Rubbish videolinking!
Have you noticed how many TV appearances via videolinking are badly thought out or not thought about at all? It's mainly backgrounds that get me, there was a guy on this morning who'd sat himself halfway across a large and slightly odd wall portrait which was totally distracting. Others come on TV from a total tip of a room in their house. I've seen all sorts of daft things behind folk on camera. Surely they can't lack the imagination to see that a plain wall or similar might be best?

I like how some bloke on Twitter wondered why Yvette Amos had a statuette of Piers Morgan on her shelf.
I use those backgrounds of book-lined shelves to be a good test of the resolution of one's TV (and of course of the camera in the laptop etc.). I like to see how many of the titles printed on the spine I can read. :)
But my big dislike is the frequent lack of lip-synch - I find it irritating and unwatchable. :(

Any decent TV should have an audio delay/gain function. I have to alter mine as I change certain system digital components; I think it's running at -110ms currently. Spot on it is.
If it's an expert in something who is being interviewed then it's customary to have lots of books in view behind them.
If it's a scientific expert then they might have some lab equipment behind them instead.
How else would you know they're an expert? Blank walls tell you nothing.
No doubt my telly has it, but would it mean I have to fiddle around changing the delay all time? For all broadcast items it is not needed; only for some video links.

Yes - I never came across the problem until the advent of broadcast video links. I assume it doesn't affect those involved; it's only when the link is broadcast does the problem arise. It's not consistent either, with some of the participants the delay doesn't occur (or if it does, the delay is so small I don't notice it).

It depends on the transmission. If it's analogue then there's no need for it. I never needed it until using streaming services. From then it's been quite handy, which is why they put the feature in I guess.
I don't think there's been analogue TV transmissions for a long time.
But I don't use streaming so maybe that's why I haven't encountered it.

Wisdom has it that your brand has to be seen as being inclusive and diverse. So really it's market forces. Or someone's interpretation of what the market forces are.
If they sell more oven chips they'll keep doing it. If they don't, expect a different style of ad campaign to come along soon.
I'll wager their research shows that 90% of oven chips are bought by women (or someone identifying as a woman).
So although us blokes (and those identifying as blokes) see the ads and scoff derisorily, women are more likely to think 'Ah that's lovely.'
Personally I've got more of an issue with that ad where a mature woman refers to her urine as 'wee'. I mean really?

Booze - whatever is the highest alcohol content to price ratio. Used to be peach or pear wine, no idea these days. Cider probably.

Ah I see... I wouldn't know, as I've never been in these places and wouldn't touch them with a bargepole.
I just wish the government would introduce a scheme to educate the masses on how to eat cheaply, but also WELL. And it *can* be done. It would not only improve their physical health (and bank balance), but also mental health/well being, in terms of the satisfaction of having made the meals yourself and feeding yourself and family more healthily.
All that processed shite also fucks with your head, in terms of your body's reaction to the chemicals. It's just SO BAD on EVERY level!!

Having been rather dependant on food deliveries in the last year, I have to say Iceland offerings have been as acceptable for me as any others, possibly better than some.
i admit to not having used them for some years, but when i did, it was pretty horrible stuff. think the cardboard packaging looked better. For cheap and quick soup if youve nowt much fresh, then emergency tinned veg works just fine. carrots especially. just mash them and fire into soup. have some good stock cubes(never cheap out on stock) even tinned new potatoes are ok in soup. Kibbled onion is useful to have in stock etc.
its all irrellevent if you can get the fresh stuff, but if you cant you can still make decent soup for very little

If you can afford to eat at Burger King or Maccy D then you're not struggling.
Nothing to do with intelligence, if you don't have the money it just isn't an option you'd even consider. Take-away food of any kind that is, not just those two.
Booze - you have no money for hi-fi upgrades but nothing improves the sound of a system more than a drop of booze. No need to get drunk, just under the influence. A bottle of peach wine would last me three days and it was only about £1.50. Still an expense you had to account for though.

We buy all our meat from the local butcher. There's simply no reason to go elsewhere, as it's handy, cheaper than the stuff in a supermarket, and FAR better quality - and we like supporting local businesses!:cool:

Just been easier getting stuff delivered being in the 'high risk' category (get my first jab later today). Only used that butchers as I was over that way at the dentist but will go back.

Just back from fairly local butcher: venison and blueberry sausages, treacle cured bacon, dry cure bacon offcuts (for making a tomato sauce), oak smoked gammon (to be boiled in home brew cider before short roast with mustard and brown sugar glaze), going back on Tuesday as he is getting some ox tail in for me.
Something very satisfying about getting home from the butcher - primal hunter/gatherer needs?

My mum's were legendary, mate. Made her own pasta from scratch, to start, then the filling and sauce... Just to die for. You'd have loved them!:)
But yeah, I wasn't a stranger to that stuff at that age - just a big difference in food cultures - and other favourites were veal escalopes, pan-fried in breadcrumbs, or veal chops, marinated in fresh rosemary and thyme from our garden, lemon sole with capers and butter [fish sourced from the village fishmonger], porcini mushroom risotto, chicken in white wine and tomatoes - homemade tiramisu, all sorts, mate.
I was eating well, long before I met Del. Just fortunate that her Welsh/German/Croatian heritage had a similar food culture [she'd also been brought up on home-cooked food, and indeed learned how to do things in the kitchen from when she was 4], and so I moved from living with one great cook to another!:D;)

The feel good factor alone, from getting out and about and meeting people you know, as we've built up a great rapport with our local butcher [Del takes him in a big bag of fresh herbs from our garden, which he either uses to decorate the meat on display or gives to his best customers], is wonderful, and the whole experience just more 'human' and real.
I've vowed that unless I'm disabled or ill to the extent that I can't shop physically, I'll never have stuff delivered. My dad's nearly 88 and still does all his own shopping, and wouldn't have it any other way, until he has no choice otherwise. I respect those who through ill health or disability can't shop physically, but have little time for all the lazy bastards who are plenty fit enough to go round a supermarket, but can't be arsed shifting their corpulent bottoms from the sofa!!:guns:

7 meg is fine for most things. To put it in perspective Netflix recommend you have 5 meg for HD video streaming. 25 meg for Ultra HD.

