it was a mate's band so not really surprising. They used to be an Iron Maiden tribute act but they decided the songs were too hard to play so this is their new direction.
It was a biker rally. I don't realise that biker chicks still existed in this day and age but they do.

sort of agree but they've all got day jobs. They did this for free as it was charity event for British Heart Foundation.
If you want to do your own stuff you need a good songwriter so doing a tribute is a good way to have a bit of fun without having to take it seriously.

In London today visiting art galleries, brought cash as I lost my bankcard, and it was almost impossible to buy some food, looks like cash will be finished soon for good. Tate Britain is amazing, much better than Tate modern which is always packed, on weekends anyway.

We had a good run of Glastonbury's in the first half of the 90s, despite the human excrement and tent thieves, but after Oasis got big it all went a bit mental. Huge capacity, ever-increasing ticket prices, and a real commercial vibe to it all.
Anyone who has never been and is just watching it on telly may be blissfully ignorant of the reality, which is down there under the crowd's feet (don't even think about sitting down), and the thousands-strong push across the fields, with the five bar gate-wide bottlenecks when everybody leaves to go to another stage. It was chaos then and I don't imagine it's got any better.
Attending one now would probably end me, though if I could just watch it from the comfort of a straw bale with Lauren Laverne, maybe...

No druids there. The bloke nearest the camera may be contemplating his navel, or he might just be having a piss. The rest are just enjoying the novelty of witnessing a sunrise - they don't normally get out of their pits till noon.

No me neither. I had a look around a submarine in dock one time but if they'd said 'Right we're diving now' I'd have been out of there faster than a rat up a drainpipe.
I've seen lots of submarine films and none of them end well.

Thing is, if the submersible is being used in international waters its use isn't regulated and doesn't come under anyone's jurisdiction. Of course that won't stop the families from going after them.

I'd been following this. When they said it hadn't surfaced following communications loss, I had the feeling they were done for. It was apparently designed to jettison ballast weights and surface automatically in an emergency.

Perhaps the sub implosion was all part of the 'fully immersive Titanic experience'? I can't even get into a lift, honestly, I walk up 10 flights of stairs rather than get into an enclosed box. What's the point of going down to the sea bed to look at wrecks anyway? It's downright creepy. You can see anything on TV these days, but some people just have a taste for extremes, probably the £250K price tag made it feel super exclusive, therefore it must be 'the ultimate' something or other.

I'm a bit inconsistent when it comes to using lifts. If the lift is small (such as those installed in old Victorian or Edwardian buildings that have been converted to flats), or is crowded, then I will decline to use it. Otherwise I'm not too troubled.
If you do a fair bit of travelling and use railways and/or airports, you only have limited option when it comes to luggage.

When the police arrived he shot at them too so I don't think it was personal.

That submersible thing again - just been reading that the youth was bricking it and didn't want to go but felt he should as it was for father's day.

yes it seems to be just rolled on all in same direction, which wont help it much, but over time fibre is inclined to lose its strength too. the titanium, of which there isnt much is just glues on for a seal really.. that is bound to be affected too. innovation is one thing, but this was cutting corners to meet a price and make money.

that bit didnt look great did it?. i guess as long as glue doesnt give way its at least being held in place by pressure. film guy Cameron, has been saying folk there think it had already dropped its skids and was going up fast... not sure how they/he could say that tho without pulling up most of it.

this is info you need before you can make a call imo. apparently it has a separate pressure chamber with a gps tagger or suchlike and its own power supply. now afaik both went at same time suggesting it just collapsed.
there was a mythbusters where they did a pig parts in a pressure suit at only 130 psi and it wasnt nice. obviously it wasnt instant due to the way it was done but it crushed everything really. so im guessing it was miliseconds and you wouldnt notice it; it would just happen

Russian troops are digging trenches across their M4 motorway and other routes to slow the Wagner advance. If Russia had made their M6 into a smart motorway like our M6, there would be no need to dig trenches - the contraflows and 50mph limits enforced by average speed cameras would be enough to slow the Wagner advance.

3000 metres when they lost contact I think so three quarters of the way down. Supposedly last signal was that they were aborting and coming back up.

