Refuse the Vaccination. Preserve Freedom!"

This poor chap was certainly on the same page as you: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-leeds-57984561

Unfortunately ended up "Brown Bread" if you know the London expression. Dead. No vaccines.

I am almost overwhelmed with SARS Covid-19 disinformation. I decided a couple of Pfizer Jabs significantly improved my chances of getting out of this Nightmare alive.

That and avoiding the worst infection hotspots. Facemasks, hand-washing an' all that.

Anyway, one can only deal with the worst nonsense one bit at a time.

Onto more interesting stuff. My brother was a journalist. He told me all the tricks of bad journalism. THIS my friends is ROTTEN journalism.

https://www.bitchute.com/video/oSwtUedmK9QB/

Aside previous concerns about inaccuracies. here's two blatent ones. Slightly blurry Images below.

Right from the start Del Bigtree poo-poos Pfizer's claims of 100% success with 12-15 inoculations. With "A GRAVE warning". Says since kids are 100% immune to Covid of course they are 100% immune afterwards. NOT SO. You can read the Pfizer report here:

https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20210331005503/en/

Bottom line is out of approx. 1300 kids in vaccinated group NO cases of Covid were detected. In the Placebo group 18 cases were detected.

Second gratuitious and misleading image is at 1:15:41. 5,165 deaths from the vaccine out of 294,801 reports, 17,619 hospitalizations? A thousand Blood Clots and Bell's Palsy.

No it's rubbish. This has little to do with the vaccines causing deaths. It's the Covid that kills people.

https://vaers.hhs.gov/data/dataguide.html

A report to VAERS generally does not prove that the identified vaccine(s) caused the adverse event described. It only confirms that the reported event occurred sometime after vaccine was given. No proof that the event was caused by the vaccine is required in order for VAERS to accept the report. VAERS accepts all reports without judging whether the event was caused by the vaccine.

Sorry long post. I didn't start it. :)

Firstly, that's NOT what my signature says, so kindly read it properly. It says refuse any MANDATORY vaccines for Covid. That's quite a difference - and the word 'freedom' isn't even mentioned!

And whether my signature would "pass muster" on other forums is irrelevant. It's on here, not there!

Your idea of "nonsense" is simply your opinion, nothing else. I fundamentally disagree.

So now you're denigrating my way of thinking, what next? My life has got nothing to do with your life. I'm incapable of endangering yours, as we live poles apart - thank goodness!

Hope that clears it up.

Nope, it clears up fuck all. Indeed, your above jibes and personal remarks have only made things worse, and you still haven't answered my question about what your views are on freedom and liberty.

All you've done is convince me now that you're a troll, probably from another forum, who decided to join here to wind me up because you don't like the contents of my signature. So it ends now. Take your "gentle nudgings" elsewhere where they're more welcome. I am not your or anyone else's plaything.

Seems to be updated daily and the last 2 days show a rise, the next few days are crucial as there is a delay between Govt going on holiday and further one for sick peoples to became un-sick one way or another
85 deaths to many today and a rise in new case about 30000 or so
How many new cases are not reported? how many have deleted the app or are not bothered anymore?

Yes agree the trend is good and yes I do only look at the worldometer UK data compared to the gov chart which is late. data reported is 27th = 131 29th =85 30th =68 compared to 59 incomplete 13 for the 29th and no data for the 30th

I do not understand why there is a difference as the worldometer use the gov chart as source any way trend is down which is the main thing

“You can run some very simple models to see if the case numbers that we saw earlier this month are consistent with effective herd immunity,” said Prof Mark Woolhouse of Edinburgh University. “And in my view the answer is, yes, it is. There are some big caveats but the bottom line is that those figures are consistent with the impact of herd immunity.”

