Presumably relocated inside.
Ports blocked off. Non-original tweeters, they are similar but have fabric domes by the look of them. Rear terminals replaced with nasty cheapos.
I believe the tweeters are in fact original - they look like T27 sp6535 and would be entirely correct for early Concertos.

Crikey, and it doesn’t even have a needle. What about this instead? Gumtree. There’s a Sansui AU 666 to go with it too.

It is. That may seem an odd combination, but the Lenco arms were available to buy on their own in the seventies and were respected designs.

I've been waiting a few weeks for a £1 fee offer has anyone had one recently? I bought a few faulty/misdescribed things recently and had to return them, just wondering if I'm on the naughty step...

Looks like a fairly decent Kef Concerto pair going in Leatherhead.
One tweeter looks to be pushed in (simple to fix) and rear corner damaged a bit but otherwise looks decent enough. Grills needs recovering.

99% sure these are RAM LS3/5a's - judging by the spring clip terminals and style of what's left of the label. Will need refinishing, but I guess these will end up with a Far Eastern collector who will be happy to pay for the restoration. Not sure how many pairs RAM made - I seem to remember reading ages ago that there were less than 10 pairs, which would make these highly desirable... Started at 99p, a bargain at the moment (£160) but won't finish that low I am sure!

I paid £50 for my pair, but £150 today is a bit of a bargain. Actually I'm looking for something a bit smaller in size (I use the DM2As with my AV system). If anyone can advise something that sounds equally as good, but occupies less volume I would be most interested.

Yes thats nice , I agree . I like the build and quality in the AP2600, I think Jachawk had one ??
The only thing with both the 2600 and the LP3000 , would be the electrics possibly ??
The 2200 is very minimal in electrics , only really the strobe to fail ,and nothing really too complicated ! A good solid performer ,for not a lot of money IMO

Those are in lovely condition. I reckon they could fetch a grand. I like the Eatons, they sound very fine.
I paid £225 for my last and fifth pair about ten years ago and I paid £200 for a my first set, brand new and boxed in around 1975.
Could get to a grand I guess but that is getting into Cheviot territory.
The seller also has a nice Yammy tuner. Very low bid so far and not so much time to go to auction end.

I actually prefer the Eaton's HPD295A tonally, to the Cheviot/Devon HPD315. It just seems to sound sweeter for some reason.
I'm always stunned by the sound of the Eatons. My Berkeleys are currently deconstructed so listening to the Eatons currently. Loads of texture, definition and outright engagement.

Shame about the horrible colourations. Me and Lowthers don't get on. :)
Agreed! I lived with a pair of Lowther Acoustas with the PM6 drivers for a couple of years. Superb attack and sensitivity, but coloured as tomato soup, with an abrupt low frequency cut-off.
Eatons previously sold for £840 and now relisted. Not sure what happened. Probably a non payer.

I will always have a soft spot for the Mission 752 Freedom, it was hard letting mine go.
"Shame about the horrible colourations. Me and Lowthers don't get on."
I changed an Elac driver in a paraline cabinet, (mono), for a PM6, and used that before going stereo with Tannoys.
Very fast, odd design, and I remember Donald Chave walking up Bromley High St to Smiths to buy cartridge paper with which to make the cones.
I have a Hi-Fi Choice - a smaller one, in which it says that Lowthers have one serious coloration which alone invalidated them from being considered Hi-Fi, and that there were many others also.

In the first pair you highlight, one speaker has a non-standard replacement bass driver and is best avoided.
The second pair are very optimistically priced given the repair work they need.

It's the 12" driver from the contemporary 'Pro' Goodmans range of the time and intended to work with the Hifax mid/treble horn, but as you say, best avoided.

Having said that, there is definitely an upward trend in 306 prices in the UK. Asking prices seem around £100 higher than a year or two back.

They are still good speakers even by modern standards and were a leading make many years ago. One of the brands Henry Kloss started, he was a major influence in Hi-Fi.

It's not just an amplifier, but the full set of Yamaha's original Active Servo Technology AST-A10 amplifier and AST-S1 speakers. You can only use them together as you have to plug a special matching cartridge module into the amp according to which model of Yamaha AST speakers you're using (this amp also comes with a cartridge for conventional speakers).
They use a fancy impedance matching system to draw bigger bass out of a small cabinet and it works surprisingly well.

It means you can link to it elsewhere (Twitter, Facebook, forums, etc.) and benefit from all the features eBay offers, such as photo hosting and feedback score, but without paying any seller fees.
Essentially making a private sale but using sophisticated software for the listing and info.
Obviously the buyer has no protection though :(

Forgive my stupidity but why would you list something at a price to make sure no one bids on it?The idea is to sell via eBay in the spirit of the deal. What normally happens is someone comes to look at the item they've seen on ebay and then make me a cash offer on the spot. If I accept, I can't just cancel to eBay ad because they can charge a fee if they believe you've sold it thanks to their site.
I deliberately overprice the now sold item so that no one bids on it and when the listening expires, I simply delete it.
It's not a deliberate tactic but it's happened a few times.

Adam , some sellers change the prices to avoid ending a auction and then having to pay a re listing fee , Common on lots of auctions , I have seen items that normally sell for £9.99 listed at £999.99 then when back in stock the price goes back down to £9.99 on 30 auctions

Usually it happens when it's the higher priced items like my Motorbike, multiple PA systems and bulky things that people have to collect or want to see working.
I've let auctions run for cameras and small box items and rejected offers of cash on collection.
I'd never cancel an auction if there were bidders. It's only on BIN items.

Regarding increasing prices if someone is coming to buy them being against the spirit, suppose someone is coming a long way to demo something expensive and they sell while he's traveling, you'd want to avoid that surely? You can't tell him to buy it and then relist it if he doesn't like it as you lose the £1 fee offer. So what should you do?

