Top Of The Pops from 1st July 1982.
1982 seems like yesterday to me, but it is more than 34 years ago. In any case, everything was very synthy, and Adam Ant knew how to act in his videos whilst Toyah lacked conviction.
A new art form at the time, the 'pop video'.
I saw that one too. Saw Toyah live, way back then (first gig I went to) and certainly she knew how to do it all live, excellent stuff. I had a thing for Toyah back then, and to a degree still do.
She was quite cute. Although at the time I preferred Susannah Hoff out of The Bangles IIRC.

No doubt it was Toyah's orange-coloured skinhead hair do that put you off - I did me.
There were some dead sexy-looking girls in the Bangles; still like 'Walk like an Egyptian' :)

Yes Terri Nunn :) I like Berlin, last album is fabulous... Count Three and Pray. I also like Terri Nunn's solo material too.

Great train crash near the end, and not surprisingly they used a 1/4 scale model of a train. The scenes when the deloren was on the tracks speeding in front of the train were infact shot in reverse, as the train was towing the car(full size train this time.Sierra no3 I believe). train could only do 40 mph i reverse though due to the small real buggy. Still, its a super bit of cinema. the high pan of the town is a homage to Sergio Leone.

Never read the books but I know Reacher is supposed to be more like The Rock than The Scientologist, but I really enjoyed this when I saw it first time round.

The Invaders (1995) TV Movie.
A soft reboot of the 1960s TV series of the same name, Roy Thinnes is even in it playing the role he had in the 60s series as David Vincent. Was this a pilot for a new stab at it ? I don't know but its not bad as these things go.

First season is excellent, second patchy but I greatly enjoyed them when I was younger and a recent re-watch was also enjoyable.

watched first disc... think there was 4 eps on it... Effects are ok for 60's tv but with all their knowledge and technology, why do they want info from scientists brains?;)

'Mean Girls 2'
As we all know the first one was a classic of the American High School genre, easily able to hold its own against the greats like Pretty In Pink and Ferris Bueller's Day Off.
Sadly this sequel lacks the qualities of its predecessor. It's all a bit too contrived and Lindsay isn't in it. It's almost as big a disappointment as Starship Troopers 2, if you can believe that.

I think that was the final series - the cast were starting to age and look old. But the final episode was very clever, and wound up things in a very satisfying manner. :)

If you watch the final episode, where they finally make it back to Earth and try to find the authors (Grant and Naylor?) to resolve an existential problem, the denoument is such that a further series could be possible.
Think that was the back to Earth in 3 parts, now called season 9, Barry. there has been a season10 and now just finished season11 on Dave.
Back to The Invaders Series and disc 2 of many. :)

Babs windsor. she was a knockout when young. She is still pretty good for her age actually.
Richard Pryor and John Candy star in Brewster's Millions from 1985. Nicely paced and intelligent comedy from Walter Hill, who wasn't known for them. Think he did it for the money, but felt the end product was pretty good. The original book has been made into multiple movies with this the best.

Just watched 'Hopscotch' 1980, Walter Matthau and Glenda Jackson. A charity shop buy I'd forgotten I had. It's a comic spy thriller. Never seen it before, not bad, but not great.

Watching more of The Invaders series. There is an amazing amount of episodes in the boxset and watching on and off I reckon it will last me into next year easily. Quite good considering its age. Special effects though are pretty laughable

thanks mate, but I have a copy of it and Charley Varrick. Thik the 2nd is a better film, although I enjoy both. Used to have the odd couple too, but seem to have lost that to that special place where such things go lol. Its a super film.. I did find my copy of Mash though so might watch that soon.
Got a big box of dvd's to find a home for yet.

Been 'baby sitting' Elder Son's Kittens ( spending the evenings there ) as he's en Provence for a couple of weeks.
His Silly large TV screen is enabled with virtually.. Every.. Movie/TV input available in North America.
TBH it takes me ~ 45 mins to sort through the offerings trying find something that interests.
Frankly there Ain't much worth spending ones life hours watching.

Saw 'Arrival' yesterday in the cinema. Very intelligent, moving and thought provoking sci fi film. Well worth watching, but if you want lots of blowing things up, don't bother, its not that kind of film.

