Definitely not new. It’s just tying facial and gait recognition to a database. Recognition software is donkeys old, it’s even been in Apple’s photo software (iPhoto then Photos) for years, and even that can calculate the same person’s face even if they age significantly.

I put the smart-phone facial recognition software to the test today.

My partner often wants me to take her photograph with her smart-phone (I don't have one). When I point the phone at her, the camera recognises her and the camera just clicks away without me having to do anything. But today, she wanted me to take a photo of her wearing a mask, which of course covers much of her face. The camera didn't recognise her and so I had to press the button.

Just a little demonstration of how you can be tracked, this is not new or even current but it demonstrates how not only can you be tracked but they can check how far apart you are.

Ok, thanks. Just to be clear: I couldn't give a flying fuck about being 'tracked' or 'spied upon' in town centres, as I've got nothing to hide [lead a reasonably non-eventful life], so track and spy away, until you're heart's content..

What I have a BIG problem with isn't being spied upon or surveilled, but CONTROLLED, or worse, *enslaved* by the state, which is potentially one day where all this tech could lead to, IF abused by the relevant authorities.

Therefore, it's not being spied upon that's the problem, unless you're up to no good and have something to hide; it's what the plan ultimately is for all the spying.

I think what Gary was getting at, is the powers that be, through this technology, face recognition etc etc...means, they potentially, don't even have to get out of their seats to send you a £200.00 fine for not social distancing..as your face will be on a data base with all your details..allegedly

Shocking. mate, but the harsh reality is that they (the police, including your son-in-law) are just dispensable pawns in a corrupt system. The REAL authorities don't give give a flying fuck about their 'foot soldiers', as long as they carry out orders, far less your or me - and with how things are going, that situation is only set to get worse!

That's why 'people power' is SO vitally important, especially now, and if necessary not being afraid to stand up and FIGHT for your rights/freedoms, protesting in the streets if necessary, and defeating all forms of disgusting fascist dictatorship.

Eldest daughter (NHS worker) has signed up for an Imperial College antibody testing project and has found that she has Covid 19 antibodies.

I guess that this means we have all been infected - youngest came home from Uni' December 2019 in a right state, continual "dry" cough/high temperature. We had not heard of Covid 19 at the time (it think that it is supposed to have entered UK in January/February 2020).
Early January, I was really rough, woke up in the night over the course of several days feeling quite panicky and having difficulty breathing. About a week after I felt a bit better I tried to go for a bike ride, but gave up after twenty minutes with chest pains. When I went to the doctor, he couldn't find any sign of chest infection.
Eldest daughter felt very tired/running temperature in March, she went to bed for a couple of days. She had Covid test on returning to work which came back negative.
Wife also had "a bit of a cold" (she's quite tough, Suffolk farming stock :)).

My point to all this is that if my suspicions are correct Covid 19 must have been in the UK (Brighton University at least) back in December 2019 at least.
I just wish that all my family could have an antibody test.

I think way more has been made of this than is necessary, but that’s the mad worldwide culture these days brought on by sensationalist media. Everything, but everything is chaos, a disaster, tragedy, scandal and a world changing event. In actual fact none of it warrants this ridiculous panic and shutting down of the world.

Tell that to the families of the 100,000 who died of Covid.

Filterlab

That's just it though. If you read CAREFULLY, a lot of those figures are obviously incorrect. Read "He died with COVID" (and not 'of'), "She was diagnosed with COVID" (but it wasn't necessarily the cause of death or even an attributing factor). It's still all chalked up as COVID deaths though.

Ironically, and not surprisingly, all other causes of death have allegedly dropped in the past year. I can't help feeling that a lot of the true figures have been brushed under the carpet and hidden by COVID.

The government is so warped with its figures these days that it's hard to know what the ACTUAL death rate is. And look at other causes of death year on year; pneumonia itself killing 4,000,000 a year worldwide, yet does everything get closed and masked and prohibited because of that? No, of course not.

Warped, bent lies for a massive proportion of it.

I'm not saying that COVID isn't a cause of death, not at all, but the reaction to it is OTT in so many ways.

If we had not left the EU the Germans would have insisted that UK produced vaccine were allocated according to their whim.
FFS they haven't even cleared it for use yet and, unlike the UK government, wanted to argue about the price from Astrazeneca (hence the THREE MONTH delay in the EU ordering any).

