Lol - still don't get the relevance of that (rather obscure video) to the discussion about Ullman...? Not to worry, and anyway I thought you'd learned how to embed YT videos?:ner:;)

That's because you're not trying hard enough, and also because you got up too early - easier to follow that than it is to embed YT videos on this crappy laptop. It let me do it once then no more :(
Anyway don't worry your pretty little head, the Kinnock thing wasn't funny anyway

Ahhh, I see the police don’t have to follow the same rules as the rest of us when it comes to social contact.
A couple of days ago they fined two women for walking in the countryside with a cup of coffee, but apparently the police are allowed to have a get together in a café (which should be shut).
More disgusting police behaviour. Typical these days sadly.

Not right for the police to be ignoring the rules/guidlines (not sure what to call them at the moment ) BUT, there is something about those two women meeting for a walk which is making my "bullshit radar" twitch, although I can't quite put a good reason to it.
They both seem to be enjoying posing for photo's a little too much?
The officer telling them that their coffee was a "picnic" could either be: The copper involved was an arrogant arsehole (quite possible in my experience) or they had been arrogant arseholes and the officer was trying to make life awkward for them.
There seems to be some sort of effort to video "evidence" of police overstepping the mark at the moment, along with videoing empty hospitals to prove that there is no virus problem (this happened in Colchester).
This link alleges that anti lockdown protesters are trying to engineer "showdowns"

Easy hook for them - like hiding in a hedge with a camera. Easy work that guarantees results. Perfect for a lazy copper.

Doesn't alter the fact the police are still arresting people for sitting on a bench.
Filterlab

And frankly, police grouping around an individual sitting on a bench is more of a risk COVID-wise than just leaving people be. Silly waste of time and resources, for nothing other than a diminishing respect from the public.
It's January, it's literally freezing cold outside and yet someone wants to go to a park and sit there on a bench.
There's absolutely no sense to that.
I think this is like with reverse psychology on children; they would never even consider doing something but then as soon as you tell them they're not allowed to do it they're straight there.

Oh it gets better....they were in separate cars too...a fact the Mail hasn't disclosed, so it looks like they've both met at a halfway point to go for a walk so neither of them had to drive 14 miles, now I'm getting more facts, perhaps I was harsh saying the fines should stand...I have to relent and recant my previous statement

There's nothing else to do! Everywhere is closed, people don't want to spend all day at home, down here in Brighton you see people all along the seafront doing exactly that, remember this lockdown has been with us for the best part of a year, really gonna impact peoples physical and mental health by staying indoors that long.
Can't say it's bothered me any.
You can go for a walk, all they're saying is just don't sit down and hang about. If it was warm and sunny I could see why some would be tempted to. But it isn't.
this lockdown only started a week ago and already people are so desperate they have to go out and sit on a bench. In the freezing cold. I'll bet almost all of them have never done that in their lives before now.

And now you've got these people, all they've been asked to do is stay in their houses (with their internet, TV, music, radio, video games and god knows what else to occupy them) as much as is practical and it's 'Ooh my mental health!'

Same here, i'm in virtual meetings and need to give virtual demo's of our products too, which enables me to leave the house and travel to our demo centre in Leeds, there's no one there but me, but it's a nice drive.
Regarding the rules i'd draw everyones attention to South Korea, they enforced some pretty harsh measures but the general population adhered to them to the letter and they have Covid well and truly under control, over here during the 1st lockdown i've never seen so many dogs being walked and bikes being ridden, somehow we managed to slow Covid down but i think after the 1st lockdown ended a lot of people had had enough and aren't taking the rules seriously enough anymore, it's good that the government have finally realised that Covid can be transmitted in classrooms which they seemed to ignore for too long in my opinion and hopefully by June which is when about half of the population should be inoculated we will start to get back to how it was in 2019.
Regarding what Grant and Martin have said, i agree whole heartedly, we have hundreds of TV channels, the internet, music and video games to keep us occupied IN our homes, we aren't being bombed and this should be all wrapped up by November, so the moaners need to stop bitching, stick to the rules and be grateful it's not going to drag on for 5 years.

