I see Andy Burnham, mayor of Greater Manchester is kicking up a fuss over the local Covid restrictions. He won't change things one bit, he's just attention seeking and trying to boost his profile. Typical local politician, anything to get into the news.
I can't take him seriously anyway. Not with those 'coiffed' and plucked eyebrows he now has, it wouldn't look quite so daft if they were both at the same height.

He's a big Roger Moore fan, but couldn't quite master the eyebrow-lift.
He's been gracing our screens on local news programmes up here for years, and he's always looked strange. Like he's had a full-on chemical peel, or fell asleep in the sun.

Ordered a curry last night at ten to eight. Didn't arrive until nine thirty. So ended up eating late, went to bed expecting odd dreams. I wasn't disappointed.
The first part was confused but the upshot was I was a long way from home and needed to get a bus. Bus turns up and I get on but then realise I have no mask. Nobody says anything but I feel bad so I ask if anyone has a spare mask they will sell me. A lady has one and hands it to me and I put it on.
I then realise I have a Terry's chocolate orange that I really want to eat but I am unsure if it is within the rules to pull the mask down whilst eating. I know it's okay on an aeroplane but is it okay on a bus? I don't know. So in the end I leave it.
I get off the bus and am not far away from my old house in Liverpool. I start walking and see one of our cats sat atop a litter bin. I go over to him and he talks to me. I can't recall now what he said, although I'm sure it was something quite profound.

I dropped by the Asda website last night and managed to pounce on a two week grocery delivery slot. They get snapped up very fast and end up unavailable for weeks ahead. I can get one for Tesco or Iceland easily, but I do like some variety in choice.
When are you planning on going out into the big bad world again mate, and shopping in store like you uses to? I know it's a ballache just now, but I just wondered if you've now resigned yourself never to go near a shop again?:)

No. But I'm not going into supermarkets until I think I'd be safe and that looks some way off. My age and recent 'indisposition' render me at risk.
On the rare occasion I need something from a shop, I pop in the local mini-mart if they're empty of customers.

Only if they sold her in the pound shops. But I would prefer to have her located outside my front door, where if she was posed a certain way could be very effective at scraping the mud off my wellies.

I don't believe it!! The Nigerian 'pirate' stowaways who hi-jacked the tanker in the English Channel a few days ago have been given bail. We all know what will happen now...........
They should be facing long jail time followed by repatriation (shame hanging for piracy is outlawed).

My partner was due to fly out of the country mid November.
With the lockdown here, and the destination country refusing to receive passengers, unless they are nationals, we set about trying to cancel the booking and get a credit note.
The booking company through which we bought the ticket have a very poor reputation regarding this; so I was somewhat apprehensive, despite having used them for the last 10 years or so without any problem. The problem we had was getting through to the UK office: none of the telephone numbers allowed one to speak to someone directly, they just gave links to do it all on-line - which of course failed.
Eventually, after much Googling we found a couple of telephone numbers for the head office in the US. Dialled the number and got a reply within a minute. Explained the situation, and after being put on hold for a couple of minutes whilst they went away to look at the T&Cs, came back to say we were eligible for a credit note, and after a minute or two received an e-mail of confirmation stating the value of the credit note, and giving a re-booking reference number.
So all well that ends well - but it did take a telephone call the US.
Glad you got it sorted out in the end, Barry. However, my advice for everyone right now is to STAY PUT and park their arse at home, unless it's a genuine emergency, until things improve with the Covid situation.
I simply wouldn't entertain foreign travel otherwise right now, under any circumstances.

We are going to stay put, but hope to re-book for, say, February next year. The credit note is valid until 31.12.2021.
The dilemma we faced was if flights were still flying, then wanting to re-book might (with some carriers) not be possible. Lockdown here and very strict entrance restrictions at the destination, meant we had very good reasons to justify requesting a credit note. Wanting a refund would have been very difficult to justify and would not have been granted.
We only had a narrow time window to act. Obtaining the visa, whilst straightforward, is time consuming and expensive. To have obtained one in time to travel, and then not to have travelled would have been a waste of money.
Yeah, totally get that. However, glad you're staying put, as it's the most sensible and safest thing to do right now:)

It was quite a bit quieter here yesterday than usual. Nothing like as quiet as the previous lockdown though.
There appears to be little change here in London, apart from all hospitality services which are closed, as are clothing shops, hairdressers and nail bars. In general the streets are only a little quieter.
Mobile phone and computer shops are open, but all transactions are carried out at the door - there is no going inside. The same with the coffee shops.

