Not my usual choice for dinner (though I do like baked beans (Heinz, of course)), but I had a gastroscopy examination this afternoon, and was advised to eat something 'soft' later (and baked beans on toast was suggested).
Having a gastoscopic examination is not the most comfortable of procedures, but I was given a clean bill of health, and copies of the photographs they took of my gullet and stomach. I could let you see the remains of breakfast in my stomach, but this is not the correct place (if any) to post. :D

I can go about a week with no bread then I start craving it. It's carbs what make you fat (not an issue for me), but I'm trying a no grain/ low dairy diet for health reasons. On the plus side I look forward to big steaks and more inventive cooking with veg and just new foods I've never tried before. A typical dinner for me now is roast chicken on a bed of sliced fennel with side of veg, don;t need any more.

i mostly eat chicken and fish; occasional steak etc.. reduced my pasta and potato input a fair bit. bread has to be gluten free alas and its difficult to get anything that is eatable... milk too has to be lactose free. both recent issues.
just made some lactose free ice cream and its in little pots in freezer for treats.

Low carb diet leaving me hungry, so last night it was steak and pork chop, and tonight 2 pork chops!! With a few new pots fried, and some mini plum tomatoes fried with garlic and tarragon, which must be the tastiest and versatile herb there is. Tomorrow whole chicken roasted on a bed of fenel, with sage.

Lately we have been having strawberries for dessert. And I have been having a few raspberries on top of museli for breakfast (and if not raspberries, then half a banana).
Our local greengrocer had some 'white' strawberries for sale. They were a pale cream colour with an orange tint. Looked like unripe strawberries and not at all appetising. Has anyone tried them?

You're not wrong Grant, prices have gone stupid. She gets them in for when her super-fussy youngest ankle-biter is staying. Easy to be fussy when it's not costing you anything ;) I'd be happy with Newgate beans.

i usually buy fairly cheap ones and just add a little bit of sauce to enrich them.

I like beans on toast - but will only use Heinz, because they taste better compared with other brands. It's probably due to the amount of sugar Heinz use, which being diabetic is not good for me, but I only eat baked beans occasionally.
The last time was after I had undergone an oesophagogastroduodenoscopy. It was recommended as something easy to digest, but to make it a bit more interesting I put a couple of fried eggs on top.

Try this recipe, bacon or pancetta, onion, green chilli, egg yolk, parmesan, garlic, parsley, very nice. Forget cream for carbonarra, that's the bogus version.

Salmon, sweet potato and brocoli spears, luckily I had some homemade pesto on hand for some flavour. Bit pissed off today though, I've hugely reduced my alcohol and sugar intake for the past 3 months, on a low carb, non processed food diet, but my blood sugar is still at exactly the same level it was 6 months ago, 43 mmol. Disappointing, been exercising more too.

Bit pissed off today though, i've hugely reduced my alcohol and sugar intake for the past 3 months, on a low carb, non processed food diet, but my blood sugar is still at exactly the same level it was 6 months ago, 43 mmol. Disappointing, been exercising more too.
yeah still in the grey area... Sure it will come down in time, or they will give you some tabs for a period like my son got.

Didn't wanna go down the medication route, but may be it's not that bad after all. I have anaemia too, which I think is connected, it only bothers me with slight dizziness and some fatigue at times. Had it since 2015 at least.

We try and have a salad everyday at lunchtime and vary it with Tuna, humous, smoked salmon and cheese.
Helps keep the weight off :) But then I sometimes have a piece of cake in the afternoon!