"Stay Local".
All very well, but she tried to duck any serous questions from top journalists.
I can follow the science. Keep socially distanced. Wear a facemask in closed spaces and don't linger in them. Wash your hands and don't touch your face.
But most of "The Rules" are just not understood.
Why can you only go out once a day for a walk in the park? How does that help? And what is this nonsense about carrying a hot drink?
Why can't you jump in the car and go anywhere? You aren't going to infect anyone in your car.
Why didn't the government post everyone a facemask and a leaflet about high risk activity to avoid?
Why didn't the government print posters about shopping rules, instead of shop staff fighting a losing battle with idiots?

The public seem to be obsessed with knowing exactly what the govt's guidelines will allow. We all know by now what we can do to minimise risk. The "guidelines" should be seen as a bare minimum, not a boundary that needs to be pushed.
And just because we can, doesn't mean we should.

Yes. If you asked a bright child what actions to take to avoid an infectious disease they would be able to tell you without any problem. But some adults need it all spelled out for them? Really?

Quit agree Geoff,
This is why in Russia, they are vacinating those between 18, and 60, common sense if you want to preserve, and keep your economy going!
Whilst it's good to vaccinate the vulnerable, I keep thinking the nation's return to something resembling 'normal', might be quicker if the groups that mix with others most were vaccinated first.
A large-scale trial of a new treatment it is hoped will help stop Covid-19 patients from developing severe illness has begun in the UK.
The first patient received the treatment at Hull Royal Infirmary on Tuesday afternoon.
It involves inhaling a protein called interferon beta which the body produces when it gets a viral infection.
The hope is it will stimulate the immune system, priming cells to be ready to fight off viruses.
Early findings suggested the treatment cut the odds of a Covid-19 patient in hospital developing severe disease - such as requiring ventilation - by almost 80%.
It was developed at Southampton University Hospital and is being produced by the Southampton-based biotech company, Synairgen.
A course of treatment with the new drug could cost around £2,000, which is not that expensive for a hospital treatment.

Precisely.
It should be in this order in my opinion...
1. Workforce between 18 and 65 years of age
2. Uni and college students 16 and over
3. Children up to 16 years of age
4. The retired and vulnerable
That way we get the economy back on its feet faster, then the kids back to school and college/uni after the parents have been vaccinated, then lastly those whom mostly spend time at home and/or don't do anything to contribute to the economy (as a whole).
The government's got it completely backwards as usual.

We know from the stats that anyone with an underlying illness be it chronic lung, heart or diabetes etc, is far more likely to be severely affected by this Strain or infact any past strain of Corona virus, therefore; it should have been a priority in this country of getting people in those catagories onto some kind of vitamin and supliment program, they would or should have been advised by the health board that this would have been a useful tool in combating the amount of people with severe health conditions being at a greater risk from corona virus.

While inoculating people that are most likely to come in to contact with others is a good idea, the inoculation doesn't stop the virus from being spread only from you catching it, in my opinion NHS staff should be 1st on the list as without these people our healthcare would grind to a halt, as i've said it doesn't stop them spreading it if they come into contact with it but at least they won't end up off sick or even worst dead, after that inoculate on most likely to die if they catch it and so on.
Precisely.