Woolhouse pointed to a recent Office of National Statistics survey which showed that around 90% of adults in the UK now possessed Covid antibodies, which indicates that they could be capable of some kind of immune response to infection. “That is a very large fraction and it may well be having an impact,” he said.

yes Marco and Martin
Herd Immunity is exactly what Fauci prescribed on the 26 of January 2020 when he told that he decided to go for a mitigation strategy

An antibody test would be the way to have same peace of mind as it will tell you if you had the Fauci virus or if negative maybe one can be a bit careful and take a bare dally stroll in the sunshine.
The NHS prefer to waste money by not making this widely available, IMO this is a political decision, the clear results of it is that the Populace is in a state of fear, divided, easy to be manipulated and open to civil liberties limitation.
I am calling this a waste of money as the alternative to knowing or not are:
The free of charge NHS "rapid Covid 19 Antigen self test supplied by NHS test and Trace
Test to be taken when flaying in or out at over £60
Mask and such at inflated prices, this is also the first example of creating division, as U may recall the discussion that we had here on this forum on this regard
All those flawed, again as discussed here, measures

To quote from Martin post WTF does it mean "it may well be" ?
does it or not? another cunt jumping on the band wagon that cant resist the opportunity to write same non facts? another double cunt news-caster making beer money by presenting another non entity?
“That is a very large fraction and it may well be having an impact,” he said.

I have just ordered mine from a private source for £50 .
Depending on results I may stop wearing a mask in a couple of days and carry on living as before this "current situation"
( I am sick of earing due to the "current situation" it is an excuse for shoddy services please ad to the above)

Still if the mitigating measures , flawed as they are, where in place those 71 or whatever may have had one or two days extra to write at home.

I am sure your tone would be much different if you did indeed know any one of the 71 or whatever.
Thing is you do know them! they are same one mothers and fathers and cunts and somebody uncle and clever and lazy and loved same what just like you and me.

Herd immunity is the only solution whether by vaccine or a high percentage of people contracting the virus, there is no other way, I was saying this back in April 2020.

'Civil Liberties limitations' - that would be why almost all restrictions have now been dropped in England then? Surely they should be increasing the restrictions if there was some hidden agenda? Conspiracy theory/fantasy. Government control is an illusion, they can't even stop millions of people taking illegal drugs every day.

Society relies on voluntary compliance to work effectively, it doesn't require everyone to be 100% compliant all the time. That doesn't happen under any regime, not even the cruellest. You think they don't know that?

'It may well be' - because you can't make absolute predictions about things like this, data not necessarily 100 percent reliable, and there are potentially unknown unknowns. No real expert will commit themselves 100 percent in such circumstances.

'Masks at inflated prices' - don't know where you buy yours but mine cost a quid. Okay probably 50 times what it cost to make and ship but for a quid it's hardly a major issue is it?

Upset peoples lash out at all indiscriminately if you find my post offensive bear this in mind
How do you prove herd immunity if you don't carry out the test?
There are still talks of vaccine Passports
Nothing wrong whit certain drugs and they could alleviate the fall back by legalising especially in regard to opiates. I few will suffer as a result but no more petty crime and criminals making money out of it

Interesting article here: https://theconversation.com/covid-the-reason-cases-are-rising-among-the-double-vaccinated-its-not-because-vaccines-arent-working-164797?utm_source=pocket-newtab-global-en-GB

...noting:

"There are several factors at play that explain why such a high proportion of cases are in the fully vaccinated. COVID vaccines are extremely effective, but none 100% so. This itself isn’t surprising – flu vaccines aren’t 100% effective either. Yet in the US alone flu vaccines are estimated to prevent millions of cases of illness, tens of thousands of hospitalisations and thousands of deaths every year. The COVID vaccines are doing the same in the UK right now – all one has to do is compare the curves from the winter wave with those from this summer.

As cases are rising, hospitalisations and deaths are rising too, but not at anywhere near the same level as they were in the winter. In the second half of December 2020 – a time when UK case rates were similar to what they are now – about 3,800 people were being admitted to hospital with COVID each day. The average now is around 700. So though that’s still higher than we wish it was, it’s a lot lower than it was the last time we had this many infections.".

