But it has now emerged that there are not enough power points in*Glasgow*to charge the fleet, leading to the embarrassing prospect that massive generators will have to be shipped in to provide the energy.

It also shows how pitifully inadequate the infrastructure is in reality for any MAJOR, wide-scale take-up of electric cars, if it can't facilitate the "fleet" of cars (what - a few hundred at most?) of some 'VIPs'!
So it's a good job that the whole of the Scottish driving population haven't decided overnight to 'go electric', and instead most are happy sticking with their combustion-engined vehicles for now, eh?;)

They've been threatening to install new water and electricity meters for a couple of years, never happens though.
Signed up to a new 2 year fixed deal with my current provider in the summer, one proviso was I had a smart meter installed. No problem, arranged the date, booked the day off, and despite the confirmation emails, no one turned up, and then the day after I get an email to say they couldn’t make it due to unforeseen circumstances and could I call them back to rearrange... no apology no attempt to contact me. Suffice to say I will be playing hard to get!

This has all just reminded me - Anita's lad bought me a Mickey Mouse watch for Christmas last year, but the strap was too small. Was just reading about him. I used to quite like Give us a Clue back in the day. He and Una Stubbs (the opposite team captain) both passed this year. Still, 92 is a good age.
Also just reading about David Fuller, convicted of two murders in the 80’s and almost more horrifying “activities” since. I’m not really a supporter of capital punishment, but I think I’d make an exception for someone that evil. I wonder how many more missing persons cases will lead back to him...?

Tried lighting it a couple of weeks ago, having already booked him, but we just ended up with smoke coming back into the room from the stove so had to put it out and haven’t been able to use it since. He found the issue, dead wood pigeon blocking the flue! I can’t imagine it died straight away, amazed we never heard anything from it though. Even though it was partially smoked I decided to let him dispose of the remains rather than eat them. Rather partial to a pigeon breast but I think this one was past it’s sell by date. (Don’t panic, I didn’t take any pictures!)

In a bid to lose some weight I've stopped having corn flakes before bed. But this has seriously buggered up my toilet routine. I think I'd rather be fat and regular, so back to corn flakes tonight. I might even throw in a few Shreddies :)
I started on the fruit and fibre a while back. Woke up in the middle of the night with explosive decompression about to take place.
Seems to have settled down now though.

Oh what a night! Had a burst pipe last night, so the wooden kitchen floor was under an inch of water. We've had no running water since, and 36 litres of bottled water only goes so far. And no flushing toilet, so I've had to postpone my morning "visit".
Setting off to NEBO in a few minutes, and haven't decided which motorway services will reap the benefits of my delayed dump. Just glad I didn't have Indian last night as planned ;)
Hope it has not caused too much damage Steve. I had a flood on my wood kitchen floor. I managed to soak it up quick but it wasn't quite same

Recently introduced my 13-year-old boy to the old comedy series Red Dwarf (we are up to series 4). I wasn't sure how he'd take it, being over 30 years old! But he obviously likes it a lot because he keeps asking if we can watch another episode. Some jokes go straight over his head because they are about 80s stuff, but there's obviously enough to keep him interested.
Makes me feel old because the first series/season looks so old fashioned :( Still makes me laugh though.
One thing I realised is how the original Holly (Norman Lovett) was so much better than the later one. Just a lot more funny IMO.

I can forgive the creakiness as the rest of it is so good. I mean it's space opera, not science fiction, so you have to suspend disbelief and get into the sprit of it.
The character of Avon has to be one of the best anti-heroes ever created, and played to perfection by Paul Darrow. Worth watching for that alone IMHO.
Plus it's proper telly, meaning it's sole purpose is to entertain, not to push some tragic woke agenda.
A couple of years back Benedict Cumberbatch was talking about doing a film version. He would play Avon and Tom Hardy was attached to play Blake.
Doesn't seem to have moved on any further though which is a shame.

I've attempted it but it's just unwatchable. Not only because of the woke stuff but also because it's fundamentally crap.
The only time it was ever really any good was in the Pertwee/Baker years and even then it was only the Terry Nation stories that were above average.

I gave up after Peter Capaldi's incarnation, but I think I did see one episode with Jody Whittaker as the Doctor. (I thought it a neat move to get around the rule that the Doctor can only regenerate up to a maximum of 12 times (presumably as a male).)
Everyone has their favourite Doctor: usually the one who was current when they first started watching. I'm sufficiently ancient to have watched the first broadcast episode, so William Hartnell is my favourite Doctor. My least favourite was John Pertwee, playing the earth-bound Doctor, who seemed to spend all his time battling monsters in muddy disused quarries.
I saw few of the Tom Baker and Peter Davidson incarnation episodes, and virtually none of the Colin Baker of Sylvester McCoy incarnations.
yeah when young i watched it. tom baker was sufficietly mad to do it well. hartnell and Troughton were decent too. even davidson was fairly good although i didnt watch it then. tom baker was my last.

