Speaking of legs, a guy I know always had a saying about nice long legs, “They just go up and up, and then make an ass of themselves”. Thought it was a bit strange, but there you go!

Well the skip which I ordered ten days ago finally arrived yesterday, and it is already half full from all the crap accumulating under the car port. Normally I take about 4-5 weeks to fill an eight-yarder, after which I just call the skip hire people and they bring a replacement. This is ongoing, and costs £210 each time. The hire is really for 3 weeks but they are quite lax about it. I know all that is set to change.
The price has increased to £225, and I just know they be coming for it in 20 days, filled or not. They are "experiencing unprecedented demand" right now, thanks to that shower of shits we call Lancashire County Council. No doubt it's similar everywhere else.
The council tips will only accept waste (which has to be specified) on an appointment basis. Our earliest "slot" is 29th June. I don't get why their workers should be a special case - social distancing shouldn't be an issue, as the tip staff keep away from you anyway, standing just close enough for you to read the "Here to Help" slogan on their hi-viz vests. :( And if you can buy crap legally now at a car boot sale, how is getting rid of it any riskier?
Chorley council reported a massive increase in fly tipping, now there's a surprise.

Hmm. Not sure how this pans out. Apparently, following but not specifically associated with a local BLM protest/demonstration, a Libyan man was arrested in Reading after a multiple stabbing subsequent to which there are so far three dead and eleven hospitalised. Maybe a BLM spokesperson will comment?

I hope so, it's the only fun part of the day. All of the nasal detritus is collected and baked into a pie. Whoever comes last in the "Burp the Alphabet" contest has to eat it.

Which reminds me of the ancient joke about Paul McCartney, when he was planning to marry for the third time.

Paul: 'Not after what happened last time'.
Just had a text from my hairdresser (who normally calls to cut my hair), informing me that she has all her PPE now, and so has booked a slot to cut my hair on 14th July!!:yay::yay::yay:
Still 3 weeks away, but after waiting nearly 3 months to have it done, then another 3 weeks will be no great hardship! It's as curly as fuck and doing my NUT RIGHT IN [kind of a cross between Shirley Temple and a mad professor:D].
The worse thing is feeling all that hair when I wash it, and then drying the fucker, especially down by my neck - all of which is absent with my usual 'styled prison trim'!
Anyway, pics to follow of the 'before & after', especially of the before at its worst, just before the hairdresser calls!!

I've just had my partner tidy up the back of my head using the trimmers on my shaver. :) I used to have a set of 'thinning' scissors (the type where the two blades have comb-like serrations), but I couldn't find them.

Lol - I have a strict rule of no-one goes near my hair but a qualified hairdresser! Of course, a light trim, such as Barry's referring to would be fine, but I'd rather just wait and have the whole lot done right:)

I have a mental picture of you feeding your hair through a slot in the door (like a letterbox), with your hairdresser on the other side cutting what she can reach :)
Not sure why your hairdresser is the only one allowed near it - I remember a picture you posted a year or so ago, where you were holed up in some Italian prison, with your prisoner number displayed clearly - what I don't remember is thinking "Ooh, that hairstyle is exceptional, I should get her number, see what she can do with my remaining three hairs". Actually looked like the number four Mrs. P used to give me :ner:

Ha - I've known this girl since around 1995, when she used to manage various salons, so a good friend now:)
She's the one who liked feeling the bass up her bum, when she sat on the back seat of the Brabster, right next to the sub:eyebrows:
Yeah, I'm fully aware of the picture you're referring to [in reality taken on top of the Dom cathedral in Cologne], in the middle of summer and when I was sporting my usual 'styled prison cut'.
Bear in mind that I normally have my hair cut as a 'No1', every 2 weeks, so it's always super-short. However, if left to grow, it gets very thick and curly at the back and sides, but not so much on top lol, as when I was a kid I had very thick curly hair!
What I'm super-fussy about is how neat it looks at the back, particularly the neck line. I can't stand anything that doesn't look as if it's been professionally finished and very neat. I've been on buses and trains too often, sitting behind guys and observing the 'hatchet jobs' someone's performed on their hair, or the results of a 'home trim' gone wrong...
So no, I just don't go there. Fuck that. You should know me by now - do a job right or not at all, so Ii I have a health problem, I see a doctor, a toothache, a dentist, and when I need a haircut I use hairdresser!