Interesting that within a day of the EU demanding that a UK based company forget about a pre existing order from the UK, we find that the French have admitted that they can't produce a vaccine in the amounts needed (are the two announcements related :hmm:)

Absolutely.

I think it is called "spread betting", UK Gov' made orders for four different types at a time when it wasn't certain which would work - a "gamble perhaps, but better than sitting around moaning like the French.

Apparently the French "Europe minister", Clement Beaune, doubts the efficacy of the Astra - Zeneca vaccine, and is slagging off the recklessness of the UK (even though the EU has finally given the Astra' jab the ok and they have made threats to NI border trade in order to try to get their hands on it ).
Must be elections in France soon and they need to blame us for their shortcomings.

Very interesting pricing (according to the Times today):
Astra' £2.25/dose
Pfizer £14.63/dose
Moderna £18.50 - £27.75/dose
Novavax £12.00/dose

At those prices perhaps Gov UK plans on giving us all half a dozen shots of the Astra' jab

Yes, interesting that the commission is refusing to talk about Germany breaking EU agreements, but seem to be OK questioning the actions of our government:scratch:

National Geographic article 22nd January 2021

https://www.nationalgeographic.co.uk/science-and-technology/2021/01/covid-19-will-likely-be-with-us-forever-heres-how-well-live-with-it?utm_source=pocket-newtab-global-en-GB

Anderson adds that depending on how the evolution of the virus progresses, lineages of SARS-CoV-2 may arise that are distinct enough that vaccines will need to be tailored to specific regions akin to vaccines for pneumococcus. To successfully guard against SARS-CoV-2 going forward, we will need a global monitoring network similar to the worldwide reference laboratories used to collect, sequence, and study variants of influenza.

“We’re going to have to live with it, we’re going to have to have constant vaccination, and we’re constantly going to have to have a very sophisticated molecular surveillance program to keep track of how the virus is evolving,” Anderson says.

The 12 week gap looks to have been correct

A single dose of the Oxford/AstraZeneca coronavirus vaccine is 76 per cent effective from three weeks to 12 weeks after the injection, according to an analysis of trial data that could boost confidence in the UK’s decision to delay second doses and vaccinate more people more quickly.

In a paper*published on Tuesday*but not yet peer-reviewed, researchers at Oxford university said the single dose had shown efficacy of 76 per cent from 22 up to 90 days post-vaccination, “with the protection showing little evidence of waning in this period”.

The researchers also found that spacing the first and second doses over a longer period yielded better long-term efficacy — a fact previously defended theoretically, but not shown empirically with large-scale evidence for coronavirus vaccines. Vaccine efficacy rose to 82.4 per cent following a second doses after 12 weeks, Oxford said.

My main concern with the continuation with all of this; is the constant distribution of wealth from the taxes that come out of the pockets of the everyday people like us, into the hands of those who already have more than they should, and its happening in every country that participates in it, some people actualy think that a free vaccine is actualy free, they have no concept of how it was paid for, and to who that money ends up with and the increase in power that acompanies it, this is why as long as this continues, i fear our country, and our fellow citizens will become poorer, mental health and physical abuse will sky rocket, and as for the suicide rate, especialy amongst the youngsters who see no way out of this, it doesent bear thinking about. :(
But on a brighter note, its clap time for the NHS again tonight, and apparently they are combining it with Captain Tom, who by the way i have the utmost respect for, and his acheivments, and god bless him :)

Yup, I agree with all the comments, and he had the time to achieve some good things, which as you say will hopefully have impacted positively around the world on the right people.

Let's not forget too, that at over 100 years old, he had a pretty good innings and would've gone sometime soon anyway. Often it's better living less long, but WELL (as in having achieved good things that made you happy, and making nice memories with your loved ones), than longer, but LESS WELL, and not having been as happy or fulfilled.

I know which I'd chose, and in that respect I'm sure that the last few months of his life were perhaps some of his happiest, where he managed to achieve things, such as being knighted by the Queen, he'd never have dreamed of. He certainly got to make his mark on the world in a positive way, which but for the pandemic wouldn't have been possible.