This is why the public sector is such a safe job, if you're worried you're running out of things to do, there's always a new government round the corner who'll get you to reverse everything you've done for the last 5/10/15 years.

Yeah they bloody well ought to. But I saw it reported that there will be no more smart motorways started, the plans have been shelved. They'll just finish the ones they started.
Travelling north up the M6 today, there had been a crash at the Sandbach junction in Cheshire. It was absolute chaos, my phone sat nav saying get into the 4th lane as it is the only one working, the car sat nav saying come of at the junction.
I felt sorry for the driver of the attending fire engine, who must have been cursing the lack of hard shoulder as he tried to thread his ten foot wide bulk through four lanes of stationary traffic. I bet the car was a burned out shell by the time he arrived.
It was so bad it made rail travel look like an attractive option.
I saw a few car fires on my way round northern Britain last week. Maybe it is the hot weather or the fact folk are hanging onto old wrecks for longer as cost of living bites!? I fear it is only going to get worse and if you get caught in the wrong position on a "smart" motorway.:uhho:

My first ever visit to Cardiff yesterday. Really nice place, I'll go back there for a weekend. But I think my intestines had a lucky escape last night.
Food stalls at the Rag 'n' Bone Man gig at Cardiff Castle yesterday evening were asking criminally high prices (five quid for a fag packet-size tray of pseudo-chips), so I decided we could hold out till we got outside.
Across from the exit was a fried chicken takeaway. Ideal. But I did notice one of the chicken pieces was a bit of an odd shape, and I commented to Anita that it looked like a chicken's arse. But I was so hungry that I was three bites into it before I noticed it actually smelled like shit. Literally. The bloke behind the counter didn't seem surprised by my complaint, and offered to replace it. but I'd lost my appetite by then.
When we got back to the hotel Anita found online reviews where words like ancient chicken and food poisoning came up frequently.
I went to bed last night fully expecting to be spending the wee small hours on the bog, but to my surprise I was fresh as a daisy, enough to take a 7am walk round Cardiff city centre. Sitting outside a coffee shop watching the city setting off to work is a simple pleasure I could get used to.
I had the worst food poisoning episode of my life in Wales. Decided to have octopus at a restaurant near Harlich whilst sharing a caravan with some friends. As you know the chemical toilet walls are very thin so the ensuing violent flood from every orifice was heard in high resolution by the others in the van all night.
Next day they felt worst than I did!:)

Breakfast was one of those Kellog breakfast bars and half a bar of Lindt extra-creamy. At weekend would usually be crunchy nut cornflakes followed by waffles with butter and maple syrup (the proper stuff not that fake crap). But no time for that on a work morning.

Lunch - burger with cheese and fried onions. I don't always have a burger, yesterday it was pizza and Wed thru to Friday it'll be oatcakes with bacon and cheese.
Usually I'd have some chocolate biscuits mid- afternoon and some more - with cups of tea ofc - about five oclock when the office empties out. No time today plus the biccies had run out.
Get home, pint of full-fat milk
Not had me tea yet. I usually eat about nine, nothing heavy. Cheese and crackers, salami, maybe a yogurt and a chocolate mousse for afters. Usually have a bit of chocolate before bed too.

I tend not to like what most may regard as 'unhealthy' food.
A friend of mine has a pretty stressful and busy occupation. He doesn't seem to have time to eat proper meals and lives on chocolate bars during the day.
He may manage a burger of some description, but has very little vegetables in his diet. I'm sure he is overweight - but he is aware of his poor eating habits and intends to improve the situation. We shall see.
Emergency supplies are being airlifted in this morning so no need to panic.
What gets me is the company supplies free fruit but not free biscuits. Sign of the times I suppose. I sometimes have a satsuma but in general my body rejects healthy food.Mine does too. A little occasionally.
Tbh it's not keen on a lot of stuff now. Fortunately whisky isn't one of them. Potatoes are good too. Chicken is my go to meat.

