A bit like world governments at the moment then ?

Yes. Since the beginning of time, anyone who has power, will make your life a misery to some extent.

And btw, there's no chance of life totally returning to normal anytime soon, even with a 'vaccine'.

An excellent article, Anthony, which should provide any intelligent, openminded (and hopefully still free-thinking) person with a much-needed antidote to the current government brainwashing and propaganda, with regards to this 'pandemic'!

I like these bits, which I consider as particularly pertinent:

This is why all the COVID propaganda has conveniently glossed over the fact that there are no electron microscope images of SARS-CoV-2, since the electron microscope is an extremely important tool in the 1st step of Koch’s postulates, the identification.

If true, that is most interesting indeed...

The virus misconception has been with us a long time. As insane as the current fear-based, mask-wearing, social-distancing submission is, there are those people who are using Operation Coronavirus as a chance to wake up. While some go deeper into unconsciousness and look to new protective products (“upgrade your mask for our patent-pending powered air-filtration protective shield (N95)”), others have seen the coronavirus coup for what it truly is: a chance to roll out all kinds of control architecture while people sleepwalk in fear. It is always a good idea to question the base assumptions of any governmental pronouncement, because almost always, it can open up a portal that leads to the truth.

Hear, hear!

The last bit has ALWAYS been my mantra. Too many folks simply just swallow and obey what the government says, instead of, if necessary, CHALLENGING and QUESTIONING it! That's the *only* way to discover the REAL truth, rather than the 'truth" that the 'powers that be' want you to believe instead...

And the most balanced arguments I've seen to date, outlining the pros and cons of mask wearing: https://theinfectiousmyth.com/coronavirus/Masks.php?fbclid=IwAR38HTMOH1GS6jlWz8c-m_pFHlUPMIFClsoiTleXp1wLI5J75k419lKVEns

This bit in particular is spot on, and I'd imagine the vast majority of the population will be guilty of:

“Dr Jenny Harries, a Deputy Chief Medical Officer from the UK, warns that because most members of the public use one mask for an extended period of time, when they take it off at home and put it on a non-sterile surface it becomes contaminated.

What tends to happen is people will have one mask. They won’t wear it all the time, they will take it off when they get home, they will put it down on a surface they haven’t cleaned. Or they will be out and they haven’t washed their hands, they will have a cup of coffee somewhere, they half hook it off, they wipe something over it. In fact, you can actually trap the virus in the mask and start breathing it in."

Exactly!

Arguments always end badly, nobody wins, but discussion between friends is good IMO. :)

Word on the Street is Cod Liver Oil (Vitamin D) and Mouthwash are good things against the germ.

No idea, but I am stocked up.

Must admit I am pretty careless with my facemask. Just keep it in my back pocket. Steams my glasses up to, which is a problem.

'Flu and Colds are something you can pick up off door handles, then touch your nose.

Covid seems to be less of a contact germ, but I don't know.

hifi_dave
17-11-2020, 14:41
Vitamin D appears to be approved by the NHS but I don't see how mouthwash will help if you have breathed the virus in. It's then in your lungs.

system7
17-11-2020, 14:47
Does no harm, does it. Since it's spread by droplets, a clean mouth might help.

I found this article about exercise interesting and something I take on board.

We are doing far less walking than we did last year:

https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2020/nov/06/covid-walking-20000-steps-a-day-changed-my-life?utm_source=pocket-newtab-global-en-GB

20,000 steps a day is quite a lot. About 10 miles if I haven't lost my touch. A walk in the morning and at night can't be bad. Especially since all the other exercise facilities are shut.

...but I don't see how mouthwash will help if you have breathed the virus in. It's then in your lungs.

I guess it's like washing your hands with soap and water or applying hand gel - in this case you're sterilising your mouth, and therefore whilst it remains in that state, germs [associated with the virus], potentially otherwise present in your mouth, from what you've been breathing in, won't have an adverse effect.

In that respect, as it's my belief that said germs also stick to your skin (face in particular, secreted by sweat glands), I'm now washing myself, particularly my face [as well as using mouthwash, brushing both my tongue and teeth], more regularly than usual.

You're on your own with the latter... But the rest is a valid point. However, that's not why discussions here about religion aren't welcome. It's simply because the respective views from both 'believers and non-believers' are usually way too entrenched to facilitate any meaningful discussion, and things can quickly turn personal.

No chance - there would be total anarchy, as the polls I've seen show that nearly half the population are anti having it - and vehemently so for good reason! I'd be at the helm of the people's revolt, trust me;)

Quite honestly, I'd shoot anyone who tried to FORCE such a vaccine on me, and take the consequences - I kid you not!! Nothing like that should EVER be made mandatory in a free, democratic country. Not only that, it's totally unethical, immoral and against one's human rights.

Especially in a futile attempt to 'eradicate' a virus that for the vast majority of the world's population will not be fatal. What next - mandatory euthanasia when, for heatlth and/or financial reasons, you've become too much of a burden on the state? Just stop and think for a moment what the authorities could impose upon us in future, if WE ALLOW them to make vaccines mandatory.....

Me thinks you need to calm down a bit, as you're blowing the situation vastly out of all proportion.

As for compliance towards rules [also subservience and acquiescence], there's been far too much already among the general public [largely because of incessant government and media fear mongering], and that's a big part of what's caused the situation were currently in, in terms of having created an increased control architecture, along with potentially greater ability for us to be spied upon or ruled by the state in future - something you unfortunately don't seem willing or able to grasp.

