You never have a nice word to say about that poor dog...
"The World's Most Useless Dog" has had umpteen treats off me today, so she's not doing too badly. Not that it's appreciated!
As Del tells me: 'A nag is only a repeated request, so if the request is fulfilled at the first time of asking, there's no need to nag!':D

Hot Cross Buns are being advertised now. Does anybody actually like them?
It's a bit like Christmas Cake, Christmas Pudding and mince pies, only for the occasion. I wonder why, surely if they were properly nice folk would eat them all year round?

I do! Lightly toasted, bit of butter - yummo! :D
I wouldn't eat them all year around though, just nice as an Easter treat (I say Easter, I mean late January to early May).

Well if I was looking through bakery products, I'd somehow find myself drawn more towards the custard slices than Hot Cross Buns.
Same with Christmas pud, it's never really appealed, I'd opt for apple crumble & custard any day! :)

Oh yes, love everything you mention - mind you, lots of supermarket hot cross buns are just too bland for me.
Decent spiced bun with butter :)
All the Christmas ones I prefer with a Malt or Armagnac or Port, bit of a pattern emerging here :barrel:
used to be banned, bar end of lent, xmas and burials etc.. they are ok. as rob says, warmed and lashings of butter

Well if it was a toss-up between a slice of Christmas Cake or chocolate gateau, I reckon most would opt for the latter.
Never been that into Xmas cake either. In fact I'm not that fond I'd choc gateaux either.. Strawberry ones are better. But cream and me don't get along so well now.

During visits to France, I couldn't pass a patisserie without buying one of their "custard slices", which were sort of a flan but super-thick, and the custard really stiff and sort of caramelised. Never found out their name but may have been called flan patissiere. They were responsible for me always returning from France a right fat bugger.
Shame they've become a thing of the past, but till France gets its shit together I won't be partaking of any Covid-custards :(
not keen on custard; dont mind nice smooth hot custard on an apple pie but cold thick stuff.. yuk:D

After about 5 years of the same blood pressure medication (Amlodipine), it looks like a change may be required. I've been asked to provide a week's worth of readings, and the average is looking to be about 165/85. Which I guess is a bit high.
My mum had a major stroke when she was four years younger than I am now. So if my posts stop making sense that'll be the reason :(

I've been expecting this kind of thing. Soon they'll know what rooms or vehicles you've been in, maybe they can tell already. Unfortunately, as results become more discriminating, the more false positives will occur. Somebody passing you will carry a trace of you away with them!

Just got these for two new landline handsets: https://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/phones-broadband-and-sat-nav/telephones/telephones/panasonic-kx-tgj422eb-cordless-phone-twin-handsets-10190241-pdt.html?intcmpid=display~RR
Nice and compact, lightweight, easy to use, excellent range, and with a great set of features, including an effective and easy to use nuisance call blocking, plus talking caller ID, which to my easily amused mind is huge fun storing folk as 'Dickhead', 'Wanker', or whatever, and which is rather funny when being read out as 'Dickhead Calling', etc!:D
Anyway, a highly recommended pair of handsets for anyone like me who insists on having a working landline, not just a mobile phone!

We’ve recently upgraded to fibre broadband and so lost our landline as we’d have had to pay extra to keep it. I wasn’t sure about this but then I realised the only people who ever call us on it are my friend Tim and an older chap I sell hi-fi for (both of whom also have my mobile number) plus hundreds of bloody scammers!
Given that the scammers are all recorded messages now, so you can’t even have a bit of fun with them, we decided the landline was no great loss.