Is 220 volts ok in the UK
I've asked this question before but haven't had an answer, I suspect in part because there's no such thing as a single UK voltage when it comes down to individual location. I've measured my mains peaking at 245v which would be over 10% higher than this spec, suggesting that these amps would be running hot, shortening their lifespan or worse. My guess is that if your mains did run at the published 230v "standard" it would be OK but the variation that you experience makes it a gamble. But I'm no expert so will await someone who is...

After a few years with only the odd item appearing on eBay, there's been a rush of John Farlowe era Exposure amps recently. Plenty of VI and VII, the odd IV, even XI and XII. The Super XVIII Monos are one of the most highly rated and are as rare as hen's teeth. I had a single Super XVIII a few years ago and it was so nearly the end of the journey for me.

The early versions were plagued with problems which needed, amongst other things, a complete redesign of the motherboard. The later version (with the grey buttons, additional "tilt" and bass control settings and the removal of the 'cancel' LED) are good preamps.

You are lucky it was working? Andy Rappaport used to make very dubious claims about his products many thought he was a fraud. One of his designs he claimed was the result of 20 years of research and he was just 22 at the time. The so called magic black bricks in his preamp was nothing more than motarola op amps and were sealed up to conseal that from view. I gather his power amp used to get so hot it was according to many of the trade who sold them a serious health hazzard!

Yes, I've heard the stories. Whether they are true or not is another thing and does not alter the fact that the Rappaport blew away every other pre-amp I tried until I got my Forte Model 2, after the best part of twenty years of reliable service.

Yes its true just ask any of the old time US dealers who carried his products. One told me how he was so exasperated with their lack of quality and Rappaports poor service to them one day in fit of temper he took a hammer to the much famed pre and its so called magic sauce in the sealed black bicks. What he found was just the motarola op amps, nothing more, nothing less.
Now Nelson Pass is a whole different kettle of fish one of audios great electronics designers. What I did not know was that your pre amp was probably mainly designed by his partner, aparantly Nelson majors on power amplification and his partner the pres. I learned this from a recent really interesting interview series Steve Guttenberg Audiophiliac has been doing with Nelson.

Scruffy Tannoy Lancaster 15" Monitor Golds. Untested and possible damp damage. If they've been damp for a long time, the magnet assembly could have internal corrosion, which would be a bugger to sort out (I could do it, but it would be beyond most). It'll be interesting to see what these fetch, they could be worth a gamble, but that's certainly what it'll be.

If anything, I'd say the starting price is low. I expect to see them sell for possibly over £1500.
The driver is the professional version of the lovely sounding 3128 unit, as employed in the Balmoral, Bradley and Cheviot Mk.II models. The main differences are I believe, a higher power rated bass coil and durable rubber roll cone surround instead of the foam used on the models mentioned.

I originally choose to use this deck as a re-entry into Vinyl, being utterly deluded with music files.. also a break away from specialist decks, the fact that it is semi automatic meaning i dont have to jump us as soon as one side of the record is over lol.. However the key to this deck is the JVC 'ADT-10X' cartridge that uses a Shabata tipped styli of which Jico still produce,

Yes it was.. No Direct Drive.. The idea is a stereo void of most everything that conforms to Hi-Fi dudes rules & regs lol

Belt drive then ? Sorry ,your reply confused me (easily done !!) You meant yes its off E bay and no direct drive?
I see no quartz lock or speed control, so assume it must be belt
Even so , A nice cheap, but good quality unit that flies under the radar I think

Oh dont worry Andre . I am with you mate !! I gave up chasing the Emperors new clothes a long while ago .
I have a couple of Aiwa AP 2200's that cost under 60 each , and a few different headshells , that are quite adequate for the odd occasion I bang an LP on !
Mr prescence here is more a habit than anything else ,(and a few odd great posters !!;)

I stick was the same basic principles of the 70's always will cos they knew what they were on with back then & most importantly no Hi-Fi Bull shite, something the whole hobby reeks of these days imho. people can accept it or not. The Japanese were leaders in Audio research.
You can tell by the posts on here that Everything has been talked about already, there are more non hi-fi related posts day in day out compared to on topic.. Not a bad thing because people dont always want to talk about Hi-Fi all the time..

Lucky for me - love music and hifi but know bog all about the finer details. But I can talk shite for England, and regularly do. Without off topic I'd be screwed :(

I was watching them end, The bid was just at the finish.. Crazy but they are massive. Those Queen Anne legs just screw off & that shitty stain strips straight back to reveal natural English oak veneer.. He got a good deal. They were only 15 mins from me.

Got a Nakamichi CR-1 for £35, never owned a nak before so interested to hear how it sounds compared to other decks I’ve owned.
Also found an Aiwa AD-F910 for £30, looks like it possibly just needs new belts, looks like a pretty nice deck from the same year I was born:)

Good bargins those Scott. The Aiwa should do some great recordings with good tapes. It has tape collaboration on it. plus being a 3 Head you can monitor the original source.. I record with the Aiwa, play back with the Nak being a 2 Head..

I like the fact it has a cd direct button and a switchable HX Pro button, always wondered whether HX pro really made any difference, guess now I’ll be able to compare :)

It does its a tad quieter NR

Looks like the Nakamichi is going back to the seller.
I asked him to wrap the plug securely inside the box but he completely ignored my request and the plug damaged all the paint on the top of the deck :(
I really wish sellers would take more care when packing UK plugs, I’ve lost count at the amount of times this has happened:doh:

I ask for plugs to be removed or cut off and not sent , no damage then , plugs are cheap