I would also add that death rates are also incomparable, as during the time period mentioned in December last year, nearly 800 people were also dying every day. The average now is about 70.

A reason then to be cautiously optimistic about the future?:)

Indeed, but short of that, NO stone should be left unturned, in terms of determining WHAT or WHO caused this bloody thing!

So far, 4.5 million people have died because of Covid, not including all manner of untold associated misery for millions more, so the cause simply can't just be brushed under the carpet - it needs thoroughly and intensely investigated, with some badly needed answers found to many pertinent questions [including justice done for its victims], with most importantly steps taken to ensure that it's unlikely to ever happen again!

Down now to 86 (https://coronavirus.data.gov.uk/) , which for me is significant, as if the virus was more actively virulent, the trend would be for deaths and hospitalisations to be on the increase daily. The latter still seems to be on the wane and generally showing a downward trend.

Currently, the only significant increase in numbers is weekly, on Tuesdays, with the expected catch up on data over the weekend, with Monday's stats always being artificially low, to reflect that. So let's hope that this encouraging trend continues!

The emergence of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus (SARS-CoV) and Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS)-CoV highlights the continued risk of cross-species transmission leading to epidemic disease. This manuscript describes efforts to extend surveillance beyond sequence analysis, constructing chimeric and full-length zoonotic coronaviruses to evaluate emergence potential. Focusing on SARS-like virus sequences isolated from Chinese horseshoe bats, the results indicate a significant threat posed by WIV1-CoV. Both full-length and chimeric WIV1-CoV readily replicated efficiently in human airway cultures and in vivo, suggesting capability of direct transmission to humans. In addition, while monoclonal antibody treatments prove effective, the SARS-based vaccine approach failed to confer protection. Together, the study indicates an ongoing threat posed by WIV1-related viruses and the need for continued study and surveillance.

I totally get that, Dave, and sympathise. The question is though, how long will you continue to worry, to the extent that it's controlling your life and stopping you from living life normally? Infection rates could continue to be high(ish) for a long time yet, vaccines or no vaccines, until the pandemic eventually peters out.

So yes, cocooning yourself from society may help keep you alive (if you really feel threatened by being exposed to this virus), but in the process are you really LIVING or merely existing - and are you happy settling for a rather dull existence as your future...?

That's not a 'life' worth living mate, certainly in my view anyway.

Marco,
I'm afraid that it's a dull existence for millions in the UK or die from Covid. Hopefully, the new cases will reduce to a handful and then I can relax a bit but for now, it's a case of keeping clear of other people, especially in enclosed spaces or die in a most horrible way.

I'm not locked away by any means, we still see Family, as we did at the weekend and go for meals out but I need to feel comfortable that there are not lots of people and there is ventilation. One mistake and that's it.

i want it a bit lower still before i can contemplate that.
i would visit may kids or mates tho. if it doesnt get much better than this tho in the future, then i will have to make a decision ...

Yup, sure mate. I totally get that. It's different for us, as we love going out to pubs/restaurants, the cinema, music gigs, days out to the country and/or coast, etc, as well as shopping physically in stores/farm shops for food provisions - and of course Del's got so many pals she loves socialising with/having girly nights out, etc.

So, much depends on how old you are, too. If you're an OAP, on your own, or perhaps with your wife or partner, you're going to be able to adjust to being stuck at home much more than someone half your age, or less, with an active social life and a desire to have FUN:)

Before Covid we did all that and more but with no immune system to speak of, life has changed dramatically for me and millions of other folk. My Wife is double jabbed and please God, is safe but there is the chance she can bring it home to me and I don't get a second chance.

We do as much as we possibly can now in the way of takeaways, some meals out, family days, travelling a bit, walking and shopping but there are things I can't ever imagine doing again such as going on a plane or a train. I also still do demos for customers - socially distanced, masks and with ventilation, so life is almost back to normal but will never be as it was pre Covid until the cases drop to a handful per day.