Just a positive take on things, on a lovely old man, the likes of whom we'll never see again. R.I.P Captain Tom:)

Interesting thread here on Twitter, not just for the video showing yet more disgraceful police brutality, permitted by the new Coronavirus Act, supposedly in the interests of 'Public Health', but for some of the insightful comments afterwards, which are worth reading:

https://twitter.com/BigBrotherWatch/status/1347264640552759296?s=20

We MUST ensure that when we get out of this current mess (in some shape or form) and return to some semblance of normality, that we continue to fight for our human rights and freedoms, and don't allow the authorities (least of all the fascist thugs in uniforms, posing as 'Police'), or those controlling them, to bully us or enforce unjust rules, preventing us from LIVING, and merely existing!:guns::guns:

KEEP BRITAIN A FREE AND DEMOCRATIC COUNTRY - NOT TURNED INTO A FASCIST POLICE STATE, as none of us want to live in a glorified version of South Korea!! WE MUST *ALWAYS* STAND UP AND FIGHT FOR OUR FREEDOMS.

POWER TO THE PEOPLE FOREVER!!!!

Very well said. People seem to forget that the police are human beings and have a job to do, whether gobby, aggressive people with an overblown sense of their own self-importance like it or not.

In my experience, if you are polite and respectful to the police then everything goes much more smoothly.

And you might even get away with a stern warning instead of the speeding ticket that you were sure was absolutely inevitable.

Interesting perspective on the video, Alan, clearly showing your pro-Police bias. Similarly too, in only considering as 'insightful' the comments that best fit with your particular mindset/belief system...;)

From the bits that were clear, I saw something rather different, and from the bits that weren't, and it all kicked off and only voices were heard, from where I considered most of the aggression seemed to be coming. Also, just because something represents the law, doesn't automatically make it right! And I'm not specifically referring to this situation.

You have to be very careful that 'the law' isn't allowed to become grossly UNFAIR, UNJUST or simply too DRACONIAN, and ultimately *always* respects people's CIVIL LIBERTIES, in what is supposedly a free country, although increasingly becoming less so. Remember that the police are supposed to be PUBLIC SERVANTS, not vice versa....!

And regardless of what was really happening in that clip, and who was genuinely at fault, the fact is, since the beginning of this pandemic we've seen increasing instances of, let's politely call it, 'rampant authoritarianism', by the Police, with some regional forces much worse than others, and trust me with the increased powers that they're being given, under this new 'Coronavirus Act', often with which to abuse for their own dangerously controlling ends (or rather those pulling their strings), it's only likely to get worse.

In that respect, we must do everything we can to protect our democratic rights and our liberties, and ensure that we can continue living in a free country, rather than it edging ever closer to becoming a Police state.

Marco [will always FIGHT as much as is necessary to protect his FREEDOMS].

Or perhaps people simply sticking up for themselves and unwilling to be bullied by thugs in uniforms, abusing their authority? I'm sorry, but state the PROOF from that video, which confirms your assertion as fact, and I mean FACT, not just how you've interpreted things.

In any case, we clearly think very differently on this matter, Adam, so probably best simply to agree to disagree.

Don't get me wrong though, I'm all for genuine "gobby, aggressive people with an overblown sense of their own self-importance" being given a damn good slap when they deserve it, but not when such are simply innocent people refusing to bow down to misuses of authority.

And as I said, I'm not just referring to the video footage above, but life in general.

My thoughts; First of all, the first thing that comes to mind is how peoples attitudes have changed towards authority since all of this [what ever it is] started, we are now seeing a dramatic increase in people [not necessarily this family, we don't know them] who in normal times are law abiding people who are now afte a year of this at their witts end, and it just takes something to push them over the edge, which is posibly what happend here, the longer this goes on, the more i suspect we will see like this, the police have a job to do, and i believe that most join the police force to do good, there have always been bad apples amongst all forces, the police are human beings just like us, but they have been put in an imposible situation where they are being pulled from both sides, and at the moment their strings are being tightly pulled one way, i have said before, and i will say again, this will end when the people decide enough is enough, and when i say people i mean everyone, including the forces.

Marco

Well, you made that rather sweeping statement, which I highlighted, so I was simply asking for the evidence you seen from the footage which prompted it?

