Anyone fancy some blinged up Ardens? You will need to take a long drive for the collection though. :)

https://www.marktplaats.nl/a/audio-tv-en-foto/luidsprekers/m1273795967-tannoy-arden-3-15-inch-dual-concentric.html

Actually looks like a reasonable price. The seller says he has had them since new and judging from his other kit (accuphase amps?) I reckon he looked after the Ardens well.

220 volts ?

A few decades ago 220V was the voltage here in Europe. Not 230V as it is nowadays.

A few decades ago 220V was the voltage here in Europe. Not 230V as it is nowadays.

Still is (effectively) in many places, the 230v is an average that enables us Brits and a few other oddball places to meet the standard, which is set pretty widely as a result.

Pete The Cat

I wonder though, whether this means that kit designed for 220v is likely to prematurely age (eg transformer) when used in areas like mine where the mains runs at up to 245v ?

I not sure if a legit or not but if so could be a bit of bargain(relative) if my hunch that the 300b's are actually Western Electric ones.

I will leave to those who have actually seen a pair to confirm.

Surprised the listing police allowed this - he seems to be selling CDs at 3 Euros a pop, first come first served. (That's how I read it anyway).

Having said that, the abysmal taste of today's descendants of the culture that gave us the Bach family, Haydn, Mozart, Goethe, Heine and the rest, never fails to appall: 90% or more of the CDs listed are complete and utter dreck. Not just Eurotrash, every sort of trash is represented.

walpurgis
01-08-2018, 22:36
Well the twenty Euro shipping would put anybody here off anyway.

I'd imagine it's a radio station library or DJ collection to cater for every (dreadful) request.

That listing must have taken a while to assemble.

Clearly a joke. There have been other vastly overpriced items put up on eBay before. I don't know why people do it; apart from it being a bit of a prank.

But I note that other copies are going for between £40 and £70. Maybe I should dig out my copy and flog it?

Teleton GA-202 integrated amplifier. Bit of an unsung classic early seventies budget amp these going pretty cheap. Looks in pretty decent nick for its nearly fifty years age. Rated at 15 watts per channel, but actually more powerful. Made for Teleton by Mitsubishi and well designed. I've had a couple of these and they sound really nice. Don't forget it's DIN sockets if interested. Good bit of kit!

Not eBay,

Found this over in Denmark. It's a Z504 Avance power amplifier.

https://www.dba.dk/effektforstaerker-luxman/id-1042209642/

I was very tempted by it but have decided to wait till I'd heard the Krell.

One of these was on display at the Penkridge bakeoff and I was impressed by it's clean sound. 60w in Class A and has a switch on the back to swap to 200W in class AB. It was coupled to a pair of Urei's and very good comments were made about the sound.

After a chat with Peter (seller) in Excellent English, The cost is £400 delivered to the UK.

Not associated, just thought someone may like this beast.

Weren't they part of the LuxKit range?Yes they were Geoff. A lot of Luxkit, if not all, will have been built by someone different. There was also a couple of different ways to do them too, so I've read.

This model, the "Avance" was assembled by a Belgian company after concerns were raised by Luxman that English speakers would misread the instructions. These ones are a Factory build from the kits. A professional build so to speak.

All of the reviews on this model are rather good and add up to what I deem as a good rep.

There's another make that seems to bypass most people. Adcom, if you don't know them, check out their amps. I've got the GFA 555 on my watch list.

A mate has a Nak PA-5 and I've been bugging him to sell it to me for years. I'm glad to see the one in Kent being sold - sets a reference price point where I can continue to bug my friend.

I have actually got another amp on the way from China ebay. It's a TPA3116 integrated, just for a bit of fun and it cost me a whopping £17.

Here's a bench test: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d6WkVSr_Hn8 Looks good!

Rumour has it that these are a bit special and very nice sounding.

Had to look that one up. The Burson looks about the same size as the TPA3116.

I've got an SMSL Mini T Amp that's about half as big, it's really tiny, but sounds very decent. It always amazes me the something the size of a fag packet can drive a pair of speakers. It drives my big Tannoys Ok.

It's also got the quietest background noise of ANY amplifier I have ever heard. Simply silent. Even of max there is no noise. Nothing.

I'm impressed but it is a fair investment, £500? Still, it's perfect for small spaces. Seriously impressive.

