security cameras time :eyebrows: simple but effective when your out. sends to you wherever you are
I live on the second floor of a five story block, the building has cameras all over the place, in fact there is one pointing straight at my front door. It might bother some people but as I know I'm not doing anything I shouldn't I find it quite reassuring. If my suspicions became more pressing I would contact the management company to see if they could check.
I have a spare mobile and a 64gb memory card, I might leave that tucked into a jacket pocket recording. I should be able to capture most of the day if I get the right app.
What's happened is that someone has broken in, stolen all your stuff and replaced it with exact replicas.

That's either someone very cunning, or someone that hasn't quite grasped the concept of what a burglary is.

They take items of same or similar size and line them up with near perfect spacing in between them in a dead straight line....normally on the floor but can be anywhere...
We had a cat at the time and she had loads of play things, same size 'ish.... my father used to be first up in the morning and one morning he discovered seven of her play things perfectly lined up about 6-7 inches apart in a perfect straight line on the lounge carpet.... some months later I had the same experience, I was about 12 or 13 at the time, I was playing with the puss in the lounge and momentarily went into the kitchen where mum was and when I returned again 6 or 7 of her toys were perfectly lined up.. spooky a ?
Now it might be that we just had a very intelligent puss but I somehow doubt it...
We had loads of other going's on in the house, doors opening by themselves, feeling like someone was sitting on the end of the bed while you were trying to sleep and also our dog constantly barking up the stairs when nothing was there...
I'm not even sure I believe in ghosts etc but if you asked me to step back in that house I wouldn't... it always had a very strange feeling about it.... a young girl who lived in the house before us was killed in a car accident.. so who knows...:(
Please don't have nightmares....;)

Ooh that is spooky, just enough to scare you but not quite enough to get you running out of the house never to go back. I lived in London for a bit in the early 90s and we had a few very unexplainable incidents, some of which were quite frightening.

Yes we moved into a brand new house and all was fine... ;)
When I was a kid, my Mum and Dad ran a restaurant in Norwich in an old medieval crypt. There were all sorts of strange goings on - the hoover would start with no one being near it. The "dumb waiter" would go up or down and no one was touching it. Plates smashed with no explanation. One evening all the candles blew out - not all at the same time, one by one.
Years later my Dad was researching our family tree. We had moved to Norwich from Northampton - Dad's family had been in the shoe trade, and it appears originally they were from Norwich. Further research revealed that the family owned a tannery in Norwich. One of our ancestors died a horrible death after being murdered and dumped in one of the tanning vats. And where was this tannery? Yes, you guessed it - it turned out it was in the crypt, where centuries later, they opened the restaurant...

A haunted house tale I heard on the radio a few years ago, and I may be misremembering some details...
A woman had for much of her life a recurring dream that she visited this big house in the country, and never left. A few years later when on a driving holiday with her husband in Ireland, she saw a house that was exactly like the house in her dreams, and just had to call there.
When the old lady living there came to the door she had the fright of her life. Turns out this caller was the spitting image as this apparition that walked round her house at night.
In the interests of balance I will say that this old woman waxed her private parts regularly, so didn't startle easily.

Slightly off topic, so I apologise for that, and I may have said this before, so again sorry. In the early(ish) days of printing (before 1980) making a change to copy involved me taking revised artwork to the local Newspaper printers to have a new zinco letterpress plate made. A lot lengthier than how it's done these days.
While proof reading a 'What's on in Blackpool" newsletter, I noticed that a full page ad for Blackpool Pleasure Beach included amongst its attractions a "Pubic Skating Rink". When I pointed it out to my boss he just said "Well it's too late to change it now", so it went out like that. I should have kept a copy. But knowing Blackpool this facility probably exists these days :)

A couple of miles from my brother's apartment on South of France there is a "Plage Naturiste" or something spelled similarly. It's some kind of resort with hotels, bars, etc. You could just think that they just want to "get back to nature".
But if you go down there in the evening there's all manner of bondage stuff going on. One bloke was being dragged round the bars by his woman pulling on a chain attached to his knob. Can't say it looked much fun, but he seemed happy with it :)

Seriously, I do not think that either condition or sexiness are directly related to age, though there is a correlation.
On a bus going to Brighton, when I was about 57 I met a lady of 72 and she was both in good condition, and sexy because she was 'alive', but there are many that look half dead at 40.