Regardless of anything else, it a) appears that there wasn't anyone in the house who shouldn't have been there, so aside from, I agree, the overly aggressive stance from the mother initially, which didn't help matters, the call was unwarranted, and b) the utterly shameful unconcern for her safety by the police, when the mother's resident [clearly highly distressed], epileptic daughter, was flailing around the floor during the scuffle!!

That should NEVER have happened, and their No1 concern should've been for the safety and welfare of that child, not for what appeared to be one of the officer's fighting with the father. In that situation, no wonder both parents were going ballistic, trying to protect their daughter from harm! Therefore, IMO, the overall handling of the situation by the police was not only heavy-handed, but disgraceful and shameful.

So yes, we'll agree to disagree, and I'll stick with the summary stated on the thread concerned:

"We have reviewed a lot of poor and unlawful policing during the pandemic. This may be the most heinous and senseless example yet."

And we simply can't just sit back and take that pish. A concerted stance against it must be made!

First of all, the first thing that comes to mind is how peoples attitudes have changed towards authority since all of this [what ever it is] started, we are now seeing a dramatic increase in people [not necessarily this family, we don't know them] who in normal times are law abiding people who are now afte a year of this at their witts end, and it just takes something to push them over the edge, which is posibly what happend here.

I agree, mate, but remember who are supposed to be the *trained professionals*!!!

Properly trained police should know how to CALM a situation like that, and seek to do so, not inflame it:doh:

looks to me like the copper was already wound up by the abuse the woman was giving him, he threatens to arrest her if she carries on, at that point the bloke puts his hand on the copper's arm and the cop goes straight into subduing him. A bit over the top reaction by the copper, but then he is young and probably inexperienced.

of course in most other countries in the world if you were that aggressive to the cops you'd get a beating and be chucked in jail. And you'd need family to bring you food while you were in there as they don't provide it. And they can keep you in there without charge or trial for as long as they want. So it's all relative.

Notice the husband does nothing to control his wife, just stands there passively while she digs a hole for herself. You can see who wears the trousers in that house.

Indeed, mate, and we don't want the UK becoming anything remotely like that either, which is why when this sort of thing happens, it deserves highlighted and criticised in public. When/if we ever lose our right to do that, and CHALLENGE the authorities accordingly, that's when to worry!;)

I agree with the rest of your comments. The main point though was that the police appeared to show zero concern for the safety or well-being of the disabled child on the floor, who was a completely innocent party. That alone was both inexcusable and disgraceful.

Also, I haven't fully read the new laws, surrounding Coronavirus and this pandemic, but do they allow police just break into people's homes without a warrant? Or in the video concerned, did they only manage to gain entry because the owner opened the door and let them in?

The UK Cops, who are protectors of Property, and allegedly, Human Rights have been going downhill for years!

I used to work with a singularly deranged individual. Had some theory about Valhalla and the Vikings.

You can guess he was a bit Right-Wing.

Covid vaccines extremely safe, finds UK regulator

The Pfizer and AstraZeneca vaccines being given to millions of people in the UK by the NHS are extremely safe, with some mild expected side-effects, says the country's drugs regulator.

It assessed safety reports from nearly seven million doses given up to 24 January - mostly with the Pfizer jab.

Some 22,820 suspected reactions were reported. Around three in every 1,000 people vaccinated were affected.

Almost all cases were mild, such as a sore arm or flu-like illness.

These after-effects are not the disease itself, but the body's response to the vaccine. They usually get better within a couple of days, says the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency.

Severe allergic reactions to the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine can happen but are very rare - between one and two cases per 100,000 doses administered, experts estimate. The MHRA received received 101 allergy-related reports.

Doctors already say people with a history of significant allergic reactions to ingredients in the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine should not receive it.

I gather the Pfizer vaccine has been withdrawn for use on older people in the UK. It seems to be more associated with adverse reactions than the other options.

A report from Norway is a bit alarming: https://www.express.co.uk/news/world/1384728/Covid-vaccine-latest-side-effects-Pfizer-jab-23-dead-Norway-coronavirus-update?int_source=traffic.outbrain&int_medium=traffic.outbrain&int_term=traffic.outbrain&int_content=traffic.outbrain&int_campaign=traffic.outbrain

These were elderly people, but the incidence of problems was apparently rather high in proportion to the numbers vaccinated.