I know just what you mean, and it's exactly why I (a) learned to drive, so I could stop using buses, and (b) why when the hairdresser would hold the mirror to the back of my head for approval, I only pretended to look, and would simply nod, in blissful ignorance :)

Fitted a large window in a new build yesterday, which should have taken me about 2 hours. Unfortunately the builder who provided the sizes appears to have fallen out with his tape measure, making it into a four hour job :( Much too hot a day for that kind of nonsense.
The builder's name is Miles - I wonder if it's the same guy my brother sometimes worked with, whose shocking surveys earned him the nickname "Miles too big, Miles too small".
What about the SCUM, posing as 'human' who left all their rubbish behind at the Bournemouth beach yesterday, and because the public toilets were closed, shat and pissed all over the place?
I'd say fucking animals, but that would be an insult to animals!!!:steam:
'Parking' [more like abandoning] cars on roundabouts and on pavements too, and making the roads totally unsafe. I despair of what this country has become, and of the selfish behaviour of some of its populace.
I'm becoming increasingly ashamed of my country of birth, and would consider emigrating - but I'm too old in the tooth for that now.
Indeed, and the moronic imbeciles [mostly young hooligans] in Glamorgan, Ogmore-by-Sea, yesterday were even worse!!
I'd have tasered the fuckers, or set dogs on them. Just SHUT all the beaches and enforce that with a guarded police presence - END OF - as quite clearly these rabid vermin are incapable of behaving themselves.

So do they piss and shit on the beaches in Spain, too? I always knew there was something about the 'Torremolinos Experience' I was missing....

On the lunchtime news today the full horror of what these "people" left behind on Bournmouth beach was appalling, rubbish, clothes and towels and human waste. The council workers and volunteers were doing a brilliant job of cleaning the beach, they estimated 66 tons of rubbish would be removed. Brighton beach was left in a similar state. Do humans learn nothing. All these types seem to care about is when they can go down the pub and no doubt cause more misery to someone. Little wonder some other cultures view westerners as corrupt.
Do humans learn nothing...
They're not human, though... It's just a pity that the 'Track & Trace' smartphone tech is a joke, as if it had been good enough, I'd have used it to identify who had visited Bournemouth beach yesterday, and issued every one of them with a £100 fine to pay towards the cost of clearing up their SHITE [literally].

Boris says "don't overdo it" when the pubs open again tomorrow.
https://www.itv.com/news/2020-07-02/boris-johnson-to-warn-the-public-not-to-overdo-it-when-pubs-reopen-in-england
Naturally, we all know what will really happen. It will be a drunken free-for-all, with trouble left right and centre. The police will have a busy weekend, breaking up fights and dealing with riotous behaviour. The cells will be full and the courts inundated Monday morning...................of course, I could be wrong, but I doubt it.
Nothing surer, mate. You can always rely on the braindead masses for some unintentional amusement!
The only saving grace will be that the weather will be shit, otherwise they'd be back on the beaches in droves, this time pished up to the max.... Use of beer gardens/outdoor drinking will also be limited as a result.
Again, right now I don't see the attraction of going to a pub indoors, with staff wearing masks and face shields, social distancing and goodness knows what else going on to suck the fun from the experience, along with no doubt huge queues to get in!
So you can keep it, until things get remotely back to normal... It might be a better experience at pubs where there are large outdoor drinking and eating areas, but can you imagine how busy they'd be right now in good weather?
Nah, for the time being, I'll be doing my drinking at home in the peace and tranquility of my own house and garden!
Marco.
not into pubs at all now.. maybe an occasional bar lunch but drinking with toerags? no chance
Was looking forward to pubs opening and being able to get pool league running again. With all the measures in place i doubt ill be going anywhere near one for the foreseeable future especially wi no pool allowed, will invite cpl of mates up for a game instead.
Indeed, Pete. Before I'll be seen inside a pub again (when things have calmed down a bit, I *may* entertain drinking outdoors in ones with nice beer gardens, as we have a few good ones in the countryside here like that - but ONLY if they're not rammed full of plebs) until what I've come to know as a pub becomes so again, rather than an excerpt from a sci-fi disaster movie - and a sanitised and soulless one at that...
I'm no boozer, so don't simply go to pubs just to drink - I go to soak up the inviting atmosphere and vibe, which right now will be virtually non-existent! Same applies with restaurants. In a month's time, I'll re-evaluate the situation, once I see how things are going.