Yeah, can you imagine the reaction in the country putting old folk at the back of the queue. Brave Government to do that.
i think old folk have contributed plenty to the country. that order and attitude is fairly odd, and i doubt many would agree. you always vaccinate your most at risk of serious disease first. irrellevent of how much they currently put into the kitty.
he could and maybe he has done that previously. But he can't do the same thing every day. I get that, but the point is, in a city the size of London, he doesn't *have* to travel for 7 miles, in order to find somewhere different to cycle everyday!
There must be an innumerable amount of suitable places where he could do that within close proximity to Downing St, and which with lockdown would be much quieter than usual, enabling ample social distancing, etc, and where he would be just as safe as the park where he cycled 7 miles to!
As usual, and as has happened throughout this pandemic (with the Cummings fiasco, etc), his behaviour smacks of hypocrisy and double-standards: one rule for 'the elite', and another for 'the plebs'
Members of the government, and especially the PM, should be setting exemplary examples to the rest of the nation (and displaying impeccable standards of behaviour, by following the rules to the letter), but some, including BJ Buffoon-Boy, seem to think that they're above them!
Therefore, how can you expect others ['the plebs] to take a blind bit of notice of the rules, or worse how can the government criticise or lambast them when they break them (especially when many are so ambiguous), or preach to others how the rules should be followed, when they're just doing what the hell they like??
They need to get it into their thick heads, Buffoon-Boy, especially, that the LAW (and rules set for behaviour during this pandemic) *applies as much to them* (and the power-hungry authoritarian police bullies) as anyone else!!
Marco.
I get that, but the point is, in a city the size of London, he doesn't *have* to travel for 7 miles in order to find somewhere different to cycle everyday!
There must be an innumerable amount of suitable places where he could do that within close proximity to Downing St, and which with lockdown would be much quieter than usual, enabling ample social distancing, etc, and where he would be just as safe as the park where he cycled 7 miles to!
As usual, and as has been the case throughout this pandemic (with the Cummings fiasco, etc), it's a case of hypocrisy and double-standards: one rule for the 'special ones' and another for 'the plebs'
Members of the government, and especially the PM, should be setting good examples to the rest of the nation (and exemplary standards of behaviour, by following the rules to the letter), but some including BJ Buffoon-Boy seem to think that they're above them, so how can you expect others ['the plebs] to take a blind bit of notice of the rules, or worse how can the government criticise them, when they break the rules (especially when many are so ambiguous), or preach to others how the rules should be followed, when they're doing what the hell they like??
Marco.
How do you know he hasn't been using places nearby as well? Just because it hasn't been reported because there was nothing out of the ordinary to report?
It's just another total non-story. Seems to me that critics of Johnson must be desperate if this is the best they can do. I notice that they've been somewhat put out by the EU trade deal too. 'The EU won't let us have our cake and eat it!' Wrong again.

Yeah, can you imagine the reaction in the country putting old folk at the back of the queue. Brave Government to do that.
It’s a big problem when the majority of the nation don’t understand simple economics. Sadly most seem to believe that infinite money grows on trees.
How do you know he hasn't been using places nearby as well? Just because it hasn't been reported because there was nothing out of the ordinary to report?
Sure, but that doesn't negate his breaking of the rules (or not being true to the spirit of them, if you prefer, as he's asking of others) by going 7 miles to take some exercise. If he's also been using places nearby, then he should be sticking to those, and like a good boy, keeping his arse nearer home!
The fact is, there are TONS of suitable places locally that he could use, and which there's no way he would've exhausted yet, so there is simply NO excuse for going anywhere else. He needs to heed his own words: STAY AT HOME!!! Simples.
It's not a non-story if you abhor hypocrisy and double standards, or 'elites' lording it over their 'minions' (count me in), as those two girls who were disgracefully treated in such an unnecessary and appallingly heavy-handed manner, by bullies posing as Police, were utterly lambasted for essentially doing the same...!
So, fair's fair, HE should've been similarly lambasted - even MORE SO - as he should've known better and be setting a flawless example to the nation of how to behave!!

I agree mate, and it's a situation that simply isn't tenable, but one of the government's (ANY government's) primary objectives in a pandemic is, first and foremost, to protect the vulnerable (and NHS), so I fully support that, and that they should also be the first to be vaccinated.
What should've happened is that the elderly and vulnerable should've been *completely isolated* from day one of knowing how easily this virus spreads and how potentially deadly it is, and been kept there until this whole thing was over/vaccine was available, then (as far as possible) allowed the 'workers', those keeping the economy going, to do that, but in a *strictly controlled manner* (with strictly enforced mask wearing, hand-cleansing, social distancing, etc), rather than not dealing with the situation properly [in reality making a total arse of it] and forcing the necessity for umpteen (largely unsuccessful) lockdowns, subsequently sending the country into a financial crisis/recession, which it will take YEARS to recover from.
However, I don't think you can say (in fact to some it may be rather insulting) that the elderly or vulnerable don't really contribute to the running of the country or the economy... They certainly did in the past when most of them were working from very young until retiral age, and putting BILLIONS of pounds into the economy in the process, or even more so, those who fought in the war to give you and I the freedom we currently enjoy.... I think that they certainly 'contributed';)
No offence mate, but just thought I'd introduce a little more balance to your argument, in case anyone should think of you as ageist or uncaring, as I know you're not like that:)