Yes, everyone I know, as I don't (or very rarely) us a mobile phone! I thought you knew me better than that, daftee?:D
Outside of this place, there are only TWO ways of contacting me: via email or landline phone. The only time I carry a mobile phone is when I'm out in the car, in case of emergencies, or should I need to contact Del - and it's only switched on when one or the other is applicable.
However, that's not the only reason for wanting to maintain a landline. More often than not I'm at home, so it makes sense to have a landline.
Plus, I'm rather particular about a high-strength signal usually being guaranteed whenever I'm speaking with someone a) so I can hear them clearly, and b) so there's much less likelihood of being cut off, due to a signal dropout, which along with the sound of tinny, robotic voices, is my bête noire with the quality of reception often offered by today's 'mobile phones', and c) so if necessary I can chat much longer before the battery runs out, compared with most mobile phones, as when speaking with friends, and we get into a good discussion, I can be on the phone for hours!!
Furthermore, and importantly, it puts ME *in control* more, by always knowing that I have access to a reliable phoneline 24/7, which is 'hardwired' to a phone network and when not in use left permanently plugged into the mains.
Fortunately, we aren't contacted often by scammers and such like, as few people know our number, and we don't indulge in many of the mainstream consumerist activities others do, which often result in your personal details being exposed to third parties.
Marco.

Why do I have to enter a PIN to watch an episode of 'Grand Designs'?
There's no sex (although the bird gets knocked up during the build surprisingly often, they don't actually show the conception). There's no violence and there's no bad language.
I understand that some people don't want their children seeing sex in case they grow up to be sex maniacs, and they don't want them seeing violence in case they grow up to be nutters. It's bollocks, but I understand it.
But who would you want to stop their children from illicitly watching 'Grand Designs'? People who are concerned that their children will become upper-middle class professionals with more money than they know what to do with?

The option isn't on the My Virgin Media site, mate. It's done via your V6 box.
So grab your remote control and hit the Home button, then scroll down to Help & Settings, then right to Parental Controls, and click OK (you'll need to have set up a PIN to start with, in order to make any changes), so enter your PIN and click OK.
That will take you to the Parental Controls menu. What you want is the 'Request a PIN to Watch Recordings' option, and to change the current setting (I presume from ON) to OFF.
Job done!

I think we had a similar upbringing, my parents didn't really mind what I did, as long as I was doing it somewhere else. The one exception was when I "borrowed" some matches and set fire to half an acre of gorse bushes on a neighbouring farm, and the fire brigade had to come and deal with it. Dad was a bit "hands on" after that one :spank:

If you were in the company of my mother you were nagged continuously. She could nag you non-stop for over two hours without repeating herself. It was generally wise to minimize any contact.
My father got the brunt of it though since he couldn't really do that. Although I think over the years he had developed the ability to zone it out.
I think we had a similar upbringing, my parents didn't really mind what I did, as long as I was doing it somewhere else.
Gosh, that's the polar opposite of my upbringing (when I read what Macca wrote, my feeling was ), I guess being an only child made a big difference, especially in an Italian family, as they're very close to and protective of their kids.
It does sound rather cold and distant, though... My parents and I were always very close. If I'd built something like that (which would've been unlikely, as I wasn't really wired that way), the first reaction from my dad would've been one of shock, for reasons just mentioned, then he would've undoubtedly said 'Well done', and given me a big hug!:)

Don't think I made my own breakfast until I got married, lol! That's just what mum did, along with all the cooking, washing and ironing. Yes, when I was young, I was very much a 'mummy's boy', that's not necessarily what I would've wanted, just how it was.

Apart from the "essentials" (feeding and clothing us), for the most part parental involvement was neither given nor required. I didn't need them to compliment me on my Meccano/Lego creations, nor help me to focus my microscope. And I needed no assistance when making and using weapons - I had mates for that. And when I turned nine mum brought us up alone, so she was a bit busy holding things together, not helped by the breakdown and being sectioned for two months.
But a couple of years later she took up with (and married) an old friend, and it was all good from there :)
I think I'm actually less handy round the house (cooking cleaning and ironing) than I ever used to be, but that's just because Mrs. P prefers to do it all herself, as I don't do it right ;)

lol I can't imagine that. If my father had ever hugged me I'd have thought he had lost his mind.
I think the only time I ever impressed him was when I gave him a demo of my 5.1 A/V system. He was still talking about that years later.
We were never one of those 'touchy feely' families. Talking about that with my brothers some time ago now and we all agreed that would have been awful. There was love and respect of course but none of us ever felt the need to openly demonstrate or verbalise it. I was very fond of my father, I took his death very hard.

