They're rubbish Bev. These are just an example of 'white van man' speakers. Sold in supermarket carparks by cowboys.
Oh ok... not nice then...
What about these... they don't come up very often...

Never seen them before Bev, but knowing AN (if they're genuine), they are likely to be nice.

They wouldn't sound any much better than some plain JPW's.

I've seen this on ebay.de (3 lengths available). I think that I can use these on a linn LVX arm so that I can mount a few out of my cartridge box for quick swapping/comparison
Has anyone seen /tried these and know which is best for the LVX? I have messaged the seller, but don't know how good he is at answering... :D

Yes, I spotted that. Got his pictures confused.
The Tannoy Puma uses a box that is way too small for Hi-Fi purposes. Nice enough driver though.

Yes Shane that's an older Oto SE, you can tell by the writing on the front. The later ones look like this:

and the very old ones had all connections on the side rather than the rear... ;)

I've always fancied some AudioNote kit... along with trying a decent set of Tannoy speakers and a pair of top of the range NVA cubes, these are the only audio itches I have left to scratch... Unless I come into a small windfall, they are all outside of my hifi spend budget and to be honest, my current system is ticking all the right boxes at present :D

Me too Stuart... Geoff/Walpurgis has recommended a I try a Class A amp with my JBL 4311's so I'd really love to hear this driving them... but my Densen DM20 is currently having magic dust sprinkled on it by the manufacturers in Denmark, so not only do I have a bill heading my way for that, given that its also very much a buyers market at present, I'd not be willing to lose money on my current monoblock and pre set-up... but there always is the credit card... I must resist, I must resist...!!!!!!!!

Yes, but any seller of an SPU would simply add the price of the box to his selling price - you would still be paying £85 for the privilege.

Same thing with vintage lenses in their 'original' tubular cases - with often disastrous consequences that only a full strip down and clean can eradicate. I avoid them ......

The foam of the box my ADC 25s came in has degraded and started to crumble. Whereas, the foam inlay of the box of my Ortofon SL15E is still as good as new, and it's 43 years old. Maybe Ortofon used a better quality foam for the inlay of their boxes, which is why Marco's and the eBay seller's boxes are still perfect?

Unfortunately not, £40 on ebay but happy with the sound for that money. Saw some MS speakers which looked similar on gumtree locally for £20 but thought they looked smaller so assumed they were one of the smaller models.

Had 1 bid on them a couple of days ago, managed to get them. They're Super Kubs, not sure about about the woofer (seas?) as I've seen them in a different frame a la Dalesfords but the cutout matches so... Let's see how I get on with them compared to the more usual models.

They are OK, but don't bid more than a tenner. They're cheap cables.
If you like Cambridge cables try these, they're slightly better in my view: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Cambridge-Audio-Arctic-1m-Hi-Fi-Phono-Interconnect-Cable/261958813099?_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%2 6asc%3D32478%26meid%3D372d07ce35ec4652ba473d410b49 e029%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D2%26rkt%3D6%26sd%3D1315 51782732&rt=nc

I can do that for £999 for F&F :) lol Regardig the varnish they have been like that for many years now, a very slight re-touch would sort it but in true honesty just don't have the time and patience to do it since things got so tough at work :|
are thsy yours felipe.. lucky you owning such lovely gear.
Indeed, they really have a fantastic layout inside, very good design that translates to the sound, but my other half has decided that we should move to another place as the kids are growing and I can't be arsed with taking in all the gear I own, going to keep only a few units and try to make some money with the rest that will be probably better spent (yeah right) with stuff for the new place.
Among others, I'll probably list a pristine TD135 MkII in a custom wooden plinth soon too, still figuring out the value.

I just checked your other items for sale (http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/Home-Audio-HiFi-Separates-/14969/m.html?item=171857617862&rmvSB=true&afsrc=1&clk_rvr_id=868074948733&_ssn=thefupos22). Your heart must be breaking a little having to sell such lovely vintage items. The Pioneers are simply gorgeous and the Denon PMA-850 is meant to be a lovely sounding amp.
Thanks for the kind words Paul, I see it this way: it gives me the heart and will to look for another gems in the future when this phase is long gone! The PMA-850 is a really good amp and damn heavy too, basically the same weight as my AU-11000.
I'm keeping some other units so not all is lost :) I'll keep some smallish and a few bigger units to keep rotating and having my mind distracted, for instance I got a mint Nikko NR-1015 this week that is easing the pain of parting with others ;) :D
edit: I forgot to addd, this specific 330A unit I have is a MONSTER of a vintage receiver!! It trumps so many other receivers, independently of the price, that I can't even really care to count... not sure why, but it originally came with the 330C transformer which I find a bit odd and the PCB's are different than the usual (white strips), but the sound is delicious with monster bass!