The Daily Mail? You're not seriously citing that useless rag as a source of any accuracy?:D

Most of the polls I've seen show around 40% of the population are against having it. In any case, for me the bigger the take up the better, as it'll keep the government happy and leave the rest of us to get on with it.

Possibly, but that would be a small price to pay, in my view (and also in future potentially waived if/when CV19 becomes no more dangerous than flu), in return for alleviating the risk from a potentially unsafe vaccine.

Fair enough... One that I seen where it was very close, marginally in favour of taking it, was on AOL, but that likely wasn't just based on the UK.

In any case, that's good news, as the deserving and justified most at risk from this virus *should* be taking the vaccine (if it's actually as effective as claimed), if catching it would almost certainly kill them (as if that applied to me, I'd be the same). And if the sheep make up the rest, then it'll keep the government's controlling behaviour at bay, as they'll be getting what they want, so the rest of us can carry on with our lives without being 'pressured' into playing along:)

IMO, such action could NEVER be justified, unless we truly did have a *properly deadly* virus that was threatening to completely wipe out the human race, and a genuinely effective vaccine was the only option to survive. I might consider it then;)

I never minded vaccines. Better than illness. I must have had Polio, Smallpox, MMR and Tetanus Jabs.

Too late on MMR I suspect. My brother lost the hearing in one ear to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Measles.

Nasty thing. We all caught mumps and the milder Rubella aka German Measles. Meningitis jabs were controversial recently, but Meningitis is a disgusting illness.

In terms of what exactly? And do you think they'd get away with anything as draconian as that in the UK, without mass protests and/or riots? I doubt it! People here like their freedom too much and don't like being bossed around. There have already been mass protests all over the UK, over lockdowns, never mind anything else.

From the same article.

Mark’s research reveals an ASMR of 4.6 per 100,000; somewhat less than the 16.6 per 100,000 reported by ONS.

The average percentage chance of Covid-19 mortality for the working population is 0.0046%. This is three and half times lower than the official ONS ASMR implies.

This strongly suggests that, of the 48,158 reported deaths "due" to Covid-19, the real number is closer to 13,759. A discrepancy of 34,399. A figure which has been mentioned before.

I have had two elderly people die of this germ in my social circle of about 100.

And have talked to Nurses who get very cross with people who doubt the danger of this germ.

But as Nietsche said: " The more you stare into the Abyss, the more it stares back at you."

I have quite a strong stomach for horror, so am giving it a go.

My own opinion is that the UK is being turned into a Totalitarian State.

It actually has never been all sweetness and roses.

The big picture is in the last link I gave. I recently left the defence industry, but was never in the inner circle.

But it all adds up. It may not even be the worst option. It's a mean World we live in.

Not after the virus *itself* dies out [although not the excuse it could still present 'the powers that be' to attempt enforcing more draconian rules], but as an entity of sufficient danger to the health or lives of the population]. It inevitably WILL die out (and soon, as it's been with us now for a year), and as other forms of coronavirus (such as MERS) eventually did within 2 years.

Therefore, one would assume that by then everyone who needed/wanted a vaccine will have had it, thus be considered as 'immune', and with new infections virtually non-existent, it ceases to be a problem.

And of course if the figures Anthony quoted earlier on mortality rates are true, then in reality there *IS* NO pandemic.....

The Public no longer trust them.

I just have to revert to the questionable isolation of COVID-19 virus?

“So basically, mainstream Chinese scientists who work under the same theory as mainstream Western scientists invented a new theoretical model for SARS-CoV-2, and proclaimed a novel coronavirus, but all without the electron micrographs to actually back it up.

Instead we are fed CGIs and told not to question authority. Is this science or is this faith-based Scientism?

Let's hope Russia doesn't become so insignificant that it threatens its stability, it borders a few Muslim states, and nuclear weapons in those maniacs hands could finish us all. Though from our viewpoint in the west we are missing how much the axis of power is drifting eastwards, it all could be out of our hands soon, as the Chinese expand territory, I read this week about a border dispute with India.

Wow, that's a crock of shit to deal with. I am not guaranteeing this, because it is all personally experimental, but losing weight extends life. I read this in the Atkins Diet book and lived on Nuts and Cottage Cheese for two weeks and lost two Stone in 3 months. So far so good. Backache gone. Move faster.

Really sorry to hear that, Alan. A lot of folks are the same, and if I could push a button for you to make it all go away, including the suffering you've had, I would.

To put things into perspective though, from my position, and why I'm reluctant to take a vaccine for this virus, which btw would apply to ANY such 'jab' involving pumping my body full of chemicals and stuff that isn't part of my biological makeup, even in normal times, my situation is (and has been) rather different from yours.

You're spot on about stress being today's No1 killer, and with how the world's going, that's only set to get worse. When I was self-employed running my own business full time, from 1996-2005, and my wife was on a fairly low wage then, and we had a considerable mortgage to pay (back then around £850 a month), as we lived in a fairly posh part of Glasgow, not to mention all the other outgoings, including a hefty level of Council Tax, the pressure on me to generate enough income every month to pay the bills and survive was immense, as I didn't have the security of a steady income.

And when it went badly, as businesses often do for periods of time, the stress was considerable, so much so that it nearly led to us losing the house because we were defaulting on mortgage payments, and also had accrued considerable debt on credit cards, mainly to 'fund' the business in lean times (the classic case of 'robbing Peter to pay Paul'), and with bailiffs calling at the door, etc. Life certainly wasn't a bed of roses.