The Lost Lotus - Restoring A Race Car. (Channel4) NOW
Not a petrol head as such, but I love these restoring car programs.
'Thor' (2011)
Thor was about to be made king of Asgard when frost giants attacked (as they do). Against Odin's wishes, Thor went to sort it out himself. There was a problem and some deaths were involved. Pissed off, Odin stripped Thor of his powers and banished him to Earth.
This simple bit of exposition, for some reason, takes almost an hour.
On Earth Thor runs into theoretical physicist Natalie Portman, a mate of her dad's who is looking after her, and some gobby bint whose presence is never really explained but who is quite amusing and you start to think it might become watchable, but then she has pretty much no dialogue for the rest of the film.
In short not up to much. Natalie Portman, couple of funny lines from gobby chick, that's about it. Kenneth Brannagh directs (yes really, Kenneth Brannagh).
The Ladykillers(1955) stars Alec Guinness, Cecil Parker, Herbert Lom, Peter Sellers, Katie Johnson and Jack Warner. Original and best by far.

Seen this before a couple of times but was happy to watch it again, always the sign of a quality film in my book. Good story, good acting and well-paced even though it is quite long. Well worth a go if you've not seen it.

'Cockneys vs Zombies' 2012
Does was it says on the tin, in fact better than that, it is quite well done with some funny lines and stars Alan Ford who is always good. Follows in the footsteps of Shaun Of The Dead, although not quite as clever. Zombies are the traditional Romero type, i.e slow and stupid, not those quick ones that can set traps for you. Worth a watch.

my dad liked that one... think it was airforce training? nation service I think. he was in air force in war and said some things never change. I Was a big Bilko fan in the day; its kinda aged a bit now alas, but still watchable.
Bilko never dates for me since it was already an ancient show when I was a child.

I have fond memories of watching Hogan's Heros & Bilko with my Dad & they're both still very watchable.
My Dad was a massive Bilko fan. I bought him the anniversary DVD and he was up until 4 am watching it.
Feel like being cheered up so got my amazon library up... think it will be the super fun Johnny Depp film (yes there are a few:eyebrows: ) The Lone Ranger from 2013. Surprised this was not more popular tbh, as its great stuff, and soundtrack is nice too with the incredible Billy Tell overture from Rossini. blasting out nearer the end on the train scenes.

Very dark, more like Torchwood. Is this for kids, young adults..... I don't know. I would certificate this as an 18.
Watched the first episode, now on the second and its good.
The Running Man (1987) stars Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Conchita Alonso. Also a small large role part for the late Erland van Lidth, whom had such a lovely voice. Steven King wrote the book, but not sure who did the screenplay. Directed by Starsky and Hutch star Paul Michael Glaser.

Just finished watching Class and its great until the last few minutes of episode 8 ....... the next series, if there is one, ..... well disappointed . com re who the main bad guys are..... sigh. I wont spoil it.

Quite like some Dylan. Have a number of 180 gm remasters of his I imported from Sundazed.
Pimpernel Smith(1941) stars Leslie Howard, Mary Morris and Francis L Sullivan. Super British propaganda film from the era, starring a real spy. Leslie H was indeed one, and died at hands of the Luftwaffe 2 years after this film.

Henry Ford PBS America documentary.
Very long, had to watch it over 3 nights. Fascinating bloke but very flawed. He had no education, didn't even know the date of the revolution. He had teams who would go to his worker's homes and inspect them to see that they were living 'properly'. If not they had one chance to sort themselves out, if they failed they were fired. His son and a team developed a working prototype to replace the by then heavily outdated model T whilst Ford was away. When he came back and saw it, he ripped all the doors off and then smashed it to pieces.

Blood Beach (on You Tube) extended cut.
Not seen this in years and never seen the extended version. 1980s creature feature, people and animals are disappearing off a beach, or is it into the beach. Its a B film, which at times has a similar vibe to Kolchak - The Night Stalker TV series, but overall is a fun watch.
I remember that. Lots of close-ups of sand. Some nudity.

Remember seeing the trailers for this and The Shining when I was only 11 and thinking they must be scary beyond my wildest imagination.

Was a fairly long but enjoyable film.
Now gonna watch Paul, the Alien from 2011. Hes called Paul coz his spacecraft crashlanded on a dog called Paul lol.
Excellent comedy with a decent cast. Well done too.

Mel Gibson takes on the difficult role of Fletcher Christian, with limited success. Not a great third attempt at the Bounty story, on the whole. I like the Howard/Brando effort myself. This one is still worth watching for Anthony Hopkin's mesmerising performance as Captain Bligh.

