Hmm. Had chicken salad in a granary roll lunchtime. Followed by an apple and coffee.
Got fish in the oven at the moment, nothing special, just Birds Eye pollack in breadcrumbs (which I like). Oiled sweet potato slices baking too and spinach to go with those.

Some of the scran we enjoyed today at Marco Towers... To start, Gravadlax of Salmon with trout and mango terrine, and mini-prawn cocktails in their shells, with dressed mixed salad leaves:
http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/1024x768q90/922/83GJTd.jpg
Followed by home-made spinach and ricotta tortellini with a toasted pine nut, fresh sage and butter [Beurre d'Isigny] sauce:
http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/1024x768q90/923/pdbWbV.jpg
Main course was roast Gressingham goose (breast pieces shown), served with a rich red wine and port jus, pigs in blankets, celeriac mash, fresh spinach and Fontina cheese crumble, sprouts, red cabbage, green beans and rosemary and garlic roast potatoes:
http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/1024x768q90/924/hXyKjT.jpg
Lots of veg for Del (as she's vegetarian):
http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/1024x768q90/923/lAccVE.jpg
And for pudding, home-made, traditional at Christmas, Italian Zuccotto (Panettone soaked in sweet vin santo wine with ricotta, chocolate and candied fruit), with some of the wines in the background we enjoyed, such as a superb Chateau Laffitte 2007:

Beef stew
Sunday lunch today is a classic recipe, which is called Pheasant Smetana; essentially slow, pot-roasted pheasant with sour cream, white wine and capers, and which will come out looking somewhat like this:
https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/1024x768q90/922/tRC3bO.jpg
This will be served with some green beans, broccoli, honey-glazed carrots and roast rosemary and garlic-infused potatoes. Wine will be a 2004 Bourgogne Hautes Côtes de Nuits.
Will take a few pics and post them later

Lol - we're having a cheeseboard with oatcakes, crostini, pickles and all sorts of other stuff later, to bring the bells in. Just in the middle of preparing the wines, champagne and spirits. The lovely port you kindly gave me will also be getting an airing, after some decanting - can't wait!! :carrot::carrot: :yay:
Marco.
Tonight's meal will be a Salade Nicoise to start, followed by T-bone steak (cooked medium rare), boiled potatoes, green beans, fennel, carrots with an aniseed and honey glaze, broccoli and red cabbage.
Bramley apple pie and cream for dessert.
All washed down with a 2014 Chateau Capet-Guillier, Saint Emilion Grand Cru.
Sounds fab, Barry, but one day you will really need to treat us to some pics! ;)

Blimy  How the other half live :)
Lol - not really... It's the festive season, so one pushes the boat out a little! If you're curious, the food illustrated in the above pic is as follows (left to right):
Vegetable crudités with a mayonnaise, garlic, sour cream and mint dip, mini-egg mayonnaise vol-au-vents, various herb bread sticks (for cheese). Cheeseboard, consisting of Brie de Meaux, Roquefort, Cheshire Blue, Ossau Iraty, Emmental, Black Bomber mature cheddar and Manchego. All served at room temperature.
White round plate filled with assorted olives with feta cheese, hot red-pepper and chilli sauce, picked cauliflower and gherkins, black olive tapenade, Thai fresh chilli dipping sauce, and home-made Piccalilli.
Large wooden board below was filled with fresh anchovy and mayonnaise toasts, Waitrose Christmas bake & glaze whole ham, jalapeno and chihuahua cheese fritters, filo pastry-wrapped king prawns, Parma ham pastry swirls, tuna mayonnaise and fresh caper vol-au-vents, and mini-beef burgers with tomato relish.
Don't worry, I've saved a doggy-bag for you! :D

Hard-boiled egg, avocado, beetroot and rocket salad with Greek Tzatziki to start.
Some fresh saltwater prawns tossed in a little Normandy butter, two dessert spoonful of pesto sauce stirred in, and then served on a 'bed' of fresh spaghetti. Steamed asparagus, broccoli and French beans on the side.