Yes. Decent arm. Never fancied a SodDek though. I've used a couple and heard loads of others. It's not for me.
I remember a mate using one with a Zeta arm and Koetsu Red years ago and he thought it was the business (I wasn't so impressed) until he got a Roksan Xerxes using the same arm and cart. The difference in focus and transparency was a revelation. I thought it sounded fantastic.

do tell!
do tell!
You need them on low stands, pref open frames, about 6-8 inches tall. Close to a wall but not too close, about a foot or two away. They don't take much power before the mid starts hardening up so if you have a big room you can't whack it up and fill the room. So you need to sit relatively close to the speaker - but as they are a 3 way you need a bit of distance for the drivers to integrate so there is a sweet spot re distance from speaker to listener, I would say between 8 to 12 feet. An amp with big or warm bass will sound a bit thick and ploddy with them, so ideally you want to use amplification that is lean and clean, same with the source.
They are nothing like the '66 which you could use as a PA system if you had to. Stay within their limits they are very sweet, almost beguiling in their character.
Anyway that is what I found, they didn't suit me in the end due to my room size and layout. Might be ideal in yours. If not you could certainly move them on at no loss, or even a profit if you wanted to when the market picks up again in the Autumn.

I've had a couple of pairs in the past. A mate still has the last pair. They sound pleasant, but are not exactly the last word in resolution and they suffer a real lack of bass extension for their size, due to the very stiff cone surround and high bass driver resonance. I wouldn't bother with them again. I'd far sooner have a good pair of Magnum K2s or Dovedale IIIs.

no, I meant that set of full range drivers you showed me lol.... just need some suitable donor cabs at right price
If anyone sees some bargain speakers on ebay please post on here.
They are to add to a rega RP6 with Ortofon 2M Red/Blue.
A musical Fidelity A3 (the gold plated one, not the newer model).
To run bi-wired on Q.E.D. silver anniversary speaker cable.
Budget is flexible if the item is good value for the outlay.
Thank you all in anticipation.
The Q.E.D. is the white variety, I have been told the black sounds slightly superior, but took that information with a fair amount of scepticism.
What does the membership think to these as a proposition please?

Overcooked spaghetti, wet string or bell wire all sound better than the white QED anniversary. It is, in my opinion the harshest, nastiest "Audiophile" cable on the planet. I had 20 metres of it which I threw out as I was too embarrassed to sell it on.

Yes. It's horrible. Just about anything other than that is better.

Yes I have heard similar things about it. While I do not take you to task over bell wire, I do not think spaghetti would actually convey a current. The dogs would love it though!

The best small speakers I heard? A pair of Castle Trent II. I was floored when I first heard them, and my jaw fell to the ground . The bass is hard to understand, coming from these tiny speakers, and the clarity and detail, are quite simply amazing. So is the build quality. NEVER EVER EVER selling these, and I actually got me another pair recently.

Are the white cables okay, friends have told me white is the poorest sounding, are they being real?
I have a pair of Van Damme inter connects, this is very tempting.
Thank you for the recommendations sir you are a gent.

Sorry , I've been into hifi for over 30 years and I've never heard anything about the colour of cables affecting their sound quality . Rest assured that both these sellers know exactly what they're doing and wouldn't sell anything that didn't sound excellent and provide good VFM . Why not contact them ?
In the spirit of getting back to the thread topic, this ends in ten mins.
no idea if it's any good or not but seems like it was a top end cdp...

If you are on a budget, you could consider looking at cheaper Audioquest cables. They tend to sound decent. Not that common used though.
Or terminated Van Damme cables, they can be very good and decent value. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/van-damme-speaker-cable-Blue-6-0mm-Plus-Jumper-Leads-All-Terminated-/161764463713?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item25a9e9d461
I've also found Merlin cables to sound good: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Merlin-Cables-Speaker-Cables-7m-/321809254584?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item4aed5388b8

I want to upgrade my Rega Brio 3, but is annoyingly good.
I'm thinking maybe a Creek Destiny 2, or a Croft PI. I thought about the Claymore on here, but I think not being able to switch source without the remote would get on my nerves...
Reality is I probably can't afford any of them, so that's why I'm looking idly at CDPs, though meanwhile I ordered a new laser mech for my CD6000 KI...

The Brio R is a very different animal to the earlier Rega amps which I heard ( and weren't keen on ) . They can be bought second hand at reasonable prices these days .

When I upgraded some cables, I got a huge jump. I'm looking for a similar jump with an amp. If I can't find it I'll stick with the brio, but as you imply "I want" is a powerful urge..

Get a Pioneer Stable Platter, cheap as chips and great through a decent dac. I sold a Perreaux CDt and kept a Pioneer PDS703 as neither me, nor half a dozen other geeky hifi mates, could tell which was playing through my MDAC.

Very true. I've got a couple of PD-S505 Precision players and they sound so musical. They are brilliant as a transport into a good DAC.

They are rather good and they have great presence and sound stage, no doubt about that, but they aren't in the same league as the best small speakers out there, not worth £280 in my book at least...
I've heard Castle Trent pitched against Wharfedale Diamond IV - preferred the Wharfies by a margin. The Castle are too warm and cuddly for me and their power handling ability is pretty low. Even if you have heard them and like them they are still not worth more than fifty quid in today's market.

I know Pete it's a very bad eBay listing as it is so easy to correctly place pics within eBay.... however if you can ignore the poor pictures it is still a bargain price for the quality of amp on offer..
I have an Oto and wouldn't part with mine for that sort of price..
I really don't understand why this amp hasn't sold as yet....

That might be right Grant, however I think he will also take a bit of an offer if I read his listing correctly...
If someone is close by in Lincolnshire and can get a listen to the amp I think they will be getting a complete bargain..;)
The Oto sells for about £2,400 new so anything close to £850 is a bargain... but then I guess I am biased...:D