There's a guy selling a pair of Harbeth who responded to my asking if it would possible to listen to them either before buying, or on pick up, by just saying it wasn't possible "but trust me they work fine"

Is it really that unreasonable to want to check something is working before handing over £1600?

Sounds to me like this person already had a long series of dumb questions being asked about the speakers. who were just time wasters and was fed up with answering them. Know the feeling well. However, I have sold many items that had an endless stream of dumb questions (with the answer already in the description I might add) and more often than not the person asking the most questions usually buys the item. so there is no excuse for such a response from a seller no matter how cheesed off they get with answering questions.

He might also have sold off the rest of his system so cannot demo them?

I agree about the dumb questions, I get them constantly, I’m currently selling over 600 cds and LP’s as a job lot , one woman just couldn’t accept that I wasn’t willing to sell her a few of the cd’s.

It's the lighting I think Don. The bass drivers are OK and the mids are just a bit wrinkled. Both use vinyl surrounds that tend not to perish, but do look wrinkled with age. Doesn't seem to affect the performance. They are Goodmans drivers.

I think there is still the odd bargain to be had. As an example, I currently have a turntable on its way to me from Germany. It's in good condition, apart from a scratch or two on the lid, and full working order. It was up for £50 and I was the only bidder - the last one on UK eBay went for over £300!!

Exposure Super XVIII sitting at £99.99 with a day to go. Fabulous power amp and they often don't sell for what they could IMHO.

I'm never entirely sure what a seller means by "clean" though, as in "a nice clean example". It seems a waste of time to refer to whether something does or doesn't need a quick wipe, so it just makes me wonder whether a seller is trying to infer that something's in good cosmetic condition when in fact it's probably showing its age, but is nonetheless not dirty

World’s First & Finest Statement Resonance controlled Fine Silver Loudspeaker cable set. Cost £172,800.00.

Bespoke custom Hand-Crafted from start to finish, Jaw dropping! Performance simply begs belief at what cable can do. Be totally blown away and bring a smile to your face for years to come as understanding grows, you will be amazed! And never look at wire the same way again.

Authentic Genuine piece, never abused, excessively bent or strained and always treated with utter utter respect & love.

This is just over 4 years old, fully run in and truly a beautiful work of art in the way it delivers realism. This was crafted as a solution item and the remainder of the cable system is also available for sale.

It's not an easy install, and the cable takes a month or two to daily settle down once moved. Happy to help set it up together but once done the rewards are immense.
In excellent condition, connectors will have connecting marks naturally from connecting the cable into speaker terminals to be concise and accurate in description.

If you own a true state of the art single ended or high end set up you will be simply amazed at how much of the music and data you have been corrupting and throwing away with so called high end commercial marketed offering. it’s difficult to describe this cable without throwing cliché after obnoxious cliché at it. The joy it’s given me in an intrinsic personal connection with whoever I am listening to and the portrayal of realism and correctness in voiding my audio best describes it for me.

 I'm only £119.500 short :(

:D

 I wouldn't pay £50 for them, let alone £500. It's this sort of thing that give audio enthusiasts a bad name and make them a laughing stock to other music lovers. If they are so good, why is he selling them?

And one to two month's 'burn in'? !! Give me strength!

They are definitely not RAM's although the RAM mini bookshelf used the same drivers albeit tweeter faceplate was rectangular and the bass/ mid was affixed with brackets rather than directly screwed into the cabinet through holes in the bass/mid frame. Suggest spec of those tweeters are checked as they have a tendancy to reduced output also check crossover for out of spec caps - after all, these speakers are more than likely over 30 years old. Falcon sell new tweeter replacements now but the bass/mids have been out of production for many years.

No. I did say 'possibly suitable'. Lowther used a variety of drivers in the Acousta horn, so other units may work well enough.

No. I did say 'possibly suitable'. Lowther used a variety of drivers in the Acousta horn, so other units may work well enough.

True, but they were all Lowther designed drivers. Just because the Philips unit has a 6" diameter and will fit the aperture, doesn't mean the combination will work as well as it would with a PM6 or PM7.

I have heard both the Acousta and the Corner Acousta: both designs displayed superb transient attack, but were coloured. I couldn't and didn't live with them for long.

Stick a good ol' Mission 774 arm on it, get the isolation right, and welcome to Hi-end on a budget.

Nostalgic turntable for me. I really cut my teeth on setup, isolation and maintenance with one of these. Good times.
