Bangers and mash.
Cumberland sausage, smashed potatoes (with the skins and some lumpy bits, butter and pepper), onion gravy, carrots, brocolli and peas.
An orange for dessert. No booze, just some tap water to drink.
Roast pork, chips and beans

That looks lovely, and I'm sure tastes as good as it looks. :)
I've noted the can of lager - well done, but lager should always be drunk from a glass or tankard, never out of the can. ;)

Looks good Roy.
This was courtesy of my better half, the roasties were controversial as she's on a diet.
Thats a belting looking plate Roy !! We had a Lasagne which was partly made by moi , as I cannot lift anything after my hernia op ! I managed to install the ingredients into the pot but the other half got the big heavy dish out to make it all up !
Unfortuantely didnt take a picture -which is the point of this thread lol

Last night - home made burger. Yes, there is beef hiding in there underneath the cheese and gherkins, with air fried wedges and home made red cabbage ‘slaw. Now have two air fryers, so burgers in one and potatoes in the other - burgers in the air fryer are amazing, crunchy and gnarly on the outside but still moist in the middle. Excellent recipe from BBC Good Food for “secret sauce” which is very similar to a well known fast food establishment run by a clown…
Never would have thought mushy peas would go with a roast Roy, but why not if you like it!
Now that looks good Alex - especially as I'm not that keen on burgers. ;)
Lunch out today at Felix, Warley. Katsu curry main course

Yesterday was my wedding anniversary so cooked my wife’s favourite it’s called “Marry me Chicken” because apparently once you try it you’ll want to marry the person who made it! Essentially chicken in a double cream, Parmesan, garlic and sun dried tomato sauce - it really is lovely and easy to make. Of course, she already married me 17 years ago so I can’t vouch for that bit!
Served with her favourite Hasselback potatoes and some nice veg.

Oh yes! I think I would marry anyone who could cook like that, and would go to the trouble of doing Hasselback potatoes. (I have made them, but it's a lot of bother.)

Curry tonight, like making curry now, its so absurdly easy. just brown chicken, then fry onion & garlic, add some curry powder, then liquid of choice, mine was coconut milk and then cream. Threw in a bit of broccoli as I didn't want to steam it cos my kitchen has no ventilation! Worked a treat, some coriander to finish. Who needs all that authentic Indian crap!!
When I used to make curries I would go to the trouble of pain-stakingly grind and mix the various spices and herbs. No longer do that anymore as I rarely eat curry these days.

Chicken n red wine stew tonight, with all sorts of stuff thrown in, went for a meditarranean slant with olives, tomatoes. It's dead easy and was well tasty.
Dad’s Kitchen needed a quick supper tonight as Dad’s Taxi is in full swing this evening…. Chorizo and Halloumi Kebabs glazed in honey with chilli and paprika. Over cooked a bit as not done them in the new air fryer before but still tasted great. Chips done in the other air fryer, pita breads were filled with homemade garlic sauce before assembly.

Always end up overeating at those buffet places, more often than not because just when you think you've finished eating someone comes back to the table with something you missed.

I'm not a fan of McDonalds, but if we ever go somewhere for the day, we'll often drop in at one for a sausage and egg McMuffin and a cappuccino. Much prefer it to their burgers, and at about 270 calories not too bad. This only happens maybe once every couple of months, so I think my body will cope :)
Been celebrating the recent warm weather with a salad or two:
https://i.postimg.cc/0Qr5wvnT/002.jpg
Salad leaves, hard-boiled egg, avocado, celery, grated carrot and red cabbage.
A Spanish naval orange for desert, and washed down with a bottle of Doombar ale.
Very healthy Barry, and looks good.
Another “takeaway” for speed, chicken souvlaki made last night and marinaded over night, 20 mins in the air fryer and the French fries 15 mins in the other air fryer. Greek salad left overs. Really tasty!