However, I sorted things and eventually, with lots of hard graft and often working 7 days a week, including 'all nighters', I managed to build a very successful business, which is partly the reason I'm able to enjoy the lifestyle I have now. And I made a vow for things NEVER again to get that way, so made the decision to shift my focus onto what matters in life MOST: and that's NOT money, but TIME to spend with family and friends and do things *I* enjoy doing, not want someone else wants me to do, even if it meant less disposable income, and haven't looked back since!

So I know all about stress, as I suffered years of it trying to make ends meet, but there are different stresses on people now for a whole host of reasons, mostly technology related, so I'm very sympathetic towards those who are in that respect trapped in the modern 'rat race', with seemingly no way out. However, going back to vaccines and drugs/medicines in general...

Even though I've suffered from stress at key points in my life, I wasn't brought up with it and had a great childhood in every way, and consequently enjoyed a healthy diet from day one (as my mum was a great cook, and with our Italian culture, it was nearly always fresh produce we ate), have never smoked (the first puff I had of a 'fag' in secondary school, and the rancid taste, was enough to put me off for life), and have never drank to excess or taken any major drugs (apart from a few joints and some 'mushies' during me teenage years), and have always looked after myself physically and kept myself fit.

I've also been fortunate never to have had a any bad accidents that have compromised my health or mobility, or worked in any conditions that have had an adverse effect on my health, as being a salesman, most of the time I was indoors and not out in all weathers doing anything that was physically exerting - all of which has meant that since I was born I've never been used to being ill or being treated for this or that, or needing any forms of medication, and so all that stuff is alien to me. Consequently, I've managed to reach the age of 55, without suffering from any serious ailments (and TBH, feeling and looking at least 10 years younger), simply because of the lifestyle I'm fortunate to have had.

I'm not saying that to brag or feel smug (as that's NOT me); but simply telling it as it is... Therefore, that's largely why I'm just not predisposed (or used to) taking ANY form of medication whatsoever. As I said before, I even have to force myself to take paracetamol, on the odd occasion I get a headache! Therefore, I just don't like filling my body with chemicals of any description, as I've never needed to, so vaccines come under that category.

Let's face it, sadly the majority of people today are 'fucked', in terms of their overall health, due to having had a bad diet or suffered from an unhealthy lifestyle in some other way, or unfortunately had their health fatally damaged by serious illness/side effects of drugs, so taking a vaccine for Covid is therefore no big deal, simply because they've got nothing much to lose. Essentially, if your body is already 'fucked', then what difference will taking a largely untried vaccine make? Any risk attached to that is outweighed by the potential for the protection it could offer.

So I get that... But, can you also see how in my position the thinking is rather different, as potentially if it's not 100% safe, I'd have much more to lose... Therefore, that's why I'm anti the taking of this vaccine, or indeed any others, unless it was absolutely essential in order for me to survive, regardless of any 'conspiracy theories' attached to the current one and the situation we're all in with Covid-19.

Anyway, I just thought I'd outline my position in this matter, so I hope you can see where I'm coming from:cool:

Vaccines don't contain chemicals.

Usually they will comprise part of the pathogen (an antigen) accompanied by an adjuvant which makes the vaccine more effective. Usually some form of fat or sugar.

The worst case with a vaccine is that you get some of the symptoms of the pathogen, so might feel a bit off for a couple of days.

Yah, Marco. Much of what you do is right. But I've got to agree with Martin here.

There's a relevant saying about a self-made man which shall come to me eventually. They can judge things wrong.

But Vaccines have saved the world from much misery. Science is keeping us afloat.

It's not the first time we have encountered a germ:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Measles

Problem is this variant has come out of the blue. What the Stock Market calls a "Black Swan".

I'd have hated to live in the C15. Rotten Teeth. Erupting and pustulent skin. Plague. What about Leprosy?

We are actually quite lucky right now. I'd have probably been dead three times over but for Medical Science.

Whooping Cough, Tonsils and adenoids, and Appendicitis might have had me.

But you're still pumping stuff into your body that's alien to it and not meant to be there, chemicals or not, and that's the whole point. There are also potential long-term side effects. It's not unknown for vaccines to go wrong, so I neither want nor need to take that risk!:)

I understand that. But consider:
1) The vaccine will not do you any harm, you are, as you say, in good health and fitness.
2) it will prevent you from catching C-19. Although you are fit and healthy, fit and healthy people a lot younger than you have died from it because they copped a big dose. It's not impossible that you could also get a big dose of it and die.
3) By taking it you help other people, as it assists in herd immunity, So people who are not in good health and are at serious risk are less likely to catch it. Once herd immunity is established then the risk to them disappears.

It's always been my view that the strong have a duty to protect the weak. (This is probably due to watching John Wayne westerns as a young child). Therefore although I don't need to take the vaccine any more than you do I will have it when my turn comes round. If I feel a bit lousy for a couple of days I can live with that as I'll have done my bit.

I agree, and if I was convinced it was safe [which unfortunately I'm not], that would've been a big factor in me taking it.

But I'm also (as we've discussed recently elsewhere) a big believer in letting NATURE take its course, with the minimum necessary intervention from man, as sadly too often now we seem to be working AGAINST nature, rather than in harmony with it (something that irks me greatly), and therefore I believe that herd immunity will occur in time, naturally with this virus, without the need for vaccines.

I get that and agree. And if that's all that I thought could happen, then I'd do the same, but I simply don't trust those behind the current ones and therefore how safe, in terms of potential side effects, the vaccines will be both in the short, and most importantly, LONG term (something you don't seem to be considering), as I intend on being around for a LONG time yet!

