I have seen several EMTs advertised for sale with photographed taken outside. Usually they are EMT 950s and are photographed outdoors because they are very large pieces of kit. The fact that this particular 948 TT is phographed outdoors doesn't bother me.

Nor does the amount of carriage being charged. EMT decks are precision pieces of kit. I would expect the seller to provide adequate packaging - and transportion by air is not neccessarily cheap. I bought an EMT 930 from a seller in Hungary. He frequently sold ex-broadcast TTs and knew how to pack them. Mine arrived at Stanstead arirport in a massive air-freight wooden packing case with canvas straps. I believe I paid over £250 for the carriage.

Regarding the scam postings with an e-mail as the second and subsequent image - well I haven't seen that before. The EMT 948 listing I commented on didn't have that - if it did I would certainy regard it with suspicion. I'm surprised eBay allows such dubious posting to be made.

ebay are lazy and dont really care. i complained about a set of cables that had postage of nearly 800 quid on them which is obviously just a way of avoiding charges and as buyer had to pay for return post they were not goi!g to get many retyrns. ebay did nothing.! another reason why i use them less and less.

They're very good. No hint of hardness or harshness on my system. Excellent imaging and depth, with fine driver integration and no noticeable colourations. Even the bottom end is respectable for such a tiny box. Beautifully made too.

I'm pretty sure that's the same bass/mid driver as the Proac.

My Sterling LS3/5a's would probably be better as they are MUCH newer and have almost certainly been used much less and I wouldn't expect anything like that crazy £2,400..

For some reason Chartwell have a bit of a cult following yet they are made EXACTLY the same as any other LS3/5a as that's what the BBC standard called for.. I just don't get it.. :scratch:

It's a really nice sounding TT. Mechanically not a lot different to the GL75. The later G99 is just as good too (had a mint one of them as well).

Ooops, I'm no Sugden expert, as you can see, but surely there isn't much in it is there ?

The only one I have some experience of is the A21A, and it was a superb amp... used it with a pair of Shahinian Arc's... just couldn't afford the kit at the time...

Also the original add for this nasty looking one does say: "I can confirm that the power light illuminates when it's plugged in but as I cannot lay my hands on a 5-pin Din-plugged cable I do not know if it still functions or not"

Yes and no. It's decent enough, but not true Class A like the A21, let alone the A21A. I've had the Mk.1 and it's quite pleasant. This later Mk.II is just a styling revamp basically (not a very good one), but the poor old thing deserves better than to go to the tip.

Some may say that the originals are better but I have no idea on that as I have the Mk II's, all I do know is that these are potentially quite old, anywhere between about 1964-1985. Having said that the Heresy, along with most Klipsch's, are pretty tough so no real problem

If you have a 'flea' powered amp, then these will be a great match.. ;)

The only Tannoy dc's I've had experience of was a rather expensive pair of mint DMT 15's and after a while I found them to be pretty rubbish to be honest..

Are they vibrant? well kind of but not in a nasty way (to my ears anyway!) they are VERY revealing, are they lively? well they can be I guess if the music is 'lively'..

As for the "odd phase characteristics".. I don't know what exactly that is to be honest!!!

Bass wise they don't go particularly low (MkII's are supposed to roll off at about 63Hz, according to Klipsch)... but as I now have a sub this is not a problem.. in fact it was never a problem even without the sub as I have nice neighbours and don't want to annoy them with too much bass... I have the sub set pretty low on the gain so there still isn't an annoying amount of bass, just enough to fill in.. I'd still be very happy to run them without the sub though, as I have for a long time..

These are identical to a pair I sold Nick Faldo in 1980, he was using a 33/303 IIRC and his house was a coverted ancient village hall and they filled it. I think a T amp with these and a powered sub would be mind blowing :) If I had room for a fifth system, I would be well tempted. BTW, I have always found the phasing with Hereseys and in fact all Klipsh horn type speakers to be very acceptable.

Indeed they are however they don't sound right in this room, not their fault btw, just crap room acoustics. The MA R852's I bought from James (Istari Knight) a few months back sound so much better in here, in fact they are the best speakers I have ever heard so they will be staying then ;)

Indeed, it's quite mind-blowing really. I loved the first years of home computing, there were such a diversity of machines on the market. I've owned a fair few of them too. I wish I'd hung onto more of them as some are worth good money now if they are in good nick and have their original packaging and manuals. I have a Sinclair ZX81 in the loft which is unopened, I bought it in the mid-eighties from a local independent toy shop for the princely sum of 40 quid. god knows what it's worth in its current state, however I won't sell it. ;)

It's only one speaker and the surround (and presumably cone too) will need replacing. £350 to £500 is somewhere about right for a GOOD pair! :)

The L200 cabinet could do with a bit more bracing and really benefits from some more radical upgrades in the driver department but it's not an inexpensive process

The L300 and it's pro sibling the 4333 a different beasts to the L300 and use a longer horn that crooses overy properly at 800Hz and a much better bass driver, the 2231a which offers good deep bass with no boom. There is also the added benefit of the 077/2405 tweter. I'm surprised that you thought the L300's coloured and that is a trat they exibit little of unless there was something wrong with the ones you heard. Upgrades are relatively straightforward. Reconing the 2231 to 2335 spec and using a charge coupled crossover is all you need.

Been playing with this since I picked it up the other day. It sounds bloody amazing for what is I suppose a multimedia system. I'm feeding it with a Meridian 507 and it's not disgraced itself at all. Room fillingly loud and clean with proper bass. Great little thing. :)

Not bad at all Grant, if you want nearfields and not room fillers. They doind great at sbout a metre, pretty accurate I hadva pair in studio/edit 2 before we decided to standardise on the Tannoy Reveals. Our went for £135 just to give you an idea