True - but I'm not attached to any particular label. So it doesn't matter whether it's Loake, Russell & Bromley, or Clarkes for shoes, or Aquascutum, Pringle or M&S for clothes - I still want to see them. "Never mind the quality - Feel the width".

We were looking for a long winter coat for her in a well known department store and looked at a coat sporting the label of a well established British brand costing almost a grand. Happy was aghast by the poor quality of manufacture, and saddened to see such a reputable brand 'cutting corners'. Moral of the story - even reputable brands cannot be bought 'on spec'. You need to see, feel and inspect the actual item.
Like Del, she likes to be pampered, and like you, I pick up the bill. :rolleyes:

Del's approach to clothes shopping is understandable and quite normal (for women).
But the Marco wardrobe surely only needs: wellies and sweatpants for leaf raking/snow* shovelling duties, flip flops, shorts and t shirts for summertime dossing about the house, and an apron for cooking (with nothing underneath). Oh and if you must leave the house for a bit of Acton Park leaf-kicking, a big overcoat to wear over your apron (again with nothing underneath) and worn back to front like Superman's deviant brother :eyebrows:
If you put that much effort into buying top quality, none of the above is going to wear out anytime soon, and I'm sure your garden squirrels couldn't care less if your shorts are 'last season'.
*While on the subject of snow shovelling, is it true that the police responded to complaints from your neighbours about you making "snow angels" while wearing a kilt? Just something I heard.

Lol - absolutely... And I know what Happy's like in that respect, as she's mentioned it to Del, again who's exactly the same. You probably know that she's got a degree in art and textiles, and also owns a loom, so can weave her *own cloth* from scratch, from which to make clothes of all sorts, from scratch from her own designs, and therefore readily spot shoddy workmanship a mile off!
Plus, during her time working as the assistant buyer for men's suits/formalwear, for House of Fraser, at their head office in London, supplying the likes of Harrods (accompanying the buyer on trips abroad to fashion shows, etc), she knows ALL about shoddily made clothes from 'designer labels'... Apparently, YSL were among the worst offenders!:doh:
TBH, if her career path had taken the direction she'd originally intended it to, she'd have become a fashion designer - and no doubt a successful one too, just like her German cousin, who now has her own label:)

Lol - yes, I'm 6ft 2 ins, but don't have the longest legs for my height. 32" inside leg. I also 'only' take a size 9 in shoes, not something ridiculous like some of my mates of a similar height or taller, who have size 12 feet!:eek:
My arms make up for it though, as they're rather long, consequently making jackets a problem to fit right. Del calls me 'Neanderthal man'!:D

I spend 90% of my time outside in trainers, or 'dress shoes' if I'm forced to, but only something that compliments jeans, as I hate wearing formal trousers, or indeed any kind of formal clothing whatsoever. 'Smart but casual' is my default look. I let Del do the dressing up. I like clothes to be loose and comfy. I'm the polar opposite of Barry, in that respect, as he loves being 'trussed up' in shirts and ties!:ner:

However, you'll only see me in a 'big overcoat' if the outside temperature is in minus figures. As a general rule, I don't 'do' hats, coats, gloves, scarfs, etc, as I hate being 'bulked up', and I don't feel the cold much. I don't even like carrying anything in my pockets... So the car keys (about the only thing I carry with me outside) go in Del's handbag!

If you mean make her own, she doesn't have the time now. Her job as an English college lecturer is rather demanding. When we first met though, she used to make and design wedding dresses for people, and all sorts of stuff, plus clothes for herself, like rather cute tartan mini-kilts, which still fit her now:eyebrows:
She's a size 8/10, but on past occasions has bought dresses in a size 6, and is only 5ft 2. Just a wee princess, lol!:D

I buy all clothes and footwear on line. Have done for over a decade. Never had any issues and you can always send them back if you do. Clothes shopping is the worst shopping to do.
Don't have slippers or a dressing gown. Always get fully dressed as soon as I get out of bed.

It all goes in the washing machine after a day (or two sometimes) and is ready to wear again in an hour if needed. I have loads of joggers and teeshirts.

