Diabetes caused I think by continuing to eat as a bodybuilder, but not training, ie. eating too much out of habit.
You might be surprised that most forms of diabetes are actually hereditary, and not solely diet-related... Has anyone in your family suffered from it [even going back a generation or two], Dennis?

A few days recuperating in a hospital hammock with Nurse Bev on call (with her thumb ring)...that'll see you right :) Even if it makes things worse it may still be worth it. I've heard she looks a bit like Joanne Whalley in "The Singing Detective" :eyebrows:

I did get the hammock put together today in-between the rain and it's a lovely thing... actually not difficult getting in & out of as I thought it might be... Colin gave me some gentle rocking like being at sea and it's great... one of my better purchases I reckon..;)
Don't think I especially look like Joanne but do have dark hair like her... mind you I've got about 3 colours in my hair at the moment.. all quite subtle though

I'll tell you something I've never said out loud before - when I was younger I had a 'thing' for women in flip-flop type sandals, that slapping noise they made I think. But then years of seeing women going round Morrisons doing their big shop in flip-flops, but also wearing leggings that made their legs look like two piles of burnt crumpets ruined it for me :(

I happen to really dislike the flip-flop sound... I am wearing sandals that look a bit like flip-flops, with the toe bit, but mine have a bit on the heel as well so they don’t make that horrible sound...
Leggings of any kind are just nasty things... I maybe wore them when I was much younger but wouldn’t be seen dead in them now. Shortish skirts are my thing, especially if we ever get some sort of summer... I’m still wearing them though just in case... you have to be prepared :lol:

I do have a thing for feet. No, I don’t want to suck toes or any of that weird stuff. But I do appreciate a woman with attractive, petite feet. And I honestly cannot deal with a woman who has big feet! That to me is a real turn off. There was a woman years ago who followed the band, and she wasn’t too hard to look at, but she had huge bony feet! And her second toe was the longest one, I’m sorry, I just couldn’t do it. In town it’s like nearly all women wear flip flops, standard uniform. Personally, I like to see a woman in heels, a woman with nice feet, in a pair of heels, is very fetching in my book.

I like women who look after their feet (and everything else), and keep them soft and supple - no yellowy hard skin, cracked heels, fungal nail infections (lol, puke) bunions or any shit like that... If a women goes barefoot (or for that matter wears sandals, etc), then she should at least ensure that her feet look pretty - all over! :exactly:

Yes I remember the type! I grew up in the county, where it was cool to be country. Lots of people went barefoot, including myself at times. My ex wife was always barefoot, she would walk outside in the snow in bare feet if only to the mailbox. But, she had small feet, size 6 in the US, (I’m not sure what size that is in Europe?) and when it was time to dress up, she knew how. And could walk in heels very naturally, not clomping around like a Clydesdale, as so many women today who never learned to walk in heels. But when we dated I was 17, she was 18, and barefoot in jeans was her everyday look. The 70’s were a great time to be young! We were very lucky to have been there.

Ha - indeed, but I still remember most of the 70s with some fondness!:)
The nice thing about being a young child then, in a comfortably off environment, was that you weren't exposed to any of the hardships of the 70s (such as Grant mentioned), had you been an adult having to work in some of the bollox conditions, dealing with strikes, etc. I never experienced ANY of that, only the good things (of which there was plenty during that era, if you knew where to look and weren't short of a few bob).

I know it has been said before, but when you're in the middle of it, you don't notice it so much, when everyone around you is experiencing the same. Not so good for those who were already suffering real hardships though.
Indeed... As I said, I never experienced any of that, as a) I was way too young, and b) my dad at the time was running his own very successful business, so we were shielded from a lot of the stuff others had to go through.