No worries, Dave. Totally get that:)

Anyway, I missed yesterday's update and noticed that deaths had dropped to 93, but hospitalisations had increased by 106, to 880, along with an increase in positive tests.

Today's situation: https://coronavirus.data.gov.uk/

Usual decrease in deaths over the weekend, although a little higher than usual at 61, which is up 34 on last weekend, with infection rates and hospitalisations still indicating an upward trend.

Still nothing too serious, as such, considering that we're still in the middle of a pandemic. However, Tuesday's stats will indicate whether the general upward trends, as outlined, are a sign of something more serious or not.

Usual low readings for some of the stats over the weekend and yesterday, with deaths down to 26: https://coronavirus.data.gov.uk/ however, infections and hospitalisations are still slightly on the rise.

scottish cases up, and deaths up.. over 10% of tests positive

Marco
17-08-2021, 16:02
Well. we know it's not over yet, don't we? Unless anyone was under any other illusions?;) The point is, while the virus is still with us in a significant way (in terms of new infections), then it follows that there's subsequently going to be more hospitalisations and deaths - that's the simple logic!:)

However... As long as the situation remains in control, by which I mean we don't start seeing the latter reaching the type of figures we saw before when there were 3500 hospitalisations per day, and up to 800 deaths, then it's not a major problem. And by 'major problem' I mean there being any danger of lockdowns or the pandemic spiraling out of control.

Interestingly, in that respect, the usual 'Tuesday hike', hasn't resulted in as bad stats as I'd expected: https://coronavirus.data.gov.uk/

Yes, deaths are up to 170, but they haven't tipped over the 200 mark since this '3rd wave' started.

I think death stats peaked at 185 or so, and I'd expect today's 170 to come down again tomorrow, as normally happens, showing that the situation is largely under control. This is also indicated by the stats for hospitalisations, which although up, are still well under the 880 we had at the time the 185 deaths were recorded.

Even daily infection rates, having peaked at around 32,000, during this 'wave', are continuing to hover now around the 27,000 mark, and show no signs yet of any major increases, simply small blips, up then down, repeatedly.

Therefore, the reality is, although there is currently an upwards trend in all key figures, things are levelling off after a series of weekly 'ups and downs'. The cycle has been fairly low figures from Friday to Monday, a spike on Tuesdays (when data recorded over the weekend refreshes), then a small downturn and levelling off of the figures until the Friday, with the same trend repeated, week on week.

Only if that cycle is broken, and on any given Tuesday we start seeing 300-400 deaths or more, with everything else going up at a similar rate, should there be any real cause for concern. So..... Whilst there are still naturally causes for concern, as indeed there are during any pandemic, we should keep things in perspective!

wed up here has had a large hike again. deaths again at around 10, but cases up by a thousand. n wales is highish too i see. not silly high but it all becomes worrying for people with potentially poor survival rates.
and thats why we look at infection rates. its not high in general for most folk who are protected but people like Dave especially are much more at risk.. me too to an extent.
im not saying , panic tho :)

Marco
19-08-2021, 01:37
Yeah, sure, I agree with all of that. Good to see in today's stats that deaths have reduced to 111: https://coronavirus.data.gov.uk/ although infections and hospitalisations are up again, so as I predicted, thankfully yesterday's spike in deaths has been built upon.

I think what all this shows is that the vaccines are effective and doing their job, otherwise the deaths would've risen exponentially with the increased infections and hospitalisations. However let's remember that the whole of the UK has now opened up with almost no restrictions, except for mask wearing outside of England in some indoor spaces.

Therefore, considering that's the case, things could've been much worse, which indeed many had predicted when restrictions were lifted, so if this is as bad as it gets, or close to that, before things start going the other way in the direction we want, then it's cause for cautious optimism:)

Anyway, let's see what tomorrow brings.