Marco.
maws' are more huggy than dads ive found.. usually when your youg and again when older... the bit in middle is when they cant stand you;)
Yeah, I guess it's a male/female thing. Women generally show their emotions more, and yes my mum was 'huggier' than my dad, but hug (and sometimes kiss) is just something Italians automatically do with friends and family, It just comes naturally, and is what I've been brought up with.
Always fun with pretty nieces:eyebrows:;)
Marco.
Yes, different cultures no doubt. The Sopranos is an interesting example to bring up, clearly by any metric they were a totally dysfunctional family in constant conflict but they still fundamentally cared about each other. Blood's always thicker than water.
Yeah, totally. Ultimately it's all about honour and respect, but that doesn't stop you having a bit of nookie on the side:D

lol I can't imagine that. If my father had ever hugged me I'd have thought he had lost his mind.
That's a shame, mind you my Dad was very distant and always tried to 'busy' himself during his time off from work. By the time I was 13 he was just a voice on a phone call from working away. I don't talk to him nowadays, haven't seen him for years.
With my kids (Jude, 9 and Hannah, 4) I'm always cuddling them, teaching them things, giving them praise always, listening to them, sitting and chatting with them, playing with them whatever they want to do, and if things go wrong I always assure them that I will get it sorted and then getting it sorted becomes my top priority.
Never do they feel that they have to hide anything from me, good or bad. They're also reassured knowing that they can ask me anything at any time. :)
That's a shame,
No, it really isn't.
Partly it was a different generation, adults did their thing and the children did theirs. Nowadays it would probably be classed by some as 'abuse' or 'neglect' but it really wasn't. We just didn't need that sort of constant emotional reassurance. We didn't want it either!

Everything these days is classed as abuse or neglect by someone. Very odd days to be a parent that's for sure. The authorities will do absolutely anything to destroy a family in the name of 'protection'.

Had my first take away for at least twenty five years - a genuine wood-fired oven baked fresh pepperoni and mushroom pizza. None of that Pizza Hut made from frozen stuff.
Washed down with a glass of a 2017 Chateau Haut Peyrillat, Médoc

Jeez - why the reticence for getting a takeaway, Bazza? I'd die without a good Chinese or curry at least once a month!!
Glad you enjoyed the pizza, although IMHO the Médoc was wasted on it. A nice Chianti, Montepulciano d'Abruzzo or Nero d'Avola, would've been more appropriate... One of my missions, before I die, is to wean you off of your claret fetish!:ner::D;)

Curries and Chinese takeaways are not that important to me - I much prefer to eat the respective cuisine in a good restaurant (and preferably where the locals eat).
The wine was what was to hand, and left over from 'our' granddaughter's 21st birthday celebration yesterday. A Chianti would have been better - maybe next time.
Ah - congrats on the 21st. Hope you all had a nice day:)
Yes, uncork a Chianti next time!;)
As for curries and Chinese, I agree, but I need a bit of spice/Asian flavours in my life on a regular basis, and can't eat the same food all the time (European/British), as I'd get bored.
Therefore, if Del's not making it herself (as we always keep the necessary authentic ingredients in stock, sourced from Asian supermarkets), I like to have some Chinese or Indian food, to break up the 'monotony' of the former.
Indeed, one of the first cravings I have, and where I head for, after a 3-week summer holiday in Europe, eating a similar style of food, is the local curry house, to get my SPICE hit, yeah man!:peace:

Last night Puppy may have eaten one of my wife's diamond stud earrings.
I have saved all the puppy poo today, so when Fliss came in this evening (with a sieve), I said "Oh that will be handy, I've saved the poo for you".