As a teenager, I worked and had my own money, and my own car. My parents had closed the car port in to make a room, and I adopted it as my bedroom, so I had my own outside door. On more than one occasion a young lady would sneak into my room at night, and be gone before morning when the folks woke up!
Because I worked, my folks left me alone! I was treated as an adult, and I paid my mom rent. Even the police were very lenient back then, I can’t count the times I was more than tipsy, and the police would tell me to go straight home! In fact, I was married and living on my own before I got my first ticket.
Every weekend there was a party somewhere, if someone’s parents were out of town, and if not we had places deep in the woods where we had bon fires, and it was nothing for 100 people to be there! And the cops didn’t dare bust the party, as their own children were there, usually the worst of the lot. Liquor was for sale to 18 year olds, and I bought beer from the time I was 16, no one ever bothered to card you back then. And most of our parents had no clue of the drugs that were an every day part of life for us teenagers. A time of free love! Every weekend, each girl was on some other guy’s arm, a rotation of sorts. No one seemed to care.
When the 80’s came around, about the time I got married, there was a huge push to end this lifestyle. They raised the drinking age to 21, parents were being arrested for throwing keg parties for graduations, and cops started writing tickets for the slightest offense. These back wood party spots were chained off with no trespassing signs. Although nearly everyone I grew up with turned out to be hard working, tax paying citizens with good jobs and educations, the government pushed the narrative that anyone who behaved as we did was a no good, lazy, criminal with no future. I am so glad I grew up before they ruined everything, and feel fortunate to have been there, when life was good!
Anyone see the movie, “Dazed and Confused”? It was a bit like that. Visually, that’s pretty much how it looked. I even drove an El Camino!

Most people remember the movies, but I recall all the old albums of audio comedy, the album Big Bamboo came with a huge rolling paper in it! How many times we listened to, “Dave’s not here”, and, “Earache my eye!”, “Ve are killing ze girl tonight, olt man”, back then it never seemed to get old, every time a new person entered the room we’d start the record over. Until one day, the government told us it wasn’t funny.

I’m sure it wasn’t too bad in the 80’s, but the partying crowd just had to be more careful, and couldn’t gather in the numbers we did in the 70’s. My daughter was part of the party crowd in the 00’s, but they really had to keep a low profile, and only gathered indoors. She was a chip off the old block. And is doing very well for herself these days, I might add.
My niece and nephew were much later, they are only now 22 and 24. Their entire lives were orchestrated. After school activities, soccer practice, private schools, etc. I bet they’ve never even seen a joint! They think of me as their crazy old uncle, in fact I’m rather surprised that they are as fond of me as they are, good kids really. They already make more money than I ever did.
And good for you on taking good care of your feet! You’d be surprised at just how many people take notice! I try to keep mine covered up in mixed company.

I didn't come into it until the early nineties by which time I was a thirtysomething. Made me the oldest swinger in town, but no one minded. I imagine you being a bit of a ravehead at some point, don't spoil it by saying you weren't :)

Certainly in 87 I was having a lot of fun... I was earning a decent salary and was sharing good times with a guy, including a fair bit of 'substance' I guess...
Funny you should mention about being the "oldest swinger in town" as I was much the same. My work colleagues were all younger than me but I was the one having the most fun when we were 'out on the town' as it were... :eyebrows:
Best early years for me, when I had most fun as a youngster, were from 79-83. So many great memories during that era, for all manner of reasons!:D:eyebrows:
Before that, I was really too young to have gotten up to anything that exciting. Would've loved to have been, say, 16 in 1963.... As knowing what I know now, I'd have loved to have been in the thick of things from then, right through until the late 70s. A veritable golden era, IMO:)

I’m healing fine Nina, today I went walking without my cane. Just small steps, pushing myself just a little. My next visit with my surgeon isn’t until August 8, so I guess that means I’m in the slow lane right now?
And I’ve thought the exact same thing Marco, I always felt I was a decade too late! If I’d been born in ‘52 rather than ‘62, I’d have been happier with the world at large. Happier with the music, happier with the times, the fashions, and, um, party favors. But all things happen for a reason. Once out of school, I instantly became friends with people much older than me, people I met at work. Many times they were surprised that I knew the words to songs that were, “before my time”.
And I’ve just learned that I’m not only a good uncle, but I’m going to be a Great Uncle! Yes, my niece is pregnant, 8 weeks apparently. She and her husband are such good looking people I’m sure the baby will be gorgeous!

But then you might have been drafted in to fight in Vietnam.
There are obvious times/places that were not good to be born in (most places in Europe in the run up to WWII if you were Jewish, for example, or China during the Cultural Revolution), but for the most part, family circumstances and individual personality traits count for far more than the coincidences around the year in which you were born.
You make a very good point! While I see things a bit differently now days, in my youth I was very anti-authority, and I’d have wound up in military prison before I ever got to Vietnam. I guess things did work out for the best. While I think back and see things I should have done differently, if I had to do it over, I’d probably make all the same mistakes. And I wouldn’t want to do anything that may have caused my daughter to not be born, or be who she is today. She is the one thing I got right! And the single greatest accomplishment of my life.