A locum doctor said that to my mother once, regarding my recurring bouts of tonsillitis as a child. It was always the same strain of Streptococcus that was re-infecting me so that I was coming down with it every two to three weeks but, despite testing the whole family, they couldn't find out who it was that was the carrier.

It was only after I had my tonsils out that it was determined that I was actually re-infecting myself and that if they'd left my tonsils in, I would have died (I was 8 when I had them removed, and weighed 3 stone!!).

My point being - sometimes nature needs a helping hand.

I fully agree, hence why I said: "with the minimum necessary intervention" from man... Problem is, things have now gone much too far the other way, as a result of the 'greed for gold' of big pharma and those who control them, consequently much to the detriment, IMO, of the overall health of the population.

The fact is, if the human race as a whole had been healthier than it was to start with (and I think a big part of that otherwise being so is because of the drugs and chemicals our bodies have been pumped full of, over the course of our lives, some of which have come from the artificially processed/chemically injected, foods we eat), then the effects that this virus has had on the world's population wouldn't have been anywhere near as devastating - and nor would it have caused us so many problems, to date, on all sorts of different levels!

Well thank you. Tonsils are an apparently uneeded pair of strawberry like things at the back of your mouth. But why were they there in the first place?

I am a bit vague on Adenoids, but apparently, in my 5-y-o case, they had to go too.

Never missed them. Just had to eat Ice-Cream for a week after the Op. My throat hurt like Hell. And my Mother read me Enid Blyton Noddy (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Noddy_(character)) stories to keep my spirits up during recovery.

Marco. Think about it. If you let Nature take its course, you'd get eaten by a Lion or a Shark. Don't give me that rubbish.

If it wasn't for new discoveries and the advancement of medicines and medical techniques... I would guess that most of us wouldn't be here at all...One closed minded doctor could have been the death of you...which is not acceptable

Indeed, but you also have to consider QUALITY of life. not simply just 'being alive' and merely existing. I'm not referring here to the circumstances Adam was in, but simply to matters in general and also to the current situation.

Therefore, if for talking's sake, the choice were to come between being alive, but essentially a prisoner in your own home for goodness knows how long, out of fear of catching the virus (as even vaccines cannot provide immunity forever, or even close to it), and being controlled and ruled by the state, or dead and 'free', I'd chose the latter every time, as simply existing under those conditions would be NO life.

As I've said before, there's little point in being alive, if you can't LIVE and remain FREE! :exactly:

He still had his freedom though, didn't he? Albeit within the prevailing restrictions of the time. And the civilians at home, not fighting in the war, certainly had theirs.

They weren't tracked and traced to buggery or forced to wear masks [unless there was a gas attack]. Losing your freedom (especially when otherwise you enjoy a happy, rewarding and fulfilling life), for even a relatively short time, is hard to take, and the prospect of losing it forever, or it being significantly reduced in some way in future, even more so...

That's why being jailed for committing a crime is such a punishment, as depriving any human being of their FREEDOM is one of the worst things possible.

Also, with respect, it's easy for you to say 'have patience' when even before all this crap happened you never did much or went anywhere. You spent the vast majority of your time at home (quite different from Del and I), so it comes down to what kind of life you were used to before all this happened, in terms of how able you are to cope with the loss of freedom.

I dont think anyone here is questioning the medical advancements, and procedures man has acheived in respect to prolonging life in genral, for me personaly the road of discovery and wanting to find answers to dificult and complicted medical conditions started before all this paticular situation came about, without going into details, i have a young child that for reasons unknown to us at the time went from being perfectly healthy, to becoming very ill in a relatively short amount of time, the doctors, and specialists did what they could, but for a time were absolutely baffled by their own admision as to what was going on, feeling totaly helpless and overwhelmed by it all, i started doing my own research into her condition, which helped me understand when eventualy the real specialists got involved, and were able to explain to us what was happening, and what was needed to be done to stop it.
We will be forever thankfull and in debt to those that came through for us and saved our child.

Why have i mentioned this now ?
Because there are currently tens of thousands of doctors, physicians, and specialists in all manner of the medical and scientific world, who are trying desperately to get their voices heard, and tell us what is going on, but they are being scensored, banned, and worse by those who are hell bent on keeping us in fear, and total confusion, which is deviding families, putting neighbour against neighbour, friends against friends etc, etc, all for what end ?

If you really care about your own well being, your family, and those around you, then keep searching for the truth, its out there...

No, and of course I sympathise, but that's largely from choice, based on your level of risk assessment, given your health condition(s).

It's arguable, however, that you were just as much at risk from the virus when you attempted to go out that time to the shops, with your visor on, etc (and gave up because you couldn't breathe, which was a terrible situation to have been in), or any other time you've been out since, as you would have been from giving your daughter, son or grandson a cuddle... But that's your choice, and I respect that.

In terms of food during the war, I'm not sure it would've been that bad, based on what my dad has said, as my grandparents had their own garden and always grew much of their own produce, even back then, so whilst what they ate wasn't 'fancy' (far from it), it was invariably fresh and tasty home-cooked food. Italians will always skimp on or do without other things, WAY before they will their food!!