had a dream last night - went into the post office to get a first class stamp and a Twix.
Richard Hammond was behind the counter. I said to him this must be a bit of a come-down for you, working in a post office. He said yes, it is bit.
He then proceeded to charge me the wrong amount and got confused over the change.
I thought he must be filming but I couldn't see any cameras and there was no sign of Clarkson or May.
He probably charged you the right amount, it just seemed expensive. A first class stamp and a Twix aren’t what they were in the 90s but I suppose that was 30 years ago now. I picked up a packet of Polo mints in the garage a couple of years ago and they were something like 75p, couldn’t believe it, used to be 15p

Nope a shirt and a waistcoat.
I'm pretty sure I don't have a thing for Richard Hammond but then I'm pretty sure I don't have a thing for the post office so why I'd dream about either is anyone's guess.
Might just be my subconscious telling me I want a Twix.
Pretty typical of dreams though isn't it? I mean it could populate the dream with anyone, a young Gina Lollobrigida for example. But no, I get Richard Hammond.

In other news, folks, at LONG last, Del's belated (because of Covid) sleepover party, initially supposedly to have marked the opening of her new 'princess room' last year (read as dedicated dressing room), is going ahead tonight!
So.. I'm being kicked out (will be kipping over at my dad's) to allow her and some of her girlfriends, mostly in their 20s, to celebrate.
A hot-tub and enclosure has been hired (complete with 'disco lights' for night time), into which, just before I go, I'll be piping in a playlist of funky choons I've prepared (enough to last a good few hours) and will be streamed from my hard-drives/laptop, through a pair of active speakers. After that, if they're still sober enough (unlikely) they can use my Tidal account.
Anyway, the sun's come out and it looks quite nice, so hopefully it'll stay dry for them. In any case, the tub will be well heated, under cover and secluded, as no doubt at some point it'll be tops off!:drunk::stalks:
Copious quantities of Prosecco have been brought in, and I've prepared a number of different cocktails in jugs for them, and made it all look pretty, so they can splash, dance and drink the night away, watch movies, or whatever else young girls do together at parties in skimpy clothes or bikinis!!
Right, off to get ready and console myself at drawing the short straw, lol!:D Oh, and to wonder what kind of carnage I'll return to tomorrow.....

Cheers, mate. The feedback I got was that all the girlies had a ball, including Del, and really appreciated what I did. Only thing was the mess I came back to lol, both inside and out, the mucky pups!
It's funny, a lot of guys say that they don't understand or 'get' women, and so often struggle in their relationships with them.
I guess I'm lucky with Del (who despite being a princess and sometimes 'high-maintenance') is mostly just a joy. However, I've generally always got on well with women, I think simply because I find them to be rather fascinating and beautiful creatures, plus crucially came to the realisation pretty early that they're 'wired' completely differently from us, thus have quite different emotional needs.
So when they want to 'play', you let them play, and generally you're rewarded in the end.. If you try to stifle that or deprive them of the female company or contact they crave, or control them for your own ends, simply through either selfishness or ego, IME it leads to resentment and always comes back to bite you on the bum...
As you know, Del's a fair bit younger than me, also looks young for her age (and has a 'young head'), hence why some of her friends are younger than her and can relate to her on important levels, although she also has older friends too, which she's equally close to. That's why I don't mind occasionally being 'kicked out' of the house lol, to give both her pals and her the space and privacy that they need, especially when some of them are young enough to be my daughter!:D
In the end it's all good, and that shared level of respect and understanding is probably why Del and I have been happily married for so long., and her friends think I'm 'cool'. Anyway, I hope those thoughts weren't too deep for a wet and rainy Sunday evening!:)
Marco.

Most of them are only supposed to 'work' by their suggestive appearance, and in the way they are consumed: asparagus; figs; oysters, etc. The use of rhino horn is utter nonsense, it's made of keratin, so you have as much success with it as you would chewing your fingernails. Again it's the shape of a rhino's horn that gives it any (misguided) credence in it being an aphrodisiac.
The Chinese have a lot to answer for with their use of animal parts for their traditional medicine.