I agree, I wouldn't have a problem buying online. As you say, they can always be returned. Unless you're a funny shape or super-fussy like some on here :)
I don't own a dressing gown, never have, but i do like my slippers. And they're great for saving money: When we went shopping for a new carpet, we found the really good stuff to be unaffordable. So I "borrowed" a sample, cut it into shapes and superglued them to the soles of my slippers. Job done ;)

In terms of buying clothes, each to his or her own.
I prefer shops, because a) I like to browse a 'physical stock', as something might just catch my eye that I hadn't planned on buying (I'm largely an impulsive shopper), b) I like trying things on to ensure that they fit properly, as things can vary rather wildly in terms of that, even though they are the same size, especially things like tops and t-shirts, depending on the cut, and c) I find online shopping a rather soulless experience - I like to get out and about and feel like I'm living in the real world, not cooped up in the house behind a computer.

crocs start cold but warm up fairly quick then stay nice n warm. great things for me are they are easy on/off, warmth and are waterproof too. also fairly non slip. as ive wide feet they are also very comfortable for me. i always get the ones with a back on tho. not good with backless flip flop type shoes or slippers.
Yeah sure, mate, whatever works. I just prefer something soft and warm to sink my feet into, not hard plastic, which doesn't 'give', (I don't find it comfy) and that's why I love me furry-lined moccies!:D
During the winter, both Del and I like to feel all wrapped up, warm and cosy indoors, so big fluffy dressing gowns, and for Del jim-jams and cuddling her furry cat hot-water bottle, are the order of the day. so we can cosy up together in front of the fire on cold nights.
In that respect, the thought of wearing 'stiff and starchy' outdoor clothes indoors, like Marty-boy does (and trainers:eek:), would be an anathema!;)
Mind you, my dad's the same, in that respect. He gets fully dressed as soon as he's up and stays that way until he goes to bed.

Yeah sure, mate, whatever works. I just prefer something soft and warm to sink my feet into, not hard plastic, which doesn't 'give', (I don't find it comfy) and that's why I love me furry-lined moccies!:D
During the winter, both Del and I like to feel all wrapped up, warm and cosy indoors, so big fluffy dressing gowns, and for Del jim-jams and cuddling her furry cat hot-water bottle, are the order of the day. so we can cosy up together in front of the fire on cold nights.
In that respect, the thought of wearing 'stiff and starchy' outdoor clothes indoors, like Marty-boy does (and trainers:eek:), would be an anathema!;)
Mind you, my dad's the same, in that respect. He gets fully dressed as soon as he's up and stays that way until he goes to bed.

I just wear trackies and a sweatshirt, not exactly stiff and starchy. And trainers are comfortable and light-weight. Might put a fleece on instead of a tracky top if it is really cold.

I find online shopping a rather soulless experience - I like to get out and about and feel like I'm living in the real world, not cooped up in the house behind a computer.

She is quite sympathetic to my plight, and can see when I'm losing the will to live - which is usually during the walk from the car park to the shops.
The only shops I'm interested in browsing are tools, hifi or record shops. For anything else I have a 3-step process: 1. Decide what I want to buy 2. Go to shop and buy it 3. Go home or to the pub.
I'm sure I'm not the only bloke who does this.

I don't know of any shops where you can browse for hifi. When I was younger I loathed shopping for clothes or shoes, now I quite enjoy browsing.
Shopping on-line is no doubt convenient, but as has been remarked elsewhere, you have to know exactly what you want and by whom the particular item is made: there is an awful lot or meretricious poorly made crap available, whose quality is difficult to assess simply by looking at a photo.
Also you loose the 'serendipity' aspect when shopping on line. The likes of Amazon may apply some fuzzy logic algorithms to come up with "Customers who bought (a particular item), also bought this/these". But that only suggests something similar. I like to go into a bookshop (an increasingly endangered establishment) to browse and come out buying something that caught my attention and came across by accident. That is the joy of browsing.

That is a sad fact of the times we live in, but I couldn't do that. It offends my sense of fair play.
I rarely do clothes shopping nowadays what with being pretty much housebound through illness. I used to hate sifting through the fat bastards section, a laughable selection of shapeless sacks and totally overpriced rubbish. Then I discovered that buying clothes from the U.S.A. was so simple. The sizes are actually properly worked out and the clothes are not just sized up versions of normal gear. The quality is usually very good and prices are much better than here, even if you include shipping and possible import tax and V.A.T. Delivery times are usually around a week to ten days and if I should need to return anything most big stores cover the return cost. It's quite nice to not need to buy the biggest size and hope for the best too.