Normally winter comfort food, but we’re still in winter, right? Toad In The Hole with mash, asparagus, courgettes, peas and sweetcorn.
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20240517/12d042fd9d59206e7e4b9441aa275611.jpg
Looks good Alex, though I would just go with the 'Toad' - you can keep the 'Hole'. I find Yorkshire pudding boring and somewhat tasteless.
But yes, the weather is changing , so despite it having been a wonderful day today, it was chilli-con-carne and rice for me tonight. Photos to follow.
Lasagne. Served with a shovel, luckily tasted better than the presentation suggests!

Certainly looks tasty - home made?
Certainly looks tasty - home made?
Thanks Barry. Yes, from scratch, although not the lasagne sheets. I’ve perfected the meat sauce recipe (same as bolognese) over many attempts but it does take a lot of prep. My “secret” ingredient which Marco will castigate me for when he returns is a whole chorizo ring, chopped into tiny pieces - I timed myself and it took 24 minutes to do that alone!
Lasagne used to be my daughter’s favourite, but ever since she had a sickness bug and tried to eat it whilst still not feeling well she can’t stand the site or smell of it. Billy loves it too, so taking the opportunity to make it for him whilst she is away. I was the same with macaroni cheese - had some when I was about 8 and was then sick, the smell of it used to make my stomach churn. I did get over it a few years ago, but it took nearly 4 decades before I could eat it again!
Cottage pie- well, it is winter and we need comfort food, right?https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20240521/a84b2b6a095f8969cb7abba36582e038.jpg

(* Thinking about it, a better description would be "ratatouille".)
Those all look great Barry - I’m guessing not all in one day, though?
No - not all in one day.
It's too much bother to photograph and post each day, so I do a few day's worth and post 'en masse'.
Same with "Spinning Today ....".
The New Inn, Horning in the Norfolk Broads to meet my Dad and sister who are nearing the end of a two week boating holiday. I had steak and venison pie, which apparently was a prize winner at some pie awards or other in 2023. It was good, but I wouldn’t have said it was an award winner if it wasn’t for it saying so on the menu.

Last night was homemade pizza night, mine was overcooked a bit but still nice, toppings included St Agur blue cheese, mushrooms onions olives tomatoes and pine nuts. Pine nuts ok on pizza, pineapple most definitely not - discuss… :)

Wow homemade pizza! Do you make the base? Whatever it looks delicious. :)
Apropos pineapple in a pizza topping - no, never! Perish the thought!
Make the dough, mixed and proved in a bread maker, but I roll it with a rolling pin, not yet worked out how to "fling" it around like the Italians do!
My hat's off to you Alex! The best I can do is to cook a shop bought pizza in the oven.
Thanks Barry, kind of you to say. It’s a lovely family thing to do - I chop and put out loads of different ingredients and we all make our own version - amazing that we all come up with completely different concoctions - I usually go vegetarian but Billy loves chorizo and salami, Sue likes prosciutto and they both like spinach and an egg (yes, an egg!) Tamzin usually a bit more minimalist or goes for seafood. I’ll photo everyone’s creations not just mine next time.
They all sound delicious Alex. Egg is a new one to me - are they hard boiled?
They all sound delicious Alex. Egg is a new one to me - are they hard boiled?
Nope, they just crack a raw egg in the middle of the pizza and it cooks in the oven, sort of like a hard boiled fried egg, if you know what I mean?

Haricot beans Barry. Look at me, imparting information! Let me just enjoy this moment :) Looks very tasty btw.
Yes, of course. I should have known - it is what my partner would call them, but then coming from a francophone country, French is her second language. However I was confused since "haricot" simply means 'bean' in French, and needs an additional adjective to distinguish one type of bean from another.
Enjoy the moment Steve, you have earned it. :)

I was thinking that must be a serving plate, but then I remembered Roy can give Desperate Dan a run for his money! Does look good, though.
I try not to post the same dishes twice, think I have probably posted this before but it is a refined version using Panko breadcrumbs - Katsu chicken burger and fries. Jolly tasty it was too.

