She’s cute, definitely, but she’s no Kylie... ;)
Not even in the same league.
Ha - have to totally disagree! Different strokes [literally:eyebrows:] for different folks...
I guess I just prefer sultry Latin/European types, or British. Not keen on Ozzie accents either. Plus, I dislike obvious mainstream choices with these things and prefer to look more leftfield:)
Marco.
Brilliant dog walk this morning. Walking across a beet field we disturbed a hare, Tia (staff/boxer cross) chased it for about half a mile, bloody good going considering that she is possibly twelve years old.
A little further on our walk and some highland cattle (local reservoir has put a few of them on their land) bellowed at Tia, so there followed a few minutes of her trying to outstare this bloody big bovine.
Just so good having a dog and being lucky enough to have countryside/wildlife/farm animals on our doorstep :)
Indeed mate, as is the slightly 'coy' look, but really only when SHE wants you to think that, in order to get her own way... I find that incredibly alluring and cute. Anyway, I can always rely on you for good taste... Mind you, I'm not exactly 'slumming it' with Del, am I?;)
Audrey Tautou is best known for her role in the award-winning French film, Amélie. She was much younger then, though.

And you call me fussy! Oh and all the pics you've provided so far are "obvious mainstream choices", nothing leftfield there. I haven't checked, but I'm betting they are all in FHM's top 100.

I f***ing hate Gregg Wallace
I had to look up who he is - yep, waste of space.
Currently getting pissed off with the number of "celebrities " hosting programs about their "favourite places". Usually involving them in an all expenses paid jolly to somewhere exotic for which they get paid thousands of pounds "wages"
I f***ing hate Gregg Wallace
Then there's his mate (not as big a cock as Gregg but still a cock) Chris Bavin, the look on Mary Berry's face when he was talking on one of those celebrities cooking shite programmes said it all.

I f***ing hate Gregg Wallace
Lol - why?:D
I'm afraid I can't get 'worked up' about any TV 'celebrity', in terms of either love or hate. No-one really bothers me that much, just not wired that way:)
GW seems fairly harmless to me. Respect though on his recent (massive) weight loss.
Oh and as a serious foodie, I love (good) cookery programmes, and also quite a few dramas on BBC, not to mention Match of the Day, and the antiques/upcycling shows, The Repair Shop, yadda yadda!:ner:;)
Marco
Lol - why?:D
His so obviously false bonhomie, his forced amiability, his so patronising presentation style, especially in 'eat well for less'. I can't believe how long this programme has run, how many times do you need to be told supermarkets own brands are cheaper and usually as good if not better than the big named brands. Of course you can replicate a takeaway meal using your own ingredients cheaper than ordering out but that's missing the point. It's a treat and saves you having to cook.
I've no respect for his opinion on contestants meals in Masterchef, he has no qualifications as a gourmet and his forays into the restaurant business failed. His weight has been up and down like a whore's drawers and I've no doubt he'll be roly poly Gregg again before long. There are far better presenters out there who know far more about their subject and who don't have such a false, abrasive manner who just don't get the gigs that Gregg does.
So, apart from that he's ok?:D:eyebrows:
Marco.
So, apart from that he's ok?:D:eyebrows:
Marco.
Yeah, I'd go for a beer with him ;)
Lol - I getcha:eyebrows:
My only comment would be [and this isn't specifically in defence of GW] that you don't need any 'qualifications as a gourmet' to know what good food is, or what qualifies as the 'gourmet' variety; one only needs to have travelled and eaten well, studied food to degree, and therefore amassed an appropriate level of culinary knowledge;)
It's a bit like with food critics - many of them couldn't cook for toffee, but as serious foodies have 'honed' their palates accordingly on years of fine-dining, and therefore are in a position to be critical judges of food:)
Or another analogy - you don't need to be a talented footballer to be a great manager, etc...
Marco.

Specific to GW I don't believe for one moment that he's 'studied food to degree, and therefore amassed an appropriate level of culinary knowledge' or ''honed' his palate accordingly on years of fine-dining'.
Where food critiquing is concerned I have far more respect for those in a position to offer informed criticism about flavours and textures and who know how to get these right.
Well, you may be right, Roy, but unless you know his culinary background and experience with food, for a fact (rather than merely making an assumption), in my view it would be unfair to judge.
As formally a greengrocer, he'll certainly know all about fresh fruit and veg!:)

Marco.
In 2010, Wallace opened the restaurant Wallace & Co in the London district of Putney, where he served as one of the directors.
In 2012, he opened Gregg's Bar & Grill in a joint venture with the Bermondsey Square Hotel in Bermondsey Square. In August 2013, it was reported that one of Wallace's companies, West Veg Limited, had folded, owing more than £500,000. In 2014, both of his restaurants folded, with Wallace & Co owing suppliers £150,000.
That just proves he's a shite businessman, not that he knows fuck all about food!:ner:;)

As I said, I simply can't get 'worked up' about any TV celeb, pop or film star, or whatever. I don't care enough about any of them, to warrant showing any such emotion. Plus, hate, for me, is a strong word, and so needs properly justifying.
Therefore, unless someone's done something nasty to me, or someone I cared about, I'd find it hard to hate them, least of all some vacuous, no-mark, so-called 'TV celebrity' I've never met and know nothing really about:)

I certainly would - the culmination of PC absurdity. Its bad enough new parents not wishing to identify the gender of their newborn by refering to it as "they"! They're too thick to realise "they" is third person plural; the correct gender-neutral singular pronoun would be "it".

If I found myself in conversation with such a person I would be referring to everyone else in the third person plural - it would confuse "them" no end, and hopefully they would then realise they are just being a dick.

''If someone refused to use a preferred pronoun — and it was determined to constitute discrimination or harassment — could that potentially result in jail time?
It is possible, Brown says, through a process that would start with a complaint and progress to a proceeding before a human rights tribunal. If the tribunal rules that harassment or discrimination took place, there would typically be an order for monetary and non-monetary remedies. A non-monetary remedy may include sensitivity training, issuing an apology, or even a publication ban, he says''
I've no idea what 'sensitivity training' might entail but then it's been a while since I last read '1984'. I'm guessing the people who think these laws are a good idea have never read it.

No not quite
The ferula was a piece of whalebone about a foot long covered with hard rubber so that it presented a flat surface about two inches across. In practice this was given in doses of between 3 and 12 strokes although in theory it could go a high as 18, which was always called 'Twice Nine'.
All punishment was given in the 'Ferula Office' by the discipline master. If a boy was judged in class to deserve punishment, for misconduct, laziness or just a poor result in a test, the class teacher would write him a bill, a slip of paper saying how many strokes he was to get and why. This would need to be countersigned by the Lower/Middle/Upper School master and then within 24 hours he had to turn up at the Ferula Office for his punishment.
Funny how what we used to consider perfectly normal and commonplace 40 years ago would now result in jail time.
The thinking behind this system was humane (if you had to have corporal punishment at all). It ensured that boys were never beaten in anger. The countersigning ensured a sort of 'peer review' by a fellow teacher (although in practice this was meaningless) and the ferula itself, being flat, was much less likely to cause an injury than was a cane.[/I]

cool.. mine was via this which is probably similar ..Latin ferula (“giant fennel (whose stalks were once used in punishing schoolboys); rod, whip”), from ferire (“to strike”).
wouldnt have been normal at my school. belting was common but not the cane; it would have got you in real trouble. in fact one teacher did hit a boy with one once and he got in real trouble. suspended and threatened with court and loss of job. once i reached 2/3 yaer i didnt take belt of any of them. if they tried it on then i'd defend myself..i once flung the pt teacher in swimming pool for trying to push me around:D he complained bitterly to rector, who asked me nicely not to be so rough... all he wanted was trophies for his display, which i gave him, so i got to do what i liked within reason.

I only had it once, 3 on each hand, can't remember what for but I think whatever it was I was not guilty. By my day they'd dispensed with the 'peer review' bit, you just went out into the corridor to get it. It hurt but was better than being punched in the head or similar which some would do. Had the cane in primary school for 'running' - now that did wreck, six strokes on the back of the legs, on a cold day, short trousers, that really stung. Of course even at seven years old it was a point of honour that you didn't flinch or indeed give any indication that you were at all bothered by it.
I never had corporal punishment.
My mate (Mario) and I were taken to the head's office when we were at primary (about '67/68) and the head was apoplectic. I still remember clearly his red face and his shouting at us that if he had his way he would be using his cane to teach us a lesson, but that he was no longer allowed to, as it had been banned only a few weeks previously.
Our punishment was no break times for a week, our "crime" - throwing snowballs at a passing double decker bus as we walked in to school.

our "crime" - throwing snowballs at a passing double decker bus as we walked in to school.
That was very naughty!
:)
Was walking home from school with some mates on a snowy day, one dropped behind us without being noticed and stated chucking snowballs at our backs. We chucked a couple back and one youth says to him 'I dare you to chuck one at this car that's coming.' So he turns round and lobs one at this bright green Capri that's tooling up the road towards us and it impacts right on the windscreen.
The Capri screeches to a halt and this enormous bloke - he must have been a weightlifter or something - jumps out screaming, bright red in the face, and starts legging the youth up the road. We shot off in the other direction thinking that if he couldn't catch him he'd come back for us, but we were laughing so hard we could hardly run.
yeah back in day when you did get a lot of good snow every year it was fairly common toss them at cars etc. buses were a safer bet tho. if car driver caught you he would give you a doing too and often did. nowadays the driver would as you say, get jailed, but then if you told parents they would give you another doing so nowt was said and you learned not to do it; or run faster
Running away from a potential beating was an essential skill in those days.
That same youth got into all sorts of scrapes as he always wanted to be popular so he'd never refuse a dare. It would always work out spectacularly badly for him, but he never learned.
No idea what he's doing now, probably Chairman of ICI or something.

That must have died out by my day, don't recall anyone ever having a catapult. I was in detention once and they set some youth's polyester blazer on fire with a magnifying glass. It really went up too. he was running around yelling and trying to get it off. That was pretty funny.

We all had Milbro catapults as kids, they were great. And I became really accurate with mine. I have looked from time to time on Ebay for a genuine original, out of nostalgia They start at about £20, and I would buy one tomorrow, but Mrs. P already thinks I'm mental.
we used to make catapults with suitable "y" shaped branches - eventually, I saved up enough pocket money to buy an aluminium one and was very close to taking my eye out when I let go of the wrong end
Also used to make boomerangs with ply wood and gave my mate a nasty gash on his forehead (a few stitches) when I hit him with it.
We also used to fire "Dan Dare" rockets (very small rockets for Bonfire night, any one else remember them?) through a piece of TV aerial (two wood pegs as handles) at a neighbours pigeons.
And what do kids do today, play video games - when I was a lad...........:wheniwasaboy:
We used to have adventure playgrounds where you were given a hammer and nails and bits of timber and then go to build any structure you wanted, Climb conker trees to a great height, go scrumping, pop up to the chip shop and ask for free scraps, do penny for the guy, carol singing, we only had a black and white telly, no phone, and the windows used to freeze up on the inside every year. Great times when I look back.

I know what you mean though, times are definitely worse now. Ruined by scaremongering, political correctness bulls*it, and namby pambies who fence off / close / cancel everything that's not 100% wrapped in cotton wool and antibiotic'd to hades. It's a crap world to grow up in.

Yeah. My grand-daughters always seemed happy enough. In their early/mid teens now and just about grown up. The lockdowns don't seem to faze them, but they are single minded and independant, so adjust well to things.
its a more dangerous world today of course and thus the extra protections most parents feel they need. but to overcover their kids can be bad too. The interweb, as amazing and useful as it is, is also a minefield for kids and parents.
i mean when i was a kid the sum of warnings we got were dont go off with strange men and dont get into a strangers car unless you intend stealing it;)

Thing is folks go on and on about stuff being fenced off, shut down etc. the real reason that we all seem to be wrapped in cotton wool these days isn't because the powers that be are concerned about our welfare but about little Johnny's mum taking him to court because little Johnny was playing where he shouldn't and hurt himself. The simple fact is back when we were kids if you hurt yourself playing regardless of where it was it was your fault, whereas now we have adopted the American blame culture so that every accident is someone else's fault

Lol - I was more into air rifles (and when I was old enough) shotguns!:D
No, my dad and I used to hunt rabbits on the local farm, so bought me my first 20-bore shotgun (a Beretta) when I was 15, and it was great fun, plus plinking tin cans with air rifles and pistols in the back garden, and using paper bullseyes for target practice. Got pretty good at it, and won some trophies (as did he) at our local shooting club.
That was when I wasn't out riding my bike or playing footy in the local park with my mates, etc. I was certainly never short of things to do, and unlike kids today, didn't need 'entertainment laid on' for me (I made my own entertainment), or moaned about 'being bored'... Most need a damn good slap and a wake-up call!:rolleyes:
Marco.
its a more dangerous world today of course and thus the extra protections most parents feel they need.
I know what you mean, but I'm not convinced in reality is is; perhaps more the perception we're given, and the fact that we're just more aware of the dangers now (because of available technology), than we once were - so the dangers were always there, just that they went more unnoticed.
I mean, paedos were rife in the 60s and 70s - look at all the evidence that's come out since about horrific child abuse that took place during those eras in particular [I mean would someone like Saville get away now with what he did then? I doubt it], so I don't really buy the assertion that today's world is in *actuality* any more dangerous - we're just much more aware of said dangers, and they're also perhaps a little different, that's all:)
Marco.
Lol... Out of interest, what year/era are you describing, Paul?
I'm pretty sure we had a colour TV from around the early 70s, simply because I can remember watching Dr Who (and John Pertwee) in colour, and we always had a phone in the hallway. We had central heating and (Everest) double glazing installed in the late 70s, so no frozen windows, and even before that I always had s small 'Dimplex' electric heater in my bedroom, so the room was never that cold, plus a coal fire in the lounge:)
And as for chippies, my dad had two of his own!:D

No doubt you had a stack of your own "entertainment" under your bed, together with your collection of stiff socks :eyebrows:
Kids in Scotland these days won't get to do what you could do with airguns - thanks to one or two high-profile incidents a few years ago, Scottish airgun laws have gotten really strict.

Yeah I know, I heard about that. We used to have a gun cabinet in the loft (which my dad built), with 3 shotguns, 4 air rifles and a couple of pistols in it, but then guns have always been a rather Italian thing...;)
Love it though - it was good fun, especially going hunting for rabbits, which we brought home and mum cooked. In Tuscany, rabbit is eaten more than chicken - still now!:)
As for 'entertainment' under the bed, probably the odd scud mag (I seem to remember 'Razzle' was a fav:eyebrows:), but I was never really short of female company, certainly as soon as I reached secondary school!:D

I think it is, and not just pervys, although the net has expanded their reach no doubt.. But traffic has expended vastly.. when i was young every second home at best had 1 car, now most homes have 2 at least. certainly 1.
On the other side of course, medicine is so much better so less die of pretty much most things.
Yeah, from the traffic point of view, defo:)

HAHAHA... Honestly, I was never short of mates either (led a wee 'gang' too, for a while, especially when motorbikes came into the equation, lol:D)
In our school, it was always 'geeks vs. the cool guys' (or at least our version of 'cool', lol), so you can probably guess which side I was on.

plenty on me. cant get into my suit:doh: oh well a diet i guess...
Yes exactly. Once they permitted no-win-no fee (aka 'ambulance chasing') in this country that was the start of it. People said it would happen and who was the PM at the time? Tony Blair - former lawyer. What does his wife do for a living? Lawyer. Plus all the other MPs who are lawyers. And whose mates will be lawyers, and all the law firms lobbying them.
Okay so the argument was supposed to be that poor people would be able to get justice, which is fair enough. But the unintended negative consequences have been massive, both financially and societally.

Precisely this. That was a huge error on this country's part, but of course so many view the world now as 'I want I want I want' and don't give a toss about the consequences of their 'compensation' wrangling.
Lol... Out of interest, what year/era are you describing, Paul?

