Never did that, but serviced a few vintage clocks. New pendulum suspension springs, clean and lube etc. Repaired the occasional clockface & hands too.
With the current situation you'd think they'd put some decent telly on for a change. Just watched two episodes of 'Bargain Hunt' and I think it's given me brain damage.

Re. 'The Repair Shop', I've been a bit of an addict since the start. Delighted to see the new series (14 episodes, each an hour long). I'm simply in awe of the skills of the restorers.

If anybody wants to see it again, 'Pulp Fiction' is on Sony Movies channel at 9pm.
Everybody should see this at least once! I remember the first time I watched it and saying 'WOW!' when it finished :).

Best since 'Empire'. Some really great scenes in it and I liked the way that it segues into 'A New Hope.' That was done really well.

Watched that last night, Roy. I thought overall it was very good, but the fight scene itself and the ending was a little disappointing - almost as if it was secondary to the story preceding it. Great part though, played by Ray Winstone!

Bit slow I thought, the fight scene was well choreographed but, yes, it did kind of fizzle out. Ray's always good value, have you seen one of his earlier films 'Love, honour & obey'?, worth looking out.

Better than not bad, I think. Some good performances, unfortunately none of them came from Ned beatty nor Danny Glover. My favourite had to be retired sniper Mr Rate, played by The Band drummer/singer Levon Helm. Should have given him a bigger part

I liked Star Trek best when it was a mini-series with separate episodes [broadcast during the 60s, but also shown on TV throughout the 70s and 80s], which were often far better than any of the films! And in terms of the films, any that don't feature the original cast are very poor relations. And let's not even discuss the modern guff!:doh:

Carl Reiner also directed "The Man with Two Brains", also starring Steve Martin. Very very silly, but definitely worth a watch. Kathleen Turner was especially hot in this film.

Despite the poor reviews here, I think Barbarella as a piece of sci-fi is refreshingly original. The sado-masochistic theme is perhaps overdone, and the humour a bit slapstick, but some of the alien 'other world' ideas are interesting.

How does The Final Cut differ from the theatre version? (I'm talking about the film and not the album by Pink Floyd!)
a few add ons etc and more expanse... the directors cut is very similar tho. aspect ratios are different here and there as well. They thought the original lost but a copy was found and restored.. what was missing was added in with other segments. overall the picture is much better and its a bit better orginised.. also the adult toy sent to Britt is in this one:eyebrows:

'Day of the Triffids' just started on the horror channel, it's the one with Howard Keel in, I'm recording it for later.
Best take on the Terminator idea, short of Harlan Ellisons Outer Limits episode James Cameron got sued for ripping off..but that’s another story.
A one off, is what it is Horror movie and by far the best in the Series.
T2 was great, an equally good movie, but a different Terminator-verse and very different to this.
This was better.

The Sweeny (2012)
I'm a big fan of the Sweeny, seen all of them, most of them more than once. There's no bad episodes and lots of brilliant ones. So you've got to wonder what they were thinking with this pile of shite, shite so bad even Ray Winston can't save it.
Of course London is like Disneyland now, all the crumbling Victoriana and the bomb sites surrounded by corrugated sheeting are long gone so it's not possible to create the same atmosphere as the series but even so you have to wonder if whoever wrote this had ever seen an episode. In fact it could just be any generic cop film script with the names changed to Carter and Reagan. I wonder if that isn't what happened. At one point Reagan is asked to hand over his 'badge and gun.' His badge? Where are we now, Dodge City? And the climax to the film takes place in a trailer park.. draw your own conclusions there.
The action scenes are risible, the characters do stupid things just to advance the plot - which is the same tired old shit about Internal Affairs pursuing a maverick cop who gets results. The romantic sub-plot with Reagan is lame and just slows the whole thing down even if you fast-forward through it. The bloke playing Carter looks and sounds like he's drugged-up.
Really it's a total insult to the genius of the writing, directing and characterisation of the original. All copies of this shit should be burnt, blown up and then the remains dumped in the sea.