Sorry, Gary, I don't see things as having got out of control. We're still in the middle of a pandemic, so sometimes there's bound to be increases in infections and hospitalisations. That's normal. Therefore, "good news", as in we're not anywhere near where we were in January or February, in terms of hospitalisations or deaths.

Yes, at the moment things are increasing, **due to restrictions on mask wearing, etc, having been lifted almost throughout the UK** (so what did you expect to happen?) but that's quite a different matter from them being out of control. This, or a slight further increase in stats, could be as bad as things get this time round, before we start seeing a downward trend.

Therefore, let's see where we are, in say a months time, before we jump to any conclusions.

Yup, Steve, sure... My position on the matter was really made crystal clear here, 4 days ago: https://theartofsound.net/forum/showthread.php?68302-Johns-Hopkins-Medical-Centre-World-Coronavirus-infection-Map-by-Country&p=1286551#post1286551

There were 185 deaths a week ago. Today (albeit being a weekend) we had 104. Around the same time last week, there were 27,000-odd new infections. Today there were 32,000. A notable rise, yes, but it's nowhere near a situation that's out of control.

As I've said, we have to remember that we've had over a month now of restrictions, in terms of mask wearing, social distancing etc, being lifted in most parts of the UK, so that was always likely to result in a rise in infections, and with it, hospitalisations for the more vulnerable, particularly the non-vaccinated, which as shown in a previous link, are among the majority who've sadly died.

Therefore, as we ride this wave of the Delta variant, and more people become vaccinated, infection rates (and subsequent hospitalisations) should start to fall, and less people will die - BUT it may take a month or so to happen, with things getting worse before they get better!:)

Interesting stats today: https://coronavirus.data.gov.uk/

Deaths way down, but I'm pretty sure artificially so, due to the usual weekend lag on data, so we'll see what that looks like tomorrow, and in particular, Tuesday. New infections are still hovering around the 32k mark, but hospitalisations are markedly up, even for a Sunday...

Still no sign of things getting out of control, particularly in terms of new infections and deaths, but with hospitalisations increasing, it could be the case that the un-vaccinated and/or most vulnerable are paying the price for the current prominence of the virus.

getting worse here instead of better.

Sturgeon said that about half of all new cases were in people under the age of 25 with 34% of Tuesday's tally in the under 19s. as much as that helps, it still means there is far too much of the virus around at moment

Marco
24-08-2021, 16:09
Lol - you're still focussing (in my opinion too much) on infections. Yes I know why, and I do understand:) In contrast, overall here in Wales there were 1383 new cases/infections and 0 deaths. Quite different from Scotland, and the picture in North Wales is substantially better. You need to come down here, mate;)

However, the bigger picture (and the UK-wide perspective is this (as of today): https://coronavirus.data.gov.uk/

So, taking into consideration the usual 'Tuesday hike', there have been 30,838 reported new positive cases/infections [last week at this time there were 32,775], 858 hospitalisations [last week there were 948], and 174 deaths [last week there were 183].

Therefore, countrywide, the situation (for the moment anyway) is NOT getting out of control. Indeed based on the above figures, it appears (although it's way too early yet to say for sure) that things are on the wane.

However, what I suspect will occur is for those figures to largely stay the same (with small ups and downs each week, as indeed has been happening for a while now), until the effect of the recent removal of restrictions wears off and stabilises, which could take some time yet, after which we'll start to see a sharp fall in the numbers, especially as more younger people are vaccinated.

Plus, when the holiday season is over, and folks stay at home more and mingle less with others, that should also help!