No offence taken, it’s a thread for conversation and debate - and I know what you mean regarding the retired and elderly. They have contributed and deserve the treatment they need without exception.
But, in the short term, vaccinating the workforce first would improve the economy faster than leaving them until last. Simple as. It would enable those whom normally work to return to doing so quicker.
Obviously all those who want a vaccine should be able to get them, and as soon as poss, regardless of their current contribution to the economy. Not to sideline anyone of course, but it makes economical sense.
Cool, Didn't think there would be:)
We're largely on the same page, apart from this:
But, in the short term, vaccinating the workforce first would improve the economy faster than leaving them until last.
For the valid reasons you mention, I don't agree either with vaccinating 'the workforce' last (inverted commas used to indicate that such doesn't just consist of the 40s and under), but you MUST first prioritise the most vulnerable (elderly or otherwise), as quite simply they're most at risk from DYING, therefore the longer they have to wait to be vaccinated, the more likely they are of succumbing to that fate.
What they should do, is regardless of age, get the most vulnerable vaccinated first (for reasons stated above), so that includes younger folks with any illnesses or underlying conditions, and for whom Covid is liable to provoke a serious reaction, then 'the workforce', with all age groups therein represented, and lastly everyone else, such as the healthy unemployed or long-term ill or disabled, who are unable to work (but not at most critical risk from Covid), and anyone else who's fit and healthy but not responsible for 'driving' the economy.
Prioritising by age is badly judged, ineffective and also unfair. But as usual, it's far easier using a sledgehammer to crack a walnut, than something more appropriate, which unfortunately requires more effort.

I find the comments from the “vaccine” manufacturers and the Government very disturbing.
So, the above do not know IF the vaccine stops infection, has any long term side effects, or has any effect really, “long vaccine” has yet to be experienced!
Unless I’m mistaken nothings going to change after mass vaccination, still wear a mask, social distancing, stay at home and save the NHS. Consecutive governments have starved the NHS of investment and modernisation, wasting money on management layers (Primary Care Trusts have 6 management layers) and purchasing ineptitude. We have to “save the NHS” from the folly of Government’s decades of the utmost stupidity.
Winter always brings unbearable loads on hospital capacity, ignored for years.
IMHO what we’re hearing is so much crap! There’s trouble afoot soon!
Gary
Just touching again on what I wrote above... Here's the thing, and taking myself as an example:
Why should a [to all intents and purposes] retired, fit and healthy 55 year-old, living off his savings and investments, who suffers from no underlying health conditions (other than terminal daftness:D), with a strong immune system, and who in lockdown has nowhere to spend his money, thus currently isn't contributing in a useful way to the economy, be offered a vaccination before, say, a less healthy 30 year-old, with a weaker immune system (partly due to years of poor diet), and who's often ill and arguably more at risk from dying from Covid (but isn't medically classified as one of the most vulnerable) - or say, a fit and healthy 22 year-old with a big mortgage and an expensive leased company car, who's just started his own business, employing a number of other people, which despite the current situation is thriving, and thus who currently is contributing very significantly to the economy?
That doesn't make any sense - and there are countless thousands of similar examples of the government displaying such an economic use of neurones...
Prioritising by age, with the vaccine rollout, is not only dangerous, but represents grossly simplistic thinking from the 'powers that be', who largely don't have a clue, or are simply following the path that requires the least amount of thought or effort, and with potentially fatal consequences for both people's lives and the economy.
The whole thing drastically needs a rethink!!
Marco.

Not only that, the key thing is they don't yet know either if any of the vaccines, once providing whatever levels of immunity they're purported to have, succeed in *preventing you from subsequently becoming an asymptomatic carrier*...!!
Therefore, you have a potential situation for the millions of people who've so far been vaccinated (and arguably safe themselves now from Covid) still being able to transmit it to others! So what use is that? How does that quickly eradicate the spread of the virus and get us out of this mess and back to some semblance of normality??
Your other points are spot on, btw.

Interesting thoughts there Marco . My mother in law was at Oswestry for her jab yesterday , my Ma on Thurs at Oswestry too, and my other half did mention about the possibility of them being able to potentially spread covid to someone else by actually being asymptomatic for a short while !!??
Its possible ,as a vaccine is a small dose of the virus irradiated IIRC that produces a reaction in your immune system .
A paramedic mate of mine was talking about ffeeling rough for a day after his second dose ,and his paramedic mates told him thats not unusual !!