That's fine, but we're quite different in that respect, both in terms of the influence of our respective lifestyles, and the things we enjoy. I'm at home most of the time, so like to get out into the 'real world' and interact with my fellow man, which is one of the reasons why I prefer shopping physically, but also because I quite enjoy shopping *if* it's for something I like - and *if* it's a relaxing, non-stressful experience.
And living where I do (largely away from any big cities and their associated crowds) and being able to shop at times outside of when it's busiest, even supermarket shopping is non-stressful and not totally soulless, depending on where I go. And unlike you, I really enjoy trips to places (such as we're discussed before) like Shrewsbury, to do the likes of Christmas shopping, as there are some really nice individual, privately owned shops, selling lovely things that aren't mass produced or available on Amazon, so I enjoy that and the whole 'vibe' of Christmas.

No, you defo won't be. Tools don't really interest me, as I'm not into DIY, so I'm far happier in a bric-a-brac or antiques shop, than in a tools shop, where I'd be bored within 5 mins. Record shops yes, big time. However, sometimes when we're out shopping, I've left Del to it, to wander round, and I wait for her in the pub and read a hi-fi or car mag, whilst enjoying a pint. It all depends on what she's wanting to look at.

So here in Manitoba, things are out of control at the moment Covid related. Midnight tonight everything non essential shuts down. Our own complacency (lack of) really as early on we were the North American model on how to do it right.
Anyway, I'm front and center as part of the health and safety planning committee, Provincial meetings, liaison between employees and their Doctors etc....but recently realized I wasn't really front and center which was an eye opening experience that I thought I'd share.
We've had a few serious outbreaks within our personal care homes. A recent event resulted in a shortage of staff to support the residents within. I volunteered as I have a medical background.......found myself gowned, gloved, masked..taking care of seniors who in many cases were incapable of taking care of themselves........and incapble of understanding what was happening and why they couldn't leave their room or why they couldn't visit with family (due to cognitive deficits).
I was there to help out with their most basic functions. feeding, toileting, dressing....etc. (there is certainly little to no dignity left for some of these souls) I spent a couple hours feeding this one Mennonite lady who jabbered at me in German the whole time....I don't speak German but regardless we had a great conversation and I think it was over all a positive for her.
Anyway, my point here with regards to talking about anything........was that I think we often take other peoples situations for granted. I've been in health care for 30 years.... a large chunk of that as a primary practitioner taking care of my own patients......and this was the first time I think the veil was lifted.
I have a new found profound respect for those working directly on the front lines....especially in these current rather bizarre circumstances we find ourselves in.
Sadly towards the end of my second shift, two residents tested positive (one no longer with us). The emotional impact on the staff was palpable, and I found myself supporting them as they dealt with the impact of people they had worked with for months and sometimes years. I then found myself immediately quarantined; having to tell my elderly mother and kids to find alternative lodgings for 14 days until I was sure I was clear.
I don't think I was ever overly concerned with myself ( I guess a bit) but the experience which was about 6 weeks ago......has left a profound impact on me. I'd definitely do it again in a heart beat.
Sorry for the ramble here.....in part it is due to sharing a bottle of red with my sister. LOL
Mum had a fall last wknd and fractured her pelvis (she has lived with me since this past April) Can't walk so I'm ferrying her around on my wheeled office chair to the bathroom and bed until healing is sufficient that she can weight bear. My sister, thankfully, came by and did the sponge bath thing........(some things a son should just not have to see)
Anyway, there you go......a ramble about just about anything. Typing this as mum and I listen to Ella Fitzgerald.
Ok I had followed this up with a big vent on our theoretical "leader" south of the border.......and then lost it.......I'll just pour another glass of wine instead.
I'm also having a deja vu moment that I've already said everything here in an earlier post. Probably best I not move on to dark rum.

Work been going pretty good recently, with several recommendations by email and on company's facebook page, naming me.
But this leads me onto relating a rather strange thing:
Last week I fitted some windows and doors for a rather attractive forty-something, who really looked after us with coffees and bacon butties. When i told her my name she said there are far too many Steves in the world. "His name's Steve," pointing at the plasterer), "my ex is called Steve, as is my current(?) partner".
Everything went well and after being paid a modest tip, she asked if she could give my details to some friends who need some work doing.
Then a couple of days later while dozing in front of Eastenders or some shite, I got a call from a witheld number. Don't normally answer these, but I was half asleep.
"Hello, is that Steve?"
"Yes, speaking."
"Watch yer f___in' back!"
"Is that Marco?"* I should mention he had a 'posh' Scottish accent, like he was from Bearsden or Morningside or Paisley. I dunno, I'm not good on accents.
But he'd already hung up. Mrs. P's theory was that I'd been nice to a customer, and a jealous spouse had found my name in her phone. Thing is I'm nice to everyone, but with so many Steve's knocking about at that job, that seems the likely source. I might just change my name - I've always liked George or Frank. Or maybe I'll have 'the procedure', and change my name to Stephanie. or Doris.