Hey Dennis, if it was Brighton, are you sure it wasn't a ladyboy?:D;)
I agree with you about the 'half-dead at 40' thing...
Some women (and men) always look (and act) old before their time. I can't stand that, and indeed it's so unsexy! You see them often on TV talent shows, and after divulging their age, you think to yourself 'Jeez, you're the same age as me, but look older than my dad!' However, yes, some older men and women can still have sex appeal at an age where that wouldn't normally be expected.
For a women, things such as, class, self-confidence, femininity and how she dresses and 'carries' herself [deportment, as it was once called], especially if she still has a nice figure (with curves in the right places), can make her 'sexy', well into her latter years, even if she's not necessarily blessed with natural good looks.
The problem these days is that even among younger women, few possess those qualities - they've either got self-esteem issues, or suffer from some other form of social media-related personality disorder, parental neglect, and/or are more butch looking than Desperate Dan!
Common as muck/thick as mince, pint-swilling, ill-mannered, jogging bottom-clad, tattooed 'ladettes', with more 'issues' than an army of homeless people selling copies of The Big Issue, are not sexy - at ANY age!!:nono:

The Waterman's look really nice but the trouble when buying a lot of fountain pens is that they don't do an italic nib, they aren't that common, and I can't write properly if it's not a straight italic nib
I hardly write with a pen any more, but my favourite is my Waterman L'Etalon in black lacquer and gold trim. I've also got a L'Etalon Mechanical pencil in brown/silver - I hate having to sharpen a pencil! With a mechanical one, there's always plenty of lead in it! :eyebrows:

Sometimes I write italic (what we used to call at school 'real writing') and sometimes I print, depending on mood.
My mother always wrote in italics, and I learned in order to forge absence letters for school. My forgeries were quite convincing, but the school did eventually twig as I was fundamentally honest - I should have written that I was ill or had a dentist appointment, instead of saying I was at my friend's house enjoying Pink Floyd and a bit of Red Leb :)

Think that is what my Waterman is, save the lacquer is more of a gunmetal colour. It was given to me by my now late parents; one of the last Christmas presents from them.
I used it at work and at home but sadly I 'lost' it about six years later. Looked everywhere, couldn't find it and thought about buying a replacement. The exact same model was no longer made and I was surprised as to the cost quality fountain pens (at least £100).
Then, approximately ten years later, whilst redecorating the main bedroom, mirabile dictu I found the pen. It had rolled under one of the bedside cabinets, which being part of the headboard, was a bit of a permanent fixture. You can well imagine my joy at being reunited with something having much sentimental value, as well as relief from the sense of guilt I felt loosing it in the first place.
Safe to say it now resides in my desk drawer and is well looked after.

I think the anklet chain is a good idea - give guys advance notice that you're approaching, so they can either mentally prepare for what happens next, or make a run for it :D Only kidding, most blokes would welcome the sound, a bit like how dogs can learn to associate a 'clicker' with getting a treat.
As for thumb rings, well I have to say I'm a big fan, for reasons I'm not prepared to post on this particular forum :eyebrows:
Sexting is something that has never been a part of my life, as the circumstances of my move form one monogamous relationship to my current one had nothing to do with 'straying'. I can see the appeal though, and if I was single I would probably be all over it. I can imagine you would be very eloquent in this respect, and I look forward to the book coming out :)

Well my anklet is very discreet and quite pretty I think and certainly doesn’t make any noise so it’s not going to give any ‘advanced notice’
I know exactly why you like thumb rings Steve but I won’t post about that either
As I’m single I don’t see anything wrong texting for a bit of fun
Who's saying it's wrong now?
I hate texts personally, never use them unless I have to. Sexts I have no experience of.