My mate who has a Mitsubishi tipper truck for his building work tells me he is on the lookout for that kind of truck. All his work is quite local and only does about 50 or so miles a week. So doesn't care about mpg. I'll post on here how he gets on.

Well if he does, remind him that it'll be left hand drive, slow, incredibly noisy inside and depending on age, it'll have limited spares availablility and what he can get will be pricey. The drum brakes will be terrible to the point of being dangerous. There'll be no power steering and likely a terribly tired and vague column gearchange. Quite probably a beam axle at the front leading to appalling steering/handling. A hefty cast iron block engine at the front and a light back end meaning that it will try to spin around if he boots it and will probably fly off through the nearest hedge at the slightest excuse. Not that he'll be able to open the throttle much without the back wheels losing traction and spinning anyway. The ten MPG won't be too useful either and even 'classic' insurance could be steep.
Other than that, it's all good news though :D.

My parents, 25 years older than me, were right in the thick of the 50’s. They went to the juke joint every weekend, and did the jitterbug! And I’ve seen it, man they could dance! They said people would clear the floor for them, as they walked the dog! They went to drive ins with the waitresses on roller skates, and my Dad tells the story of the first time he ate Pizza, he couldn’t figure why anyone would put cheese on a pie? It seems no one knew what it was, but he and some friends got brave enough to order one, and it was love at first bite. A time of great prosperity, wives didn’t work, they didn’t need to. Truly a simpler time.
All the very cool cars of the 50’s and 60’s were just about old enough for us to afford by the time I got my license, and 10 to 17mpg was the norm. But it didn’t matter, gas was only 28cent a gallon. As a teenager, I’d fill up the tank, and drive all night long! We were drinking and doing other things, so we didn’t dare stop anywhere, and while that sort of thing is frowned upon these days, back then, after 11pm, you could drive all night and never see another car! I literally drove 100mph everywhere I went. I’d take my big V8 powered 1972 El Camino, and find a long winding gravel road deep in the county, and “Power Slide”, the whole way, back end fish tailing, literally going side ways through every turn! Wow those were fun times! A friend of mine had a ‘67 Malabo, another a ‘65 Ford Galaxy, another had a ‘68 Dodge Dart with 383 big block! And a good friend got some insurance money from an accident, and bought a ‘69 Mustang with the 390 big block, with a triple Duce carb, at the time a very expensive car. They were all overpowered death traps! With tiny shocks, drum breaks, and huge gas guzzling motors. It’s a wonder any of us lived! Looking back, I wouldn’t change a thing! I wish I had the foresight to stash a few of those old cars away!

As I lived near two US bases in the sixties and seventies, I used to see all the classic American muscle cars on the road when they were new.
I also saw them on the drag strip at Santa Pod in the production classes regularly and know how quick they are.
In standard trim, the 426 Dodge Challenger was the one to beat, the 454 Corvette was none too slow either.
(Yes, I know about the 600bhp SOHC Boss Mustang, but that was very limited edition to order only and a bit later :))

The big bruisers don't really appeal to me. OK on the drag strip, but too juicy and brutal for everyday use.
A '70 Chevy Nova SS would do me nicely. The 350 small block V8 is a good punchy unit and packs enough power. Plenty of modern goodies available to uprate the brakes and suspension etc too.

Yeah, I'm with you on that, Geoff. That would make a more practical everyday car, and cool too, but if I had to choose just one, it'd be a toss up between the Barracuda and the Dodge Charger...
For me, the 'cuda wins on looks, so it would be down to which one I preferred to drive more (ride quality, road handling, acceleration, and of course level of engine GROWL:eyebrows:) Top speed isn't that important, as long as the car was capable of at least 150mph, but it'd have to be an UTTER ANIMAL from 0-60!!

Have you never considered having the Brabster done in matt black? There are quite a few cars around these days that have had a 'vinyl wrap', usually matt black, although I recently saw an C63 AMG in matt olive green, which was pretty bad ass, and not as gross as you might think. Especially with all the chrome bits black.
The wraps are supposed to be a lot cheaper than paint, and if you wanted to at a later date, you could have it removed with no detriment to the original paint (they say).

I think it all depends on the car and the body shape. The first time I saw a matt finish (on I think a BMW) was in Cameroon. One would expect a bit of 'bling' there, but I have to say it looked very stylish and certainly a bit different from the rest. I did wonder at the time how well the matt finish would last and what would be the best way to maintain it.