I went for a long time believing Tom Baker to be dead, then one day he turned up on a radio programme. That came as a bit of a surprise. He was aware of the rumours. Bloody social media
Just splashed out on a new phone..
Have to say its quite a difference to my old one in use.
A little bigger but a lot thicker and heavier. But at same time it sits in hand OK.

Forty odd years ago I had had a few beers and decided it would be nice to stick my bum out of the passenger widow of my mates Cortina - lovely warm evening so I left it out for a good couple of miles thinking it would amuse the people in the car that was behind us.
When we got out at the local Chinese takeaway I was shocked to see that the car behind us was actually the police.
Copper approached me and said "having a bit of trouble in the back were we sir?"
Being young, drunk and stupid I demanded an identity parade :doh:
The constable explained to me that I could be in a lot of trouble and that my actions could also have got my mate (driver of car) in trouble - copper then smiled and told us to get home.
Job done, I accepted that I was daft, felt embarrassed by my actions and had greater respect for the police.

A friend of a friend worked for the Police in a civilian capacity for several years and she said there were a good few officers there who, if they hadn't been accepted by the Police, would definitely have been criminals!

The video starts with him on the ground and the reason he is on the ground is because he resisted arrest, sticks or not. You think they wrestled him to the ground for fun? They only do that if you resist being handcuffed.
The bloke is obviously very naïve, he clearly couldn't believe they came to arrest him for what he did and probably thought that if he made a bit of a fuss about being handcuffed they'd just go away.
Yes, you get the odd nutter in the police but in general they are fine (and nothing like the cops in America, not even close). They have to deal with utter dickheads every day to the point where that's what they expect to face every time and they are trained not to piss about if someone resists.
The reason there is six of them is because it makes it easier to subdue someone without seriously hurting them even if they are big and strong.

They'll have asked him to identify himself, and then when he does that they will then have told him that he's being arrested and what the charge is
Then they will ask him to place his hands behind his back to be handcuffed. That's the point where he will have started resisting and then they have had to wrestle him down to cuff him.

I think the average copper is only smart enough to catch drink drivers, druggies, pissheads and car thieves (and then only if the thief is actually stopped while driving the stolen car). For everything that requires brains they have specialist branches.
Most crimes these days are solved through technology, not brain cells - CCTV, ANPR, drugs wipes, tracking devices, alarm systems, fingerprint scanners, drones and helicopters with night vision. Without that lot, the police (and us) would be screwed.

I can't see that succeeding. There is no basis as retired drivers don't clog the roads up during rush hours and are in a lower accident group. It would cost whoever brought it in an awful lot of votes.

I can get a bit drowsy sometimes so to keep my energy levels up I have a bag of Werther Originals in the door pocket :) Keeping the window wound down and ditching the tartan travel rug helps too.

We went back to delivered milk a few years ago, as I wanted to support local business, 2 pints each day, and he collects his money each Friday. That would have been ok, and I didn't even mind paying a bit more, but...
Often delivery didn't come till after I'd gone to work, so sometimes it was a toast breakfast (put me in a shit mood for the day. Also he would rock up every third or fourth week (not always Friday) and expect a big lump of cash. So... supermarket pay-as-you-go milk again.

Just got back. The small lump is unidentified, so I had the option of lab tests followed by whatever treatment might be prescribed or removal. It's to be removed! Why mess about? The three minute 'consultation' cost me fifty quid and surgery estimates for the little bump are "between £500 and £600". That large extra home by the sea has to be paid for I guess :rolleyes:.
Not cheap is it.. another reason I don't have a pet now. The main one is I couldn't look after one.

I think that's probably what it is. It's floating around under the skin and not attached to the bone beneath. No more pets after this one!

If so; I understand that "fatty lumps" (lipomas) are quite common on the breed as they get older.
Get the vet to have a bit of a hunt for other lumps while removing it - not a big problem. You did the right thing going to the vet.
I was talking to the wife of a, retired, local vet. One of his gun dogs needed looking at and he was furious about the way vet fees have gone up since he retired (not sure why he didn't just do it himself though :scratch:)

I reckon vets are in cahoots with pet insurance companies to artificially inflate treatment costs to frighten owners into insuring their pets. Next time you visit make a note of how many pens, mugs, baseball caps etc you can see with pet insurers' names on them. And check out the big sticker on that helicopter hiding round the back.