You could attach some bells to it, like the ones they put on cat collars. We need an audible 'heads up' (forgive the pun) so we can prepare for your arrival. I was actually thinking of really chunky anklets as they do have a practical purpose, but you really need one for each foot, with small carabina clips fitted for easy attachment to the bedposts :)

Totally agree. Texts do my head in, I just can't be arsed replying to them. If someone texts me, I usually call them back, and when they don't answer their phone (happens a lot) they then go to the top of my shit list :(

That is the correct response. However my partner (who incidentally also wears an ankle chain) will send me texts when she is abroad, for the simple reason because Whats App is free.

Whats app is good that way, I mostly use it to send pictures.
Last month I did some work for this Asian guy who used Whats app for calls. When he first called me, my phone did a different ringtone for some reason, and thinking it was someone else's phone ringing, missed the call. He must have accidentally put me on a 'friends and family' group chat of some sort - he is Hindu, and this last fortnight I've had two anti-muslim videos land on my phone.
I really should have a word with him, I don't want any part of this. But I've been hesitant as he is a bit odd.

Lol - I don't get any, so they don't get a chance to do my head in!:D
I've got a 20-year old 'gas powered' Pay-As-You-Go mobile phone, which is mostly switched off, and only used in the car when I drive long or long(ish) distances, just in case I should need to phone the RAC or someone else while I'm out, and I spend around £30 a year on credit, most of which isn't used.
If folks want to contact me, I'm usually instantly available, via landline phone [yes, remember that?;)] or email - or PM on here.

Gas powered phone? So if you keep it in your back pocket it would be pretty much 'self charging' :D
I think your view of smartphones is a bit black & white though. A smartphone user isn't necessarily a zombie (although many are). The world could cope without mobile phones, of course it could, in the same way that mankind has managed for all but the last few decades without computers, TV, hifi, cars and cancer treatments. But just because we can doesn't mean we should.
I'm the world's worst with tech (no really, I am!) but I like to be reachable when I'm not in the office, which is often, as I don't have an office), and I find some apps (sat nav, weather forecast, sending photos) quite handy. And when you don't want to use it you can always turn it off.
I seem to have done something to this keyboard, probably hitting an 'F' key with my sausage-fingers, now when I try to correct something it simultaneously deletes the following character. So this post has taken me half an hour now. Don't you just love technology?

More boringly, I re-charged my basic mobile phone the other day. The only texts I usually get are from O2, offering me something I never bother to read about. This time, there was an increasingly frenetic series of texts from a couple of days ago, presumably sent to the wrong number, from someone stuck at work unexpectedly. The lack of response generated more texts, culminating in one saying 'Sod it, I'll call you on your land-line'.

Lol...!:eyebrows:
My comment about smartphones was largely tongue-in-cheek, as I realise that some folk can use them healthily/responsibly, rather than let them rule their lives, and of course if you're out and about a lot with your job, as you are, then one is essential.
I simply don't need one, unless I succumb to using it for playing tunes in the car, which could happen as I'd consider that as a valid use of technology, but otherwise, no. Customers can phone my landline, as can friends and family, or they can email me. Therefore, as I said, texts are rather something I have to bother with.
Marco.

Haha... You're like me in that respect, Joe, mobile phones are simply an unnecessary distraction. The last bit is funny because people today have become so conditioned to communicating via text or email, that the good old-fashioned LANDLINE PHONE is largely a forgotten entity!
I don't know about you, but I'd rather have a proper conversation with someone on a phone (mobile or landline), than typing messages to them on a keyboard, as it's a much more 'real'/human experience. Emails are ok, using a proper computer (PC or laptop), as you've got access to a decent-sized screen and keyboard, but fiddling around with the tiny screens and keypads on mobile phones is in comparison a total ballache, especially when there's a fair amount you want to say...
And the thought of posting on forums, via a bloody smartphone, also fills me with dread... The predictive text function, for starters, and how it fucks up the spelling of words, and the typos it causes, would make me want to smash the bloody thing against a wall!