Yo Piggurs, 'pro' it only to an extent... I'm in favour of some 'alternative medicines'/natural remedies, generally plant-based stuff, as long as it's effective, as it normally has no side-effects:)
What I dislike is pumping my body full of chemicals, where the side-effects are often worse then the condition that the drugs are supposedly treating!

Just had a duck in the house...
Flew over into my garden panicking, something had obviously spooked it and headed straight into my conservatory door and head first at my 401
It was trying to get out the front window (ducks obviously don't get glass). I grabbed a throw, threw it over the duck and gathered it up then took it outside and let it go. It seemed to fly away ok so fingers crossed no harm done.
I have a 'through lounge with a large window at one end, and floor-to-ceiling patio doors at the other.
On several occasions I have had birds fly into the window, presumably thinking it to be a tunnel, attracted by the light at the other end. In most cases there has been a loud 'thump' and the bird flies away; although stunned and possibly wounded. On one occasion, sadly the impact was so severe the bird broke its neck. :(
went into the town at lunchtime today because I'm fed up eating the crappy sandwiches from the local shop.
There was a place advertising baked potatoes so I thought that would do for a change. Asked for one with cheese - three quid!
I had to go outside again just to make sure there wasn't a sign saying 'Millionaires Only' out front. (There wasn't).
Thought it would be about £1.75, or two quid tops. Just ridiculous.

Anyway eating healthy has never been a consideration. I just have what I fancy. Got a curry on its way right now, Lamb Kashmiri:D
Strictly speaking, the sandwich shop is 'out there', the cooker is 'in here' :) Don't be dissing my mate for wanting to dine out, you do it all the time :)
Lol - not true, especially recently! Pre-Covid, we ate out, max twice a week, usually only once and sometimes none. Now, we've hardly been out at all, because it's a bit shit round here until things start to get more back to normal:)
Marco.
How far is the shop that sells the crappy sarnies?
About three hundred yards away.
About three hundred yards away.
About a five minute round trip, I can do a bacon sarnie quicker.

Nice one, good choice!:D
However, if you're in all day and don't have any time whatsoever to make yourself a plate of food, something is badly wrong, ruling out of course the fact that you just can't be arsed:lol:
Even just making a sandwich yourself, from ingredients you could've bought last time you went shopping [and which would've been a damn sight better and cheaper] should've been possible. If you've got time to make a cup of tea and drink it, you've got time to make a sandwich!:ner:
Jeez, even when my business was at its busiest, and I was working until stupid o'clock in the morning, and out on the road all day for 6/7 days a week, I still ensured that I left the house with a decent packed lunch, and *made* time to eat it!;)
Marco.
That's true but going the shop means I do get a bit of fresh air and exercise. And there's no washing up.
Plus from next year I'm going to be living on bacon sarnies and that anyway.

After three hundred yards of blood sweat and tears you really deserve better. If I had to park more than 50 yards from an eaterie I'd be really pissed off if the reward was cack :(

Or to be precise... To ENSURE that *I* was in control of what went in my mouth, and that I didn't have to rely on eating shite!! Essentially junk food...
And in those days, I had NO time to 'dine out'. It was grab something to eat quickly in the car, in between appointments, and like it. But at least I knew I was eating something decent, which I enjoyed and wasn't paying through the nose for:)
Marco.
When I was flying high in the heady cut throat world of local government facilities management lunch was for wimps. Used to keep the odd morsel in the office fridge to graze on through the day and had the odd mug shot or pot noodle
Cooking a meal after a long day at work was my wind down time, glass of wine, some toons and chopping onions...

I hardly ever eat junk food. Might have Kentucky once a month, maybe a pizza a couple of times a month. I like a bit of chocolate late night but only a few squares.