This morning I decided to forego my usual 10am marmalade on toasted seeded bread (currently my favourite) and have two boiled eggs with soldiers instead. Used my phone as a timer. Unfortunately I had the alarm volume set too low, and it was drowned out by Black Sabbath "Master of Reality". So it overran a bit.
It's not easy dipping soldiers into hard boiled eggs, but it still made a nice change. I really must buy a proper egg timer.
Salmon cooked in foil parcels, new potatoes with butter and chopped syboes, tenderstem broccoli and my half of a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc.
Well you learn something every day. In this case, learning that 'syboes' are spring onions. :)
yup, sybo/syboes was a common word up here when i was younger, but its not used much now. a word that seems to have died out of lack of use with younger folk. it was usually spoken as 'cybees'

Cholesterol.
From what I understand and I'm no expert, but from talking with doctors, its sugar that affects cholesterol and theres nothing concrete to suggest cholesterol has a detrimental effect on the heart, goes against stuff I'd heard before.

Recipe said 1 hour, it was tough at 40 mins, and still tough at 1 hr 10 mins, so think it wasn't ever gonna tenderise. It seems to be a hard one to find in restaurants, be nice to try it by a real chef. Will be changing over to a largely vegetarian diet soon though, as I suspect I have early stages of CKD (chronic kidney disease).

Never tried it, will seek it out, I like pheasant.
First time I ate rabbit was in France, back in the middle '60s. It was served up like an anatomy dissection - put me off for life.
I have tried most fowl: chicken; turkey; pheasant; partridge; quail; plover and goose. Can't say I like any of them.
The only bird I like is ostrich, which has a much more 'meaty' taste. And it's very low in cholesterol. :)

turkey, chicken and a bit of lean duck for me. the rest i can happily do without. not tried ostrich or plover. beef, pig and lamb but only fairly lean. just as well i can eat meat as im not a big veg eater due to my system not agreeing with them now. i like beans, lentils, peas, green beans, tomatoes, potatoes, carrot, onion depending..etc
tbh im perfectly happy most of time with something like corn flakes, and honey nut ones if gluten free and rhubarb or stewed strawbs, apples etc. can jjust about live on that. i like a bit of fruit juice, especially spice tomato.. so i guess i could live meat free if pushed. ive got lots of meat in freezer and it rarely gets eaten unless im in mood. i do like a scotch pie tho lol
Ah - forgot to mention duck. Don't like that either.
Of four-legged mammals, I've eaten: cow; pig; lamb; water buffalo; zebu (a humped cattle); goat, and camel. I like all of them save goat and camel (the latter because they are so useful as beasts of burden, they are rarely slaughterd to eat, but if they are they have lived a life of hard work so the meat is tough).
I've also eaten other strange and to my tastes disgusting things on my travels (such as tortoise), but have not, to my knowledge, eaten cat or dog.
I'm also pretty choosey about what fish and sea food I eat: love cod and haddock, less so sea-bass. Also love prawns and octopus, but dislike squid and shell fish, apart from crab and lobster.
Think I ought to become a vegetarian - but I love red meat too much!

some really oddball meats barry, well for the british palate. at least you tried them. fish i forgot.. i really only eat salmon(occasionally trout), haddock and cod, or something similar. i dont eat shellfish etc.
my dad came up in a poor rural family in the depression and ate anything.. tripe and onions was his favourite. he are lots of weird stuff during his war years over in n africa and jerluselem areas.
Oops! - I forgot salmon. At the moment we're eating quite a bit of salmon or prawns.
And I also forgot tuna (tinned) and tinned mackeral in tomato sauce. Will have either in a basil and tomato sauce, or on their own with a green salad.
I have to watch the amount of sugar I eat, but fortunately fruit sugars are allowed, so plenty of apples, oranges, peaches, strawberries, raspberries and banana. My partner who BTW is an avid ichtyophage, so has encouraged me to eat more fish, has also introduced me to the various types of melon and to mango, which we do eat for dessert from time to time.

Sounds about right, the rabbit is a little fellow, not much meat apart from its hooge legs!! Guinea fowl is delicious, have you had that?

Today's breakfast, avocado with spring onion, burrata cheese, poached egg, tarrgon, balsamic, fried baby tomatoes. Part of my low carb diet, ruined by a piece of toast with jam afterwards.

Trying to eat vegetarian 5 days a week now for the sake of my kidneys. This was delicious, just a simple dish of bulgar wheat with aubergine and tomato, feta, mint.