The usual story, fatherless family, 'kids a saint' and all that. Look at the London riots of 2011, the kid was a known gangster (Duggan), but it still caused riots. It's all a cultural thing, black, Asian and white kids all idolising the gangster lifestyle, and all have this bullshit victim mentality that they;re hard done by. Then you get these Lefty fucking morons supporting them. The West is falling apart in many ways, your kid goes to school these days, and the teachers change his/her gender, its a joke! I wonder how long before civil war in Europe and America - where it's even worse. The trouble is there seems to be no one willing to take charge, the politicians are scared stiff of the Lefty Woke mob, why they're so powerful is beyond me, cos they don't represent the majority view. Why these young mothers insist on having children out of wedlock is beyond me, the benefits blanket should be swept from under their lazy ass feet. The M6 has been closed after a large quantity of milk spilled onto the carriageway when a tanker crashed.
It hit the central reservation while travelling north between junctions 31 and 32 near Preston at about 07:00 BST and then crashed through into the southbound carriageway.
Lancashire Police said the motorway could be closed for "most of the day" after the milk and diesel spillage.
The Chief Constable of Lancashire Constabulary has had to do without his crunchy nut cornflakes

I was in that traffic queue. Although the accident had happened some time earlier in the day, nobody had thought to warn us of this on the overhead thingys so that we could decide to come off at the next exit.
After an hour and a half of not going anywhere, Mrs. P got sick of it. So she got herself over to the hard shoulder, got onto the 'on' ramp of the junction and went up it the wrong way. The ramp was closed off with cones at the top, so we weren't going to meet anything coming the other way. She'd started a trend, because behind us was a convoy of other cars doing the same thing.
All the other routes into Preston would have been a nightmare, so instead of getting my granddaughter's birthday present to her, we went to the pub for some nosebag instead.
I'll be driving past there in half an hour, hopefully they'll have got their shit together by then.
I might give up motorways entirely soon and go back to the A roads. We did this on holiday and only put half an hour on our journey. No hold ups and much more relaxed and I could drive mostly at 50 mph which is the same speed for much of the motorway network in this country.:)

I've been doing that for a long time. Years ago I got stuck on the M5 near Bristol for ages and decided motorways were no longer for me.

The problem with motorways are numerous as I have found using them extensively throughout my life but recently I have noticed they have got far worse either through more traffic or use of smart motorways. Traffic is restricted to a certain speed very regularly on these between 40-60 mph. Add in the amount of roadworks on any given motorway, then incidents which can be absolutely nothing or a major accident plus bad weather and the whole recipe is a disaster. I can't remember one motorway journey in the past 2 years that has not gone without incident!
The stress and boredom of motorways is also another negative factor. The only positive factor I can think of is they may get you from A to B EVENTUALLY.
Because of all the accumulative "problems" on motorways the average speed now seems to be about 55mph so the A roads start to look a much better proposition and are far more interesting, relaxing and stress free!
dont have much motorway up here tbh, but like everywhere else, if there is a problem your stuck with it. i dont drive much and 95% of that is not in the rush, so can pick n choose. electric car prefers not to run at 70+ anyway so a rds are fine

There were only three or four cones there, which we easily drove round. It was actually no problem to turn left at the top of the slip road. Worked out well. Although yes, it was breaking the law.
But then again so were the hoards of blokes walking across the carriageway to piss on the grassy verges in full view of everyone. And I wasn't about to do that.

We did the same driving back from Ayr last year, when the M6 was closed near Penrith. The A roads provided a scenic alternative, saw places we didn't know existed, and even with a half hour stop at a roadside cafe (a lot cheaper than motorway services), our journey was less than an hour more.

Went to do a biggish shop at Lidl earlier. Not much cheaper than elsewhere these days, it seems. Time was you could fill your trolley and the checkout girl would give you money to take it away.
After all that effort, this for tea should make up for it:

Loath white chocolate. Only eat plain chocolate with 70% cocoa solids. Any chocolate with more than 80% cocoa tastes bitter to me.

When I got home at 1pm it was the hot topic on Sky News. Two hours later they were still bangin' on about it. How they could fill two hours of telly with out naming the presenter, the 'victim', or even what the pictures were of I don't know. Maybe I should have turned the volume up. And I bet if I switched over to Sky News now they'd still be milking the story.