Thanks both, it was all very tasty, especially the minted potatoes but my eyes were bigger than my belly where they were concerned, left enough to make a small potato salad.
So, in my Father’s Day card was this:

And bless them, the kids have spent a huge amount of the day preparing what can only be described as a veritable Greek feast. Absolutely gorgeous, and I did nothing apart from put the Taverna music on! (But I expect I’ll now be clearing up!)

Parmesan isn’t something I could cut, loads of my favourite recipes use it, it does last ages though, so I tend to bulk buy when on offer.

It was my son’s 12th birthday yesterday so we went to a local pub/restaurant that does Lithuanian food. I wanted something light, so ordered the grated potato pancakes with smoked salmon and cream cheese sauce. It was far from light! Very tasty but I left about half of the potato.

I suppose I am Northern compared to Roy but I agree, mushy peas is a must with a chippy tea!

Interesting, which pub?
Interesting, which pub?
It’s the Crown at Crowfield - it’s been taken over by the people that ran the Magpie on the A140 at Little Stonham.
They do a lot of English/pub stuff too. My son had a full English breakfast! Wife, daughter and in-laws all had a pork steak with cheese and mushroom sauce and mash. We had a selection of starters to share, including cheesy garlic bread which was deep fried, squid, mozzarella sticks, chicken strips and nachos (home made, they were really good) and to be honest, we didn’t really need the main courses!
I would say that everything Lithuanian seems very greasy and dripping in cheese, (not a criticism, just an observation on their cuisine) and all of the portions were huge. They do a good selection of kebabs so I think I would go for one of them next time.
It’s a Sunday, the sun is shining so it’s BBQ time again. [emoji4]

Then it was a sort of bacon and mushroom carbonara, except it wasn't. I couldn't be fussed into making a carbonara sauce, so I made a simple Bechamel sauce instead. Tagliatelli pasta with greens.

Been busy today, so a ham, mushroom and Parmesan pizza with spinach, peas and some brocolli. The pizza was bought, so it would be cheating to show some photos.

It's what I call 'ham, egg and chips'. We often eat gammon, but I trim all the fat off of mine. My partner on the other hand likes the egg to be well done; easy if fried, but more difficult if poached.
Linguini with diced beef in a tomato, onion, garlic and ginger sauce. Carrots, brocoli and garden peas.
Washed down with a glass or two of a 2021 Château de Colombe, Castiglione Côtes de Bordeaux.
To start some vegan (!) sushi:
https://i.postimg.cc/qRgXsD8Z/002.jpg
Inari nigri; cucumber hosomaki; yellow pepper hosomaki; chive coated pickled carrot cucumber and red peper roll, and a sesame coated pickled red cabbage, yellow pepper and rocket roll.
Followed by a salad (not really salad weather, but they are colourful and help to maintain good karma. ):
https://i.postimg.cc/rsRPywsj/003.jpg
Tagliateli pasta, salad leaves, grated carrot, sliced red pepper, flaked tuna, avocado, hard-boiled egg and pimento stuffed green olives.
All washed down with some Becks lager. (Yes I know it should have been Japanese Ashai beer:

It's not a deliberate effort - we just like vegetables. I don't however regard potatoes as being one of the "five", and I know that tomato is a fruit and not a vegetable.
Some consider a meal not to be a proper meal unless it includes meat. I'm quite happy to eat eggs - either scrambled or as an omelette.
Leftover “salads” (not up to your healthy standards Barry! ;-) ) with a baked chicken breast rubbed in herbs and spices - very enjoyable.