They were showing the old sixties/seventies 'Public Eye' series last year on Talking Pictures TV channel, with the detective Frank Marker played by Alfred Burke. I really enjoyed those, all low key stuff, but very evocative.

Lol... Bloody hell, sorry, I couldn't disagree more. T2 is one of my fav films! For me, it's up there with the original Robocop. The action sequences are superb, and for me that's what those films are all about. And I also rather enjoyed True Lies.

His early films were all crap (Conan the Barbarian etc. and the one where the ancient Greek gods come to New York city); Arnie's acting could not have been more wooden. (Not surprising really - his nickname in his bodybuilding days was The Oak.)
I didn't like Total Recall either, but then there are very few successful film versions of Philip K. Dick's novels and short stories.

Yeah I know I'm in a minority on that one. I hate films where what I think is going to happen, happens. Like 'Gladiator'; there was a point where I thought ''Oh no, this isn't going to end with him having a fist-fight with the Emperor in the middle of the arena is it? Please don't let it be that shit.''
And sure enough that's what happens. Just so tired. Ruined the film for me. Even though otherwise it's excellent. Russell Crow is always at his best when he's doing his Richard Burton impression.
Lol - I getcha. That would kind of spoil it. However, for me when I'm so engrossed in the action sequences (and if they're done well and hold my attention enough), I tend not to think too far ahead about anything else!:)

I didn't find it funny either. Whereas the series has me laughing before anyone's said a word.
It's the same with all these remakes, the writers don't seem to understand what made the originals good. The dire Hitch-Hikers Guide To The Galaxy film is a classic case in point.

Couldn't stand 'Hi de Hi' either, as that was also British humour in a different way, and the wrong type to make me laugh. Now Fawlty Towers - I'll wet my scants to that!:D
And for me 'Black Adder', which also smacks of such 'Britishness', is only really tolerable for the performances of Rowan Atkinson, who's simply a genius. And 'Queeny' gets the odd funny line. Otherwise for me, it's an epic fail.
Only Fools and Horses, I adore, and that's British humour, but again a type I somehow can 'connect' with... Just different tastes!:cool:

I like comedy that plays on real life experiences, particularly ones I can relate to (as he's Glaswegian), and that's exactly what he does, at times rather brilliantly. A modern day Billy Connolly.

Hee-hee... Frankie Howard used to get right on my tits, lol, as did Kenneth Williams, for similar reasons (their rather 'affected' mannerisms and 'overt Englishness') - just not my bag, soz... My parents also felt the same, along with Dad's Army, It Ain't Half Hot Mum, and other programmes of that ilk, hence why they were rarely on. Couldn't stand 'Yes Minister' either.
None of us really 'got' that type of British humour. But we always laughed at all the Scottish comedies, going right back to Stanley Baxter and Rikki Fulton - two true comedy geniuses, IMO!:)

its an old british classic, and there were calls for it to be banned here when it was shown... tbh its not that horrific now but in 48 on film... well it was .. the ending was changed to be less cold hearted than the book, probably to get passed the censor

Yes I am here. Spent half the afternoon finessing the 'new' PC. I'm sure I can come up with a list of dark movies...............whether they may be to the liking of others though is an altogether different thing :).

I see nobody mentioned 'Bad Day at Black Rock, set in the fifties if I recall, but still a western and nice and mean, with some great acting!
Ooh-err... Spoiled for choice now for westerns! Need to see how many of those I can access via my usual sources:)

'The Bunker' 1981
TV film about Hitler's last days with Anthony Hopkins as Hitler. Highly rated but I've never seen it until now. Allegedly, Hopkins was so convincing as Hitler that the actors playing the German guards snapped to attention as soon as he walked on the set.
It's pretty good but isn't as good as the awesome 'Downfall' which covers exactly the same ground. Also it's far too kind in its protrayal of Albert Speer.
Late night film.. Enemy of the State. 1998. Stars Will Smith and Gene Hackman.
Directed by Tony Scott.
