Whilst I have had very good experience with Teleton amplifiers, never tried their speakers, may be fine, be interested to lean how they are.
Must have been around 1971 or so I bought a Teleton STC106 Stereo cassette deck. No Dolby on it. Very well made and worked fine to many years before I gave it to a friend, was also made by Mitsubishi.
This was recorded on it in my bedroom in the early 70's, a friend playing my guitar. It has had a few transfers, so quality is reduced from original.

This shows the Mitsubishi link with the Teleton name. http://www.nvhr.nl/gfgf/schema.asp?Merk=Teleton&Zoeken=exact&isSubmitted=yes

Well they are early alnico versions, which I suppose makes them desirable.
The cabinets look solid enough. I reckon I could have those looking near enough new easily enough. But then I don't mind taking on that sort of restoration. Others might balk! :)

Virtually everything Emporium Hi-Fi sell is IMO overpriced; or has been 'fiddled with', so is not in an unmolested condition.

I assume it's like a second hand car dealer where they have found out that most of their punters will want a bit off the asking price as a matter of course. So gives them some room to haggle and still make money.
Or they paid too much for it in the first place and have to overprice it to make anything on it.

I always liked Teleton stuff, only one item I came across that was not so good, the Teleton GT 202 tuner, cosmetically matched the SAQ206 etc. made nicely, worked fine, apart from too hissy on FM Stereo, despite a good aerial input. I tried several samples, shame.

Are they mad? £265 for a budget Panasonic turntable?

Why? Just because it's got a bit of woodgrain vinyl wrap on it? A few years ago this would have been £10 boot sale fodder. I'd sooner have a PL-12D.

No way would that ever be a £10 boot sale TT. £265 is quite something though. Badged 'National Panasonic' rather than just Panasonic so I guess that might date it to late Seventies? Or a grey import.

Those look in decent condition for a seventies speaker. The Devons are liked by many. They use the respected HPD 315A driver, as is also used in the Mk.I Cheviot. They are a proper dual concentric monitor driver, based on the Monitor Gold. The crossovers would no doubt benefit from a service by Paul (RFC), unless they have been looked at recently.

At the moment, I guess asking prices can be up to maybe £750, with a realistic selling price of perhaps £500 to £550 depending on condition. They tend to fetch about 15/20% or so less than the bigger Cheviot.

I bought a pair about 4 years ago, had new foam surrounds fitted, cabinets were very tatty, one completely split along one joint.
Great drive units, good sound for compact size, however the units will benefit having a larger cabinet.
Think I got a good deal at £400.
Have repaired the split cabinet, but cabinets need refinishing, possibly re-veneering.

Enjoy , I missed a Yamaha amp , a Denon cassette player and a Technics CD player ,and 2 Gale speakers with stands and all leads for £20 plus the other day , less than 15 miles from base.

Hmm. No telling what they'll be like. Might be OK.
Dan. If you'd like to try something different that actually sounds way better than you'd expect, keep your eyes peeled for the TDK S80 or S60 speaker system. They use a pair of small NXT satellite panels with a compact sub. I have the S60 system and it sounds amazingly good. They're so small, I've fooled people into thinking the main system is what making all that decent sound. They are scarce, but go for peanuts, because few people know about them.

Also Sugano's connection with the Supex 900 is as not clear as the seller is making out. He certainly worked with Supex but I don't think he was involved in the design of the 900 or the 901.

Isn't there a connection with Osawa Barry? I believe their MCs were close relatives of the Supex items. As I believe early Linn MCs were too.

The Linn Asak was purportedly made for them by Osawa, and there is a tenuous connection between Osawa and Sugano, but his involvement with the Supex 900/901 design is slight, if there was any at all.

Tidy price too. They're overrated. The sound is a bit coarse at the top and bass is virtually non existent below about 60Hz.
You'd get a pair of Chatsworths for around that sort of money and Cheviots for less. Both far better.

Grossly overprised and a bit rubbish actually - HPD 10 inchers are much better than the 10in Golds. Not so long ago these were £250 a pair which even today is probably fair for what you get.

I'm really tempted as I've read good reviews about them... They will go into my "use in the future collection" if I do buy them.
The history of them being one owner from new is what got my initial interest as I've bought some good speakers off first owners and they tend to be well looked after

Beefy sounding speakers. Well reviewed back in the seventies. Worth trying if they can be bought for less than maybe £85. I'd not pay more myself. The Wharfedale Dovedale III is a close relative and has a similar balance.
The bass drivers have a little 'cone sag'. Rotating them 180 degrees should cure that after a while (they'll need to sag back into position).