There's a fair bit of info out there about this, look it up.

Other countries have also seen similar, mainly in elderly patients.
There have also been a few reported cases in the relatively young, with no underlying health issues too, how many others go un reported
With a 99.7% recovery rate from the virus, and thus a much stronger and affective immune response [and i suspect it will be similar for any new strain that gets detected] i can't for the life of me understand why folk who are otherwise healthy contemplate accepting any of them, but then i can't understand a lot of things where folk are concerned! :(

It's a simple matter of percentages. 0.3% chance of dying from virus, vaccine will reduce that to practically zero. Weighed against the chance the coronavirus vaccines are the only vaccines ever to have long term deleterious side-effects, which is practically zero.

As a gambling proposition, it's worth having the vaccine by a long margin.

Added to which the chance of not dying but being seriously ill and having to go into hospital, maybe on a ventilator with tubes down your throat and that. I risk the vaccine to prevent that outcome too.

So broadly speaking, we have older and more vulnerable folk who are for the vaccine, and younger people and those who think they are 'safe' against it. I predict that in the future we will see many countries denying access to visitors if they don't have a vaccination "certificate". Good luck..to everyone who will be refusing to have the vaccine..

Thank you, Alan. Nothing is ever certain of course and there are always risks (even if you have the vaccine).

However, hopefully I should be ok, given that Covid has arguably been present in the UK since Oct 2019 (perhaps even before), and certainly since the beginning of 2020, yet despite that, and outside of lockdown, travelling around the UK, going to pubs and restaurants, church, shopping to various places on numerous occasions, whilst observing all necessary precautions, and *crucially* my wife having tested positive for Covid (just before Xmas, after displaying all the usual symptoms), and being with her 24/7 since, I've avoided becoming ill in any way.

Of course, that's not to say I haven't had the virus myself, and was asymptomatic, but if I'm not going to catch it from someone who's had it, and whom I'm sleeping beside every night and continually sharing a house with, or if I'm asymptomatic, then the chances (although of course not impossible) from me dying from the virus are likely slim to perhaps almost non-existent.

However, as the only vaccine I've every knowingly had was a BCG jab, for TB, when I was 15, and as someone (a healthy, fit person, not been near a doctor in about 15 years, who takes no pills and suffers from no ailments), who's neither used to nor predisposed to having vaccines, (of any description, not even flu jabs) and wouldn't know if I would have a bad reaction to this one, and it possibly be detrimental to my health, either in the short, medium or long-term, that's my rationale for not having a vaccine for Covid:)

However, after much discussion with my dad (who's nearly 88), and deliberation, despite my reservations about the longer term safety of these new vaccines, which he knew about and understood, we both agreed that he should have his, which he did early last week, and so far he's been absolutely fine. Again though, he's a pretty fit man for his age and also suffers from no real ailments (not on meds for anything either), so he's probably not your average 87-year old.

What's useful though is knowing that my wife's had Covid, and got through it ok (although she still has some minor lasting effects, such as her sense of taste and smell not having yet returned to 100%), I've been exposed to it and survived, and I can now monitor my dad's reaction to the vaccine, plus if it has gievn him some level of immunity, then that can only be good - all these things give me some peace of mind, especially in terms of looking forward to life becoming more normal again soon:cool:

As it has been stated before in these pages (not by me) that the tests aren't completely reliable, there's a chance that Del didn't have Covid, but perhaps just the common cold. Loss of taste and smell (she'll miss that when she has to go back to enduring your fart gas) can be a symptom of a cold, not just Covid. The fact that yourself and your dad (who is in your support bubble) haven't caught it from her, could bear this out.

A valid point, but that could also apply to countless thousands of others who've had the test and returned positive results, so what does that say for the accuracy of quoted transmission rates?

