A 2-armed turntable? - well I guess, kinda. Cecil Watts would be pleased.
Bet it all sounds good though. Aren't Leak TTs
badged Lencos?

Looks like the arm Trio used quite a bit in the early seventies.
Aren't Leak TTs rebadged Lencos?
Some were, but not this one. It's a Leak 2001, which was belt drive with a suspended sub-chassis. Unusually, the subchassis sat not on springs but on rubber balls filled with silicon grease. The arm is an AT1005.

They're not worth as much as that. £150 to £200 tops! The later System 800 is superior and goes for not much more.

Sure these originally came in a rubberlike plinth; probably that and the arm that make it look different. I'd say its overpriced.

Yep - spot on. The Leak Delta turntable was the one based around a GL75 and the later 3001 was simply a re-badged Rotel.

That's 'mysticvinyl'. He's been flogging bits of Hi-Fi for years (maybe he's a member here?. I'd have those classic Pioneers if they were nearer, a bargain at that price.
The previously mentioned Technics speakers are well over priced and usually sell for about half that. They're just a fancy looking bigger budget speaker really.

Yep if the Pioneers were just down the road I would have had them already. The Technics are interesting, horn cell mid-range and all that, but I wouldn't take a punt at much more than a ton fifty and only then because they look pretty much perfect condition.

No, my platter is not damped. I use a heavy imitation suede finished rubber mat, it works well. I've got the manual thanks Stephen.
I believe the Technics 1200/1210 lid is the correct size to fit, it may want a bit of tinkering to use hinges, which I wouldn't bother with anyway. There was a guy selling Techie fit, plain lift off custom lids for £25 on eBay, which were the perfect size, but I don't know if they are still available.
If you're ever considering using a Technics cover on your Toshiba Geoff - don't! It won't fit! Smaller. For some reason I never measured my Toshiba and just ordered the Technics cover. Perhaps mine is bigger than yours.
Nevermind…
PS
My deck measures 470 x 370mm.

I have two lids Stephen, they're serviceable, but not exactly mint.
The lids I referred to on eBay were custom items and I did check the quoted dimensions. They would have fitted the Toshiba. Don't know if they're still available though.

Thursday evening after work I saw a Thorens TD 160 listed with a BIN price of £35 including carriage. Bit surprised at it still being available I had a look. Instead of a 160 I found it was actually a 150 without armboard or arm. Anyway, I bought it as I've fancied one for a while. That was at about 16.50 and it arrived the following day, which did surprise me. Last night I did mention that it was in fact a 150 and the seller apologised. This morning he was up early and found the armboard and arm and was ready to have them posted on Monday, but I told him I would be happy with just the armboard, which he will post on Monday.
The seller is sithnamara and he's a genuine and most helpful seller.

He is a good guy, very knowledgeable too, surprised about the mistake, but easily done.
I bought a Quad 303 from him several years ago, he had serviced it, and it was in lovely condition.

In four years of buying bits of stuff, it's the quickest response I've ever had. It was well packed too covered in bubblewrap in a stiff Audiolab 8000 amp box with a further cardboard sleeve and then secured with two bands of wrap.

They look like one of the 15" PA model drivers from the 'Wildcats' series. Decent units and fine sounding, but not Monitor Golds!
The Monitor Gold has circular holes in the chassis and does not have the clearly visible ceramic magnets.
These are a generation or so more recent.

Those Ureis have been on before, and discussed in this thread. Have a feeling they were a grand or so cheaper last time too. The bass units re-foam looks a poor and untidy job.
However, they're over 100db efficient (103db, I think?), and reputed to be able to reproduce a drum kit credibly. How many SWMBO's can you say that of?

Thats what i should've added in my post, it looks like a thrift shop by the look of the clutter in the background,
if i was near notting hill i'd take a walk along to check them out.
Well, they are extremely heavy. I have to take the drivers out of mine if I move them
When I bought my pair of 811's they were local pickup only. Luckily in a small and unlikely village only a few miles away. And listed as spares or repair. Bit of a gamble really. Knowing what I know now I'd drive quite a long way for a pair!.

I like the look of that elliptical midrange unit. I'd guess early 70s, look in really good nick. The HK origin is interesting but there is nothing on the net at all about Spectrum or the Radio People in Kowloon. If they are close to you would be worth a punt for fifty notes.

Hi Grant, found Spectron (pretty close to Spectrum!) speakers from Canada on the web. Seemed to be an offshoot of Philips. Could that be the ones you remember? As Marco says can't find a thing about these anywhere.