A mate of mine, who is by no means a big drinker, had a tradition of having a couple of hours after work on a Friday. Go about 5.30 - 6, go home about eight. He's managed to get a 'slot', tomorrow at 6pm. He had to book it online and was given a booking reference. For just him and his wife. He gets 2 hours, then it's adios till next week, if he can get another slot. I really couldn't be arsed with that, so I too will stay at home...
Indeed - what a load of bollocks.... The whole idea is that exercise is supposed to be spontaneous and at YOUR convenience!
Not sure they'll all be like that, though... I also heard about ordering drinks from the bar via some sort of phone app, as standing at the bar isn't allowed. What if you don't have a smartphone? An alien world indeed.
Marco.

No smartphone? That makes you the alien :ner: Sorry guys, I poked the bear again, and now I'm off to work :D
Here's another one: If you have to book your place online, be there at a certain time, and pay for your drinks with a card, there'll be all this information about where you are at a given time, what you're drinking and how much
Wetherspoons have had that for a few years.
Wether-whatty?;)
Chains ain't my scene, Roy-Boy. I wouldn't go there if you PAID me!
Marco.

Haha - aye, and a very PROUD "alien", too!!:ner: As no doubt will be many thousands of others... What about OAPs - I wonder how many who like(d) going to the pub for a pint will be ordering their drinks that way? What happens when the Wi-Fi goes down?:hmm:
Nah, when/if I go back to pubs, I'll stick to the small, family run places that still promote the use of SPEECH - you know the tongue you've got in your head, which you used to use to TALK to people?;) And where I feel like I'm in a normal space, not an extra in some sci-fi disaster movie!
Here's another one: If you have to book your place online, be there at a certain time, and pay for your drinks with a card, there'll be all this information about where you are at a given time, what you're drinking and how much
Exactly. Why do you think they're doing it? Covid is simply being used by the authorities as an excuse to spy on us more and monitor our movements and behaviour, with the aim of imposing control. It's more about surveillance than anything else, and anyone who can't see that is blind. It'll certainly be easier for Police to catch drink drivers from now on, though!
The interesting thing, however, will be seeing how long these measures [ultimately loss of our freedoms] remain in place and become the 'new normal' once this pandemic is over, and there's no reason for the virus to continue controlling our lives.... *THAT* is when you'll see the REAL purpose behind them in the long term!!
Marco.
I've read a number of articles about the pubs re-opening and there isn't one of them that mentions that you will have to order drinks via a smartphone. Although in some places you will be able to if you want to. So this is just a total non-story.
i hear it would be table service, but whether its just app to buy, or if they are using te irish style of waiters/watresses going around the floor i dont know. I got to like the irish system.. much more civilised..

It's not a non-story, because *some* pubs will be operating that system; indeed I've just watched the news detailing three of them who will be doing so and watching how it will work!:)
1) You have to book a 'slot' in advance (max 2 hours), and when making the booking provide all your details (name address, mobile phone number, etc).
2) When you arrive, have those details checked by staff, by providing ID, then join the queue waiting to be seated, as it's table service only.
3) Then you use the app concerned to order your drinks (from a list provided) and wait for someone to bring them over.
These are FACTS in some pubs now, mate. However, no doubt that not every pub will adopt the app thing, but it'll be interesting to see how many do, and whether that system becomes the 'new normal', if both the government and the pubs themselves like it once they get used to it...
One thing's for sure, the days of being able simply to 'pop in for a pint', when the mood takes you, are gone for the foreseeable future! And no way do I want to have to make a fucking appointment, just to have a drink!:mental:
Marco.

I never go to Weatherspoons because you can't have a lock in. Ten minutes after time and they're kicking you out.
I don't go to pubs much at all actually, not since my local closed down. Even completely ignoring the smoking ban and the licensing laws couldn't save them. The older clientele died off one by one and I think the youngsters were too scared to go in there.
The other one I used to frequent that also ignored the stupid rules changed hands when the landlord got busted for selling weed and smuggled baccy. Now it's some sort of 'student pub.'