In the lead up to xmas, watched the Highly underrated 70's version of Scrooge starring Albert Finney in title role. A few songs in this but dont detract tbh. Many well known actors in this adaptation. Finney was very good actor indeed and oft forgotten now.

Just watched 'Support Your Local Sheriff' (1969) on Movies for Men, with James Garner, Jack Elam and Joan Hackett. A real treat, A comic western done to perfection. Garner was always great at this sort of role. The whole cast is terrific.

Independence Day: Resurgence (2016) not usually my cuppa, but a xmas pressie on blu ray so currently watching this. Not as bad as it was reviewed, but not as good as last one ...so far, and that says it all. Directed by Roland Emmerich and has a number of the original cast as old men now. Budget was 170m$ and it doubled that in boxoffice already so, a hit and a miss. Still a way to go and may improve... The boy saw it the other day and loved it:D

Its pretty good Barry. Story influenced by the 100 years war, just set in another world, with some magic and dragons. Plenty of court intrigue, politics, murder etc, and a massive threat to everyone in all the kingdoms - the White Walkers.

The earlier Pontiac GTO's and the first Dodge Charger 426 Hemi are my two fav yank motors.

Jeff Bridges - not a bad watch at all, surprised me in the end
Every time I watch him now ,I have to recall his performance in Thunderbolt and Lightfoot with Clint !!
George Kennedy was my favourite 'heavy' beacuse of Thunderbolt and Lightfoot. :)
Freaked out as a kid about internal bleeding becaue of this film...helluva last scene.
Back up to date, thought the dialogue between Jeff Bridges and his indian Deputy in Hell Or High Water was superb.
Chris Pine acted everyone else off the screen, Bridges included I thought?
Three Days of the Condor (1975) directed by Sydney Pollack and starring Robert Redford, Faye Dunaway, Cliff Robertson, and Max von Sydow. Great political thriller this; probably still the best of type.

Love this show, Mike and Frank are a hoot, its educational, has antiques and curios and Danielle Colby, is very nice.

George Kennedy - Yes I recall the great scene where he and his mate , staking out as ice cream men ,meet the nerdy kid who wants a 'particular sort of ice cream ' Look Kid ,go **** a duck !!:lol:
However the brutal scene where Bridges gets kicked to hell was one that lived with me for a long time!!
The opening scene is great though ,where Eastwood has to run away from the gunman through the cornfield !! My brother in law is a lay preacher and Clint fan ,and I tell him I can envisage one of his parishoners entering his local church in similar fashion !!!:eyebrows:

Not for those feint of heart. Not my cup of tea, went in an unexpected direction and left me shocked and a tad disgusted. On a plus the soundtrack is amazing.
Flight of the Navigator (1986) stars Joey Cramer, Paul Reubens, Veronica Cartwright, Cliff DeYoung and Sarah Jessica Parker.Nice Disney classic with a great script. Music by Alan Silvestri.

Followed by 'Horizon' about hair. Some young bloke (who has a very full head of hair) is morbidly worried about his receding temples. 'It's the big problem in my life' he says.
Next week they will be investing why youth is wasted on the young.

I've just finished watching the entire series of "House MD" which I thought probably the best TV I've ever watched in many ways! Highly recommended!
What next is my question? I've never seen an episode of "The west wing"... I watched the first series of "breaking bad" a couple of years ago and that seemed good so could be an option....
Any recommendations folks?

"The Wire" is very good indeed. All six (I think) serieses, but do tackle them in numerical order. "Breaking Bad" is meant to be excellent too - it's next on my list. My kids also rave over "House of Cards" (the US version, not the UK one). I would add "The Killing" esp series 1. Have fun!

I did all of MASH again (saw most of them first time round) back in '96
I'd recommend The Sopranos if you never saw it. That's the best series ever.

West Wing's awesome, huge fan, love it..especially when Alan Alda (Mash) get's involved.
Breaking Bad gets better, better then EVEN better.

HBO at its best...Shown once back on Channel 4 in the wee hours of the morning...its brutal adult drama.

Examination of the American law enforcement 'ecosystem'...each series examines a different aspect.
Quality seeps out of it, Shakespearean in scope...genuinely gripping and 'gotta know what happens next' feckin' amazing.