Like you Marco I continue to use a 1.5G phone for calls and the occasional texts (occasional, because the phone does not have a QWERTY keyboard). It has a built in camera, which I have used only once to show a glazier the type of glass I wanted replaced, but don't know how to download any subsequent photos to my computer.
Like you I find predictive texting exasperating and always have it switched off.
Having said that my partner has a 3G (or it might be a 4G) phone, and I am impressed by the easy access to the internet, Google, eBay, Amazon etc. that these devices can achieve. Google maps is quite useful if you are on foot in an unfamiliar place. And the predictive text function on her phone makes passive suggestions; you have to click on them if that is what you want - very useful if you are texting in a foreign language.
Technology is there to be used. Not to be allowed to take over your life.

I used to have a nokia for calls and texts for far longer than my younger friends but got my first smart phone 2 years ago , samsung s7 i think. Theres no going back now, having the internet to hand wherever you are is a fantastic tool.
Particularly when you are anywhere out from your usual place. We use google maps as a sat nav for driving, its not perfect but its far better than no sat nav, saved me a good few hours sitting in jams for sure. You fancy going out to dinner ? find recommended restaurants easily rather than take a random punt. Social media too,
i dont sit on facebook all day, i may only look at it 3 times a week but I can see what my friends and family are up to and keep in touch. Whatsapp i use for mates, very useful for organising the odd get together for scattered friends or a regular get together with local friends where we can organise something different like live entertainment events. The cameras are so good its another really useful thing to have at hand, especially with a young daughter who seems to be growing up so quickly.

We rarely get nuisance phone calls, as we took steps to eliminate them, so that's a non-issue. I just prefer having a 'hardwired' landline connection, as I don't trust the reliability of mobile phones. That's just me, though:)

Yup, it's a lifestyle choice, Barry. You do whatever suits yours best.
For various reasons, I'm pretty focussed on not allowing my life to revolve around a mobile phone, or indeed the Internet. I'm quite happy to be occasionally 'off-grid', especially on holiday. And I don't do ANY form of social media, so that's a non-starter. Del's different, and she's on various things like that, and texts her friends and family all the time.
Mine know that if they want to get hold of me, it's strictly by landline phone or email:)

I like the idea that they have been calling me repeatedly for years and at their end the phone is ringing out but at my end nothing happens.

Do you/did you get a lot of nuisance calls? We get no bother with that crap at all. There are steps you can take to sort it, such as registering with TPS: https://www.virginmedia.com/help/home-phone-nuisance-calls
Is your landline with Virgin? We've also got call barring, and caller display, so if I don't recognise the number and/or I'm too busy to take the call, I ignore it and it goes straight to voicemail. Nuisance callers very rarely leave messages;)
So are you still paying for your landline, despite not using it? You should get it cancelled.

The bit about texting vs. talking to an actual human being - couldn't agree more. I do struggle with tiny keys as my hands/fingers are completely out of proportion with the rest of me, and half my time texting is spent correcting where I missed the correct keys.
Sometimes texting can be useful, for imparting/receiving job details that can later be referred to rather than relying on my memory. But text conversations quickly sap my will to live. I particularly hate when someone ends their text with a question, usually something banal which doesn't need to be asked, and then I'm made to waste more of my day composing a reply:(
What might be handy would be if I could just speak a message, as you would do with voicemail, and the recipient's phone transcribes it to something he can read. I wonder if that sort of thing exists? Save my sausage fingers to do what they do best (look out laydees, these little piggies have got the day off!)

It's part of the overall tv/broadband package. And I've got telephone preference scheme set up on my mobile anyway.
Ok, fair enough, although you could also have the same set up on your landline... Then you wouldn't get any nuisance calls, and you could actually use the facility you pay for indirectly - if that is you bought a decent new handset to use it with:eyebrows:;)

TPS is useless against overseas nuisance calls, which is what most of them are these days. Call blocker is the way to go. Even though we were registered with TPS, we used to get numerous nuisance calls. Call blocker stops the lot.
Yes absolutely, which is why we have both, and so have had none of that crap since.
I used to enjoy winding up the scam merchants from call centres in India, simply by being creative in how I completely wasted their time, and when I got bored, laughed and told them *exactly* what I thought them [scum], and the fate I wished would befall them soon, and their employers, in no uncertain terms!;)

When it got really bad, before we got call blocker, we just used to unplug the phone if we wanted an uninterrupted evening. There was always the nagging worry that there might be some emergency, but as both sets of parents died some time ago, there was unlikely to be anything requiring an immediate response.
I lived for 5 years with no telephone at all, was never a real problem.