A healthy and nutritious diet is something, over generations, our family have always grown up on, which perhaps is why most of them have lived to a ripe old age! I guess you can't put a price on good genes:cool:

Sure, I accept that, but that doesn't dilute the value of the point I was making. I have a BIG problem with how large pharma have eroded our ability to benefit from what nature has to offer. In that respect, the Chinese have got it right and are probably a 100 years ahead of us, when it comes to natural remedies, and which have ZERO side-effects!

The fact is, if we truly knew all the benefits, medically and nutritionally, our trees and plants had to offer, then we'd be less reliant on drugs, to treat certain conditions, and likely far healthier on many levels - but of course there's no money in it for the large pharma, producing all the drugs!

And because of the huge influence they have now on medicine, I HATE how much they get to control the agenda... That's my point:)

Then you should have bought a DVD player built to western manufacturers specs right from the start...how many Chinese DVD players did you buy before you decided to buy a reliable one..you get what you pay for...even the very reliable player you bought will be 50% chinese components and probably more, you can't escape it....My home has British telecom telephones, have a guess where they were made....kettles, toasters, televisions, disc players, amplifiers, speakers, computers, mobile phones, electric ovens, fridge freezers and list goes on and on and on....Chinese components in there somewhere..and I'll say again..all cheap and to the most, very reliable. ....

You have been fortunate. My experience is somewhat different.

Made in the country of origin, using component parts made there; most of the items are old (30 to 45 years) and are still working well:

Audio

Turntables: Swiss or German
Pickup arms: Swiss, British or Japanese
Cartridges: American, Japanese, Danish or British
SUTs: Japanese
Phonostages: American, or British
Amplifiers: American, or British
CDP: American, or German
Tuners: British, or Danish
Reel to reel tape: British, or Swiss
Cassette machines: Japanese
Speakers: British
Cables: British, American, Swiss, German, or Japanese

Other items

Cameras and lenses: German
Fridge: British
Freezer: British
Cooker: British
Kettle: British
Coffee maker and grinder: German
Blender: Swiss
Iron: East German
Fountain pens: American and British
Shavers: German
Hairdryer: German
Power tools (drills, saws, sanders etc.): British and Dutch

Items not made in China but containing 'uncertain' components:

Car: German
TV: Japanese
DVD: Japanese (and cost not much more than the Chinese ones I had)
BluRay: Japanese
Mobile phone: Finnish

So far all are working well, but coming from reputable manufacturers I live in hope.

Stuff made in China for Western or Japanese companies. and presumably to their design and quality control (but some of it started to develop problems, usually after about a year and had be replaced)

Computer: American
Monitor: American
Printer: Japanese
Digital camera: Japanese
BT landline phone and hub
Microwave oven: Japanese

So, a mixture of experiences; but the main reason I try to avoid anything made in China (and I agree it is very, very difficult) is I don't want to do anything to support the Chinese Communist Party with their despicable treatment of the non Han minorities, their expansionist Belt and Road project, and their insidious controlling influence in Africa.

I happen to own a record called "Concert Classics Volume 2"

Anne Shelton sings in 1940 some terrifically cheerful songs about our (slim) chances of beating the Hun (The Nazis) in WW2.

The Fleet is in.
The Sailor with the navy blue eyes.
Frank and his Tank.

Awfully plummy voices at the BBC in those days. But we got through it. I hate revisiting the past. More interested in the future. But being interested in the present is really the best you can do. IMO.

It's hard to find understandable statistics about China and its 1,4Bn people, but it seems the average income is $12,000 which is well below, say, the UK.

We must be about $30,000, but a bit of a guess. 60% of people live in Urban areas. Income inequality is better than in most countries.

Regional variations are huge. The big cities have maybe 3X the incomes, but higher living costs.

When I visited China in 1987, there were very few private cars. Bicycles were ubiquitous and the majority of people wore Mao suits. Very few people had fridges, so you would see people shopping after work for fresh vegetables. At that time the salary ratio between the highest paid and the lowest was 5:1.

Now it's the other way round: cars have taken over the streets and most people wear western style clothes. The standard of living has improved enormously for most, but the ratio of wealth has sky rocketed. The average Chinese is quite happy with the new found prosperity and doesn't really care about suppression of basic human rights.

The Chinese have always regarded the State as paramount, and the individual as unimportant. They have a fairly callous approach to the individual: when I was there I visited one of the very few underground nuclear fallout shelters, and when asked why there weren't others, my guide replied that with population of the country being around 3 billion, they could easily 'afford' to lose a few tens of millions.

China also takes the long view - they think in centuries, whereas in the West we think in 5 to 10 year periods.

The majority of the population of China are Han. The Chinese communist party are 100% Han, and want to homogenise, if not eliminate, the culture of the Uighurs, Tibetan, Mongol and Khazakh minorities.

When I visited Xinjiang province, the Uighurs were left alone by the CCP, and were allowed to practice their religion, provided they kept a low profile. The kettle that's just boiled the water for my cup of tea, the toaster I've just used to make breakfast, the light bulb that is lighting the living room, the TV that is on behind me, need I go on?..Logitech, Hitachi, Dell, Morphy Richards, Russel Hobbs, Samsung, Sky, BT, Huawei, all made in China/ loaded with Chinese components...It's not the products that are the problem..It's the greedy fuckers who who we buy the products from in our own country..(the people who are exploiting the Chinese)..Is it the responsibilty of the ordinary Joe/Jane on the street for the welfare of Chinese workers...should we/they be made to feel guilty? How did Barry put it??.."The sad fact is most people want cheap goods and don't care about the consequences: slave labour; dangerous working conditions"

I would bet that 95% of people talking on a BT phone haven't got a clue, it was made in China..It's got British Telecom stamped all over it...It's got to be British...right?...

Okies, I get that... What I really meant was boycott it *as far as possible*, i.e. when you have the option of buying a particular product [whatever it may be] that isn't made in China [and you know that for a fact], then you make a conscious decision to buy that instead, even if it's more expensive (but usually also better) than a Chinese option.

That's certainly possible, and more often than you might think, if you genuinely care about QUALITY, and also not wanting to support slave labour. For example, you mentioned kettles and toasters... Our kettle (a Stellar) was designed in Bristol and made in Europe, and our toaster (a Dualit) is 100% British made.

Main household appliances? All Miele, which is German. And my espresso maker comes from Italy (Smeg). I could go on...

Of course a lot of this stuff will almost certainly contain Chinese-sourced components, but that's unavoidable, and certainly pretty much any mass-produced consumer electronics, such as you mention, will be made in China. However, none of my main hi-fi system is - all British or (vintage) Japanese. And my car is German.

Plus, I won't buy any clothes or shoes that are likely made in a 'sweat shop'. Before buying anything like that, I need to know where it comes from first!

The point being.... Whilst it is virtually unavoidable to COMPLETELY boycott Chinese goods, it CAN often be avoided, especially if you've a) got a conscience and abhor supporting slave labour, and b) when buying anything, your focus is always more on quality/eco-friendliness/sustainability, than simply price!

Yeah...I get where you are coming from Marco and that's fine if you have a decent income but, this day and age, the income of most of the UK's population is not that good. These cheap Chinese goods in question, are not cheap at all..and you can't seriously believe your all German car is all German...There are shit loads of Chinese made Merc parts coming into the UK by the container load..and where do you think your Levi's Jeans are made??..Nike trainers, Adidas trainers. Have you seen the price of them. Who's reaping the benefits. Not the Chinese that's for sure...95% of everything is made in China because of cheap labour..Cheap labour means extremely high profits. Once one company heads out that way..It's only a matter of time before other companies follow suit, lowering overheads to maximise profits..Not everyone can afford an Argyle sweater and Barbour coat. Hmmmm I wonder where they are made...

Indeed, but as I said, you avoid it *as much as possible*, and although my Mercedes may contain some non-German parts, it's still MADE in Germany. The same as my Miele induction hob, oven, etc, which likely will also contain some Chinese parts. You do what you can, mate.

And there are plenty of clothes and footwear, if you go to proper (often privately owned) menswear shops, not cheap High Street discounters, which sell products made in the UK/US or Europe. Yes, of course that stuff isn't cheap and may cost many times more than something that's mass-produced in a 'sweat shop', but (if looked after) will generally last ten times longer, so pays for itself in the end, especially things such as jackets, coats and footwear. Unless you're a hapless fashion victim!

However, my point is, *if* you can afford it [this doesn't apply to anyone else], then that is what you should be buying, instead of cheap tat. Problem is, too many folks who can afford it (and bearing in mind we live in a largely wealthy country, where people spend inordinate amounts of money, everyday, on ALL sorts of things), will often still buy cheap tat (Chinese or other), either through laziness and/or nonsensical 'tight-waddery', regardless or what or whom, somewhere down the line, may be suffering as a consequence!

Our next kettle, btw (once the Stellar goes pop) will be a Smeg, to match our espresso machine: https://www.smeguk.com/products/KLF04RDUK

Plus, with full spares available (unlike cheap, disposable Chinese tat), and as we look after our stuff, it should last us 'forever':)

...and you're gonna spend £160 on a kettle...?..You've clearly got too much money

How so? We've worked hard for our money and don't smoke, gamble or drink (to excess), so why not spend it instead on something nice, which is tangible, that we can enjoy everyday for years? Plus, as I've said, but again you've obviously not been paying attention - full spares are available, so it will last for YEARS. Unlike a lot of mass-produced, 'disposable tat'.

So... How much is £160, over say 10 years?;)

And besides, how much do chavs spend on booze, fags, drugs and scratch cards, Netflix and McDonalds, per annum? And they have feck all to show for it!!:D

I have never been "at home" when Jehovah Witnesses call. You can usually see them in advance when they target your road - they are always neatly dressed and will often have a child in tow.

I have never been "at home" when Jehovah Witnesses call. You can usually see them in advance when they target your road - they are always neatly dressed and will often have a child in tow.

Of course if you do want to have a vigorous debate with them, you need only declare you are of a certain religious faith.

The ones who call round here (a mother and her son) are fine [not 'rabid' JH's, by any means]. I often invite them in for tea and cake. They know I'm a practicing Catholic, with slightly different views from them, but as we all believe in God, and are Christians, we have plenty in common, so the experience is always pleasant and often educational:)

Its when religion becomes politicised that conflicts arise, personal faith is exactly that, the individuals faith. Political faith especially as written into a states constitution is thankfully a thing of the past in the West, though that is being tested by immigration on an epic scale from less enlightened parts of the world, and we are seeing the beginnings of that battle being fought at the moment in France.

Until she passed away a month or so ago, my mother had regular visits from two JWs - one was a former pupil of hers that she taught many years before. My mother believed in religion (although not the JW version) and she enjoyed the company and the discussions.

However, after she died, my sister came across a letter that the lady in question had sent her due to not being able to visit which was mostly a very pleasant 'newsy' letter, but contained a few sentences about how they knew Covid was coming, it was the devil in action and this was the end of days starting. My sister was absolutely furious and when she contacted the lady to let her know of my mother's passing she did politely explain that she did not feel stuff like this was the sort of thing you should be throwing at an 88 year old woman who was growing increasingly frail.