A recipe I would like to try out:
Traditional Bedouin Wedding Feast
A filling breakfast to satisfy the largest appetites best served in a tent in the Sahara. (Serves up to 250)
You will need:
1 medium camel
1 medium North African goat
1 spring lamb
1 large chicken
1 egg
450 cloves of garlic
1 bail of fresh coriander.
1. Take the prepared chicken and stuff well with the egg, which should be hard-boiled, and pad out with the coriander,
2. Stuff the lamb with the chicken,
3. Stuff the goat with the lamb,
4. Stuff the camel with the goat. (A pre-prepred camel is rather more convenient - don't be afraid to ask your butcher.) Spike with the garlic and brush with butter before cooking.
5. Spit roast over a charcoal fire in an arid desert area for best results.
Sorry, I have yet to obtain a North African goat.

Aldi do a great one.
Our last night for my wife’s 50th birthday to a place in Dedham, Milsoms in the heart of “Constable Country”. Beautiful setting and the food looked lovely but none of us were 100% blown away.
Wife and daughter both had the pork belly rib eye:

https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20240813/bcaaae00b573b6eeb98beea2fe38b27f.jpg

Some great dinners there Barry!
On my little North Norfolk trip with the kids, first night was our perennial favourite, Byfords in Holt.
I had the Black and Blue burger, which features my favourite cheese, locally produced Binham Blue. It was delicious.

Daughter had the Belly Pork, which she said was awesome.

And my son didn’t even look at the menu as although it was 3 years since our last visit he talks almost weekly about how he loves their Breakfast Pizza - which is exactly that, but he asks for it without black pudding.

They both had pudding, but I can’t remember exactly what - I think one is white chocolate and raspberry torte

And this is I think caramel and pecan cheesecake.

We’ve been here dozens of times over the years and it never fails to impress - highly recommended if you ever find yourself in this beautiful part of our country.
Last night was a camp BBQ, I burned the sausages, so no close up pictures! But they enjoyed it.

Tonight we went to The Kings Arms in Blakeney. I last went there 30+ years ago, and it has hardly changed. Given some of the prices charged here the cost is very reasonable and the food good and staff very friendly. The kids both had burgers (again…. )
Which they both said were superb, and they’ve tried enough to know…
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20240821/02d3c0d8b52d2ec7b313bc7c6e262354.jpg
I went for the special board lamb kofte. Very tasty, and lots of healthy salad!

No pudding tonight as they were too full, and now tucked in their sleeping bags awaiting the impending storms…
So I am now making the most of it with some chilled tunes on my makeshift portable hi-fI rig and an enamel mug of Rioja.

Well you hadn't set the bar very high with that barbecue :ner:
We'll be away camping next weekend, I think I'll get us a barbecue going for the Friday teatime. Line our stomachs before the beer. Last time we did that it was at the end of the night, and it didn't end well. My mate was struggling to get things going, so siphoned some petrol from his Harley. Set fire to his hands, stumbled backwards and ended up sat in a ditch, where the water also caught fire.
His wife was very annoyed with us because instead of rushing to help we rushed to get our cameras. I was more annoyed that it was too dark to get a decent picture. Still we have our memories :)
He was fine btw, but not a quick learner - we attempted to do another barbecue a couple of years later when camping in Spain, but the cheapo barbie I'd bought came with flame retardant charcoal. His wife had to physically restrain him from going to his Harley for reinforcements

I know Dave, Tamz is 16 in less than a month, Billy 12, getting ever more teenager like by the day!
That did make me laugh Steve! Yes, I think BBQ before booze sounds a good idea!
Today we met my Dad who lives in Norwich for lunch at The Pigs a few miles outside Holt.
I had the special beef and Yorkshire pudding wrap, which had huge and very nice

Dad and Billy had the all day breakfast which they both enjoyed a lot

Note that the butter for the toast was pig shaped!