Arseholes, disrupting people's lives like that, mostly because they don't have one themselves.... Here it was never that bad. At it's worst, perhaps 3-4 such nuisance calls a week. Still enough for it to be unacceptable, though, which is why we did something about it.

That's why our phone has a caller display, and is also attached to a voicemail service. If we're out, or miss a call for any other reason, all missed calls are logged, in terms of the caller's number and the date and time of the call, and if they've left a message, it can be replayed and responded to if necessary.
For us, having access to that type of landline phone service is mandatory, as there are loads of folk both of us speak to on a regular basis:)

Same here. Well, there was a payphone in the hall in the house where I lived in a bedsit, but I never used it. The only calls were for the girl who lived in the bedsit across the landing, who had a 'very active social life' (code for 'several boyfriends at the same time') and who would shout 'Tell him I'm out!' to whoever was answering the phone.

The very worst incident was just after my father died, when I was staying with my mother. The phone kept ringing, with people offering condolences. Then one bloke rang, asking if we wanted roof repairs or something like that. I said, 'look, my dad's just died, we're not interested'. To which he replied 'Oh, sorry to hear about that. Do you think your mum might be interested later?' My reply was short, monosyllabic and unprintable.

Lol. I shared a house with a bloke who was popular with the ladies and who was also called Martin. I'd answer the 'phone and some bird would ask for Martin, and when I'd say 'yes, this is Martin' she'd immediately launch into a tirade of abuse about me standing her up etc.
I just used to put the handset on the hall table and go and get the other Martin. Usually the tirade would still be going on by the time he came out of his room and picked it up.

Has anyone noticed that 13th September is a Friday?
Interesting this as it was exactly 20 years previously, Friday 13th September 1999, that the Moon was blasted out of earth's orbit by a freak nuclear explosion.
Think the local wildlife are getting used to me

Are they in your garden?
Not quite, communal area behind flats round the corner from me although I used to have a flat in that block.
Having a builder in to convert the old boiler cupboard into a wine store. I've just had to remove about 1,000 CDs which were stored there.
Jolly good, old chap. It's a terrible fiddle, isn't it, when one has more Claret than one knows what to do with...
Marco.
Well actually it will be more of a place to store wine, rather than a wine 'cellar'. The temperature will be more even and stable. I only have about a maximum of 80 bottles at any one time, so there will still be plenty of room for the CDs (once I have put up some shelves for them).
No worries, good move:)
Marco.

Colin's garden is low maintenance, he's just had half of it decked and the rest is stones and/or concrete so no lawn... personally I'd have a bit of lawn and borders but he's no gardener, well I'm not such a gardener myself as most plants don't seem to like me for some reason... I've just got large tubs now and the flowers are doing ok at the moment

The main garden-based menace this time of year is barbecues; the noise, the smell, the people. Fortunately the wet weather has kept this nuisance to a minimum, so far.
Lol - well that's the fault of the rowdy bastards having them, and their arrogant lack of consideration for others! We have outdoor barbecues all the time and bother no-one with any noise:)
Marco.

At what time were they mowing their lawns? If it was at an unreasonable hour, say before 9am or after 9pm, during the summer months (at weekends or otherwise), then that's inconsiderate. However, if it was during those times, then I'd suggest it was YOU who was being rather selfish and inconsiderate of their need to do what they need to do, as well as you...;)
At the end of the day, it's about appreciating that others sharing the same space are entitled to live there too, and for all to show due consideration for everyone's right to live in that shared space, as peacefully as possible:)
Marco.