I've mentioned Anita (Mrs. P) loads of times, just not all the time. We do lots together, and also spend time doing nowt together. But we do also have our own lives to be getting on with - when Del is at work what are you two doing together?:)
And over the last 5 years she's been to about 5 shows/bake offs, that's 5 more than I've seen you, so there :ner:

There is so much to be said in favour of using local shops and services. It took BT and Open Reach six weeks to NOT correct a fault with my landline and broadband but I called a small, local company, they came out the same day, traced and fixed the fault and all for £60....bargain. After the bad weather recently my satellite signal was playing up, missing channels etc. Absolutely no help with the provider so again I called a local aerial and satellite dish installer, came the next day and found that the LND was broken and full of water. New LND £45 and £30 callout and labour. It's not just the great service I've had but good advice and recommendations for other tradespeople, word of mouth is better than all the flashy advertising.

You know you don't have to buy the overpriced tat, and as for numpties, well they are everywhere you look, and shows aren't immune. But I've met some of the forum members at them, including Firebottle and his wife Shirley, Allen (Audio Al), Ali Tait, and Mike (JacHawk), none of whom are numpties :).

That's the spirit Ian! The big companies you mention have vans, admin people, advertising budgets, and (probably) greedy shareholders. Smaller firms and one man bands often can't afford advertising, and rely on "word of mouth". Certainly is the case with me.
My brother works 3 days a week for British Gas, who pay him £240 a day, and provide all kinds of PPE, including wall anchors for ladders, harnesses, signs warning of his "work area", and no doubt plenty more stuff I can't think of, all because they're frightened of being sued no doubt. They also chuck a shitload of extra cash at him if he works too far away to commute. Guess who pays for all that crap :(
When it comes to services and retail, I firmly believe that smaller is better :)

A new procedure using tiny cameras inside a pill to help detect bowel cancer has been launched in Tayside.
The ScotCap test will be rolled out across health boards in Scotland as an alternative to a traditional colonoscopy.
The cameras take pictures of the lining of the bowel to look for any problems or signs of disease.
About 70,000 people in Scotland undergo colonoscopy treatment each year.
The programme, which is backed by the Scottish government, has been accelerated in response to the Covid-19 pandemic.
It is hoped the programme will help health boards tackle a backlog of patients and reduce waiting times.

One of biology's biggest mysteries has been solved using artificial intelligence, experts have announced.
Predicting how a protein folds into a unique three-dimensional shape has puzzled scientists for half a century.
London-based AI lab, DeepMind, has largely cracked the problem, say the organisers of a scientific challenge.
A better understanding of protein shapes could play a pivotal role in the development of novel drugs to treat disease.
The advance by DeepMind is expected to accelerate research into a host of illnesses, including Covid-19.
Their program determined the shape of proteins at a level of accuracy comparable to expensive and time-consuming lab methods, they say.
Dr Andriy Kryshtafovych, from University of California (UC), Davis in the US, one of the panel of scientific adjudicators, described the achievement as "truly remarkable".
"Being able to investigate the shape of proteins quickly and accurately has the potential to revolutionise life sciences," he said.
Proteins are present in all living things where they play a central role in the chemical processes essential for life.
Made up of strings of amino acids, they fold up in an infinite number of ways into elaborate shapes that hold the key to how they carry out their vital functions.
Many diseases are linked to the roles of proteins in catalysing chemical reactions (enzymes), fighting disease (antibodies) or acting as chemical messengers (hormones such as insulin).
"Even tiny rearrangements of these vital molecules can have catastrophic effects on our health, so one of the most efficient ways to understand disease and find new treatments is to study the proteins involved," said Dr John Moult of the University of Maryland, US, the chair of the panel of scientific adjudicators.
"There are tens of thousands of human proteins and many billions in other species, including bacteria and viruses, but working out the shape of just one requires expensive equipment and can take years."