If you Google 'the radio people ltd' it seems they use Wharfdale units. Never heard of them but it was a shop in Hong Kong that imported Whardale speakers and made some of their own using Wharfdale drivers.

Why is there STILL no credible alternative to eBay?
(and don't mention Gumtree, that's becoming more controlling and expensive and it's owned by eBay)
These have now been listed four times with no takers, probably because they're collection only in St Austell. Good buy if you're in the South-West.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Heybrook-HB1-Main-Stereo-Speakers-/121483023917?pt=UK_AudioVideoElectronics_HomeAudio HiFi_HiFiSpeakers&hash=item1c48f3d62d

The fees are really absurd at this point, and they are leading to 2 issues here.
- Sellers are increasing their asked values to silly amounts to compensate for the very expensive fee's (including P&P).
- Lot's of items not being sold and lots of unprotected parallel offers being made atm, trying to escape both Ebay and Paypal fees
The service is loosing quality, and it's all about the buyers. Sellers are really left unprotected with scammers. I think there's a drop of newly listed items in the overall, and there's also another thing: The present limit for opening a case is 45days (I think) which is silly imho, but Ebay is changing that to 180 days in 2015! Now think about that!!
You sell a CDP, get your money, eventually feedback, and 6 months after you have a open case from the buyer trying to get his money back (and he will succeed) and return the item (probaby not even need to). What in the world are they thinking??!!

Who said that they want business sellers as well? The rules for business sellers are now not far off from commercial blackmail. They seem designed to let eBay smell of roses, and sellers as swirl.
Well, they are getting loads of money with their present configuration. There's no valid alternative in the realms of an open european market, people are stuck and proud of their several hundred figures feedback and it's hard to start everything somewhere else, for everybody.
But the bastards are pushing the envelope, too many requirements, too many restrictions and too expensive to sell something used and private. As soon there's a alternative they will be smelling something else. That is, until they buy the competition. Again.

They've been pushing for PayPal users to link their Ebay transactions automatically with PayPal, so presumably that's what's behind it.

It's an Optonica RP-7100 - I've had a couple over the years. It has some fairly basic track selection facilities as a result of the opto-sensor in the second arm that sits beside the main arm. The advantage with this is that you can use any cartridge in a standard SME-style headshell but its not as good as the good old ADC Accutrac 4000 from a programmability point of view.
Quite nicely made, though and the glass lid is rather impressive!

Speed's spot on Al, ran it for about 15 minutes while we looked at his set up (different Sony DD turntable/Audiolab/Martin Logan ESLs) & it hadn't wavered. Got to do a little fettling, VTAs way out so I'll need to find a small allen key to adjust it. It's in pristine condition & has obviously been well looked after.

Whilst I agree the seller is overstating the case somewhat, they're not actually 'plastic general purpose public address speakers'. They are actually Tannoy-badged versions of the GLL Arena speakers that were originally designed as a 5.1 channel setup with a passive subwoofer.
These have GLL's ICT driver and a solid moulded cabinet and are surprisingly capable.

I know they use an ICT driver. Those are OK, but I've not found them wonderful, having had a couple of pairs of Imagios. I didn't know the CPA6 was part of a 5.1 system, I thought it was used in a similar context to the 'i' series (some of which also have tacky plastic boxes, with awful colourations, like the i6).
The eBay listing is nonsense nonetheless.
But they're a "vintage classic" :)

Hehehe… That’s the bit that matters, and what makes doing all the rest worthwhile! ;)
Let’s face it, modifying T/Ts (of any description) isn’t exactly new - we’ve been upgrading the likes of PSUs, tonearms, mats and plinths on T/Ts for years. Look how much, for example, the LP12 has changed since it was first introduced. Compared with a new one, I don’t think there’s much (if anything) left of the original!
The same (even more so) could be aimed at Regas, and various other T/Ts, so it’s not only Techies that folks replace things on from standard :)

Not heard of them, but Beyer transformers of the right spec should be decent enough.
Here's a link to their website: http://www.aurealisaudio.com.au/mc-step-up-transformers/

Cheers... the do another one with Jenson trannies that sounds better suited
Aurealis SUT-JT ... The Aurealis SUT-JT is built around USA-made vintage transformers. These are a Jensen style silver cube transformer but bear no manufacturer's label. Customer reviews on the performance of these transformers have been glowing. They are switchable between 10x and 20x gain and load an MC cartridge at 470 Ohms (10x) and 120 Ohms (20x) when used with a standard phono amp of 47kHz impedance.
Might do me if I decide to go low mc :eyebrows:
Not sure how the firebottle plus will do without one.