Indeed, and in terms of the above in bold, not only for a short while, but for as long as any immunity lasts, which as far as the 'success' of the vaccine is concerned, will hopefully be a long time, but yet during that time, you could still potentially be a carrier!
It's quite simple: after vaccination you'll be display no symptoms of Covid for as long as you're immune, but if they can't guarantee that during that time you still won't be a carrier of the virus, and able to infect others, then aside from potentially protecting yourself, what incentive is there to be vaccinated?

Listening to the latest this morning; anyone who as had the virus has imunity for around 5 months, but can still be a carrier, same as anyone who has had the vaccine, now my question is, if this is true, then how long does the vaccine work for, and how long will it last, if its going to be around the same amount of time as your own immune system, does that mean that a vaccine will be needed every six months ?
Surely your own immune should be more affective at protecting you than any vaccine, especialy an unknown version that suposedly promotes your own body to create something that your immune system is then meant to attack, help me out here folks as i feel like i am in the twilite zone lately!!!

We are no wiser or better off than we were a year ago when the Coronavirus started out here.
All I see, is that the vaccines may only work for about 90% of recipients and immunity wears off. Those vaccinated don't know if it worked as there's no test to find out, so you could be still at risk. Maybe only 75% will agree to be vaccinated anyway, so there'll still be millions potentially spreading disease.
We don't know if the virus will mutate beyond the four or five strains identified so far or if the vaccines will treat new strains effectively or whether further mutations will be more or less deadly.

The jab contains proteins that are a signature of the virus. We currently have no natural immunity because we've never had it before. Immunity can develop but it can take time, several weeks for some, many days for most, a few days for the young. The virus reproduces in the body in that time and is transmitted through aerosols in breath. The longer the immune system takes to ramp up the longer the virus can spread from the infected individual to others.
Second infections are more likely to encounter an immune system that recognises the threat and ramp up antibodies faster. This is the hope, but that is all it is at this point.
The jab aims to potentiate the immune system so that on first infection it behaves more like our body is suffering a re-infection. The nearer that event is in time to the date of the original infection/jab the stronger the antibody response will be (after a two or three week initial time for the immune system to gear up) . Immune response may fade, but like flu we will get adapted to the threat and it will ameliorate. Frankly that's as good as it gets for now.

My understanding is the vaccine contains mRNA (messenger ribonucleic acid) which causes the body's cells to produce a harmless protein mimicking that on the covid 19 virus and hence triggers an immune response. The 5 month immunity is actually at least 5 months as that is as far back as the study goes.

Cheers James,
However, i would like to add; many of us i suspect encountered the original SARS virus that apparently is very closely related to this, surely our immune system should therefore remember, and identify some of the similarities in this strain, therefore will know it needs to be destroyed ?

More strongly advises Vitamin D and Zinc and keeping the window open for fresh air.
Personally I have always slept with the windows open. My Arthur Mee's Children's Encyclopedia always advised that sleeping with the windows shut was "POSITIVELY UNHEALTHY".
I have had huge arguments with GFs over the years on this issue. But Arthur Mee is somebody I always listened to. I believe my sister still has his 10 volume books.
I am more dubious about Vitamin D, after recent experiments with foul Cod Liver Oil. But my sister is also keen on Zinc, of which deficiency causes white spots under your nails. Who knows?
When I was teaching, I was always getting colds. So several years ago I started having a Vitamin C and Zinc drink every morning.
It may be coincidence/psychosomatic, but I had far fewer colds once I started doing this.
I started having a vitamin D tablet every morning last winter, just to make up for lack of sunlight, but I haven't noticed any difference yet. I may well be getting enough vitamin D in my diet in winter anyway through my love of soft boiled eggs :)

What do looks and dress have to do with believability?
Healthy diet always helps our immune systems, vitamin deficiency lowers our defences!

Anyway, back on virus related issues.
There is a program on TV at the moment about the natural history museum, it is reminding me how much I miss the freedom of going to Londondon for the day - Natural history museum, V&A, Spitalfields market, few pints of Porter in a London pub (Jerusalem Tavern is nice :https://www.stpetersbrewery.co.uk/london-pub)

Always takes somebody outside London to tell em whats in London !. The Tavern that is not the history museum ( even I know thats there ) lol
My wife's great grandfather ran the Jerusalem Tavern (although it was in a different building around the corner when he lived/worked there - St Peters web site isn't too clear/correct on the details of the history of the pub!).
Quite poignant, it was the last place I had a beer with my father in law (a few months before he passed on), he was so pleased to tell me about his family history over a pint or two.