I recently got an NHS text telling me to expect a shit-kit through the post any day now. Not a big fan of the "turd-on-stick" method, so I would welcome this technology. As Barry says, they do that for you Guy. I had the test two years ago, and a couple of weeks ago the NHS wrote to me to say I can expected another shit-kit in the coming days. Not quite worded that way. Yesterday it arrived :) It also said that we will receive one every two years up to the age of 74 I think.

Several years ago I was having trouble with "IBS", so was invited to have a colonoscopy.
On the day I was surprised to find that I could watch the procedure on a screen while two nurses fed the fibre optic in - quite fascinating to see. They took a couple of bowel lining samples for biopsy then started to pull the camera out but left the camera/screen turned on.
Absolutely hilarious (for me anyway) to see my buttocks, with nurses face peering over them appear in wide angle format on the screen :)
(Turned out my problem was lymphocytic colitis, and funnily enough all symptoms disappeared (thank God) directly after the procedure - I do wonder if the day on emetics prior to the examination had cleared whatever was causing the immune response :scratch:)

We got our tree yesterday, after much deliberation, as Del's really fussy about it being *just* the right size and shape, so I was in the garden centre rummaging through different ones and holding them up for her inspection/approval, and being met with 'don't like that one', 'no, don't want that one' - but EVENTUALLY she picked one she liked!:doh:
It's been sitting outside in some water, after I sawed the bottom off of it, to allow it to absorb some moisture. We didn't have time today to bring it and decorate it, as we were busy in the garden, but will be doing it tomorrow, and she's beside herself with excitement! She just LOVES Christmas...:)

It also takes her around 3 hours to decorate the (7ft) tree, which is filled with 100s of vintage baubles and all sorts. And then there's all the cards she hangs up. Typically, we get around 70 Xmas cards a year, which she hangs on the wall using a series of strings, held up by tacks.
I guess it depends on how much time and effort you put into your decorations, and how long you like to enjoy them for:)

She's currently fitting some cute handmade baubles, which she's made out of wool, in different colours (she'll also wear them on her hair at Christmas), to a little 'tree', constructed from twigs and other bits from our garden, which we've got some lights for, and goes in the kitchen window.
That's always where she starts (always been crafty)... The lounge and the main tree will be next! She's in her element lol, and hasn't really grown up. Bless:D

It was supposed to be Ireland this year but mother-in-law is in a nursing home and not doing too well - Ursula and her sister flew over yesterday and have to isolate for 5 days before a COVID test and, if this is negative, they can go and see her.
We’re going to Ursula’s sister for Christmas Day/Boxing Day which will be nice but also going to my sister for Christmas Eve as it’ll be our first Christmas without my mum, who died in September. Mum always loved Christmas and made it really special for all of us ever since we were children, hence why my Christmas spirit is slow to get going this year.
Don’t worry, though - I’ll get there eventually!

Christmas is for kids really. Us adults just drink and watch the footie and old films and go for walks to walk it all off.
My mum used to do brilliant Christmas Stockings. And brilliant Christmas trees. Even when we were teenage. Lots of chocolate, satsumas, little presents and, because she wasn't judgemental about our bad habits, 3 packets of Embassy cigarettes. Main presents were after the Queen's speech at 3PM. Bless her.
We always had Carols from King's College playing on Christmas Eve too. Occasionally went to midnight mass at the local cathedral too. Guess that one is out this year.
Christmas is for kids really.

We went to B&Q yesterday to buy 40 litres of masonry paint, and the place wasn't crowded at all with hardly any queue for checkout.
Quite different to the situation after the end of the first lockdown, when the queues at B&Q were stupid. Getting in wasn't too difficult, but the queue for the checkout was very long. Also the staff were unhelpful in answering an enquiry of mine about stock of floor tiles, so we just said "sod it" and left without purchasing anything. Went across the road to another tile supplier, where they couldn't have been more helpful. Their gain was B&Q's loss.

On the left is an old Chianti wine bottle, which she stripped of its labels and put some 'spangly' lights inside. Looks quite effective I think!:)

But yes, you're right much better than some of the crap you get in the shops, but most importantly for Del (as she's a major greeny), it's all made from stuff we had, recyclable and environmentally friendly:)

Cheers, mate. TBH, the pics don't really do it justice. This was the first time we actually measured the tree, and the area where it was going, to get it to fit right. Height isn't an issue, but width is, and quite often trees have a rather bushy and fat arse...:D
So we (or rather I should say Del) spent ages choosing it in the garden centre. I just lifted and stood them up for her approval or otherwise, until I got the message 'WANT that one!!':doh::eyebrows:
