Lol, it's not me who's the daftee... Read the post in question again:

The service was particularly good because one of my mates from high school (St Mirins/St Margarets in Renfrew Road, only 5 mins away) became a priest, and he ended up marrying us!:)

So quite close to what I'd guessed, and the opposite to how I see some church-goers, thinking a weekly visit to church somehow makes up for being a shithead the rest of the week. :(

Completely agree! The idea is to lead a Christian LIFE, based on the morals you were taught and brought up with, so that means 24/7, 365, not simply paying it lip service by attending church once a week (or in some cases worse), once a year at Christmas:doh:
So yes, some of the worst shitheads are those who hide behind the façade of 'being religious'. The worst, I've found, are the most vocal 'God botherers', preaching to all and sundry about how sinful they are, and trying to convert you to their beliefs, while behind the scenes they're up to all sorts - total hypocrites!
Anyone meeting us for the first time wouldn't know we were religious, or Catholics, as we don't discuss the subject with anyone, unless it's relevant.

And not just leaders, it will go all the way down to the pious little bugger who beats his wife every Saturday.
I can easily get quite vocal about this, having an uncle who was the centre of a child abuse/wife pimping church group, and ruined the lives of his wife and three daughters (my cousins). He's currently serving 23 years for that lot, and will die in prison, the bastard :(
Anyway, best not to dwell on it, Anita is about to give the car a clean, and I will help by keeping out of the way :)

Tomorrow, being the 20th anniversary of 9/11, might just be a day to stay in or at least avoid busy, crowded places and main public transport. I wouldn't put it past some fanatical nut wanting to mark the occasion and security services have no hope of covering all bases.
Went to a weird funeral yesterday seems 'aunty Sheila' wasn't very well liked.
Consensus of opinion was that music for the service should have included 'ding dong the witch is dead' and party poppers were mentioned.

a good few things here are often either out of stock regularly or not now available here. its not disasterous but its getting a bit worse. still water is a hard one. anything in season outwith the locale, especially out of uk like fruit etc.

She says she's tired, after a difficult day with some problem students, so afterwards I'll run her a bath, so she can chillax. Usual routine there too, of course... Just the RIGHT amount of bubbles, with the water at just the RIGHT temperature, and a glass of chilled Prosecco delivered, before I close the bathroom door and leave her to it (face time with pals on her phone) lol!

Lol, indeed. She's generally good with them though, as they think she's 'cool'. She's had umpteen emails from her students who missed her badly when she was off work with Covid. Autistic kids can sometimes be more challenging, though.
However, this is her first week back with students, and it was like some sort of celebrity had walked in the door, with her 'fan club' all going YAY, Del's back!:yay::carrot:
They didn't like her replacement much, as she was no fun, lol. Del plays games with them and all sorts, and just acts like a big kid herself, but at the same time successfully teaches them the required curriculum. That's why she gets results (and is also so highly though of)!

Had my right ear cleaned out the day before yesterday, bloody big lump of very dark wax came out.
I hadn't realised quite how much my hearing had deteriorated. But also, I just feel happier/more active - could just be a psychological effect, but bugger it I feel good :dance:

Well there you go :) 'Living the dream" is a phrase that I never use. We just do what we can with what we have, and be happy with that. Some will gripe and moan about their lot, but like you I tend to avoid them.

Well there you go :) 'Living the dream" is a phrase that I never use. We just do what we can with what we have, and be happy with that. Some will gripe and moan about their lot, but like you I tend to avoid them.

No sign of 'panic buying' here in London, though I did notice several items sold out in my local Co-op (mostly 'ready meals', of which I have little need).
Fortunately we buy all our fruit and veg fresh from a greengrocer, and there are no shortages of any of that to be seen. Meat is always bought fresh from a butcher.
I suspect it is only in supermarkets where people go for the convenience of a "one stop shop", where you will see shortages; and of course with the fulfilment of orders by delivery companies.
I agree on all counts, and our food buying habits are largely the same, so really won't be affected by any shortages. However, until the shortage in CO2 is resolved, look out for pubs running out of beer!:eek:

They blame it all on Covid, but I noticed the trend occurring before the pandemic started.
BTW I had a glass of Staropramen lager; which being a beautiful summer's day here today, slipped down very nicely. :)

Nice... There are so many quality Pils-style continental lagers around, it's hard to choose. Staropramen is one of the better ones, as is Budvar (not Budweiser), which is quite different.
I tend to avoid the 'usual suspects', such as Budweiser, Stella, Becks, Peroni, Grolsch, Moretti, Kronenbourg etc, as they're pale imitations of their real selves, when sold in their country of origin (a bit like sampling Guinness outside of Dublin), and go more leftfield.

Local butcher, home-brew, baking and growing your own is the way to go - it just makes sense in terms of quality, cost, "air -miles" and knowing what is in whatever you are consuming - we've had the industrial revolution with food stuffs, perhaps it is time to get closer to "the old ways" (without scurvy, e-coli etc :lol:)

The Peroni I buy is brewed and bottled in Italy. Moretti, which I haven't tried, is brewed by Heineken in the UK.
It can work the other way however - I used to drink Dutch Oranjeboom lager a lot in the '80s, but when I asked to try the same when I visited Holland I was told it would be disappointed as Oranjeboom export all their best lager to the UK. :doh:

That'll explain my local Sainsburys forecourt being so busy today. Oh well, got a full tank now, that'll do me for two weeks :)
Almost died again this year.
Last year my left carotid artery bas 86% block and if it had not been for a minor TIA I would not have known, surgeon sorted that.
At the beginning of July I went blind in my right eye for about 5 minutes and the cause was my right carotid artery was 99% blocked. Back to the surgeon, all sorted.
Still here.

I had similar. I dragged myself to the GP in a semi-coherent state in 2020 after losing the ability to think, my left carotid had the same as yours. Got carted off in an ambulance and rushed to surgery, I woke up paralysed on the right and with a freshly sewn up six inch incision on my neck. Now largely recovered and due for another blood flow check.

As for fuel, I'lve got enough in the Brabster to last me 2 weeks, when this nonsense will be over, and Del can walk to work. Still no evidence of food shortages here, and if there are, we've got plenty in to last us a month, especially with deliveries of essentials from the dairy every 2 days.

Then I see on Facebook the Police pleading with motorists to stop calling 999 to report they’re stuck in traffic jams as people have been queuing for petrol! FFS, why would you dial 999 for that, over a 100 calls!
So now there’s nowhere to get petrol, and if you genuinely need to fill up, you’re stuffed. So all those who didn’t panic buy won’t be able to go anywhere, schools, hospitals, shops etc.etc. will now have a percentage of staff that won’t be able to get in causing further downward spirals. And how many HGV drivers have to drive to their depots to get to their lorries, to go and collect the fuel to get to the petrol stations that the bunch of cockwombles have hoarded!
I despair, I really do.

these folk cant help themselves. any fear they might not get something and they go buy a dozen of them. The effects may not be immediately noticeable, but gradual and more importantly, expensive to put right. Having said that, my bike gets laid up every winter with whatever E5 fuel is left in, and there has been no problems during my 15 years of ownership. The potential problems may well be exaggerated by those who would profit, namely the manufacturers of fuel stabilizers.
But E10 has double the amount of ethanol, so that could change,

Which reminds me - I recently bought a '6 pack' of loo rolls, all of which appeared to be the usual diameter. However when I took one out to fit on the holder, I noticed the inner cardboard tube was larger than expected - meaning there was less paper on each roll. Lol - I knew you'd pick me up on that! As I said, I was literally passing right in front of it, so given the current situation, it would've been remiss of me not to fill up:)
I've already spoken with the manager of the other Texaco station I use (not the one in Wrexham centre, but in a little village on the outskirts), who, due to idiots panic buying, has already sold his weekly allocation of fuel, and so now is just running the station as a shop, and he informed me that he'll be getting another delivery of fuel on either Tuesday or Wednesday.
I asked if he could call me when it arrives (which he's done before with other stuff), so I could pop down and top up, and that was no problem. Therefore, the human touch pays off again, and demonstrates why I like dealing with PEOPLE, not machines!!;)

Village shop wouldn't accept cash (Covid), fair enough as "staff" are all volunteers and some are quite elderly/at risk. Similar at pub when it has been open - local is quite happy to run a tab and settle by card at end of session.
Supermarkets/garages/on line purchases all with card - even carparks around here have card payment.
I think that the "digital" age is already upon us - although I still buy records :) (possibly digitally mastered though :doh:)
Some shops will not take card payments (they have to pay commission), others will not accept cash. So I usually have a little cash with me, but usually pay with card in the shops I use.

The Covid virus on banknotes thing is a load of bollox, as there are *so* many other things in a shop that the virus could transfer itself to (from the general public), and onto the staff accordingly, making refusing to take cash akin to just pissing in the wind.
Can't say I've ever been anywhere around here that's refused cash - certainly all shops and restaurants accept it, and I don't use car parks very often. However we did use one on Saturday, when we went to the cinema, and it took both - they're nice that way up here:D

Quite right - I know of one "pub"/restaurant locally that only accepts cards (may be first in the country I think), but I would rather tip in cash just to be sure that the person I want to tip actually gets it.