In any case, she was bad enough to spend a night in hospital on oxygen (as she's always suffered from chest complaints), because it turned into Covid pneumonia (as diagnosed by a doctor), and I seen how ill she was when the ambulance came to pick her up, so I think we can safely rule out a cold!;)

Cheers, mate. I didn't mention it because I wanted to monitor the situation and her recovery, so I could comment on the subject here from a position of experience:)

Unfortunately when Del even gets a bad cold, it often goes down to her chest and develops into pneumonia, therefore she's very susceptible to chest infections, and so if she caught Covid it was always liable to be problematic. However, she's had full-blown pneumonia before (turning into costochondritis), which for her was FAR worse than Covid, so at least she's able to make a valid comparison.

When the ambulance came to collect her that night, she was in a right state (almost drifting into a coma, with her temperature through the roof), and I was genuinely concerned, but after being pumped with steroids and antibiotics in hospital, plus receiving oxygen, she improved remarkably. Then the next day, mid afternoon, she was able to come home and continue her recovery - and it took a while!

So, in terms of myself, I think I can safely say that with what's happened with Del, I've been exposed first-hand to Covid, and survived. Of course I could catch it somewhere else, with different results, but hey life's full of risks and none of us lives forever!;)

Lol - yeah I think she'll be fine, As for me, no-one can believe I didn't get any symptoms. It's typical though, as I generally catch hee-haw (flus, colds or whatever) when others are dropping around me like flies.

In fact, it was funny with the track & trace people... They obviously knew Del had Covid, but they wanted to monitor me, to see if I developed symptoms, so every day at a certain time someone would phone up to see how I was and if I'd developed any symptoms, which they're supposed to do for a week. However, after the 4th day of me telling them 'no, I'm fine', they gave up!:D

The good thing though, with me not becoming ill, was that I was able to look after Del, and nurse her to recovery. She loves being pampered like a princess at the best of times, so she was lapping up the attention big time, 'WANT chips, WANT tea, WANT cakey', etc! You know what she's like:eyebrows:

No seriously though, she wasn't a well wee girl for a while, but thankfully she pulled through, and we feel stronger and more confident about things now for it... In terms of my dad, we just felt that on balance it was better for him to have the vaccine than not:)

Interesting, Geoff... Some folks just seem able to bat away Covid, without any reaction, or not catch it in the first place. I guess it's all down to their immune system.

It's a bit like the 70s drama series 'Survivors' (if you remember that?), when the outbreak of a virus, accidentally released in a lab, had killed off large sections of the population, and the survivors were left to rebuild the world!

Not sure that it was Covid 19, but something really hit me back in January 2020 - high temp', real problems with breathing, dry cough for a week and chest pains for quite a while after the worse.

Anyway, three possibilities:

Step son of brother in law had been to Singapore for Christmas with his biological father and we met up when he got back.
or, My youngest daughter we had to pick her up from uni' at Brighton just before Christmas - same symptoms as I got a couple of weeks later
or, school - I was doing some teaching at the time and schools are breeding grounds for diseases (teenagers are dirty, most will cough/sneeze and wipe hands on tables - really surprised me how long schools were kept open. Teenagers may not get many of the problems, but they can certainly incubate the bugs:vomfest::vomfest:)

That part, Rich, I *wholeheartedly* agree with. I've heard some of them uttering [rather dangerous] shite such as 'It's comfy wearing a mask, as it keeps your face warm', or worse 'You can hide from people and become more invisible'... COME AGAIN???:eek::doh:

Why do these fucking weirdos want to HIDE...??

I don't EVER want to become "comfy" wearing a mask, or for any real length of time, to become accustomed to or 'attached' to one!! That's precisely why I haven't bought a 'bespoke' one , or turned it into a fucking fashion accessory, unlike countless thousands of others!

Mask wearing is completely alien in normal society, and also to a healthy existence, and moreover utterly dehumanising. Therefore, I don't want them to be part of any 'new norm', so as soon as we're finally rid of the fuckers (or as rid of them as possible), I'll gladly celebrate by setting fire to every bloody one I've got left!!

In 5 years time, all I want is for them to represent a very distant and bad memory!

Well you are still a nipper. I was 63 last month.

It feels like a race now - this afternoon I arrived at a house to fit a window, and the tenants came to the door to say one of them feels pretty ropey and got a positive result yesterday. So that was me gone in a cloud of squealing tyre smoke.

Thing is, I was scheduled to fit the window on Saturday, but glass arrived late. If I had fitted it then, where would I now be? It's all getting a bit close to home.