That Soda bread looks good. Any chance of the recipe ?
I am cooking Chinese Braised Red pork with steamed rice and stir fried Pak Choi with Garlic. Smells good but have another 30 minutes to tasting.

sure dave.. Not much to soda bread bar quickness. about 9oz of soft plain flour, teaspoon of salt and one of sugar. 8 foz of soured milk(make by adding a dollop of leon juice to cold milk in a jug and put in fridge for 10 mins) or you can use buttermilk if feeling rich. and about 1 1/2 teaspoons of baking powder...I use double action stuff from usa.. get it on amazon. Clabber Girl or Argo, but you can use our stuff too just you have to be very quick and make sure your milk has gone acid. double action also reacts with heat so guaranteed.
Bring it all together quickly with a big spoon in a bowl. then tip out onto floured bowl. sprinkle a bit of flour over it and your hands and very quickly turn it into a ball. (as your doing this have a baking sheet or tin in a hottest possible oven.)
Once in a ball and holding together nicely cut a scorethrough top and pop it on the sheet or tin and back in hot oven for 10 ins, then reduce heat to about gas 7 for 10 mins then gas 5 for 20 mins.. thats it really.. if you want is with soething in just put chives or whatever in when mixing.. or a bit more sugar if you want it a bit sweeter.
Easiest bread around...it doesnt rise as much as bread but its more of a near cake bread really. great with soup or with butter on and heated in micro, or with jam id a sweet one.. nice in crusty and when its a tad older can be toasted
Your steak and chips looks great, Grant! :respect:

Yeah. Mine's doing at the moment.
What Tesco describe as a 'chicken pie', basically a cheap puff pastry shell with slime and bits inside :). Plus baked baby potato croquettes, brussel sprouts, fried mushrooms and gravy.
Thai Jungle Curry for me tonight. Yummy, imagine a green curry without the coconut milk and you are pretty much there.
I usually make my own, it’s all about the paste, but M&S do a decent one.

It was very nice. Was a 21 day job from aldi. That's the end of my avacado oil tho. It's good as it can be got hot for initial sear. Chips were fresh too but done in oven as I don't have chip pan now

The curries Snapper made from scratch last night, which were truly superb...
First just some poppadoms and spiced onions (marinated in ketchup, chilli, mint sauce and mango chutney), with a simple salad, dressed with fresh black pepper and lemon juice, and some jars of lime pickle and garlic tomato pickle, which we get from an Asian supermarket:
https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/1024x768q90/923/BGchWm.jpg
Next up, Chicken Chasni Balti, recipe here: http://www.greatcurryrecipes.net/2014/10/14/chicken-chasni-balti/ and four veggie curries for Del (which we also had some of), a cauliflower and green bean one, tomato and chick pea, spinach and potato, and lentil/dahl (with some natural yogurt on top), served with some pilau rice:
https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/1024x768q90/922/EHoRbi.jpg (https://imageshack.com/i/pmEHoRbij)
...all washed down with some rather nice chilled Gewürztraminer white wine! Awesome

Keeping it relatively simple tonight. Haddock goujons with mash 'n beans.
The only bit I made was the nice creamy mash :), although I did liven the beans up with a bit of pepper and tomato puree.

Just emergency stuff. Nothing extra nice just it will keep me going. Getting some ice m snow away gives me a chance for Monday if it goes milder to get out
I usually make French onion soup, but I tried the original, which is an old Tuscan recipe. The key is a heavy pan and a half hour sauté of the red onions, very low, no browning!
https://food52.com/recipes/74865-tuscan-onion-soup-carabaccia
IMO this is better than the French version.
Nothing like a comforting hot bowl of soup on a cold winter's day, so your French onion soup sounds great! A wee tip when you're doing the French version, add a dash of dry sherry to the pan for extra richness and flavour! ;)
Oh, and proper French onion soup should always be served with nice cheesy croutons....
Can't be arsed cooking today, so we're going out for Sunday lunch to our favourite local restaurant: http://thefatboarwrecsam.co.uk/
Looking forward to it!