With vaccines rolling out, there is a risk that society seeks to pick-up from before the pandemic took hold. However, it is obvious the world cannot move forward by returning to the pre-pandemic status quo. If we are to emerge strongly from COVID-19 and tackle greater challenges, such as climate change, then not only do we need to continue the digital evolution, but we need to accelerate it with 5G at the forefront.

There’s a few, one current, ie the profusion of surveillance cameras with facial recognition aligned to 5G, it’s not a complex option, in the future who knows, technology in this area could be advanced. I’m not going to be lead into any other maybes, they are detailed in one of my links in earlier posts.
Who would have thought a short while ago that we could be in lockdown with a massive effect on our personal lives, back in early 2020 we were lead to believe lockdown would be a couple of weeks.
Gary
I'd imagine it would be difficult to be tracked if you don't carry any 'smart devices' facilitating such, or drive an electric car, or own anything else that potentially connects you to 'the grid', via 5G or otherwise - oh and have no intention of taking any (arguably) 'dodgy vaccines', with goodness knows what in them;)

Ha - we've been here before. You do what you can to MINIMISE it as far as possible. In today's world, it's impossible to eliminate such completely.
Undoubtedly though, the ones most susceptible to being tracked (if or when that technology, which already exists in limited form, becomes abused for nefarious reasons), are all the idiot 'tech junkies' - you know the geeks who simply CANNOT LIVE without owning the latest 'must have' gadget, and which is usually some sort of 'smart' device, and not only have it all around their homes, but carry it about with them, too!
And have crucially integrated/structured their lives around said tech (in some cases their livelihoods are dependant on it), so would be very difficult to live without. In that respect, the gullible 'sheeple' are essentially FUCKED...:acid:

Ah, I get what you mean now, sure... Although I can't see it happening to that degree in our lifetime.
As long as we have 'people power', and the people aren't scared to rebel against injustice (as has been shown with the recent riots in America, which I'm not saying I'm condoning, btw, but the point is that if they care enough, people will REBEL against something that they consider is unjust or wrong,), and the lockdown protests here and elsewhere, which at times got nasty, then such fascist regimes won't 'stick'.
*BUT*, if necessary, we MUST not be scared to take to the streets and seek to defeat the 'powers that be', and FIGHT for our freedoms, should that ever be necessary - and while we still can!
Marco.
You can take to the streets if you want, I'll be sat in the warm watching Wheeler Dealers with a can on the go.

Aye, if they haven't cut off your leccy for non-compliance to some fascist new rule involving the right for them to spy on you!;)
Marco.
They can't cut my leccy off without getting into the house - I'm not on a smart meter and it can't be done from the street. They've tried before and in the end they had to shut down the grid for the whole area.
Of course if you're on a smart meter they can just press a button at head office and that's it.
they'd have to dig up street for me too.;)
They can't cut my leccy off without getting into the house..
Totally agree with the smart meter, which is why this year we'll be looking into installing solar panels, as it's another step towards our goal of becoming as self-sufficient as possible:)
As for getting into the house, they could if a new rule is made authorising the authorities to gain entry to anyone's home who refuses to be spied upon/non-compliance to new laws around surveillance, justified by Covid.