Tamzin went for the pulled pork bap which she also said was lovely
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20240822/a5370b6dd709b88dc8cca05da0a5bd8f.jpg
And then the kids both had Piggie Mess, their version of Eton Mess, which again they said was amazing

We’re back at the campsite now and they’re already talking about going to the holiday park village where there is a pop up Curry stall tonight - hollow legs!
Massive health kick when they go back to school!
Beef casserole with home made yorkies

What do people see in Yorkshire puddings? Utterly tasteless IMO.
The casserole looks good however. Just needs some green veg to go with it.
Great looking Yorkies Roy!
Before Barry says it, wot no veg?
He beat me by 42 seconds!

Mine aren't tasteless?
There's celery in it but that probably doesn't qualify.
Great looking Yorkies Roy!
Thanks Alex, they were very tasty ;)
Try Mary Berry’s recipe, Barry, I kind of know what you mean, but essential with a good joint of roast beef in my opinion, or a stew like Roy’s.
Gammon steaks tonight, I’ve posted the finished article before, but I inadvertently created a gammon monkey on the grill!
(Pineapple is for daughter, as has been said before, in my opinion pineapple doesn’t belong on gammon or pizza…)

Agreed - pineapple has no place on gammon, or in a pizza, or (heaven forbid) in a curry. The only place for it is either on its own, with some single cream, or in a fruit salad.

Agree on all counts :)

Looks good Roy, but I would keep the 'toad' and leave the 'hole'. ;)
Chicken breast stuffed with Binham Blue Cheese and wrapped in bacon - an impromptu dinner which was lovely.

That looks decent
Agreed. I love venison, but don't get to eat it much. The last time was in Finland, though our local butcher makes venison sausages which I occasionally buy.

I didn’t realise until recently that venison is healthier than chicken breast - it’s only 2% fat. My sister being a vet, often gets called to road accidents involving deer. If the poor thing needs to be put out of its misery, it goes in the back of her car and then once she has butchered it, into her freezer! She always used to bring some at Christmas.
Unfortunately our local butcher rarely has it, but when they do I buy some.

Used to? Was that until the kiddies twigged they were eating Bambi :D Hmm, did you ever make venison burgers, that sounds like something I would like, I wonder if you can buy them?

Just did a quick search - most supermarkets seem to stock venison burgers.
The kids aren’t too squeamish about what they eat, but actually I’m not sure why my sister hasn’t brought some - maybe someone’s been teaching the deer population of Blackburn the Green Cross Code?
Turning any decent cut of meat into a burger is a travesty. To do the same to venison is a cardinal sin.
Burgers should remain in Macdonald's, and be totally ignored by anyone who any taste at all!
(Did I say I don't like burgers? ;) )

No you never mentioned it :) And I don't think anyone making burgers commercially would use 'decent' cuts of meat, defeats the object which is to make the inedible saleable ;) What are your thoughts on sausages?

I drive through Blackburn occasionally (it's only a few miles up the road), and I can tell you nobody there understands the Green Cross code
I'm not that enthusiastic about commercially manufactured sausages, and given the choice would eschew (pun intended) them all. Someone I knew was shown around the Wall's sausage factory, and said if you knew what went into their making, you would never eat another one again.
That said, our local butcher makes his own wild boar and leek sausages as well as venison sausages, either of which I occasionally buy. The trouble is my partner avoids any processed meat, and will only buy fresh meat that she can have a look at. Even mince meat will be from a cut of meat and minced in front of her by the butcher. I'm not so fussy and will happily buy low-fat (5%) minced beef from a supermarket if I'm making a spaghetti bolognaise or a chilli con carne.

One of my mates dad, who was a butcher always used to say “eyes, ears and arseholes”.

Right, I'll get the agreeing part over with first... We wouldn't touch Wall's sausages with a bargepole, for reasons you mention, also because they look and taste wrong. And, Anita also only ever buys the 5% minced steak.
But on the sausages/burgers topic, well... why are venison burgers a cardinal sin while venison sausages are ok? Just curious - I may never get to find out myself as Anita controls the shopping budget, and buying something that is expensive simply due to its rarity value isn't likely to happen.