You’d hate living near me then Joe! Barbecue virtually every evening in the warmer months and have an outside music system... mind you, never had any complaints, and the neighbours often pop in for a glass of vino or a beer when they hear it! To be fair, it’s never played really loud and we’re a couple of hundred yards away from a recently closed social club who used to make a LOT of noise so my noise pollution was insignificant!
Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
And I'm quite sure, Alex, that by the same token, if one of your neighbours politely asked you to turn the music down, you'd do it?:)
Showing mutual consideration, tolerance and respect towards each other, is ultimately what it's all about. The 'fuck you, I'll do what I like, regardless' attitude, is primarily what's wrong with today's society, and what causes so many problems.
Marco.

We tend to have a oouple of biggish bbq's a year with maybe 20 friends which go into late night but we are very respectful to the neighbours and don't play the music loud. We have the fire pit going as well which can smoke a bit at first but it's fine once it gets going
Today is definitely not bbq or hammock weather though
Lol - well that's the fault of the rowdy bastards having them, and their arrogant lack of consideration for others! We have outdoor barbecues all the time and bother no-one with any noise:)

Yebbut don't you live in a detached house with no near neighbours? We have houses both sides and behind us, so there are at least five gardens nearby with barbeque noise potential.
Yes, but apparently I'm surrounded by, and bang in the middle of, a "chav-scum council house estate, populated by drug dealers and benefits cheats" [tee-hee], and so in that respect there's ample barbecue noise potential...
The reality, of course, is that the modern houses surrounding our lodge are largely bought/privately owned and populated either by retired couples, who don't say 'boo to a coo' (make zero noise), or young families with children, all of whom are very well behaved:)
Marco.

It’s nice to be back! In my conspicuous absence I’ve been recovering from surgery! It was far more serious than I was lead to believe before hand. I went in for some hernia repair, and came out with some 148 staples in my belly. Top to bottom, side to side, from my rib cage to as far south as possible!
It seems that I had put the repair off so long, that my stomach muscles had atrophied away. So! Now I have mesh holding my entire guts in, and the mesh is strapped to my back muscles! The strangest thing, once I got home, it seemed that I was taller? All my tables seemed shorter, etc. then the other day I stood in front of my bathroom mirror, and in my reflection it was cutting the top of my head off! Damnit! I actually am taller?? How the hell? It seems that by strapping this mesh to my back muscles has pulled my spine into alignment? Or so the doctor speculates.
As I lie in the hospital, many doctors came by to see me, at least 15 of them said they were in the operating room during surgery! It must have been standing room only! One doctor said they juggled my guts over their heads before putting them back in. I’d have thought he was kidding, but then again it really does feel like it! I think he was serious.
So I am just over 3 weeks since surgery, and I really question whether I needed this surgery or not? I could have gone the rest of my life wearing a truss, or I could have pushed my guts around in a small wheelbarrow? One thing is certain, it’s the last time. No matter what may come loose in the future, it will stay that way, this has been more than overwhelming, and do you know they have prescribed me nothing for pain! Due to the fake Opioid Epidemic that the government in the US is on about, I received no pain medication over what I was taking before I went in. Is that insane? Did I miss something? So I declare, never again! What’s done is done, but in hind sight I wonder if this will ever be worth it? At this point I still have swelling, and am enjoying a soft GI diet.
And the worst part of all my be, the remote control for my preamp stopped working two days before surgery. So I’ve been watching the boob tube instead of enjoying my stereo, hopefully this week I’ll be able to get up and down and flip records again! It’s good to see that the conversation has remained in the gutter in my absence. The trick to sex in a hammock I believe are rough seas! You need a little motion of the ocean to help things along.

My you have had a mighty big stitch up. I have had mesh surgery for a hernia and things are a lot better afterwards. Give it a few months and you will be glad you had it all done, plus I don't think there will be any chance of things coming adrift again.
Wow Russell, some ordeal! Hope you get mended soon - I'd avoid hammocks for a while...
Welcome back Russell.
My, that's one hell of a lot of surgery you have been through. As others have said take it easy now and leave the sex in a hammock activity to Bev.
Thanks everyone for the well wishes. And I hate to sound old, but sex is the absolute last thing on my mind these days, I don’t even want to watch others having sex in a hammock! Well, maybe just for a moment, out of curiosity you understand. But only a moment! Then it’s back to my split pea soup!
Russell
No need to apologise Russell,
There are some that like to talk about sex ('aural' sex?), whereas there are those who just get on with it, without fuss, discussion or comment.
Are you unable to operate the preamp without the remote control, or is it a matter of convenience, saving you having to get up and down?

