View Full Version : OK, What's For Lunch or Tea Today?
Was only 14 months ago i was heading for 20 stone.
So that's getting on 7 stone lost? That's incredible! I shed 4.5 in 2017, but gradually put back on 2 in 2018/19 - needs permanent change of habits. Hate to say it, but Marco's right - nothing wrong with anything as long as it is in moderation. My downfall in the past was crisps and cheese - when I was dieting they were banned which works when you're "in the zone" and determined, but far better to have a smaller portion of what you like once in a while than make it an ordeal for everyday life.

And more funky 70's crockery! Rocking!
What has the age of the crockery got to do with the taste of the cooking?

Thats functioning on 1000 cal a day and no more than 100g Carbs. Loads of Exersize, No Booze, No Takeaways, No Crisps, Cakes, Chocky etc. However never once bought low fat, Dietry shit.
Marco is right, indeed but when you are loosing weight you cant eat just anything. However it has to be a total lifestyle change. See i have never been one for eating a lot its just what i was eating on top of Booze. The Booze alone far exceed a safe cal intake per day for a bloke.
Latest is ive actually gone from a size 9 shoe to an 8.

Nothing at all Barry - my "Rocking!" quote was intended to admire both. :)
Indeed... I just lurves it. And the subdued 'mood lighting' all adds to the 70s-tastic Berni Inn-effect!:D
Marco.

Yup, totally meant as a compliment. Thought you'd have sussed that, Baz!:)

And no fun?;)

Yups... A lot of the diet shit is full of salt and/or sugar (often disguising the fact), to get you hooked on eating it, not to lose weight. It's all a money-making con. Plus processed food contains little nutrients. Much better to cook from fresh and simply monitor the calories yourself:)
At the end of the day, it boils down to a very simple equation: if you burn off more calories than you consume, then you'll lose weight, which is why the exercise part is so important!
Marco.

Well I've not had a shoe size reduction that's for sure! You're right about the booze, and whilst I have no intention of quitting I have cut right back on the beer (still enjoying red wine and the odd whisky) but yes, it's simple maths in the end - 3,500 calories = 1lb of fat - and it doesn't really matter where you cut those calories from, if you consume 3,500 calories in a week less than you burn you will lose a pound, and multiples thereof.

A Glass of that would probably kill me now.
What I'm lovin', Granty, is you being able to enjoy a wee dram, pretty much daily now, with seemingly no ill effects (indeed the opposite), when not so long ago you were tea total, and depriving yourself of such enjoyment, because you were told it was bad for you!:D
Just shows you sometimes how much you can rely on the so-called 'experts'!;)
Marco.
not been feeling great so have a drink and go to bed
A Glass of that would probably kill me now.
yup, its a problem to some folk as its addictive to them. im fortunate i can stop without bothering but i know folk who cant. i went from years of booze to none in the snap of the finger..no issues at all, bar missing it
not been feeling great so have a drink and go to bed
Yes, but the feeling not great bit isn't related to the drink, is it? That's my point. So surely you must regret depriving yourself of a wee snifter all that time you were off it?:)
Marco.
Yes, but the feeling not great bit isn't related to the drink, is it? That's my point. So surely you must regret depriving yourself of a wee snifter all that time you were off it?:)

no, its related to forgetting my tablets and pain hit me like a wall:doh:

...and all that time you were unnecessarily depriving yourself of the pleasure!:ner:;)
I've never been addicted to alcohol, or indeed anything else for that matter. I'm just not wired that way. One of the reasons why I've never smoked! That, and the fact that I've always refused to be a sheep/follow the herd and copy everyone else.
Marco.

no, i had to stop at time health wise i think and it was my idea. im fine now that way, and just have a snifter now and then.. not quarter of a bottle or worse
So are you saying at one time you had a drink problem, or your health is better now, so an occasional drink isn't an issue?:)
Marco.
So are you saying at one time you had a drink problem, or your health is better now, so an occasional drink isn't an issue?:)
Marco. No not a problem.. I could afford it ner
Lol, you know what I mean;)
Marco.
Lol, you know what I mean;)
Marco.Well I drank too much no doubt but it wasn't a problem either.
I decided health wise to give body a rest. Its done me good and I can enjoy one now and then without issue now. One or 2 is plenty now as I'm not used to it.
Good result then, mate!
The important thing with alcohol, as indeed with anything else, is always to be in control of IT, and never allow IT to be in control of YOU!

Unless you drink it for reasons. Which people always say the answer aint in the bottom of a bottle. But there is not a cat in hells chance anyone will listen to that.
As you know full well yourself though, alcohol abuse/drinking to excess is never the answer to anything. Always better to deal with problems *at source* than merely apply a bandage to cover them up.

Thats correct but you cannot tel em that because booze is the only answer in their mind. I know full well.
Anyone can be educated to behave differently dude, *providing* that they WANT to be. Some folks though would rather just bury their heads in the sand than face up to their problems.

Yeh but when you see no way to get out of certain issues, depression clouds straight thinking..
I know, that's why you have to seek help, instead of just hitting the bottle. However, you have to ADMIT TO YOURSELF FIRST that you have a problem, before you can take steps to try and fix it.