Lol - quality! Do you find it makes any real difference, though? I went from 250 MBPS, to around 600 (I've had 650), but with any of the stuff I was doing, even downloading movies:)

Only in so far as it saves a few seconds on downloads. I don't online game, but I do download a lot of data for work, so that's nice and easy. Some of the downloads are massive!

Openreach installed fibres to our bit of countryside last winter. There’s a box on the pole just a few hundred yards across a field at the front of us.
We ‘re currently connected via copper cables to a box about 3/4 of a mile away and have about 7MB - and it’s usually fine with Spotify, iPlayer or me downloading turntable p*rn, but it can’t cope with both of us working from home.
The final straw wax a couple of weeks ago when Ursula was on a Teams video call and I was trying to dial into a Skype meeting. The last time it crashed out , I got straight on the phone to EE and ordered their 100MB fibre broadband.
Being installed in a couple of weeks!

The US has agreed to suspend tariffs on UK goods including single malt whiskies that were imposed in retaliation over subsidies to the aircraft maker Airbus.
Tariffs will also be lifted on UK cheese, cashmere and machinery.
The duties will be suspended for four months while the two sides seek a long-term settlement.
On 1 January, the UK dropped its own tariffs on some US goods, put in place over a related dispute about US subsidies to Boeing.

Yep, those were the days when I got back to my Golf GTI at Glastonbury, to find the passenger window smashed, CD player missing ( a pull-out type that everybody stuck under the seat because carrying it round was a PITA), also the days when my parcel shelf went missing because it had two bin-lid size speakers, and about 40 CDs.
Everyone got their stuff nicked in the 80s, but as you say, replacements were readily available down the pub. No one ever offered me my own stolen gear though, which would have been nice :punch:

Did you have to budget for chips?
Worst night (and day of my life). I was woken at 02.00 to find my dog (Tia) having a seizure.
Took her to the emergency vet where she was given blood tests and sedation. I called back this morning and was told that bloods were all fine, so likely cause of fits was neurological.
Vet advised that it was "too early" to be thinking of putting Tia down, so she is now back home - she has had a couple of minor episodes during the day, so I am preparing myself for another rough night.
Really sorry to hear that. Guy, and as an animal lover who's been in that situation before, I sympathise with what you're going through.
Anyway, I hope Tia gets better soon and you can enjoy a more relaxed and stress-free day, and also night's sleep.

Then you've got your shows that were so rubbish they were good. Like 'Knight Rider' or 'Battlestar Galactica.' (The original not the reboot. The reeboot was rubbish but not rubbish enough to be good so it sort of missed both targets).

I remember me and my brothers attempting to get into the car through the windows. My dad went crackers about damage to the paintwork.
And the bloke near us who had a red Mk3 Cortina with the Starsky and Hutch white stripe on it. He'd not extended it over the roof though so it was a partial fail, but we still thought that was very cool.

I was only watching an episode the other day, stands up pretty well if you ask me. First couple of seasons do anyway. Proper escapist fun.
At some point TV shows stopped being entertainment and became lectures on diversity, inclusion, alternative lifestyles, feminism, and other tedious shite. Everything is so serious now, and so obviously conscious of it too. That's why I pretty much never watch anything made after about 1995.

I'm glad you haven't seen 'Unforgotten' then. What a load of absolute crap! Standard writing these days; white men are all kiddy fiddlers, any male member of the church is obviously a child rapist, all minorities are holier than thou, all good things are done by minorities, all white people are nasty criminals, all police are inept and over emotional (and come with a damaged relationship / damaged marriage / damaged kids / damaged parents) etc etc etc.
Utter garbage, complete piffle, and an embarrassment to screen writers and police officers everywhere.
I just stared at my phone whilst the other half watched through it all. What was a shame is that there were some excellent actors in all the series; Nicola Walker, Sanjeev Bhaskar, Trevor Eve, Neil Morrissey, Kevin McNally, James Fleet, Clare Goose - to name but a few. Obviously there purely for gravy train purposes.

Things may be rather the other way around. Unlikely as it will seem in this age of 'political overcorrectness', the government actually publish figures on Crime and Ethnicity. The statistics are as one might anticipate. A bit of Googling reveals all..........tricky to find though!

Interesting read though no doubt.
Daisy and the Charger were the only good bits, the rest was garbage - but at least it was fun garbage.

The car massively more so than her, IMO, as unlike many 'back in the day', for whom she was wet-dream material, I've never considered her as that special... Decent bod, but not especially pretty. She looks quite old, even now (in that pic anyway)!:D

Funny, my sister bought me a DVD of it as a joke a couple of Christmases ago because I loved it as a kid. Two things struck me on watching it:
(1) I must have been quite young when I watched it originally, as my only recollection of Daisy Duke was annoyance that she took screen time away from the General Lee.
(2) I don’t remember it being as rubbish as I found it!
I think Knight Rider has aged far better, frankly.
thought they were all crap tbh, but i guess i was maybe older, and catherine bach was probably the best bit. oddly a few days ago my sonn wanted me to pick up the a team on dvd for him. i got him a full set used on the bay for £19

I don't really get nags, just lists of WANTS. It's a princess thing.