We used to have a bulmastiff which we bought as a puppy and insured him straightaway. At about a year old he was diagnosed with hip dysplasia (I think that's how it's spelled) The treatment would cost a fortune, but insurer paid for them. Though we had to pay the vet then claim money from insurer. We were only covered for 2 years for that condition, after which we were on our own.
When doing a job at a stables the nice lady there recommended glucosamine & chondroitin tablets (available at supermarkets for cheap as chips), pretty much the same thing. Worked a treat. Must have saved us hundreds if not thousands. Can't believe the vet didn't suggest this ;)

Actually, one of them was a Fire 8 HD tablet my daughter wanted - usually £89.99 but down to £39.99 - bargain, but probably means there’s a new model coming out next week...

Complete change of subject... it occurred to me today that I haven’t seen a launderette in years - 20 years ago there was one in every parade of shops but I honestly couldn’t tell yo where one is now within 20 miles - although a quick Google does show a handful in Ipswich. No surprise really, everyone has a washing machine these days, but my super king size duvet won’t fit in mine...
Our Morrisons in Chorley has had some big washing machines installed recently, right outside the entrance. I suppose the idea is for shoppers to bung their dirty duds in one and go shopping while they wash... and they have 18kg capacity, so your super king size underpants, sorry duvet, should fit in :)

Got an Echo Dot for my mate for Christmas. Should be good enough for him as:
His hifi comprises a Trio t/t and Sony TA-2560 integrated, which he got as a job lot at local auction for 20 quid, and B&W DM603 speakers which I gave him. He can connect the Dot to the amp for cheapo streaming :)

I’ve got an original Echo Dot still going strong in the “music room” - mainly used for streaming songs for son’s drum practice, but it sounds surprisingly good hooked up to a decent(ish) system. I’m sure he will be very happy.
I’m getting my mate a fridge for Christmas - I can’t wait to see his face light up when he opens it... (boom tish!)

I have used the one on Great Whip street (Ipswich). Only for the driers; we had had loads of wet days last winter and I needed to catch up on the laundry.
Funny, but after only a couple of visits people started talking to me and sharing gossip - great places for socialising :)

A favourite story my grandma used to tell me was of one time when she was at her local laundrette, and this posh-looking woman was using the facilities. The look on her face suggested she would really rather be anywhere else.
The woman's washing could be seen moving around through the glass door, apart from a pair of knickers which stubbornly stuck to the glass, giving everyone a view of a giant skid mark on the gusset. The woman looked like she wanted the ground to swallow her up.
She loved her toilet humour, my nan :)

We too have one of those full size ones in the bedroom (if that comment doesn't bring Marco out of hibernation I don't know what will), but it too doesn't get used (still talking about the Echo!).
But my brother had just given us a new one as an early Christmas pressie - I think he must have gone a bit mad with the Black Friday pish - it's shaped like a small football, and the SQ is shockingly good. Amazon must be responding to customer complaints here, because there is a button on top that switches off it's ability to 'listen'.

Well suffolk isn't quite what was referring to.
On another point my housing Assoc are making it unlikely that I will get to put s ev charger on wall by driveway. They are putting so many obstacles in way for a poxy simple job it's obvious they just don't want it. Link claim to be a green company too .
The company for instance said they would want to update the consumer box. Link say no. It's their box nobody touches it.
So much for them being green .
I'm about to give up quite frankly.

On the eastern side I would expect it to be colder, but my friends up at Ullapool have it a bit milder I think. Gulf Stream brushes past it, even have palm trees in Plockton iirc. Though you wouldn't know it if you tried swimming up there - I did once, never again.

Once upon a time that may have been true for the Kingdom of East Anglia.
However, East Anglia seems to be forgotten about (other than for weekend escapes from the smoke) - good in some ways I suppose. I have even seen the Anglia region being described as "Midlands" :spew:

An Italian man who wanted a Covid vaccination certificate without getting the jab turned up for his vaccine with a fake arm, officials say.
The man, in his 50s, arrived for his shot with a silicone mould covering his real arm, hoping it would go unnoticed.
But a nurse was not fooled and the man has now been reported to the police.
The nurse told local media that when she had rolled up his sleeve, she found the skin "rubbery and cold" and the pigment "too light".

You know what Barry, when I worked in the origination department of a large printers (which I did for twenty-odd years), I proof read my own work, and was very good at it. Other employees would ask me about spellings they were unsure of rather than get the dictionary out.
But as I get older my spelling is getting progressively worse, despite all the books I've read over the years. I can only think 'spell correct' technology has made me sloppy.