Therefore, for the moment anyway, reasons to be optimistic. In that respect, let's see where we are tomorrow and during the coming week - and most importantly how things stand next Tuesday:cool:

Scotland's defo seeing a spike mate, like you say, especially in the west. I'm sure it'll peter out soon enough, though:)

Today's scene elsewhere: https://coronavirus.data.gov.uk/

Deaths are down to 149 (from yesterday's 174). Hospitalisations are up 1 to 859, but new infections are up to 35,847 (from yesterday's 30,838). Therefore, infections are clearly on the rise throughout the UK. Even in Wales they're up to 1705 (from yesterday's 1383), with 4 reported deaths.

I'm sure that the surge is down to some of the reasons mentioned, and so will reduce in due course. As I said, we're in the middle of an up and down cycle, so simply have to wait until things level off and start on a downward trend.

The good news is that, so far, the surge in new infections isn't having a massive impact on hospitalisations or deaths, and which means that things are still under control. However, we all want to see infection rates reducing as soon as possible.

Lol - what's not to understand, Alan? Things aren't getting out of control, as they were during previous 'waves', where there were 3500 hostpitalisations everyday and up 800 deaths.

Today there were 948 and 104, respectively. See here: https://coronavirus.data.gov.uk/

Yes, still too high, so we're far from over this yet, but not out of control, so for now at least, that's good news:)

Yes 'The Government' with a wave of its magic wand could solve all our problems. The only reason they don't is because they're bastards.

They could adopt a policy of taking action to stop all preventable deaths by any cause. It would mean bringing the world to a halt and everyone stopping alone in their bedrooms forever. Even then some people will still manage die by some avoidable manner, electrocuting themselves or starting a fire or something.

Taken to its logical conclusion it makes no sense whatsoever. Life is full of risks, we take our chances.

deaths up

Marco
26-08-2021, 16:19
State of play today... https://coronavirus.data.gov.uk/

Deaths and hospitalisations down again to 140 and 818 respectively (from previously 149 and 859). However, as expected, new cases/infections are continuing to rise, which I suspect will be the case (no pun intended) for a while to come, and rising to 38,281 (the highest since Feb) from yesterday's 35,847.

We'll see what tomorrow brings, but I'd expect much of the same. As Sandro says though, it does ably highlight how being vaccinated does next to fook all, in terms of stopping the SPREAD of the virus, which of course makes a mockery out of the efficacy of 'vaccine passports', or any other nonsense of that ilk, doing anything to protect the vaccinated from the non-vaccinated:mental:

Thank goodness they were largely defeated by people power, as they were really only about discrimination and control!

However, the flip side is that vaccines seem to be stopping people from dying and/or becoming hospitalised, as whatever way you cut it, considering the prevalence of the virus currently among the population, it's not making many people seriously ill, which of course is a good thing.

That said, and indeed as Sandro correctly states, there are many other things you can do, *on top of* being vaccinated (as outlined - basically eating healthily and boosting your immune system with the required vitamins), to help you be more resilient to Covid-19, which of course the fat cats make fuck all money from!;)

More tomorrow:cool:

Scotland has recorded a record number of daily Covid cases as the number surged above 6,000 for the first time.

A total of 6,835 new cases were reported on Friday - more than 1,800 above the previous highest figure.

This is the third time this week a new record has been set.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said the sharp rise was a "cause for concern" - but the Scottish government was not currently considering the introduction of a circuit breaker lockdown.

However, she stressed the importance of everyone "playing their part" in halting the spread of the virus.

depressing

Marco
27-08-2021, 15:49
Like I said mate, the rise in cases is largely due to it still being the holiday season, so folks (of all ages) are moving around and mingling more, thus spreading the virus. It'll die down after that, so say, around October, I'd expect to see the stats for new cases nosediving:)

State of play today elsewhere [yesterday's figures are shown below in brackets]: https://coronavirus.data.gov.uk/

Positive tests: 38,046 (38,281).

Deaths: 100 (140).

Hospitalisations: 948 (818).

So a slight rise in hospitalisations, which is undestandable, given the current prevalence of the virus, but unwelcome. However, deaths are down, as are new cases.

In Wales (yesterday's figures in brackets)...