Coincidentally The Boot was the first pub we went to post-lockdown, and I did leave a cash tip. (Great pub actually, been a couple of times this year after trips to Jimmy’s Farm. :) )
I must say, though Marco would hate it, but using Apple Wallet to store my cards has been a revelation - no limit on the amount, no pin, just present my phone, touch the fingerprint reader (or look at it if you have one with face recognition) and it’s done. So much safer than cash or card. Unfortunately the hut at the farm where we get our eggs from is very much cash only though!
Joking aside, I believe some buskers are now getting contactless receivers, as so many less of us carry cash. Smart move.

All superficially laudable reasons, but IMO, it sets a dangerous precedent. Whilst cash is still widely accepted, and you have cash in your pocket, YOU are in control of your money, not the bank, or whoever controls the bank's computer.
Think about what could happen, if/when the former were no longer the case...

Well that’s true, but I have very little option but to rely on the banking system for the twenty odd Direct Debits and Standing Orders that are set up, so in reality, all I could do is withdraw my “disposable income” in cash. I used to carry a sizeable amount (around £100 at least) but having had my wallet stolen twice and lost once, with the last time my contactless cards being used for multiple small purchases, I’m grateful for the biometric security I now have. I’d rather trust the bank’s computer systems (and that’s saying something from an IT Manager in the Financial Services sector! :lol: ) than some toe rag who thieves or finds my wallet... but I do get your point.
Lol, and I totally get yours. However, you and I have very different lifestyles, and therefore different financial habits/behaviour. My lifestyle (semi-retired, no debts, few things to pay) probably allows me to do things that yours simply couldn't facilitate.

My smartphone is actually a company one, so I only really use it for work emails aside from it being a phone to take and make calls with, and aside from checking the weather and sport when I’m out and about, that’s about it. I do however use my iPad an awful lot now, but as a laptop replacement. I used to have a laptop in the living room but decided to stop that, as I always ended up surfing instead of watching the program or film on the telly... iPad handy to have in the kitchen for recipes, this place, (Tapatalk) and a bit of other stuff, but actually, I’m not that wedded to technology/gadgets, I get enough of that stuff with my job.
Fair enough, but your job is a major part of your life, and so controls many aspects of it accordingly. One of the things I dislike most about modern living is how employers expect you to be 'connected' (or effectively available and at their beck and call), almost 24/7.
Gone are the days when, if your boss or manager wanted something from you, he or she would have to wait until the following morning when you came into work. Now they just email or text you at anytime of the day or night and expect you to act upon any instructions given!:rolleyes:
Similarly, gone are the days when whatever time you finished work, was when you FINISHED work - now for your employer, your (unpaid overtime) services are simply a few clicks away - and that's all down to technology and how controlling it can be, along with a massive intrusion on what should be your free time.
Anyway, mate, I realise that you do what you have to do to survive. Just pointing out that technology has much to answer, as well as be praised for:)

Well in my case, it’s very much swings and roundabouts- yes to a lot of what you have said, but many employers, my own included, are very supportive with wellbeing and mental health/stress and flexible if needed. (One of the few benefits of the COVID-19 pandemic is that I think this has improved in a lot of companies.). I actually prefer to “keep my finger on the pulse” outside of my “official” hours, but my job is slightly different to a lot I guess.
We’re all different and thankfully so, it’s really only a problem if you’re forced into a position you don’t want to be in.
Indeed so, although I think a lot of the stress/mental health issues are brought on by the conditions people have to work under these days, and the amount of hours they're forced to work. There was no need for such 'support' when I was working, as in general the demands placed upon you and the pressure you were put under on a daily basis was less.
I can't comment on how it is where you work, but what I've said is so often the case now, leading to a rather unhealthy work/life balance, and it can cause problems in your personal relationships, especially if you have young kids [the 'daddy's never here, but always at work' syndrome], and they suffer for it, whether you realise it or not.
I think you do a remarkable job in that respect, btw, balancing work with the quality time you spend with Sue and the kids. However, in general work dominates too many people's lives these days and seems to be the main focus of their existence. For example, when you get together to socialise with friends, who also all have demanding jobs, how much of the time does the conversation revolve around work?;)
When instead you should be leaving that aside, switching off, and concentrating on enjoying yourself and talking about *anything else* BUT work! That is, if you (as in 'one') have a life worthy of the name outside of such, and you were actually TALKING to each other at all, instead of everyone simply being glued to their phones like zombies...:doh:

From Sky News, an industry report suggests "the fuel situation seems to be stabilising and there are signs shortages may be ending". I said it would be over by Wednesday. All caused by the media stirring up panic buying!
Also, the RAC say they are dealing with fourteen times as many breakdowns due to drivers running out of fuel. What kind of idiots just keep driving until they run out of juice? There must be a lot of them. Bonkers!