Hi Russell, welcome back, I hope you have a speedy and full recovery. That sounds like quite a procedure.
That sounds very severe, and here I was feeling sorry for myself after heart failure last August, followed by a prostate cancer diagnosis, diabetes, and kidney problems, all revealed in one consultation.
Got rid of the diabetes, heart stopped and re-started and arythymia sorted, on estrogens and developing tits, and back to bodybuilding. Tough getting old eh?
But I think I brought all of my troubles on myself with depression.
I remember thinking in April last year, and I largely share Marco's values, 'there is nothing for me here' - the world can be cruel to a pleasant, decent, but unconformist and heretical person.
Fortunately my fitness and work have restored my enlarged heart to relatively normal, as is also its ejection factor.

How did you 'get rid of the diabetes' Dennis? Was it through a change in diet?
I can at times suffer from mild depression or melancholia, but I have never contemplated suicide and never will. You just leave a mess for others to sort out, which is just selfish.

Welcome back Russell, glad you are on the mend. One question - what does a soft GI diet comprise and how does it differ to what they feed to Marines?
Re. the hammock hanky panky - I think the problem would be largely one of access, what with the "curtains" being pretty much drawn. Unless the receptacle is of Wizard's sleeve proportions :(

GI in Gastrointestinal i think; usually low fibre
GI in Gastrointestinal i think; usually low fibre
More likely Glycaemic Index. The GI is a rating of how quickly carbohydrates are converted into sugar. The faster a food is broken down during digestion, the quicker will be the rise in blood sugar. Since one of the aims of treating diabetes is to keep blood glucose levels steady throughout the day, foods which cause sharp rises are best kept to a minimum (except in he case of a hypoglycaemic event). Foods that cause a rapid rise in blood glucose will have a high GI, so the key is to choose more low-GI foods regularly.
Low-GI foods can also help you to eat less as you feel fuller for longer, have lower incidence of heart disease and with improved levels of 'good' cholesterol.

I believe the soft GI does stand for Gastro Intestinal. And foods are like chicken noodle soup, oatmeal, puddings and the like. Stuff like beef, and breads, which are either hard to digest, or create gas, are not on the list. Just think gentle, easily digested and none gaseous. I was adventurous last night at supper, with a non-spicy chicken fajitas, and wow did I pay for it! Almost immediate regret! But I am slowly getting back to regular food. And the good news is I lost near 20 pounds! The first week I was restricted to shaved ice only! I wasn’t even allowed to have a glass of water, but I did sneak a glass here and there, to keep my lips from cracking off.
Yes the hammock thing is expressly for the young! And works best with the male on the bottom, her legs hanging off the sides, and the rocking of the boat doing the work! Or so I would imagine. Not that I would know?
I recall when I was young, everyone raved about water beds! I never owned one. My wife’s cousin told her, “you need a water bed! They are great for love making!”, to which my wife replied, “I’m scared my high heels would pop a hole in it”, and her cousin, looking puzzled, replied, “Why would you wear heels in bed?”, my wife told her, “ Lord child, if you don’t know I can’t help you!”. Ah, to be young again! Youth is wasted on the young.

Diabetes caused I think by continuing to eat as a bodybuilder, but not training, ie. eating too much out of habit.
I just cut back to the point at which my body started to feel hunger again.

My bother in law’s brother has had that same problem. He trained for years, won awards. But as age caught up to him, he messed up his back lifting too much weight, and as soon as he became idle he instantly developed diabetes. I must note he did illegal things to bulk up, using steroids etc. so that increased his risk dramatically. Trying to transition back into a normal life has been tough for him, his body doesn’t want to go back to normal, and he can’t keep up the advanced training, between a rock and a hard place.