Not eBay but another local charity shop....
Yesterdays fined was a pair of Realistic Minimus 3.5 speakers there too cute to pass so £2 later had them on all night as a radio with the Teleton 206B they seem to be in good working order sound OK Their ideal for this purpose but they add to the Gennexa LX5 Pro's & Realistic W7's as a collection of Radioshack nice little speakers all 3 pairs.....
I think we might have to ban you from charity shops Dan:)
I was nearly caught out on Sunday when I fetched an amp I had purchased on E bay. I had not told the other half (as I have been warned about collecting stuff ;)) but the Technics SU VX700 was too good to miss as the ad was a bit brief ,it looked dusty and had a knob missing !!
Had arranged to pick it up on Sunday morning so in prep I went to the cash machine for the £50 ,to go with the £30 already in the wallet.
The wife pinched the car unexpectedly to go to a Harvest Festival thing ,so off Oddball went secretly and met vendor in pub car park.
Imagine my face when I opened my wallet to be confronted by 2x£20 notes and a fiver!!:scratch::doh:
Luckily I had £4 in coins in the old 4 x4 and the gent let me off ,and I promised to Paypal the other 6 quid (paid him a bit of petrol money)
My Mrs had obviously raided my wallet and nearly bug****d the whole deal !!
Would have served me right:lol:

Being an avid follower of Tangent Speakers of the 70's +I'm alway keeping my eye out for fine examples to add to the collection...and these, unfortunately have been tampered with...

The original T27's have been replaced with the earlier sort, and these are actually TM1's
And these..
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TANGENT-RS4-HI-FI-SPEAKERS-/322277043888?hash=item4b09356eb0
These RS4's should have Audax Mid/Bass units...completely different sound, and the T27's have been changed...both tweeters are sporting 2 black cables to the dome...All RS4's were fitted with higher spec T27's black and blue cables....Boo hoo...
spendorman
03-10-2016, 19:36
The T1's, presumably TM1's? perhaps should have the later type KEF T27 tweeter.
The RS4's should have Audax bass units.

The T27's with a blue wire visible from the front, to my knowledge, are just early versions, later they changed to all black wires visible at the front.
Early LS3/5a's had the blue, later, the black.

Judging by the appearance of the 'console' it looks like it was taken from an up-market '60s nightclub. Who these days would use Decca cartridges for DJ duties? (By the way the counterweight of one of the arms is missing.)
But given the value of the individual items (2 x Quad 33/303, 2x Garrard 301, 2x Tannoy speakers and 2x Decca ffss arms with Mk.II or Mk.III cartridges), the asking price is not too absurd.
Looks like a bar

Sadly not Tannoys according to the listing but Wharfedales which changes the equation rather a lot ... if they were corner GRFs which at first glance they appeared to be well now that really would have been a bargain.

I think they may be Tannoys. The cabinetry looks right, even though the grille cut-outs are unfamiliar (could be pretty early, Silvers/Reds?). The Wharfedale Airedales I've seen have the grille cloth extending across the minor side angles.

There's no way you could use those Deccas for DJ duties, the stylus arrangement is far too delicate. I would guess that this was put together buy somebody with a lot of cash who wanted to play at being a DJ in their own home.

I remember this console, it was in the Colony Club in London, co owned by George Raft and Meyer Lansky and other Mafia types, it was used to play records not to "DJ" I only went there as a kid, probably around 1970 and there was no back cueing going on, just playing of records. Mainly very cool jazz IIRC

I never quite know what's a good price for some items on eBay. I bought a Zoom q2 hd camcorder some while back at a price which I thought was reasonable. It seems to work fine, and is probably in better condition than one I borrowed last year. OTOH Zoom q3 hds seem hard to find, and can fetch over £100. There is one at present - usually a "new" listing appears every few weeks. I might bite on this one, but I can wait - though sometimes waiting puts a purchase off for ever.
I usually try to monitor the prices that things go for. It is in the nature of auctions that if you are successful, then on the day you have paid more than anyone else was prepared to offer, but the prices can vary a lot over time.

The second 'tonearm' is a glorified Dust Bug.
Ooops. What about the copper aspect of it though, any good ? Could get close to £ 180 maybe.

