Denon POA6600 monoblocs with the pre-amp. Top dollar but tempting nonetheless
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/127920549513?itmmeta=01KW4KE6M2AA1BBH80HSEBGV2K&hash=item1dc8a8ae89:g:2ukAAeSwHJ5qLZ6J
Now that I like and could use. Monoblock amplifiers with balanced line input, a preamplifier with a balanced-line input and balanced outputs. Excellent!
Ideally there would be another balanced-line input, but you can't have everything.

In this ever-changing world it's nice to know that whatever the decade or whatever the fashion Denon products will always be gorgeously brutalist and chunky.
Not ebay but always fancied some of these - a lot of speaker for £1500
https://www.emporiumhifi.com/loudspeakers/jbl-ti5000-loudspeakers/
Looks like good value for an aluminium cabinet speaker with AMT drivers. Not new by any means but I bet they sound pretty good based on what the Piega 611 does at around £15K.
They would cost around £9.5K now inflation adjusted.

I picked up one of these a few years ago as back-up when my Avondale Monos needed time off for servicing. The XXVIII is part of the range after John Farlowe left Exposure so it doesn't have the same fan club. From what I've found it's a refined version of the Super XVIII. I'm not sure where else you'd find quality dual mono amplification with such dynamics and warmth for £400-odd.

It's in Brum so fairly central to anyone except those in Scotland.
Yes, that is a good price for an EMT 938. Unlike someone in the UK who has a Linn LP12 for sale on eBay for £50,0000!
When I started this thread over twenty years ago, perhaps I should have finished the title with "(?)".

Look to be near mint condition, must be 1 careful owner. I'd take them all day over LS3/5a even though I like those too.
Yes it's an obsolete, lo-fi format, but who doesn't want one of these?

It would have been better if the function controls had been on a tray that could slide away underneath the unit when not in use.

TT2 with Mission 774 and (broken) Dynavector 10x. The arm alone is worth the asking price. Turntable plinth is slightly scruffy but would take much to make it lovely. Weird mat probably needs replacing!

Judging by the 'patina' of the arm, it looks as if the whole has been stored in a damp cellar for a year or more! And what was going through the owner's mind to paint the lovely reeded aformosa plinth blue? :spew:
Wouldn't touch it with a barge pole!

My guess is that it was in shit-state previously - like you say, stored for a long time in a shed or garage - and he had half a tin of blue paint lying around.
Seller probably isn't the original owner, he's picked it up in a clearance or something, probably already painted like that when he got it.

I can appreciate a bit of vintage as much as the next man, but that gets a hard 'no' from me. A lot of money for an oversize clock radio that hasn't even any nostalgia value for me.

Not a bad looking unit, but I wouldn't get the use out of it - I can't face brews first thing. Anita had a teasmade years ago. Then she met me, making the teasmade redundant :)
At a car boot I bought one of those old clock radios where the time display is on flip down cards rather than being digital. The mech that changed the cards was knackered, so I intended to fix it but never got round to it and in the end I chucked it out. Probably shouldn't have done as there's one for sale on eBay at £156

This is the one that Marty McFly has by his bed in 'Back To The Future' (Panasonic RC-6015)

Perfect, I could live with that one. Is actually very similar to one I had in the 80s. And I would prefer the 'flip' numbers anyway, I have experienced crappy digital digits disappearing over time.

OK, but why then cite a teasmade in the first place?

You know how many cards there are in those things? That was the main reason I gave up on fixing it. But I wanted one because of 'Back To The Future.'

Well just because my first waking breath doesn't come with a mouthful of tea, I know there will be others for whom it does, so... also, the one I linked to looked to be a bit of a bargain and it was on Ebay, so met the criteria (or is it criterium?)
Can't get started without a brew.
Brew, ciggy, first breakfast, brew, ciggy, second breakfast, brew, ciggy. Then I'm ready to take stock of the day.

Picked one of these up out of curiosity. A fairly scarce AMC 3000 integrated amp in nice condition.
It's really surprised me. As a development of the NAD 3020 I'd expected it to sound decent, but to my ears it's noticeably better and very pleasant to listen to.

Sort of vaguely recall AMC from early 90s. HFW might have reviewed one.
