The cover is misleading - there is no climbing down ropes, nor any helicopters, nor for that matter any bikini-clad blonds involved.
Apart from that minor quibble, it's a good film and started the mini-series on ITV, which I loved.

I saw that being made. Much of the air action was filmed over RAF Northolt, just up the road from home.
Did you know the ME 109's and Heinkel 111's were ex Spanish air force and used similar Rolls Royce Merin engines to the Spits and Hurricanes.

For one reason or another 'er indoors wanted to see Michael Jacksons thriller, so had a look for it on eBay and found a cd of his best tunes and a DVD with Billie Jean, beat it and thriller. Cobbled together the DVD recorder to the tv and audio to a T amp and Celestine ditton 15XR ( I think ) I have in the lounge and settled down to watch last night. I have to say I don't think I ever saw all the thriller video before. Sound was ok but I couldn't get her to go down the garden to the listening room where I'm sure it would sound better and have a bigger screen. £4 for the cd and DVD seems a fair price to keep 'er happy

One of John Wayne's best films - his best film according to Al Bundy from 'Married With Children.'
Not much plot. Essentially he has to save some settlers from the Apaches - which he does of course - acquiring a bird (Geraldine Page) and a surrogate son along the way. The pacing is brisk, unlike a lot of 1950s westerns, and the battle at the end is cracking.

Stunning documentary, wasn’t aware someone had shot it all on 70mm film at the time.
This makes it look less like something from the History books and something you might see on CNN.
Given recent SpaceX launch this was a must watch.

Since Adam West hung up his cowl there have been many attempts to revive the franchise including 'Batman', 'Batman Returns', 'Batman Forever', 'Batman And Robin', 'Batman Begins', 'The Dark Knight' and 'The Dark Knight Returns'.
The thing all those movies had in common is that they were unadulterated rubbish.
But this! - this is so good it is bordering on genius. The funniest film I have seen in a long time.

I liked Tim Burton’s Batman and Batman Returns, also the Christoper Nolan take on the character grew on me. It’s Robert Pattinson donning the cape I just can’t get my head around. Much like Ben Affleck.

Talking of super powerful men, Randolph Hearst did his upmost to stop this film including many nasty things, but ultimately failed. guess his measley 40 billion, and the biggest media empire in the usa wasnt quite enough. he did cause the film to fail financially tho, as it only broke even when it is now classed as the greatest film ever made

Doesn't help that I never fancied Daryl Hannah. I have the same problem with Julia Robert's romantic films. Blokes going through all sorts of aggravation to try and pull her - I just can't relate to it.

Saw the original many years ago, and there is a part where the main character was going to Inverary, and I thought "Ooh, I've been to Inverary for a fishing holiday, this'll be interesting". But then he said something like "This isn't the road to Inverary!" Disappointing. Saw the remake many years later, and guess what? He still didn't go to Inverary :(

Tom Sharpe novels were always amusing in a slightly mucky way - there was a TV adaptation of "Blott on the Landscape" produced in the 80s, starring David Suchet, which I remember enjoying :)
Anything with Diana Quick in it is worth watching.
The adaptations of Tom Sharpe's books to the small screen have all been done well: 'Porterhouse Blue' and 'Blott on the Landscape'. I would love to see screenplays written for 'The Throwback' and for the South African books: 'Riotous Assembly', 'Indecent Exposure'.

The first to be shown was the theatrical version at about2 and half hrs... Lots more footage was available and the bbc showed the ministries 5* 50mins series in this country.. about 1984 i think.
dvd Das Boot, The Original Uncut Version, was released and slightly shorter coz it was cut lol ... this is the directors cut at 208mins.
complex lol.. i have the uncut version as well in german

Das Boot has to be seen in one uninterupted sitting to appreciate the claustrophobic life on board a submarine.
I saw it in the cinema, and coming out at the end into daylight and fresh air was a revelation - and a relief!
I saw 'Morning Departure' as a youngster and that put me off any ideas of going in a submarine. Terrible way to die.
Although I did have a tour of one once but it was just sat in the harbour so I thought it was pretty safe. Can't remember the type but it was an American boat.

Alien: Covenant (2017)

latest of the 'Alien' prequels. The last one was okay and this one is just 'okay' as well. Has its moments but as with a lot of similar films does rely on people doing stupid things to advance the plot.
For example the pilot is told to keep the ship secure after landing 'as per protocol' - because we all know what happened in 'Aliens' don't we? But does the pilot do that? No, she's pissing about under the ship, or wandering around about 100 yards away from it, all the time the ramp is down and the door is wide open. Next thing you know there's an alien on the ship. Well what a surprise that is.
And going back into 'hyper-sleep' at the end. Okay it's going to take 8 more years to get to the destination planet but personally I'd be spending those 8 years locked in my cabin with an AK47 and a case of hand grenades.
Despite the goody and baddy androids looking identical no-one suspects in the slightest that it might be the baddy android who makes it back to the ship, even though he's been out of sight and communication with the rest of the crew for ages. Really? Yes really. Just seal me back into my hypersleep pod even though it wasn't that long ago that I saw my husband burn to death in one.
The first one is a classic horror film. The second one is classic action film with some great dialogue. 'It's game over man! Game over!'. But this is neither fish nor fowl.