Screw Wetherspoons - I loath their 'pubs': indifferent staff; indifferent beer; tables too close together (though I assume that will have changed), and the whole chain run by a stupid Aussie who stated that there was no need for any pub closure, because "during the War the pubs remained open".

Nightmare, mate. If you're living on your own somewhere, and have a nice friendly local pub to go to, become a regular there and build a rapport with the landlord and staff, it's a fantastic thing, especially for your overall sense of well-being. That personal touch and friendly relationship between the pub and you is priceless!
Now, for the foreseeable future, that's totally fucked... What personal touch, and ultimately sense of well-being, is derived from having to book an appointment for a beer, which you order via an app, and then are subsequently kicked out the pub after two hours - that is if you're graciously granted a 'slot' in the first place!
In reality, it's a totally soulless experience - mind you not as bad as the bullshit rules they've imposed now for weddings, which they've 'sanitised' to fuck and rendered now as devoid of any real enjoyment!!
Marco.
My local pubs used to be like that - the landlord would start pouring your pint when you walked in. In the words of the TV series 'Cheers', "it was a place where everyone knew your name".
Happy days - unlikely to return.

They've been keeping people up to date via their facebook group (they're very inclusive & welcome input/advice). No limit how long you can stay but you do have to book a table for 'busy periods'. Might venture down one night through the week when it'll (hopefully) be quiet.

Hear, hear! Can't stand any places of that ilk, which simply cater for the undiscerning masses, who's choices are driven by quantity and price, rather than quality and individuality. Every pub in the chain looks the same, the service at best is 'tolerable', and the food distinctly average (ditto the beer). I also have a major aversion to any 'eatery' where you're forced to pay for food in advance, and are treated simply as a 'number'!:nono:
No, such places are avoided like the plague, as I'd have more fun at home!
In terms of the pub situation now, we'll see how things pan out over the next 6 months or so, and where we end up then. I also intend to explore things locally, pub/restaurant wise, and see how the land lies at some of our usual 'haunts' (in England and Wales) - indeed whether or not they still exist! But I won't be doing that for a least a couple of weeks.
What I'm missing most is the weekly pub lunches I used to enjoy with my dad (and I know he feels the same), where we used to take a drive out to the country (although no more than an hour from home) to some charming and idyllic little pub, where not only the vibe and decor was great, but the food and local real ales! And I'm fine driving with one pint of beer, in conjunction with a nice meal, especially when it's enjoyed at a leisurely and relaxed pace.
QUALITY, not quantity! Even if I weren't driving, I'd have no more than a couple of pints, savoured and enjoyed slowly, whilst I have a nice chat with accompanying friends or family. Fundamentally, it's ALL about the EXPERIENCE... Not just going out to get boozed-up!
Plus also doing the very same with Del. I've missed that too, big time!
Quite often, when the weather was nice, we'd just decide on the spur of the moment to go somewhere like that for lunch or dinner, and if it was at a time when she was off work, we'd sometimes go somewhere a little further, off the beaten track, say to a nice country hotel, and spend the whole day there, go for a nice walk around the area/surrounding towns, do some sightseeing/shopping and later have dinner, then stay overnight.
This is one of our favourite such places: https://www.lakevyrnwy.com/ or here: http://www.eatdrinksleep.ltd.uk/
So hopefully, we'll be able to enjoy all that again sometime soon!
Marco.

Unfortunately, that wouldn't work for me, as I'm totally NOT a creature of habit!:D
Plus, I like pubs that serve 'guest ales'/craft beers, all of which change frequently, so I wouldn't know what I fancied until I got there... I don't really drink mainstream stuff, as I can get that anywhere:)
Btw, it looks like The Boat hasn't 'gone under' and will reopen again when the Welsh government allow so. See here: https://theboataterbistock.co.uk/re-opening-update/

Well the re-opening of pubs was a roaring success, in Blackburn at least.
Anita's son (Leam) used to work Saturday nights at his friend's pub before the lockdown. Last night he went back for the first time in four months. During the evening the police did spot checks on all of the town centre pubs, and one by one closed most of them down as the punters were really taking the piss, completely disregarding the measures the pubs were trying to implement.
By 9pm most were shut. Leam's pub voluntarily closed at 10pm as they could see where it was heading, with hordes of newly-ejected drinkers descending on the few remaining hostelries - the last couple of blokes entering seemed fine, but one went straight over to another man in the bar, punched him to the ground then left without even buying a drink.
I'll give it a week or two, then I reckon Boris Bed-hair will do a U-turn on the pubs thing. The out-of-town and eating pubs were probably behaving themselves, but it's another case of the dickheads ruining it for everyone, rather like Bournemouth last week.