Is it not just their own brand that they rename to make you think it's not? Sainsbury's and Tesco's started doing the same thing when they realised Lidl and Aldi were gaining market share by doing it.

You get cases of companies as diverse as car manufacturers and Makita/DeWalt/Milwaukee taking products manufactured for them by other firms and putting their name on them. "Badge engineering" they call it. This would be the opposite of that.
In any case, the fruit & nut bar wasn't much cop. The chocolate itself was fine, but the nuts were like something I might find in my own garden, after it had passed through some of the local wildlife.

yes, up to a point.. but some folk get a third i think. vast majority only get the 2 as kids and thats it. if you do cach mumps then it shouldnt be as severe

Spent a rainy hour or so in a local record shop, after which I was losing the will to live - not much could be accessed without risking an avalanche. And barely room to get past the piles by moving sideways. So not wheelchair-friendly. Unless your wheelchair was a standing-up unicycle hybrid.
Finally settled on a NM copy of Sabbath's "Technical Ecstasy", which I have never heard. But I had parked at the Asda across the road, where the signs said "Customers only". So I went in the store and bought a 2 quid bar of chocolate. That should validate my parking to a degree, but I didn't want to push it.
Called at a mate's house on the way back for a brew, and left my chocolate on the front seat of the car. I underestimated the in-car temperature, so returned to a £2 chocolate blob :( Bloody British weather.
On the plus side you got a half-decent Sabbath album.

afaik that isnt what happened. she was told and many felt she should go quickly but she didnt think it was a good idea at time.. she apparently regretted her decision ever since.

Record shops are pants, I don't miss them one bit. Overpriced stock and in shitty condition, there might be exceptions, new vinyl is shite too. Ebay absolutely rules for me, money back guarantee is excellent. I reckon the ones in the US are different though, so much stock, must be more competitively priced.

Paul Young was just on BBC News, not heard much about him for a while. One of the better pop acts of his time I guess. He's well in his sixties now and definitely has a proper boozer's face by the look of him, mind you the hair seems to be doing well, is it transplanted? :)

I saw Paul Young in about 1987 when he was supporting Genesis at Leeds Roundhay Park. His voice was knackered then - maybe he was just having a bad day, I don't know. I think even in those days before autotune was a thing, the studio could still polish a turd, but no hiding it when your voice has to fill a giant space. He was already known for liking a bevy or two.
Seems he got his act together and got better with his singing. But I think the fags and booze had already done for his face.
As for Paul's hair - it's amazing what you can do with a leftover bit of Astroturf and a tin of Cherry Blossom :)

Bit of a painful start to the week. First, a wasp which had landed on the back of my arm decided, with no prompting from me, to leave me a parting gift before buggering off. No need!
I'd read somewhere that they are attracted to perfumey smells like deodorants, and it was a couple of inches from me armpit. So contrary to the advertised claims, Sure will let you down :( I think I'll go smelly and sweaty for what's left of the summer.
Then later I used my impact driver to send a large woodscrew into my little finger. That bled a lot, and is still throbbing. Got a giant plaster round it now, so I can't bend it. Drinking tea like a posh person...
Tomorrow I'm back up on my mate's roof doing repairs. What could possibly go wrong? Though they do say things come in threes :doh:

Last night I had another of a recurring dream (3 or 4 times this year) where I am really good at skateboarding. A psychiatrist would probably say it's a midlife (or more likely late in life) crisis. I'd go along with that if it was something I regret letting passing me by, like surfing or learning to play piano, but skateboarding? Not on your nelly.

What you eat can affect dreams. Some cheeses apparently influence this, as can mushrooms (they can contain trace amounts of hallucinogens). Medications and herbal 'remedies' may have some effect on dreaming (don't try Skullcap). So can booze.

You did the right thing, immediate retribution is the only answer. Getting the police involved is as ineffectual as just shrugging it off, and just puts you in the frame for prime suspect if you later decide to sort things yourself.
Long term you might consider moving away from Brighton, which seems to have no redeeming qualities.