My sister drives a Boxter. In fact, she’s on her second one, this one being Canary Yellow, with a manual gear box. She still likes to sport around, Mom says it makes her neck hurt to ride with her.

There are still plenty of these for sale in the US, for the right money of course. Many were sold still in the crate after the war, it took many years before these crated Jeeps were auctioned off in lots, many who bought lots sat on them for years, knowing their prices would go up after a time. So back in the late 50’s and early 60’s there were still Jeeps in the crate being sold.
The same thing happened with WMA 45 Harley’s, (45 cubic inches), my uncle bought one in the crate for $50, way back when, long before I was born. My cousin has some killer pics of he and my aunt looking like hooligans on it.

Haha... It's already had 'decent wheels' fitted since then (see below). The original ones were Brabus, and fine for the car, but as I started to further optimise the car's performance, I heard about Rotary Forged wheels, from a company in the States called Mandrus, who make bespoke wheels for Mercedes cars. A process that dramatically reduces weight, thus rotational mass - and the difference was palpable!

Big difference afterwards, in terms of how quickly the car planted power, delivered to the back wheels (remembering that it's rear wheel driven). onto the road, and in terms of overall acceleration and road handling, especially later when they were fitted with Michelin Pilot Sport 4s tyres!:eek:
Plus, I think the Mandrus wheels look really cool!
Also since then, I've had EBC GD Sports (drilled and grooved) rotors fitted: https://ebcbrakes.com/product/3gd-sport-rotors/ with Yellowstuff pads. The cumulative effect and improvements gained from upgrading the wheels/tyres/discs and brake pads, in terms of how the car drives and handles/stops, was very significant, as from standard it was fitted with lowered sports suspension, so everything now works seamlessly in unison.
It's really a joy to drive!:)
Anyway, it must just be the matt-black paintwork that makes that M3, in your opinion, look like a rappers/drug dealer's car, because the Brabster's got the same windows and a very similar look overall, *yet* you think it's a "lovely car", so how exactly does that thinking work?;)

As to the CLS, itself, it’s a lovely thing, although I prefer the shooting brake to the saloon. Not a fan of the blacked out badge and the like, though. If I wanted a sporty car I’d want a proper sports car or GT, not an executive saloon/coupe dressed up to look sporty.

Why? If *done right*, i.e. professionally, not a cheap bodge. I only ever carry out the former, done by experts in their field, and so providing that the replacements fitted are fundamentally better, it results in a better performing and nicer looking car!
The Brabster was good when I bought it, but trust me, it's not only much faster now, since the bespoke remap I've had done to the engine (by my mate who writes mapping software for NASCAR), straight through stainless-steel quad exhaust system, from Longlife (DPF/EGR delete), and various other bits I've done to the engine, but with the other mods I've carried out, it HANDLES and reacts/responds to the road so much better now, so what's not to like?:scratch:
Including the kickass sound system I've installed (designed and fitted by a professional car-audio installer), and which looks factory fitted!
The end result is a bloody quick and lovely car to drive. If I'd tried to buy a car with all that stuff fitted from new, it would've cost a fortune, even if it were possible, so this way I've added them bit by bit when I wanted, ensuring that every time something new was added, it was much better than what it was replacing.
So please explain what's "wrong" about any of that?:)

I personally think that a lot of (but not all) styling modifications make cars look worse and, as an engineer, when it comes to performance modifications, I prefer to trust the R&D teams of experienced car makers who have large budgets rather than a bloke in a shed with a laptop. Same with hi-fi, which I think comes from the number of times I've had to repair modified equipment, because the (often expensive and highly praised) modification was carried out by a clueless numpty with seemingly no basic electronics knowledge!
Oh, and as to the likes of Brabus and AMG, these are official Mercedes-sanctioned tuning houses, so I have no problem with them, or their accessories! You're off the hook on that one! ;)
On the aftermarket car stereo front, as a former car loudspeaker designer, I know what goes into the installation and tuning of ICE, so I despair at the sort of people who just bang a couple of 6x9s into the front doors and a sub in the boot and think this is audio nirvana. I've read your car stereo journey and it's hugely impressive, clearly done properly and I bet it sounds superb but, again, my CDO just hates non-standard stereos stuck into car dashboards!
And finally, you know me well enough to know that I can't let this one go...