We like hotels (nice ones, generally privately owned, which don't need to cost a fortune), but I wouldn't be going there!:nono:

Had a late one last night (no change there) so put my rubbish bags out just before I went to bed at about 3, one orange bag with cardboard, paper & recyclable plastic & one black bag. When I got up at about 8 this was what was on my drive
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50087905207_20f90d04d2.jpg
Didn't go too close because of covid but these orange bags all looked to have non-recyclable stuff in so if the dustmen won't take them I'm stuck with them! Just to cover myself I reported this 'flytip' to the local authority.
I'd noticed that my neighbour had been sorting out stuff in her conservatory, it had been floor to ceiling crap but I happened to look last night & it was nearly clear so it didn't take Poirot to work out where the additional rubbish had come from.
Now luckily the dustmen weren't fussy and just took the lot but when my neighbour came to pick up a parcel I'd taken in for her (see, I even do her favours!) I asked her about the rubbish that had appeared. She denied all knowledge & said it had happened to her! I just said if these cheeky f***ers try it again & I catch them I'll make them eat it. Was I out of order?
I would have put on some rubber gloves and chucked the bags on her conservatory roof.

Order the biggest vibrator you can find online, and have it delivered to your address, but with her name. Then when it arrives, open it before taking it next door. Apologise for having opened it by mistake, and watch her face as she looks inside. Important: do not use your own credit card to purchase it :)

TIHMB listening to the 42 yr old copy of Trick Of The Tail, by Genesis on my modest old AiwaAp2200 (with Grants old Shibata AT95 cart and stylus on it :eyebrows:)and loving the little crackles that I put there with an old Ferguson stereo yrs ago !!
Great album and one of my all time favorites !!
And wondering if Audio Al has forgiven me for suggesting the Aiwa was a good deck for the money ( I am well past the envy /want another TT stage now !!) :)
Good cart that Anton
Sure is Grant - I have been using the other Aiwa TT I had for £60 ,so went back to the £40 Aiwa 2200 with your stylus in - it just sang somehow ,the conical Aiwa was nice but having chopped back ,I noticed a big difference (mind you , may have been the setup !!)
Are you keeping ok up there ??:)
Well I'm still alive mate [emoji23]. I wouldn't recommend it tho
Well the camera turned up today, dead easy to set up & records a portion of video when it senses motion which it did for every passing car but didn’t record me backing off the drive, closer to the camera
Impressed with the picture quality

& here's the video of me coming home (there was a smart light on in the room otherwise the video would be clearer)

Not bad for 18 quid.

Enough cash left to get the van washed :ner: Seriously, that looks really good, where did you get it? I want one
Amazon, but it’s gone up to £22, still good value at that price I think.

I've ordered a cheap but well reviewed motion sensitive camera which probably means this will never happen again.
No extra rubbish bags this week so the above statement will probably prove accurate
And now for something completely different:
The hinge on the toilet seat broke this morning. Popped out to a nearby building hardware store, and ten minutes later the seat and cover were replaced.

At last, my field of expertise! A bit clueless with hifi, but I know a good toilet seat when I sit on one. I got tired of annually replacing Anita's £10 bargain bogseats, so I went out and splashed out 30-odd quid on a Beamis jobbie. Six years later it's still going strong :)

This is what graces the botty of the great one: https://www.ukbathroomstore.co.uk/toilets-and-sinks/toilet-seats/heritage-graphite-soft-close-wc-seat-tsgra101sc
;) [Basically, it goes with our black & white 'art deco' inspired bathroom]. Perish the thought of allowing plastic anywhere near my delicate wee bum!
Marco.