Is it real copper though or just 'burnished copper' contact film and I really don't like the hardware shop alloy angle all around it. It's just another L75 to me.
Doesnt look well made to me. I would dump the box lol, but just me maybe
I think I need banning off E Bay and Gumtree. On Friday I saw an ad , some 15 miles from me for a stack system .
https://www.gumtree.com/p/amplifiers/technics-amp-denon-cd-player-and-nad-rds-tumer-/1190064560
I wanted another CD player to go with a second system I was knocking up , so I bought the lot ,with a view to selling the amp and speakers ! The chap was A1 , a great communicator and well spoken ,and was selling as he was moving house and don't see himself installing it all in his new abode. Told me it was all boxed !! Did just wonder about that ??
Anyroads , I met him outside the house and we loaded it all up ,all in their original boxes . Even the old Mission 733's !
At home ,I was pleased to see all the handbooks and all the bits were in there 2 remotes , bar the speaker cable ! The one Bass driver in the Missions ,has a bit of Polycone rot , but I shall glue it up with similar material ,or sell the other perfect driver and get 2 different matching ones if I need to sell them :eyebrows: To be fair ,they are mint , like the rest , and boxes too :) Not the Mission 733i 's though , or I could have bi wired them up with my Mission 752's
I have now just put the tuner in and I even found a boxed battery booster panel for the aerial !!
The Mrs will have my guts :D

Bid history looks a bit off to me. Be interesting if it mysteriously reappears. Not exactly pristine seller feedback either.
Sony PS-8750 (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Sony-PS-8750-HighEnd-Vintage-Schallplattenspieler-Turntable-/391596530298?hash=item5b2cf8da7a:g:OTMAAOSwZJBYAm2 U) - these don't crop up too often.
A lovely thing, and considering the quality of the engineering and performance it'll offer (and its superb condition), a veritable bargain!

just seen this, nice little amp :)
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LFD-Mistral-integrated-amplifier-/332003586578?hash=item4d4cf4b212:g:q3sAAOSwh2xYA2H n
The seller's description isn't totally accurate.
These amps were made in the UK, (Clacton On Sea to be exact),
It wouldn't have been made in 1990, it's not as old as he says, it would have been made around 96-99.
Also he said it has a phono input. But it probably doesn't. LFD integrateds all have the phono input sockets and phono written on the source select, but it was an option to have a phone stage actually inside. So beware :) the seller would either need to try with a turntable or take the lid off and have a look to confirm. But not many were built with phono stages inside.
And just to let you all know, these amps can be fitted with the bigger transformer from the Integrated LE which will mean a boost in power to out 80watts per channel. No idea if Richard Bews still has any of these lying around, but he might.

Not sure if you are aware but there's a thread for this sort of post http://theartofsound.net/forum/showthread.php?33544-Bargains-on-ebay-(Part-2)&p=796045#post796045
Also I have to say £500 seems a bit pricey to me for what this is.

sorry, if its in the wrong section. I'm still new here :)
I think the price is OK ish, but he's put Best Offer, I actually offered £300 which he declined, but say £400 would be a good price especially if it has got a phono stage, as the phono stage is basically an LFD MMO.

I believe that all the information above is correct. That said, sending a copy of the ebay ad direct to Dr. Richard Bews (LFD founder, designer and builder of all things LFD) might be useful. He can be contacted at lfd_audio@yahoo.co.uk
The only LFD integrated I know for certain that has the switchable mm/mc option was the Zero LE III series and even then, one without this option could not be retro fitted to accept it. Dr B was strangely dismissive of his on-board phono stage seeing it as something akin to a 'get you home' addition. However, my colleague Howard's experiences with both the Zero III with phono stage and the the same amp coupled to the external and current LFD LE phono stage demonstrates (he tells me) that the differences are small.

Trust me on this Neil, I almost definitely made this amp myself, it was also me who came up with the name "Mistral" :)
These amps were not made until 96, maybe 97.
Also, they could be supplied with the phono board inside, which is basically an LFD mmo board but from memory different caps but pretty much the same as the MMO.
It could be changed to MC by soldering across a couple of pins, or was it cutting the solder joint, cant remember which way round.
But it was far more than a get you home phone stage:)
A phono stage board could be retro fitted to these amps, but as it happens this one definitely does have the phono board inside, I messaged the seller and asked.
Btw, not a huge difference between the mistral and the LFD int zero, wiring and caps tbh, same main pcb and transformer.
The Int Zero LE had a bigger transformer and heatsink which actually meant about 90 watts, its the same transformer that went into all the bigger lfd amps at the time.
I did suggest to Richard that we should make a super mistral with this transformer, cant actually remember if any were made though, might have been...

Rather cheaper at auction https://www.the-saleroom.com/en-gb/auction-catalogues/special-auction-services/catalogue-id-srspe10110/lot-b2a6d73f-4a52-45d2-8cc0-a4b100add724 just up the road too from Calne (funnily enough I drove through there on Sunday).
Having said that I always fancied a pair of Arthur's speakers, he was quite passionate about them by all accounts though bested by Peter Walker of course at least in this department

Radford was one of the first to exploit transmission-line loading in speakers. Ably helped by Dr Bailey, who acted as a consultant (he also suggested using an ECF82 as a more linear power splitter in the Radford valve power amps).