I completely agree, as that's often been my experience, but you should know me by now, and that if I do something, I do it right!;) I hate cutting corners and detest 'bodges'. However... In terms of that last bit, which I've highlighted, remember that whilst what you're saying is right, *everything* is ultimately built to a price.
Therefore, if you enlist the services of a professional (expert in his field), who understands the electrical and mechanical requirements of the car concerned and where *genuine* improvements can be made, and replace cheaper stock parts with superior specialist ones, so that all modifications are done in sympathy with how the car has been designed, then quite simply, there are NO downsides - and that's exactly what I've done.

Sometimes though, even Brabus and AMG parts can be bettered by those from other high-quality, specialist manufacturers, when you're not paying as much for 'the badge'... A case in point being the stainless steel quad exhaust system my car's been fitted with from Longlife, see here: https://www.longlife.co.uk/performance
Trust me, when I had the car remapped, by a mate who runs a professional car tuning company, and who *really* knows his stuff, I wanted to do a DPF/EGR delete at the same time, as I know what a bottleneck that is to performance, so we looked at replacing the existing Brabus SS exhaust system, which had a back box and DPF fitted, with a straight-through type from Longlife, as shown above, and for him to do the remap in conjunction with the new exhaust system, in order to maximise engine performance.
And I can tell you that both in terms of engineering construction and performance, the bespoke-built Longlife exhaust system outperformed the Brabus one! No contest really... So it's not always the case that companies that are "Mercedes sanctioned", or whatever, are the best:)

And as for the sonic performance of the aftermarket stereo system versus what was in before, let's not even go there, as it's utterly laughable!! So yes, you're right, it was done properly, and also at some expense. But, as I said before, if a job's worth doing, then it's worth doing right!

Congrats! As the old saying goes, “If I’d known how great grand children are, I’d of had them first!”. My daughter is holding out, too involved in her career, but I keep hope. Such names give children character. I recall a country song from my youth about, “a boy named Sue”, apparently his father gave him this name to make him tough.
I’m sure a nickname will take hold very soon, although I’m not sure what nicknames there are for Dolly? Hopefully she’ll be pretty enough that no one will worry about her name, and her friends will be too young to remember the cloned sheep? And actually I think Mae is a very good Name! Maybe she’ll go by that?
My sister’s name is Claudette, (my dad’s name is Claude) so her middle name is Lynn, and that’s the name she has always gone by. So glad I wasn’t born first, or I’d be Claude Jr.

Boris doesn't seem like a popular choice here, friends I have spoken to about his visit have said they purposely avoided the island until he had gone.
Boris as prime minister, that'll be interesting.
I think Hunt has come on stronger and answered more questions directly - but I suspect a lot of members will already have voted in favour of Boris - I think it might be closer than first expected.

I have to admit to not following it in any great detail, from what I have seen though Hunt comes across as a more suitable candidate, but as you say it looks as though Boris is favourite.

Me neither, Boris still comes across as a buffoon (couldn't even appear on national TV with his tie straight or his hair brushed) but "people" tell me it is all an act and he is very clever. Hunt comes across as a... slimy sh!t bag, but a safer pair of hands? I can only say that if a choice between those two is which eye to gouge out, a choice for Corbyn would be to gouge both eyes out... Lib Dems could make gains but they're strictly remain which isn't democratic to the referendum result which in my opinion (though I didn't vote for it) should stand. Green party, perhaps? Politics in the UK really is in a mess, to be honest.

I really do try not to think for too long about the state of politics and the ever increasing knife/violent crime incidents. I'm not sure what's happening to the Britain I'm proud of, I'm probably not allowed to despair at the state of the country or I'll be labelled racist, small minded or brainwashed.
I try to avoid political discussion as it rarely ends well, so despite having said all that I'm going to back away slowly and bid you goodnight :)

There are no 'suitable' candidates, the Tories are all a bunch of Hunts. Trouble is, Labour are equally rubbish, with a power mad commie in charge who will never win a general election for them.
Better the Devil you know? No, not really, we're screwed either way. String the whole lot up and start again I say!

I expected my intellectual age to be about 12, as I barely understood the questions. Anyway, I'm 42 apparently. It also said although I'm older than my peers, I do like to let my hair down. Wrong, wrong and wrong.

'tinypic' image hosting site is closing this year according to a new announcement on their site. Best start looking for an alternative if you use it, as I do.
Better make sure you copy and save any images you posted and want to keep, as they will disappear from any sites you put them on.