They don't last any longer than say a £30 seat. I know to my cost, although the one we had was of a different colour. The problem is they are made of MDF, not a solid hardwood.
I think the base is pine, with a 'posh' hardwood veneer of choice, so still made of solid wood.
And besides, you know how long we've had our black and white bathroom for, with said seat (must be a good 15 years now) and it's still going strong... Plus, aside from that, wood is a damn sight warmer than plastic to put you bum on!:D
Marco.
Taken from the www.ukbathroomstore.co.uk website:
Construction: Lifestyle - Foil finish bonded onto MDF Realwood - Use natural real wood solid timber or veneers.
I've never found a loo seat too cold to sit on, unlike the electrically heated seats favoured by the Japanese. Horrible things - I always switched them off.
Yes, but what do they mean by "MDF realwood", which is somewhat of an oxymoron, and the description afterwards is a little ambiguous to say the least...
It doesn't really matter though as Del and I hate plastic [which might not feel 'cold', but isn't as comfortable to sit on as wood], and when you're spending the best part of £20k on a bespoke-designed bathroom, it seems somewhat churlish to quibble over an extra £100 for a bog seat!;)
Marco.
MDF - medium density fibreboard. The fibres are wood, so they can get away with saying it is made from "real wood"
You won't get splinters in your bum with plastic loo seats; and they are easier to clean.

Oh no, an electrically heated bogseat is just wrong, it would feel like it has been recently vacated, something I avoid at all costs. The important thing with toilet seat longevity is decent hinges, and lightweight plastic seats never have them

used to get freezing bog seats in winter.. everyone wanted to be after mum... she had the biggest ass:eyebrows:

Lol.... Well, nothing is difficult to clean if you clean it properly and often enough!;)
Our loo seat, like the rest of the loo and bathroom (along with other key areas of the house) are cleaned daily - my job:)

A very good point and another reason why we don't 'do plastic'....
And of course for you and me, we need something suitably robust to withstand the force of our fart gas!:D
Marco.
i need a new seat and whole bathroom decorated tbh. its not gonna happen at moment tho, and its just me that sees it

I wonder what you would think of all the other extras of Japanese loos: calming music played whilst you go through the motions (presumably to mask 'embarrassing noises), and bidet-style douche water jets carefully aimed at your derriere afterwards?

I bring my own tunes. The toilet would have to play 1812 Overture to keep up :)

We went to one of our local pubs for a meal yesterday at lunch time, so nice to be out and supporting the local watering holes.
I left a decent tip for the staff as they must have been struggling during the lockdown closure.
Nice one, Alan. I'll be doing the same tomorrow. How did you find the overall dining experience with Covid restrictions?
Marco.
We've been eating out for lunch since Thursday last week.
Also had a haircut last Thursday, and this morning my partner had a manicure and pedicure.
Went shopping in London's Oxford Street yesterday. Normally it would be very busy, but it was quiet. Most of the shops had hand sanitiser available at the door and a one-way system in operation. It won't be so enjoyable when the use of a face coverings becomes mandatory.

pity the product was gash
you just had to smell them alone... tasted even worse.. ghstly things... not that i was into them, but i has a boss who smoked them constantly.. stank the place out
These were my favourite back when I could afford to smoke them - Santa Damiana Gigante:

My old man used to sell them in the shop, along with Villager (was it?) and something called 'Cafe Creme', or something like that. I used to sell them in school, during 5th and 6th year (to teachers and fellow pupils), along with all the favourite fags of the day - made a nice wee profit:D
Better selling 'em, than smoking them!

Normally quite laid back about things, but this bit of news has really got me dander up, heard on the radio this morning: Cadburys are to reduce the size of four of their chocolate bars, to get their calorie count below 200. But the price will stay the same :steam: This really takes the piss, and up with this I will not put, we should all boycott Cadburys products... who am I kidding, I'll still be buying them. But I will be eating them with an angry face :(
Boycott them - along with Rowntree (now part of the Nestlé group).

I'm probably the only person in the world not to like salted caramel, but I think caramel is perfectly good without salt. Similarly I wouldn't care for Victoria sponge cake if they swapped the jam for ketchup. Sweet things should be left sweet.
Neither am I happy with the assumption that everyone likes mayonnaise on their sandwiches. Disgusting stuff :spew:

Just buy the £1 bars they do, still 500 calories in them.
Went in the other day and they had no Cadburys or Galaxy left so bought a 'Euroshopper' bar as a last resort. Turns out it's actually 'proper' chocolate made in Germany - bloody lovely.