I totally *get* that last bit, if you're single (as cooking can be therapeutic), but otherwise that's what a wife is for!;)
In those days, Del worked 9-5 in a fairly undemanding office job, whereas I was out until all hours, so it was only right that she had a meal ready for me when I got home:)
As for 'lunch is for wimps' lol, well that was always the joke, but not when you're Italian. Good food matters! If I didn't have a nice Parma ham sandwich, made with crusty bread from the local deli, or some such, I'd have been a VERY unhappy bunny!:D
Besides, it's bad for you not to eat, and also unproductive, as your body needs proper fuel to sustain it, Maybe this is why I'm a healthy bastard now, with no ailments to speak of, simply because I looked after myself properly when I was younger?;)
Marco.

But you're eating shite (and overpriced) sarnies from the local shop - how do you justify that when it's completely unnecessary?:D
And you've said that when you retire, you'll be living off of bacon sarnies, A.K.A junk food... Well, it certainly isn't healthy!:ner:
When instead, you could use the time to teach yourself to cook, or at least cook proper homemade food, such as you've mentioned before, pasta, rice, etc. No need to live off of bacon sarnies, daftee...
Marco.
Bacon sarnies are cheap though. And it's hard to get bored of bacon. It may actually be impossible.

I wasn't single I just didn't like my then partner's cooking lol. No, to be fair she was great at the meat and two veg style of cooking but couldn't do pasta, curries etc. (she tried bless her). So I usually cooked for myself. More often than not (and I still do this now) I'd cook a lot more than I need and freeze meal size portions for nights when I didn't fancy cooking from scratch.
I got by ok with the little and often style of eating through the day back then and in any case calories were often augmented by a pint or two of Guinness at lunchtime ;)
I'm in rude health other than my neurological condition and that's nothing to do with my diet then or now.

Last night was "breakfast tea" night, which Mrs. P does about once a fortnight. All good, but the real star of the show is the bacon :)
When I left home, I became a vegetarian for a couple of years. It was great in terms of learning a little about spices, as vegetarian food needs spicing in my view.
But it was bacon that got me back on eating meat :)

Welcome back Guy!
Did you know that the word 'vegetarian' is actually an ancient Native American word, meaning 'Shit at Hunting'? No, me neither :)
It's personal taste of course, but I'd say not so much 'spiced', but well-seasoned and prepared with the use of fresh herbs. Spiced only if it forms the basis for Asian cuisine or such like.
However, the most important thing, a bit like fish, is that it's as fresh as possible. Bad veggie food almost always stems from the use of poor quality source ingredients!:)
I like bacon, occasionally, but I wouldn't rave about it, and as with sausages, I'm uber-fussy about the type I'll eat, simply because the cheap (mass produced) stuff is full of nasty cack.

Yeah but eyelashes and bits of old carrier bag improve the flavour :) Truthfully, we only ever get decent sausages, and sometimes  VEGETARIAN sausages! Hanging my head in shame.
I'll eat salami and chorizo and that but never liked 'British' sausage no matter how fancy it is. Nothing to do with ingredients I think it's the texture aka 'mouth feel' that puts me off.

I tend to avoid meat simply because I don't like it. But also, I've never really understood why sentient animals should be murdered just to put food on my plate when alternative foods will do just fine.
One could argue that they would not have had the benefit of being born otherwise. Unfortunately, that sort of smacks of the philosophy that existed in attitudes to humans in Nazi death camps where people were reduced to being seen as a disposable product.
I find seeing a slice of what was recently a living, reasonably intelligent creature on my plate a little unsavoury, so to speak.
Yeah but eyelashes and bits of old carrier bag improve the flavour :) Truthfully, we only ever get decent sausages, and sometimes  VEGETARIAN sausages! Hanging my head in shame.
Lol... Cheap sausages are truly nasty things, full of entrails, cartridge and goodness knows what, plus they're extremely fatty, so it's got to be something with a high-meat content. I also like to know where my food (not just sausages) comes from, as much as possible, and that it's from a responsible and ethical source. That's why I only ever buy sausages from the local butcher, which come from free-range pigs on his own farm, half an hour from my house!:)
I applaud you on the veggie sausages, but they're not for me, as I find them rather tasteless in comparison, so if I'm going to eat sausages, it's proper ones or nothing. One exception though, which is Del's favourite, and really the only type she'll eat, are Glamorgan sausages, see here: https://www.google.com/search?gs_ssp=eJzj4tTP1TdIqjTKLTNgdGDwEkzPSczNL0pP zFMoTiwtTkxPBQCgYAqM&q=glamorgan+sausage&rlz=1C1RFPM_enGB708GB709&oq=glamorgan&aqs=chrome.2.69i57j46i433l2j46i175i199l4j0l3.7072j 0j15&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8
Those are made from cheese, leeks and breadcrumbs. shaped into sausages, and delicious! If you haven't tried them, give them a go, but don't expect them to act as 'faux meat', like other veggie sausages, as they won't give you that 'hit'. They're essentially like vegetable croquettes.
One of Del's pet hates, as a long-term veggie/semi-vegan, is vegetarian food pretending to be meat! I guess it's fine for meat eaters wanting to turn veggie or eat less meat, and so feel like the texture's the same, but not if you hate meat (both the taste and texture), as any true veggie does.
Oh and while I'm on the subject, true veggies don't eat fish either! Those are pescatarians. She'll throw a major strop, when we're in a restaurant, if when she's told them that she's veggie, some dimwit offers her fish...:doh:

Going "veggie" was an education in spicing for me - much of my cooking at that time was daal/pulse based (need to keep up protein intake - important to use mixture of beans in order to get mixed amino acids ).
Beans need spicing to make them palatable In my opinion - unless you insist on eating bloody awful "baked beans"
Indian cuisine has a great tradition of vegetarian cooking as so many of the population do not eat meat, so go to the best practitioners.
On my baked bean aversion, I just can't stand the sickly over sweet sauce - a complete "no no" with a cooked breakfast :spew:

As a vegan, how does she feel about bags and shoes pretending to be leather? Or as a semi-vegan is it ok to mix 'n' match? I find it all so confusing, as I'm sure many restaurant waiters and shoe shop staff probably do.

Yeah, I know *exactly* what you mean and I'm the same. Grant's right though, I think you'd love quality Scottish Lorne (square) sausages as the texture [mouth feel] is totally different from links (much firmer, and also drier).
I think what you object to (a bit like me) is the 'squishy sensation' of biting through the sausage skin (which let's face it is pretty nasty and made from intestines), into the 'pulped' meat inside, which itself in anything but the best sausages, is of dubious quality.
That's why I'm not big on thick/fat varieties, such as Cumberland, as for me the texture is unpleasant and they're heavy going, To avoid that, try thinner varieties, which are like large chipolatas, and ones with a high-meat content (around 80%), as when cooked they have a much firmer texture and 'mouth feel', as well as taste delicious, especially when nicely chargrilled!:)
Marco.
I'm not familiar with this Scottish Lorne, I suspect you can't get it round here. It's all pies and sausages in these parts.
I'm not much for British food in general, apart from a proper roast lamb or roast beef dinner.

Cumberland "swirl" on a barm with some HP sauce takes some beating. From Booths the grocers. Very thin and knobbly and shaped like a cat turd.

Yup, some of the best vegetarian food on the planet is Indian or Asian influenced!:)
So yes, that needs spicing - and indeed is mandatory in order to be authentic. Like you, Del also LOVES beans and pulses, nuts, etc (think nut roasts), but I disagree that beans need spicing in order to be palatable. For your palate, perhaps, but again it depends on a) how they're cooked/how fresh they are, and b) which type of beans you're talking about.
I could give you any number of Mediterranean recipes for bean dishes, with no spices in them whatsoever (fresh herbs and good seasoning used instead), but which are *packed full* of flavour and taste delicious!
Marco.

I had a real aversion to going anywhere near meat after a few months of not eating it. I hadn't previously realised how much meat counters/butchers smell until I gave up eating the stuff
Lol... Firstly, in terms of the latter, gawd I'm like you and DETEST that 'raw meat'/blood smell - makes me boak!!:spew:
Yes, even as a meat eater, but a rather fussy one, in terms of not really liking to see or handle it in its raw state. Fine when it's nicely cooked and served on a plate, but I'm not keen on the 'before' process:nono:
Hence why I DETEST any form of offal... PUKE!! Even the smell of chicken (or pork) being fried off can be disgusting, depending on the chicken (or pork).
As for Del, well, she wasn't always veggie (turned so in her teens), and grew up with parents, who like her were very much into being green/self-sufficient, and who had a big house with lots of land, where they had their own rabbits, chickens and pigs, goats, veg/pots, fruit trees, all sorts. Therefore she's milked goats, skinned rabbits, plucked chickens, and pulled the guts out of all sorts, as her dad taught her all that when she was little, so she can prepare both meat and fish as well as any chef, and has the knife skills to accompany it.
That's why cooking it doesn't bother her:) She might be a princess, but she's not scared of getting her hands dirty.. And as I joke with her too, in terms of cooking meat, good job, as before she married me, she'd have to have learned!;)
Marco.

Ok, well firstly, she won't entertain *anything* pretending to be something it isn't, clothes, jewellery, food or whatever. For her, it's either got to be real or unashamedly fake. Where possible she'll always support animal welfare or what's best for the planet (as a diehard 'greeny' that's in her DNA), but life isn't perfect and sometimes sacrifices are needed, so of course she'll wear leather shoes - what's the real alternative?
'Vegan footwear' isn't really her, as it tends to be rather 'functional', and not very stylish.
Bags are a little different, as she quite likes to be quirky and so will buy all sorts, often made from recycled materials, but stylish and quirky with it. She creates her own style/fashion sense and 'owns' it, and so unlike a lot of women isn't a slave to trends, although she fully keeps up to date with them and adopts them if she thinks the look suits her, but not simply to be 'on trend' [a sheep she isn't] - or she'll often make things from scratch herself, and utilise her skills as a qualified textile designer.
However, these days she prefers me to take her shopping, funded by the bank of Marco!:D
As for waiters in restaurants, there's simply NO excuse these days for not being fully conversant in the terms used to describe various types of non-meat eaters. least of all because it's so fashionable now to be veggie or vegan [although that's certainly not why Del is]. Therefore, they *should* be on the ball and able to successfully differentiate between all of them!
Marco.

One another line now... headlines in the Argentine Canal 26... now to be forever known as "Comedy of errors" in Argentine TV Shakespeare mix-up...
One man in his time really does play many parts, it seems, according to an Argentine newsreader who mixed up the author William Shakespeare with the first man to receive a Pfizer jab.
Canal 26 presenter Noelia Novillo announced that "one of the most important writers in the English language - for me the master" had died.
In fact it was his namesake, William "Bill" Shakespeare, 81, who died in a hospital in England earlier this week.
Shakespeare "The Bard" died in 1616.
However, that was news to Novillo who told her audience on Thursday: "We've got news that has stunned all of us given the greatness of this man. We're talking about William Shakespeare and his death. We'll let you know how and why it happened."
Seems that his knowledge of the great man didnt stretch to the fact he'd been dead for 400 years:doh::D

So on your wedding day, how did the "handover" go? Something like this?
Marco's mum: "Ok dear, Marco likes his underpants warmed in front of the fire each morning. Do that well and he'll be a happy bunny"

And like any good salesman you managed to convince her that you were :) It all seems to have worked out though. Normally if you get two queens in one hive one queen has to leave. Suppose it's different if one is a princess.
Hahaha, love it.

Marco.
