I have a spare belt for it.:eyebrows:

Sorry Grant, I'd forgotten. You did mention that.

But, it's tricky to fit and get the bearings adjusted right, that's if you've got the tools to reach inside (and then remember the right way up for the bottom ball race and get it back in without the balls falling back out without using grease. Has to be fine oil only) and solder tiny wires at silly angles as you do it (three handed job). Oh and you have to figure out whether the belt goes back on with the bias helix extended or contracted. That'll take a couple of goes and also you have to get the adjuster dial exactly in the right position, otherwise the dial markings will be meaningless. It was a pain to do. I know, I had mine apart several times just to get it right.

Aye, I read up on it and tbh dont fancy it much lol. It will likely go back on market tbh as The arezzo is likely getting sold alas. Cannot afford 2 top TT;s. although the arezzo is superb and I will miss it. I think I will keep the thorens. The Nak pre will go as well(never thought I'd say that)

Do you really have to part with the SRM? Or maybe what I'm asking is, are you finding the TD160 that good in comparison? I wouldn't be surprised. The Thorens may be comparatively simple, but it is a fine TT.

I've seen those before. Coral made some lovely stuff. I'm pretty sure I've got a pair or two of those horn tweeters. They were sold under various brand names, including Eagle in the UK. Model CT10 if I recall, they were only cheap, but sounded very nice.

Judging by the seller's I.D. I'd say it's a female. She's probably crap at taking pictures. :D

(hardly surprising. How many women do you know who can handle a camera properly? Many blokes are useless too)

Early and very rare QUAD preamplifiers with a twist : a delay line !

Said delay incorporates professional electret condenser microphones and a dynamic driver unit in its air pipe.
The delay is then sent to the rear speakers' outputs to create reverberation. User-adjustable with three delay times, both TA-2244 and TA-2240 allow for the listener to access exciting and realistic concert hall sound.

The TA-2244 provides front and rear signals ; the TA-2240 only provides rear signals so it is more of a Quad adaptor than a full standalone preamplifier.

Made to be mated with four SS-9500 "bongo" omnidirectional loudspeakers, two TA-3200F powerhouses and the TC-366-4, a Quad version of the TC-377 bestseller (named TC-6364 in Japan).

The TA-2240 can be used a Quadradial supplement to the TA-2000. Very nice though :eyebrows:

A black pair made 170 last week, but postage was a fair bit cheaper. I'd expect these to go for about 135 at a guess.. and yeah they look poor with grills on but may be as you say the flash. Look good nude though. Could easy paint the grill black

True is that but my old missions from my dj days still perform ok on the end of a mini t amp. I also had a pair of ruark talismans in my dj days and along with the decks and a pioneer a400 they did the business at many a house party. I sold them in a fit of youthful daftness and would have those ruarks back in a heartbeat.

I'm not 100% sure why some sellers do this but its actually quite common to see power-sellers asking ££££ for relatively low value items... But there is a pattern ! There's always only one or two left with loads sold [if you click the link showing how many are sold below the BIN button you can see what price they sold for.] I think its easier for the seller to artificially boost the price to a value no one in their right mind will click until they restock then rather than relist from scratch they can just revise the price.

I think :)

Maybe it is, but five years ago, you'd have bought it for about £70.

Prices are getting sillier by the day. Plasticky eighties turntables fetching over £100 lately. Daft! Crappy old Wharfedale Lintons going for the same too.

I'll dispute that, too. ;) Ten years ago a Claymore was around £150. Add in inflation you get £250. Never seen one as cheap as £75 in 20 years unless it was spares or repairs.

Agree about the Lintons, though. Not all vintage is good.

The thing to remember with VFET Sony amps is that while they sound superb, they can be a bit fragile and there are no VFET replacements.

A safer bet is the '01 series Trio amps. They sound great too.

I had one of those Fisher tuner/amps, but unfortunately it was smashed in transit from the USA... it still sounded superb even in it's smashed state...;)

ADC 10E Mk.II, extremely rare now. Was top of the ADC range late sixties and sounds amazing. Manufacturers spec says track at 0.5 to 1.0 grams.

Says it needs a stylus. I've got a brand new spare for my existing 10E Mk.II, so I'll have two now (assuming the body isn't buggered).

Got my eye on another ADC at the moment. If I win it I'll post it here. It's a goodie.

You probably won't recognise it. Most who might know ADCs seeing this will say "Ah an ADC 26". It's not. It's the mega rare ADC 27, for which I have a couple of spare styli, but no cartridge. But now hopefully, I have. It sits between the model 26 and 10E Mk.IV in the range and is a fabulous and very useable non MC cartridge. A real bit of early seventies esoterica.

I thought I'd grab it. There were a few 'watchers'.

9710? Maybe. The driver opening appears to be the size for an 8" driver and the nice old chap who sold them to me said he worked for Phillips at the time the cabinets were made for him (in the sixties I'd guess).

Yes a bit of a result Grant. I'll check the drivers out and then have a listen to them. These are the M/01 version of the 9710 and supposedly the one to have. Rumour has it they are one of the best full range drivers about. We'll see. Takes a lot to convince me.

Wow. I was expecting lots of colouration and the usual odd phase effects through the mid due to the tweeter cone. Actually it's quite the opposite, they are very clean and tight, with remarkable transparency. Depth portrayal is in the Tannoy class. Amazing. I think these may be 'keepers'. Not bad for £30. :)

Rehdeko RK50 speakers at a sensible price from Emporium Hi-Fi. These are mega hard to come by.

There's nothing else quite like them!

A "sensible price"???!! I think the decimal point needs moving three places to the left, personally.... :spew:

How do people come to the price of £5 post for sending a cheap lightweight cartridge?

struth
29-01-2015, 17:22
depends on size of box and insurance and how rapidly you send. special delivery is expensive on the face of it but is well insured and spends the minimal amount of time in the hands of the carrier.

Three grand for a "brand new" Garrard 301? Not sure what to think. Looks a bit blingy, but theres a lot of work in there:

The speakers were around £7000 new if I recall Barry. So the pricing is not so daft.

Not my cup of tea but there is a lot of work in it to be sure. The pictures may well not be doing it any favours as it kinda looks like someone has sprayed it with a can and bolted it to a gateleg table ;)

Described by the owner as a holy grail amplifier - Sony TA-E7B/TA-N7B (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SONY-TA-N7B-TA-E7B-power-amplifier-and-pre-amplifier-V-RARE-V-FET-COMBINATION-/111585616007?pt=UK_AudioTVElectronics_HomeAudioHiF i_Amplifiers&hash=item19fb056087).

Sadly it is priced accordingly. Worth it I expect.

Decent looking Ortofon MC25 FL only bid up to £52 so far, ends in a day and a half. Very nice MC indeed, it has great depth and an 'organic' sound. I use one alongside my ZYXs and it compares well. They are definitely a bit special. Grab it if you want a fine low output MC at a sane price.

Good shout, Geoff! SPUs aside, the 25FL is from an era when Ortofon produced genuinely musical sounding cartridges, as opposed to the rather ‘hifi’ ones they do today.

Yes, the MC25 FL certainly has much of that encompassing 'glow' of the SPU. If it goes at less than £100, somebody is very lucky.