Marco.
In my opinion there are some things that simply cannot be fixed. The trick is to find out how far you can get before hitting the irrepairable. Once that point is reached the best one can do is come to terms with what is beyond repair and accept having to live with the consequences of that damage. That at least has been my experience (so far); others, of course, may have a different take. Each of us has to work out a way through the challenges we face during our lives which suits our character and capabilities. I don't think my approach is necessarily appropriate for everybody, but for me once I stopped trying to surmount the insurmountable, things became a little more manageable.
Sure... No-one can dispute what works for you, and there's a lot of truth in what you say. As I said though, the first step towards any sort of recovery is to stop kidding yourself on and *admit* that you have a problem. Only then can you attempt to fix it.
In any case, Joanna, I hope you're in a happier place now than you were before:)
Marco.
On a slightly lighter (on topic ;) ) note - some “stockpiling” after we got eggs from the farm and finally some flower from the supermarket! (As well as sorting dinner at the same time.) https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200318/f9733d4248f5e9585cea2e74dfabe67c.jpg

Dinner was what I saved from last night - Sue and I are on “half rations” as we’re trying to eek out what we’ve got, not got great appetites at the moment, and we’re supposed to be losing weight. Hoping to be back into the 13 stone range come Monday weigh in.

Loverly they are.
Little mince Beef balls seasoned, Chopped Red Pepper, Chopped onion, Gurkins, Mozzy cheese. Tomato Puree the Wrap as you would a Pizza base.
Only thing is the wrap will burn if you leave it in long so you have to oven cook the Beef balls, Onions & Peppers first for 5 mins. Then transfer them to the base, Add the Gerkins & Cheese wang it in for 6-7 mins.. Chezzy dont like Gerkins so i do Chopped spring Onion on hers.
Dead quick & perfect for an idle git like moi.
Simple lunch earlier of chicken liver pâté with mushrooms, some melba toast, and an antipasto of Italian cured meats and pickles:

Yeah, I guess that's the issue now. Makes me glad that I started using ours last year. I would encourage others and you though, when things change, to register with your local dairy, as they can be very useful indeed in difficult times.

Hard times now dudes. Have to be a single chicken breast for tea. Gotta make the shopping last til April 3rd.
Why? The shops are still open, and last time I was there [two days ago] was no shortage of food...
Marco.
We're just about to have some lunch, al fresco, as it's a beautiful day here.
Had to take the covers off all the garden furniture and brush the backyard of dead leaves and put the brolly up [the whole lot had been put away for the winter], as the sun's blazing here (currently 18C here and rising), but ready now!
Del's made some broccoli and stilton soup, and we'll be having that, and I'll be having some cold meats and pâté afterwards:)
Might even have a BBQ later!

I do it the other way round. Fry the slices until beginning to brown and finish them in the oven. That way much of the oil drains from the potato pieces. It works.

Looks nice Marco but fuc me you can put snap away. My dinners are Saucer plate size.
Lol - always had a good appetite, mate... Plus, I built one up digging soil, raking up tons of dead leaves and pulling up weeds all day!

The meatballs look FAB, Tony!:)
Only thing I'd say, and it's a personal taste thing, is that I'd have liked a bit more 'liquid' (essentially more of the tomato sauce) on the plate along with the pasta and meatballs - but if desired that would be easily sorted:cool:
Marco.
That was just for the photo really Marco, had plenty more ragu in the pan [emoji4][emoji106]

Made 6 mini cottage pies to freeze (apart from that one).
With horseradish and apple wood smoked cheddar (done at home) mash. Also added some home smoked bacon into the mix.
They turned out to be extremely tasty.

Lovin' that, Jon, particularly how you've made them rather attractively into 'timbales' (or 'stacks' to commoners), lol!:D

Honey, soy and garlic prawns.
6 minutes to cook from start to finish, plus 30 seconds to make the marinade.
Gives me more time for Gin.

Wow... Top-notch cooking, as usual lads! Glad to see that you're still managing to eat well, with things being as they are. Stay healthy, or if not just drink gin, like Jon!:D

My tea (whatever it will be) will be ruined by my digging into a Victoria sponge Anita baked an hour ago (half gone already), and some homemade ginger biscuits :)
was excellent.. chips as tatties are getting long in tooth and its safer to fry em. stew was made back just before xmas and frozen.

Got some pork shoulder steaks for tea. Those things are quite high in fat obviously so only one for me
Well thanks to AOS and Marco I think I am getting a better cup of tea.
I now know what I like and don't like to go with it .
I like short bread biscuits and I really dislike digestive biscuits.
Any favorites I should know about?

Lol... And definitely Coq, not COCK:eyebrows:
Cheers! The chicken was marinated in red wine, bay leaves and other herbs overnight, hence the colour of the meat and richness of he sauce. It was very tasty:)

In the UK Im sure it is Hilarius, but the only tea I drank was iced . Bags in a jar in the sun during very hot days.
Tea was never a thing for me, I didn't grow up around anyone who drank tea. My wife drinks chi tea ,she puts a tea bag in very little water boils it ,removes the bag adds 3x more milk than water then a butt ton of spices.
I wanted to taste the tea, A good tea and found it is a nice change from coffee. I was told to try Digestives with my tea,use no sugar but dip a biscuit. I don't like Digestives. Even our 4 Rats preferred short bread cookies only one would eat the digestive. Now that is funny.
Love digestives.. Mcvities are best

Just looked at your photo - of course the digestives weren't palatable, they were sugar free
Mcvities digestives with tea, no need to dip - it spoils the crunch.
Or ginger nuts, love them (there's an opening if ever there was one).
Prawns, with tomato, chilli and garlic Mezzelune, with sugar snap peas, green beans and brocolli:

Very nice, Barry. Good combination of ingredients and flavours. The straw mats just add to the overall charm!:D
Seriously though, I love those plates, which remind me very much of ones I've often eaten from in restaurants in France:)
