Audie Murphy plays himself in this account of the wartime exploits which made him the most decorated soldier in U.S history.
He wanted Tony Curtis to play the role but the producers insisted he had to do it himself. Good production values for 1955. You can't help but come away with the impression that Murphy was absolutely crackers, and very lucky too, although he does eventually get shot in the hip which ends his military career.

Operation Crossbow, 1965. A partly(at times too much) fictionalized retelling of a ww2 real life operation. Makes a decent tale although i'd have preferred more truth in it tbh... maybe it was too boring a tale?, ie defending against the V-1 flying bomb and V-2 rocket attacks at source.

As the apes in Rise were meant to be actual, the producers decided not to use actors in suits. After considering real apes, instead Weta Digital created the apes digitally in almost every case through performance capture. Advances in the technology allowed the use of performance capture in an exterior environment, affording the film-makers the freedom to shoot much of the film on location with other actors, as opposed to the confines of a soundstage. The main breakthrough was a camera that enabled viewing the motion capture dots in daylight, employed mostly for the Golden Gate Bridge battle. A maximum of six actors could have their movements captured, with larger ape crowds using fully digital animals animated using Weta's move library. The Golden Gate Bridge set used both a physical set which was extended digitally, and a fully computer-generated model of the bridge that also included the ocean and nearby hills.
The film was a big success taking nearly $500m

You can't beat a Charles Bronson/Micheal Winner film. Top marks for totally unnecessary gratuitous violence (outside of video nasties) has to be Death Wish 2 where a gang of thugs break in to his house, rape and murder his housekeeper, kidnap and rape his dumb daughter (who's been like that since her experience in the last film IIRC) so she jumps out of the high window and is impaled on the spiked railings outside.

its an interesting, if overlong film.. not great by any means unless your maybe on fringes of nashville scene. worth maybe one watch. that was mine. cant win them all, but it had its moments

Curiously one of my obscure favourites is Angel and the Badman. Comedy to the max. Available in a colourised version for nothing. The opening scene got edited from the B&W original. The reason John Wayne is riding so fast when he falls off his horse is he's got about 10 bad guys on his tail.

I am a bit baffled that (spoiler) "The Searchers" came top. I didn't enjoy that film at all. Though Vera Miles never looked lovlier. Clint's "Outlaw Josey Wales" for me. Made me cry. And that takes some doing. I am a tough guy too, er, in my dreams. :D

Although Guy Trosper, Calder Willingham, Rod Serling and Sam Peckinpah all had initial credits as screenplay writers, the finished article, was many say witer mostly writer by Brando. The film wasnt actually finished by Brando, as he got pissed off in a way only a genius could.
It was a strange fictionalised tale originally that ended up more like fact.

The film was shown at Cannes then on release.. It crashed and burned financially..
It is well enough acted and set, but script left a lot to be desired. Typical Polanski in that everything is just a bit too realistic.

Classic sci-fi.. still holds up as class, special effects aside; and the effects are fairly good for the day.
And a damned sight better than the remake.

The film was shot in the Philippines and is a rather good account.
Chandler injured his back while making film, and filmed most of film under painkilling injections. you can see him wincing, and when he returned to USA had an op, but alas died under anesthetic..

Yes, the first one was was better IMO, but would never have held comparison with Cronenberg's visceral "body horror" approach.

Directed by Richard Lester and written by George MacDonald Fraser. It was originally proposed in the 1960s as a vehicle for The Beatles, whom Lester had directed in two other films.

Storyline:

Zack Snyder's Justice League. Just finished watching this you either love it or hate it, I absolutely loved it stunning film all-round true masterpiece and a vast improvement on the original. However be warned it's just over 4 hours long and in 4/3 which I don't mind.
I suppose when you think of Bogart, Casablanca(2942) comes to mind... An Amazing film with Ingrid Bergman and a super supporting cast. it was one of few films entered in 2 different years academy awards.. in 1943 it won 3 oscars..none in 42.

an even older oldie.. Hitchcock's 'The Lady Vanishes', 1938. stars Margaret Lockwood and Michael Redgrave. Of course we had the pairing of Naunton Wayne as Caldicott, and Basil Radford as Charters ; the cricket made English pair trying to get back from germany for the test.
This is the film that made Holywood sit up and take notice of Hitch.
Many say Night Train to Munich was a sequel to this and it does carry over much of this film, and characterisation. It was also written by Sidney Gilliat and Frank Launder, who also did the St Trinnians films..

They do house clearances then sell any potentially valuable items at auction. No real big money items tonight, a haul of Victorian crowns and other silver coinage from a house in the Lake District and some original 50's poster artwork from a house near Dundee. Passed an hour.
'Secret Eaters' (an old programme presented by that bint who turned lesbian after presenting 'Naked Attraction') including a woman who couldn't understand why she was 18 stone when her average intake was only 4500 calories a day (her drive thru McDonalds meal was three burgers, large fries and a large full fat coke & that was a between meals 'snack'!). Her similar sized son said he 'barely ate' but could put away 15 pints of lager in a session..