There is already legal provision in place for many years for forcing entry for a variety of things, they can force entry to cut off your leccy once they get a Court Order. The only thing they can't cut off is water - unless you are a business.
They have no interest in instituting surveillance over everyone 24/7 - there's absolutely nothing to be gained for them from doing that.
I've asked on this thread multiple times now for someone to explain the point of that to me and each time the question has been ignored.
Is it just that some people like to entertain themselves with the thought that Big Brother is out to get them? Does it make them feel worthwhile and important? I don't know. It's clearly psychological though.
Hi mate,
Just bear in mind that current legislation for residential in many areas only allows solar panel systems up to 4 kilowatt, which is fine for your usual low draw stuff, ie; TV, HI-FI, Lights etc, etc, however, don't expect to be able to run high curerent Apliances, ie, some tumble dryers, some washing machines, your shower, or imersion heater etc, still, its a good start.:)
That's mainly what it would be for, and we're thinking of going for one of the new underground installs:)
As for high current stuff, we have a (water mains) powered shower, not an electric one, plus a big Belfast sink and an old-fashioned 'pulley drier' in the kitchen, to replace the washing machine (never had a tumble drier in this house. Because it's just the two of us, the pulley and leaving clothes on a rack beside the fire have sufficed, or hanging clothes outside on the line to dry during the summer), if the bastards cut us off:D
Plus the wood-burning stove supplies our heating (plenty for our needs) and can also be used as a cooker lol, as when it's been on for a few hours, the heat on the top plate is as hot, or hotter, than any gas or electric cooker. Plus, we've got a thriving veg and potato patch in our (large) garden, which will be further developed in the spring. And we'll be getting some chickens, and a run, so we'll never starve!
Awesome... Life just like it was in the old days, or in the TV sitcom 'The Good Life'
Seriously though, we're the types who could make that work.
Marco.
Martin, wealthy and power-hungry dictators (continually seeking to be ever more wealthy and powerful), who've ruled and oppressed their people, have existed for centuries, and continue to exist now. The only difference is (at least so far), in modern times, it's mostly been keep under the radar, but that could be about to change!;)

Btw, another type of smart technology that could easily be abused to further the interests of 'the powers that be' (should that ever happen) is Ring:

Same goes for 'Smart watches' and 'Fitbits', which monitor aspects of your physical and biological functions. Too many folks are suckers for that pish, and they're ripe for abuse and facilitating surveillance or control.

A further 1,820 people have died in the UK within 28 days of a positive Covid test - the most reported in a single day since the pandemic began.
It means the total number of deaths by that measure is now 93,290.
There were also a further 38,905 cases, with 3,887 more patients admitted into hospital.
A total of 4,609,740 people have now received the first dose of a vaccine,

People who get sick and recover from Covid-19 produce a ton of these more-specialized IgA antibodies. Because IgA antibodies occupy the same respiratory tract surfaces involved in transmitting SARS-CoV-2, we could reasonably expect that people who recover from Covid-19 aren’t spreading the virus any more. (Granted, this may also depend on how much of the virus that person was exposed to.)
Frustratingly, it’s just going to take more time to see if people who got the vaccine are involved in future transmission events. That’s why it’s vital that even after receiving both doses of the Covid-19 vaccine, all individuals wear masks, practice physical distancing, and wash their hands when around those who haven’t been vaccinated—just in case.

it may be intended, or said to be intended for use v the likes of terrorism, but could easily say, be used to infiltrate the labour party/snp etc and call it whatever.. no judge to say aye/nae, and of course no comeback
No they do that anyway. What this allows them to do is commit crimes in order to preserve their cover when infiltrating criminal gangs or terrorist groups. Which they do already ofc but this protects them from prosecution for it.
You need rocks in your head to do that job - as the bloke says in Reservoir Dogs - so I'd guess they are having trouble getting volunteers without this legislation in place.

yes but in this country you needed a judge to sign it off first legally.
BRAVO, mate. Get it RIGHT up 'em!!:exactly: Fukkin Tory scum.
But you can see how things are going, in terms of becoming ever more draconian, can't you?
Marco.
Bit over the top there Marco - Labour leadership have abstained on key votes and Starmer seems to be saying that if he were in power he would do similar:scratch:

to sign what off?
not so sure i think they were told to abstain but i believe they voted with snp and greens
to sign what off?
the legality of breaking laws while on covert ops. the case before it starts, technichally needs to go in front of a judge who will sign off certain illegalites of the job he is doing.. murder wont be included of course. that is current law or was...

We are all in this together, whether we like it or not, eventualy even those who think none of what's going on at the moment will have any affect on them, whether because they think they are safe in the little bubble they have created for themselves, or they just don't care, will i am sure have a rude awakening at some point, until then, keep ignoring things and let all the others worry about it, cos its not your problem, great attitude.