As an aside, my sister has a Degree in Theology and it was always interesting to listen to her chatting with JWs on the doorstep and offering her opinion as to why their interpretation of the council of Jerusalem was wrong. Funnily enough, they never stayed long... ;)

Hope I am not getting controversial here.

I have studied this Religion stuff often enough. Quite catholic (with a small c) in my tastes as it goes.

Greek mythology and the oracle at Delphi says "Know Thyself".

Christianity says "Render unto Caesar that which is his, Render unto God that which is his"

Krishnamurti says "What is observed, and who is the observer?"

My take on it these days is we have two halves in our higher brain. A rational side and an intuitive side. Left and Right. Below that is the hungry and aggressive reptilian hindbrain.

I can only tell you what I know, though I was quite the Wiz on Chemistry at school.

Sea Salt is very different stuff from Rock Salt. It has Potassium, Iodine and Magnesium in it. Rock Salt, which is in most factory foods is just Sodium Chloride.

Your body has about 10 grams of magnesium floating about. Apparently reduces blood pressure. If you have a heart attack, the quickest intervention is to inject about 2 grams of Magnesium Sulphate. So it does something.

I doubt there are 6 types of magnesium. I just take me Andrew's Liver salts every couple of weeks. French Doctors believe in minerals far more than English ones.

Another weird one is Selenium. Exhausted European Soils are very deficient in it. Brazil Nuts are full of it.

Yes, but that doesn't undermine or devalue the potentially 30-odd thousand deaths caused by flu, does it? Or is it only deaths from Covid that matter? That would appear to be the case.

So, here we have it... Flu kills 30,000 people, yet the country isn't brought to a standstill, in order to try and prevent the spread, or any kind of draconian rules enforced, in order to 'manage' matters.

Covid kills 53,000, and there's a MASSIVE HOO-HAH, with lockdowns, economic disaster and huge longterm debt/unemployment as a result, along with the mandatory wearing of face masks and all sorts, with life being threatened as never fully returning to normal.

So where's the justification for all of that, for an extra 20,000 deaths? And THAT, is *if* [and it's a big IF] you believe the published death stats for Covid are representative of people who's cause of death was SOLELY due to Covid, not some form of existing comorbidity..

In any case, I could see the need for all this hoo-hah, if we were talking of death figures in the many hundreds of thousands, but that simply isn't the case. Therefore, I stand by what I've always said, which is that whilst this is undoubtedly a serious and deadly virus, the HOO-HAH that's been created around it, simply isn't warranted, has been blown out of all proportion, and STINKS of an agenda!

Marco.

I'm all conspiracy theoried out. Most countries are taking a similar approach.

But the death toll reflects the lockdown measures. It would have been far worse.

Let's see. 660 cases in Pompey last week. This week it is 423. 6 more deaths, I think. Now 120.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-51768274

That's an improvement, but we were down to 10 cases around July. It's the students catching it. The lot over the road had it.

Marco
26-11-2020, 13:43
Yes, that's all fine if you believe the stats, and also the accuracy of the PCR tests. Others and I don't. And that's got nothing to do with 'conspiracy theories', simply the challenging of supposed truths.

So answer me this: if up to around 30,000 people die of flu every year, why haven't similar measures EVER been taken to 'tackle' that...?? Also, how many people have died as a result of suicide, due to lockdowns or other mental health issues, resulting from such/loss of jobs/financial stress, etc, and folks from cancer and other fatal diseases, which weren't treated in hospitals, due to Covid?

Where are the death stats for that?? :hmm:

And as for the 30,000 deaths annually from flu, could that figure be partly due to the existence of a vaccine? Similarly the 'mere' 50.000 or so Covid deaths (only 20,000 more!) could be due to the lockdown measures. Without that, maybe the death toll would be in the hundreds of thousands. I can't say for sure, nor can any other bugger on here. So until a vaccine comes online I'll (reluctantly) follow the guidelines, because there's nothing else to do :(

An alternative view [with some real facts thrown in] from a few of those many thousands mentioned;
Don't shoot the messenger! :)