Hello Marco,
It was the mid to late sixties, We never had a colour tv until the mid-seventies and a phone not untill the mid-eighties, but as they say 'what you dont have you dont miss'. To own 2 chippies you must have been very popular :). The other thing I seem remember, is that there were no or very few overweight kids about unlike today, when I see so many that shall we say are overweight to put it mildly which is rather sad really.
Totally agree, Paul. Never seen so many wee fatties wobbling around. Short of some sort of medical condition, there's really no excuse to be so overweight at that age, but it's because the lazy wee buggers don't MOVE enough, as they're always sat in front of their bloody screens!!
Probably the same as you, when I was that age, I was outside running around/cycling or whatever, from morning till night, and had BAGS of energy! Now all you hear is that they're 'tired' [doing WHAT exactly?] or 'bored'...
Of course there are exceptions, but the basic fact is that a poor (highly calorific) diet + lack of exercise/sedentary lifestyle = FATTY Bellafonte. Not sure what the answer is either... And it's many of the adults today, too!
Don't know how you survived without a landline phone until the mid-80s, though...
I presume you had a call box near you that wasn't doubling as a public loo!:D
Marco.
I think colour tellies became available in the UK about 1967 or 68. I was born in 68 and don't recall us ever having a black and white telly so my old man must have been an early adopter, but he was always well into his telly.
Rented of course, they cost as much as a car to buy back then.
not sure when we got colour. uk got it in 69, so im guessing around then or next year or so. say 1970/71. tv used to be just 2 channels on 405 lines, then bbc2 came out but only on 625.. that was just a bit before colour
Yeah, that sounds about right, although we owned ours. My parents were very anti-debt, or paying anything up... If they couldn't afford to buy something outright, they went without.
But through hard work, my dad's businesses paid well, so that was rarely the case. I remember the TVs in those days though being about as reliable as the workmanship of a British Leyland worker!
Marco.

Bloody posh bugger :)
Our TV couldn't receive BBC2 (405 line? instead of 625 I seem to remember, about 1969/70) - I had to put up with mates at secondary school going on about Rowan and Martin's laugh in and Mash and I didn't have a clue what they were going on about.
We also had one gas fire in the "front room", bloody awful paraffin heater in the kitchen and no heating upstairs - I used to look forward to scratching pictures in the ice on my bedroom window. Never felt that cold though; would have been 1962/63 with the ice, proper winters in those days.
try to tell people nowadays.......
i never got to watch tv much anyway.. during day i was out and in evening it was mums toy:eyebrows:

77 Sunset Strip, Beverley Hillbillies, Mr Ed, Hawaiian Isle, Lost in Space, Sunday Night at the London Palladium, Batman, Man from UNCLE, and all the Gerry Anderson productions. I think that was about it as far as I remember.
Oh, and Preston 78475, that was our landline number in the 60s. Strange that I still remember that but can't recall what I had for tea yesterday.
And my dad worked for Telehire for a few years, so our telly was always something special. Oh and Marco, folk who couldn't afford to buy their TV outright (AKA most normal people) didn't get into debt for it, they just rented. With TVs being as dear and as unreliable as they were, it was the smart thing to do. Unless you had more money than sense and wanted to get ahead of the Joneses :ner:

Lol - what do you mean by "normal"? Who's "normal": yours or mine?:D
In any case, sure, but it wasn't me making those decisions - speak to my dad!:ner: Anyway, it was never yours though, a bit like renting a property - you just keep paying for something that you'll never own (or be an asset), so I guess their decision to buy a TV ('sensible' or not) centered around their dislike for that type of thing.
They were always used to owning what they had, which is probably where I get it from. Be your own boss, stay in control and be beholden to no-one. That kinda shit. An overall healthy mentality, in my view, especially considering how the world has turned out since!;)
One thing's for sure though, their desire to own their TV (like they owned everything else, including their house/business premises and car outright) would've had feck all to do with 'keeping up with the Joneses', as they simply weren't wired that way:nono:
Rather like me, they did their own thing and didn't give a fuck what anyone else thought!

And we didn't consider ourselves as 'posh' - far from it.

No, I never cook, don't need to. Mrs. P cooks six days a week, including a roast dinner midweek, and does it well. Sunday is our lazy day.
Ah right, no worries... It's the opposite for us (although Del also cooks during the week), but Sunday lunch has always been the highlight of the week (where we push the boat out), and which has been the case for both of us since we were born, so couldn't imagine having a Chinese (or Indian) takeaway, which for us is a midweek thing:)
Anyway, hope you enjoyed it:cool:

There are some areas of the UK where it isn't possible to come from them and be posh. Birmingham, Liverpool, Newcastle, Scotland...
Oi - Scotland's a whole country!:D
Anyway, I'm sure the landed gentry/lairds, living in castles in the highlands and in the borders (plus their Scottish ancestors having also done so for centuries), would disagree - that is, IF they were crass enough to admit they were 'posh' in the first place!:ner:;)
Marco.
Yes I suppose there might be a few of them.
Okay you can't be posh and come from Glasgow then. Edinburgh? Maybe.
Agreed, but with the 'Reekies' it'd almost certainly be false... Plus they're known as mean, boring bassas;)

Well, it depends on your definition of "posh", and it's entirely subjective. I've never considered 'new money' [the nouveau riche] as truly 'posh', as there's no real substance to their wealth, and often lifestyles are funded by debt.
'Posh' for me is when, for generations, your family has owned land and properties and never had to work to live well.
Plus, crucially had 'class', in terms of being very well educated, both academically, but more so, socially, in terms of breeding and etiquette - all things that go MUCH deeper than a seemingly large bank balance, thus the ability to buy some modern monstrosity, posing as a 'posh house', in a suburban housing estate, considered as 'exclusive' by keeping up with the Joneses types; i.e the very definition of most parts of Bearsden or Newton Mearns in Glasgow.
We used to live just outside of Giffnock, another area in the south side of Glasgow deemed as being 'posh', and only 10 mins from Newton Mearns, where I had many friends from school, so I know what those areas are all about and generally how people there 'tick', and it's fundamentally never been my thing, as the vast majority are snobs and think they're something that they're not, which rarely happens with true 'posh' people, who would consider such behaviour as rather vulgar.
Del's Welsh maiden name of Rhydderch, has royal heritage, going way back, to a chap called King Rhydderch, see here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rhydderch_Hael and here: https://www.heroicage.org/issues/2/ha2rh.htm so it's no wonder she thinks she's a princess!!:D
Anyway, if you want to see proper 'old money' in Glasgow, drive down Great Western Rd, in the west end, and explore the G12 post-code, where you'll see huge, sprawling, detached red sandstone properties, with driveways that seemingly go on forever. It may be different nowadays, but originally they'd have been owned by genuinely 'posh' people, not superficial 'look at me' key-janglers!;)

well yes, if you are descended from royalty, no matter how far off, it gives you something to live up to, and a desire to be adored; or its off with his head(if your lucky):eyebrows:

What may be fortuitous, in terms of timing, is we're also going to have CCTV cameras installed, for security around the perimeter of the property, and of course, as a gentleman, I'd *never*, EVER, 'train' one of them on the area surrounding the hot-tub, and scan for 'interesting footage' later:nono:

Yesh, dat's cos you're a PERV!:eyebrows: Moi? Never... Even though I may be the judge of the 'wet t-shirt competition', which may just (possibly, if the wind's blowing in the right direction), take place as part of the 'evening entertainment', along with another bouncy castle, for lots of subsequent 'bouncing'...:D

I get the impression things in America are being kept comparatively calm and low key since Biden took over. No attention seeking antics as we saw from day one with Trump, who was like a naughty child with a felt tip marker leaving his mark everywhere.

Could do with a nice bit of turf. :)
It's just a TV studio. Or the back lot at Warner Brothers.
They don't really send them to Mars anymore because the aliens are on them right away and cannibalize them for the parts. Plus it's expensive and there wouldn't be any money left over for black ops.

Looks like the outskirts of Las Vegas to me.
apparently the iss had a load of grape vines growing up in space and are now back on terra. the hope being they will adapt to harsher conditions quicker so they do well in our climate change. amazing what gets done under the radar

Rubbish videolinking!
Have you noticed how many TV appearances via videolinking are badly thought out or not thought about at all? It's mainly backgrounds that get me, there was a guy on this morning who'd sat himself halfway across a large and slightly odd wall portrait which was totally distracting. Others come on TV from a total tip of a room in their house. I've seen all sorts of daft things behind folk on camera. Surely they can't lack the imagination to see that a plain wall or similar might be best?