New cases: 1791 (2389).

Deaths: 5 (0).

As I said, this 'rollercoaster' ride we're on, with the figures going up and down all the time, is what it's going to be like for a while. Massive difference though in the situation in Wales, compared with Scotland.

About as likely as England's increase in infections being attributed to folks from Wales coming over the border to cough their Covid all over the English shops :ner:

Seriously, I think it more likely to be due to Wales being largely empty. I'm betting that throughout this pandemic Wales has consistently had fewer cases per capita than has England, regardless of policy differences.

Flattening the Risk: Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis for COVID-19 | IDR (dovepress.com) (https://www.dovepress.com/articles.php?article_id=58280)

Hydroxychloroquine PrEPWhere can we find a prophylactic treatment that is easy to use, inexpensive and already available? One answer lies in a medication that has generated significant controversy so far in the pandemic: hydroxychloroquine (HCQ). This medication has been used in combination with azithromycin for treatment of established SARS-CoV-2 infection, with variable results.20 (https://www.dovepress.com/articles.php?article_id=58280#cit0020),21 (https://www.dovepress.com/articles.php?article_id=58280#cit0021) There has been concern about cardiac and retinal toxicity with high-dose HCQ, especially because azithromycin increases blood levels of the medication.22 (https://www.dovepress.com/articles.php?article_id=58280#cit0022),23 (https://www.dovepress.com/articles.php?article_id=58280#cit0023) Furthermore, shortages of the two antimicrobials have occurred due to overprescribing in the face of the pandemic. Nevertheless, the combination appears to be effective in patients with early COVID-19, although it appears to be less effective in hospitalized patients with advanced disease.20 (https://www.dovepress.com/articles.php?article_id=58280#cit0020),21 (https://www.dovepress.com/articles.php?article_id=58280#cit0021) HCQ treatment was shown to protect multiple organs from inflammation in hospitalized COVID-19 patients.24 (https://www.dovepress.com/articles.php?article_id=58280#cit0024) In one uncontrolled study, HCQ prophylaxis in a hospital setting with a known SARS-CoV-2 exposure prevented dissemination of viral infection.25 (https://www.dovepress.com/articles.php?article_id=58280#cit0025)

Forgot to update things yesterday: https://coronavirus.data.gov.uk/

State of play so far [previous day's figures are shown below in brackets]

Positive tests: 32,406 (38,046).

Deaths: 133 (100).

Hospitalisations: 969 (948).

The interesting one there is the reduction in positive tests, which could be seen as a good thing, but I suspect the figures are lower because of the weekend, and of course with the bank holiday tomorrow, Tuesday's 'catch up' figures may not be as accurate as usual. Therefore, we may have to wait until Wednesday to see the real picture.

Aside from that, it's much as before, with ups and downs between both hospitalisations and deaths.

In Wales (again, previous day's figures in brackets)...

New cases: 2357 (1791).

Deaths: 3 (5).

So, new cases are on the rise, and over a weekend, so slightly concerning, but that could be down to number of factors. Again, we'll see what Tues/Weds has to offer.

Let's not lose sight of the fact though that since the vaccines were introduced, deaths throughout the UK during current waves of the virus have been consistently low - and I'm pretty sure that's likely to be the case going forward as we learn to LIVE with Covid.

Marco.

more record cases in scotland today.. 7113 i think it was..

Marco
30-08-2021, 06:34
Yups, I hear wee Nicola's also had to self-isolate... Hope the rates start to fall soon in Scotland, but I suspect things might get worse before they get better.

State of play elsewhere yesterday (with the previous day's figures shown in brackets below): https://coronavirus.data.gov.uk/

Positive tests: 33,196 (32,406).

Deaths: 61 (133).

Hospitalisations: 969 (969).

Obviously on a Sunday during a bank holiday weekend it's difficult to read too much into the stats.