Well said Anthony.
It's in all of our best interests to do everything possible to prevent the spread. Accept and adapt.
Many people in their lives will have to do that in other regards (like when I went to work as normal and found I'd suddenly been laid off from a £1,400 per week job), it's part of life. And frankly, wearing a mask in a shop is no big thing, nor is staying at home as much as possible and contacting friends via other methods.
It's hardly like being drafted and sent all over the world to fight with guns.

That's assuming that there is anything 'going on' which there almost certainly isn't.
And even if there was there wouldn't be anything you or anyone else could do about it anyway. Worrying about it certainly won't achieve anything. If I wanted to worry about stuff I could find plenty of more immediate concerns.
When I was at University 30 years ago there were some people who were practically hysterical about Bush's 'New World Order' and how we were going to become a police state. Or climate change and how the planet would be inhabitable in a decade if nothing was done. None of it ever happened.
More recently it was Trump becoming President and how it would be world war 3 or some equally absurd fantasy. And here we are 4 years later, and again nothing happened.
When I was a youth you would still see those old blokes wandering the town with their placards 'The End Of The World Is Nigh' - fifty years on and we're still waiting for that to happen too.
And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin.” (Matthew 6:28)

I remember the local paper in Southampton assuring us in the mid 1980s that , by the year 2000, there would be olive groves and lemon trees all over the South Downs and that the Isle of Wight would be completely submerged due to global warming. Neither has happened.
Which is actually a shame on both counts... ;)

I largely agree with the former, but if it came about, strongly disagree with the latter. I don't need to tell you that there are numerous historical examples of the power of the people defeating dictatorships and triumphing over oppression, and that will be the case again, if it should ever happen.
Just remember, there are far more of us than there are of them! Even excluding the apathetic or lazy, and scaredy-cats who don't have the belly to fight for their freedoms;)

I've told you before mate, that's not how it works. You don't go from one minute living in a free country, to waking up in a police state! If that were to become the reality, it would be accomplished by those responsible in cumulative BABY STEPS.
So who's to say that behind the scenes many of said steps haven't already been successfully taken (covertly building an infrastructure), with some of the effects of that covered up or blamed on other things, so that when everything *is* in place, the BIG step can be taken, as there's no longer any need for those responsible to hide?
Very unlikely I know, but just sayin!:D
However, did you honestly think that in the UK we'd ever have a situation where we've all spent the best part of the last 12 months under virtual house arrest?
Marco.

I know you have said in previous posts that we would as a nation "take to the streets", in fact I may have read that you would be leading the charge, so I was wondering just which "baby step" might prove to be the tipping point? And what our revolt might look like?
I assume the good fight would take place in the capital. That's 200+ miles. Any chance of a lift? I assume you'd be going in the Brabster, which will carry way more petrol bombs than if we went on the bus :) Or will you be organising a coach trip? What if the revolt clashes with The Great British Bake off? Do you have Sky+? These are all questions that need addressing ;)

Entertaining briefing from Boris, Prof. Chris Whitty and Sir. Patrick tonight.
Vaccines remain our best bet for a living future.
I was out and about last night. Fancied some exercise and stargazing at 10 PM.
On my way back saw 6 youths in a group off together. Can't believe they were 5 brothers with one person in the "support bubble".
As I understand it, you only hang around with one significant other outside.
I was tempted to take these idiots on. But, Hell, it's all about self-preservation now. 6-1 ain't good odds. Let them go home and infect Mommy and Daddy.

A huge fire broke out at India’s Serum Institute plant where they are making the Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine. They’re the largest vaccine manufacturer in the world. Five people died and the plant building has been destroyed.
What did our government say about it? “Global output of the vaccine will not be affected”.
Ummm, yes it will. Morons. Just a stupid comment.

The sad fact is there are too many people of lower intelligence in this country like the 400 (actually more like 100) who had a wedding reception the other day and the hotel in harrogate that had a new years eve party.
As long as that sort of behaviour goes on we will be in this situation for many many more months to come.

Most definitely. Viruses are oddly particular when it comes to hosts, and proximity doesn’t guarantee infection. When I had pneumonia five years back, the rest of the household were completely untouched.

It's a bacterial infection though not a virus so not as easy to transmit as something like Covid.

It’s actually either; bacterial or viral - different strains. Kills over 4,000,000 a year worldwide, so definitely does more damage than COVID.
A common misconception is that it’s caused by getting cold. Don’t know why, ambient temperature has nothing to do with it.