Just been out for a mooch around, first time in over a week. The local Heston Road Shell service station is quiet and selling fuel, the Shell station at Gillette Corner on the A4 has queues and Tesco round the corner in Syon Lane also has queues. So we're not back to 'normal' yet. Good job I don't need juice.
My local friendly, family-run, filling station phoned earlier (as arranged) and informed me that they'd had a fuel delivery in, so off I popped, and filled up. No stress, no drama:)
That's me got a full tank now, so won't be going near another filling station until this pish is over!

Went over to Much Menlock, no queue at the service station.
Sign said £40 max but only put £30 in as didn't need more, I have about 3/4 of a tank.
The government's reserve tanker fleet was being deployed on Wednesday afternoon to boost fuel deliveries, the business secretary said.
Civilians were driving the trucks from their depots in Cambridgeshire and West Yorkshire, Kwasi Kwarteng said.
He has also said soldiers would be delivering fuel in the coming days.
The fuel industry said the situation at the pumps "has begun to improve" and it was working with the government to maintain regular deliveries of fuel.
The joint statement, from 14 companies including Shell UK, BP and Esso, comes after days of long queues at petrol stations.
It said: "We remain confident that the situation will stabilise further in the coming days and encourage everyone to fill up as they normally would to help forecourts return to normal."
The industry statement also said there had "always been plenty of fuel at our refineries and terminals" and welcomed the deployment of the reserve tanker fleet.
Mr Kwarteng admitted the situation had been "difficult" but denied there was a crisis in UK fuel supplies.
Ministers have decided to deploy troops to drive tankers in "the next couple of days", he said, in addition to the civilians driving them from Wednesday.
Some 150 military drivers are ready to drive the fuel tankers, with another 150 Army personnel ready to support them.
The Petrol Retailers Association (PRA) said there were "encouraging signs" the pressure was starting to ease at the pumps, with forecourts taking further fuel deliveries.

IME, everything has become more expensive or more difficult to obtain, plus longer to get hold of. Del sent a parcel to her cousin in Germany the other day that would normally have cost £3.50, and was now over £7.
I bought some cables on Ebay recently from Poland, which would've normally arrived in a few days, and instead took 3 WEEKS - all because of delays relating to Brexit. And now, largely because of the same (Brexit) we've got a fuel crisis because of a lack of drivers, due mainly to Polish drivers, who made up a large percentage of the workforce, leaving and going elsewhere.
I don't give a flying fuck for any supposed highfalutin benefits for the fat cats or the big shots of this world, for leaving the EU, *only* what affects MY life (and I'm sure others like me feel the same) on a daily basis, and since leaving the EU, all I've experienced so far is greater expense and inconvenience!!:doh::rolleyes:

This is mostly due to the pandemic and the consequent massive increase in people wanting stuff delivered.
Anyone from the EU who was driving a lorry here could have stayed and continued, it wasn't like they had to go home. I suspect a lot did due to the pandemic, not Brexit.
It was the EU's decision to cancel the customs union, we were happy to stay in it. So blame them for adding VAT to your shipment to Poland.

I wasn't talking about VAT. I was complaining about the inordinate amount of time the cables took to arrive, compared with before, and when I mentioned it to the seller, he assured me that the delays were to do with Brexit and how that was impacting on stuff arriving in the UK from Europe.
The cables left Poland and arrived here quickly enough, but took longer to get through UK customs and be delivered than when I get stuff from China!!
Plus, who's fault is then that sending goods to Europe now costs more than double what it did before when we were in the EU? Over £7 to send a little parcel to Germany. Bloody ridiculous.

Delay in your parcel would be Polish customs. Also the reduction in air travel due to the pandemic means less flights to put shipments on so it might have been sat around for a while awaiting its turn.
Obviously pre-Brexit the parcel would not have needed to have been processed by Polish customs, increase in price will be Polish VAT at 23% plus all shipping prices have gone up since Covid.

For me personally it hasn't really made any difference at all. Except they took the EU Swastika down from the flagpole outside of work. That was a good day.
I don't think it's anything to do with Brexit, no. Not unless the Americans, Germans and Chinese all had Brexit too.
I already said that shipping costs have gone up due to the pandemic as demand for air freight has massively outstripped supply.
It's funny that we have a global pandemic that has massively affected every aspect of everything in the world and yet people are still claiming 'It's Brexit!'.