However, the death figure is interesting, which is around half what it was last Sunday, where of course a lag in data updates was also the case, and which *could* indicate the beginning of a sustained downward trend. In that respect, we'll see what tomorrow and Wednesday brings.

Otherwise, things are much the same.

In Wales... No new updates in stats due to Bank Holiday.

Soz, don't get it, mate. On Saturday there were 5858 new cases in Scotland (as shown on your BBC links), on Sunday there were 7113, and now today it's gone down to 3893, so that appears to be a good sign, no?

The unusual thing was that it went up so high on Sunday, when there's normally a lag on data, and now has dropped sharply today. Therefore, we'll need to see what the new cases figure is tomorrow, to get an accurate picture of the situation in Scotland.

Elsewhere in the UK (with the previous day's figures shown in brackets below): https://coronavirus.data.gov.uk/

Positive tests: 26,476 (33,196).

Deaths: 48 (61).

Hospitalisations: 969 (969).

Bizarrely, the figures for hospitalisations have remained the same for the last three days, which for me suggests that they haven't been properly updated yet. However, both new cases and deaths have reduced significantly, although of course this could be due to the delay over the bank holiday.

In that respect, we'll see the real picture tomorrow.

I’ve been searching for COVID-19 “case” definition, best I could find:-

https://www.ecdc.europa.eu/en/covid-19/surveillance/case-definition

So if we consider A,B or C case definitions in the statistics being quoted, what’s the breakdown?

If we use A as being a case, then this applies:-

Any person with at least one of the following symptoms [1]:

- cough

- fever

- shortness of breath

- sudden onset of anosmia, ageusia or dysgeusia

Wonder how much of group A is actually confirmed to group C, and again which statistics are being created?

Does group A include Test and Trace contacts?

depends on how many they test tho.,. you can get a lower number by testing half the amount. you can see we have 3 areas that are well over 1000 per 100000... that is a lot, as it means there will be at least same again out amung us that have it. thats dangerous for likes of me. and its folk like me that end up dying, not the younger folk that are spreading it if you know what i mean.

I know Gary, it's all rather woolly...

The only reason I'm using the government website as the source for stats, is because that's what drives their agenda! Therefore, as long as the key figures remain in the 'acceptable region', I know we're unlikely to see any further restrictions imposed.

Yeah, I get what you mean, and sure:)

However, I'm just looking at things in a black and white way (as we can't validate the accuracy of your above assertion).

Therefore, 7113 new cases on the Sunday is 3220 more than the 3893 reported on Monday, which for whatever reason, is a significant difference - and a marked reduction, which subject to what the figures are like later today, could be the beginning of a sustained downward trend.

Anyway, for the sake of simplicity, I'll just be sticking with the main (black & white) figures quoted (by the GOV) for these updates:)

Today's stats for the UK (with the previous day's figures shown in brackets below): https://coronavirus.data.gov.uk/

Positive tests: 32,181 (26,476).

Deaths: 50 (48).

Hospitalisations: 901 (969).

Interesting figures... I suspect that due to Monday being a Bank Holiday, they won't have been fully updated, as per usual for a Tuesday.

However, there appears to be a sustained marked reduction in deaths (good news), which was happening over most of last week, and I suspect is likely to become a sustained trend in the weeks and months to come, as more of the population become vaccinated and medical staff in hospitals learn more about how to manage and treat patients with Covid.

We'll see what tomorrow brings, which will likely reflect a truer picture of the current situation. However, I would expect deaths to remain low, continuing the current downward trend, and for positive tests and hospitalisations to begin levelling off, before they start reducing in line with deaths.

looking a the figures it seems like the number of UK deaths levelled off back at the end of February. Inclines me to think that most of the covid deaths are no longer a direct result of covid. Otherwise the number of deaths would still be rapidly increasing.

Sure... The only thing that's been in any way 'rapidly increasing' recently is new cases, which by the nature of the beast, will slow down and begin to fall in due course.