Is it 100% Proven That Viruses Cause Disease in Humans?
Amazingly, no – it is not. Germ theory is just that: a theory. For those wanting a more technical explanation of this alternative understanding of viruses, check out Dr. Thomas Cowan, Dr. Andrew Kaufman and especially Dr. Stefan Lanka. Kaufman has given some recent interviews with Crrow777 and Richie from Boston where he elaborates upon the idea that viruses have never been proven to cause disease. Both Cowan and Kaufman discuss the tests that were done after the 1918 Spanish Flu (an outbreak which it turns out was caused by EMFs/electrification and/or vaccines) where they had sick people breathe into healthy people’s mouths. The healthy people didn’t get sick. Likewise, they had sick horses sneeze and cough mucus, fluids, droplets, etc. into a bag, put food in that bag, then gave that food to healthy horses. They were unable to make the healthy horses sick.
Dr. Stefan Lanka is the king in this area. He is a German biologist and virologist who came to understand we have been lied to on a grand scale regarding the nature of the virus. He offered a reward of €100,000 for anyone who could scientifically prove that measles was a virus. That case that went all the way to the German Supreme Court where he won. Paul Fassa reports:
“At first it appeared he had lost. But Dr. Lanka took his loss to a higher court with more experts and the backing of two independent laboratories. He wound up not having to pay. It turned out that the “proof” provided was a composite of several different electron microscope images. And the composite involved different components of damaged cells. The composite could not be duplicated. The German Federal Supreme Court confirmed that there was not enough evidence to prove the existence of the measles virus.”
“In a recent ruling, judges at the German Federal Supreme Court (BGH) confirmed that the measles virus does not exist. Furthermore, there is not a single scientific study in the world which could prove the existence of the virus in any scientific literature. This raises the question of what was actually injected into millions over the past few decades. Not a single scientist, immunologist, infectious disease specialist or medical doctor has ever been able to establish a scientific foundation, not only for the vaccination of measles but any vaccination for infants, pregnant women, the elderly and even many adult subgroups.”
Lanka has spoken out against similar viral epidemics or pandemics, such as the H5N1 bird flu scare (which was being hyped in 2005). Finally, there are even other prominent virologists like professor Peter Duesberg who have stated with solid evidence that HIV does not cause AIDS. Here are some more quotes from Lanka (who speaks German, so translated into English):
“What viruses are there at all, then, and what are they doing?
Structures which you can characterize as viruses there are in many species of bacteria and in simple life forms, similar to the bacteria. They are elements of together-living of different cells in a common cell type which have remained independent. This is called a symbiosis, an endosymbiosis, which has arisen in the course of the process of different cell types’ and structures’ combining, an endosymbiosis which has brought forth the present cell type, that type of cells of which humans, animals and plants consist … Very important: Viruses are component parts of very simple organisms, for instance of the confervacea type of algae, a particular species of a one-celled chlorella alga and of very many bacteria. As existing there, these viral component parts are called phages. In complex organisms however, in particular in humans, or in animals or plants, such structures which you might call viruses have never been seen.
In contrast to the bacteria in our cells, the mitochondria, or the bacteria in every plant, the chloroplasts, which cannot leave the common cell, since they are dependent on the metabolism of the common cell, viruses can leave the cell, since they are not carrying out any survival-vital tasks within the cell.
Viruses, thus, are component parts of the cell which have turned their entire metabolism over to the common cell and therefore can leave the cell. Outside the common cell, they are helping other cells, in that they are transferring construction and energy substances. Any other function of theirs has never been observed.
Those actual viruses which have been scientifically demonstrated to exist are performing, in the very complex processes of interactions of different cells, a helping, a supporting and in no case a destructive function.
Also in the case of diseases, actually neither in the diseased organism nor in a bodily fluid has any structure which you could characterize as a virus ever been seen or isolated. The proposition that there is any sick-making virus whatsoever is a transparent swindle, a fatal lie with dramatic consequences.”

They should be on national TV and radio, offering their contrary opinions and stating their cases, for the benefit of presenting a WIDER and more BALANCED view of matters to the public.

If it were up to me, I'd have some of them assembled, along with other experts who support and/or have been advising the government on how to handle this 'pandemic', live on national TV, in an in-depth 'questions and answers' session, where members of the general public could participate and CHALLENGE the assembled experts on all matters relating to this 'pandemic', including vaccines - and the questioning wouldn't just last for two minutes, like that during the joke nightly government 'briefings' on the BBC news; it would a couple of hours long and take place, say twice weekly, until Covid was no longer presenting us with such a problem.

Get EVERYTHING all out into the open, with the authorities making the rules being 100% TRANSPARENT and ACCOUNTABLE for their actions - then let the people decide which experts to follow, not simply those they're being told to blindly obey by the government. Knowledge is power. That's what should happen in a truly free and democratic country, as opposed to an increasingly thinly disguised dictatorship!

And as for the 30,000 deaths annually from flu, could that figure be partly due to the existence of a vaccine?

Well my first thought would be that if 30,000 people are still dying every year from flu, then the vaccine is piss-poor effective! Seems that way, no? So what chance have completely new and untried ones got of being any more effective against Covid?

My second thought would be that if there were no flu vaccine, then even more folks would've died, so that simply highlights how serious a virus flu is - YET the country has never been subjected to lockdowns, mask wearing and social distancing, etc, in order to prevent the spread of flu...

Pre-flu vaccine (when was it invented - do you know? I think it was around the 1940s), and with otherwise many tens of thousands of people dying from flu every year, can you remember the sort of hoo-hah we're seeng now with Covid, having been created to tackle flu?

No, I don't remember anything either... So you should ask yourself WHY....

Similarly the 'mere' 50.000 or so Covid deaths (only 20,000 more!) could be due to the lockdown measures. Without that, maybe the death toll would be in the hundreds of thousands.

I didn't say 'mere', and nor was I demeaning the number of deaths as insignificant (one death is one too many). My point was that why are 50,000 Covid deaths seemingly of 'greater importance' or significance than 30,000 flu deaths? Is the 30,000 deaths from flu not just as important a statistic to warrant similar action, in terms of prevention of its spread, as we're seeing now with Covid?

And your point about the potentially greater number of deaths there could've been from Covid, without lockdowns, is only valid if you believe that the current death figures are accurate, and not being deliberately inflated for effect - and there is credible evidence of that around if you care to look.

Plus, like I said, where are the death stats for all the people who've committed suicide from the effect of lockdowns and loss of jobs/income, plus those from folks who couldn't get cancer or other vital treatments? Don't they count either - or is that just seen as 'collateral damage'??

Measles and Rubella are virus's according to everyone i know including the WHO.

And there are plenty of electron microscope images available of paramyxovirus, which cause measles, mumps and rubella.
