Yep, feel like I need to go and put a shirt, suit & tie on as opposed to the crappy old polyester shorts that have split at the crutch & sweaty grey t shirt I'm actually wearing :)
New arrival, already got the black version on a rubber strap.

A new favourite I think.
Might wear this one a bit more often now I've put a more comfortable strap on it (£3 from ebay, intended for a Samsung smart watch but fits this well)

I've been looking at some really interesting videos on YouTube showing watch repairs, restoration and servicing. They give you a real appreciation of the skill and imagination behind the original design and build and the talent and skills of watchmakers. They also show why servicing and repairing watches is not cheap.
These are very interesting.

I've been heavily into watches, and horology in general, for many moons. But as with many hobbies, I've grown tired of them recently. I have a dozen or so sitting in drawers, but I only wear one which is a Precista Speedbird 3, from Eddie over at TZ.
I've had nigh on a 1,000 watches in twelve or so years, but this one is perfect in every respect for me.
ETA 2824-2 movement, 39mm diameter, clean and clear dial and a bracelet like liquid metal. I recently had the handset painted white (instead of the standard metal) and I had the hands lumed with the brightest stuff available.
Wouldn't bother wearing anything else these days.

Yep, it’s a proper flieger this one. Not too pricey at £500 either. And yes, it puts Seiko lume to shame.

Indeed. Cracking value, beautifully engineered, clear and easy to read.
The mods I had done were £105 and were done by a chap called James Hyman.
Lovely watch, don’t know how they do it for that price with that movement.
If it wasn’t for the fact I’d just bought a Node 2i I’d be sorely tempted.

I find it a little limiting not knowing the temperature in Tibet ;)
No need - it's cold. I've been there. But being high in altitude it is possible to simultaneously suffer from sun burn and frostbite!
One problem however, from a horological point of view, is that the whole of China has a single time zone (that of Beijing). So Lhasa in Tibet is two hours behind Beijing, yet the clocks read the same time.
Nice that too..

Well if you ever travel to India, but don't want to adjust your watch, since India is 5 1/2 hours ahead, all you need to do is leave your watch set to GMT and wear the watch upside down. It helps if the watch only has batons and not numbers on the dial.

A '70s theme fancy dress party? Actually for that you would need to wear a Clive Sinclair 'Black Watch'. :)
Could wear it any time I suppose, you'd just need very long cuffs.

Now on a blue strap

Certainly suits it
Plus it's the right size at 19mm (that 1mm gap with the previous strap really bugged me).
Odd size 19 I'd guess.
Less common than the standard sizes but still getable. The blue leather one was £6 odd & came with a springbar tool & two buckles (one brushed finish & one shiny)

You can use code CA31E to get another 5% off but use the Royal Mail post option without box, if you use the 'free' DHL option you end up paying import charges etc. They are a smaller watch at 38mm & 18mm strap width & if you go for one you'll have to source one of your longer straps. I keep an eye out on ebay for 5s & 'bargain' ones do pop up but they've usually had quite a 'life' lol

I'll get one of those Milanese mesh straps for it, Mondains come with them and anyway I hate that brown thing it comes with lol. I'll just keep saving for a Mondain Stop2go.

Joking aside though that's a generous offer, I've already got three tupperware boxes full of spare straps but I don't know whether Grant might want them (if they were long enough)?

It's all Roy and Grant's fault, I've got the watch collecting bug. I like chronogaphs and interesting dials so the field is wide open.
These two are my most recent buys, the Rotary is a really solid and well built beastie and the Seconda was pretty much thrown in on the deal and I do like the vintage look of it.
As a side note Roy the Mondaine look a like I bought from Amazon is enjoying a holiday somewhere in Germany having been sent to the wrong distribution hub, should be here next week.

They're interesting Ian. Only thing I'm wary of with second hand quartz watches is how much life's left in the battery but having said that if you get them cheaply enough it's not much more to get the battery replaced or even do it yourself with the right tools (cheap enough to obtain off ebay or Amazon).

Many thanks.
Not sure but it's valuable. Couple of grand maybe.

I like that one Roy, as I said previously I'm rather fond of a blue dial.
I know what you mean about the state of the battery in a used quartz watch so I've bought some basic tools, case openers, screwdrivers, tweezers etc so I can change the batteries as a matter of course. I've learned that you should use good quality batteries such as Renatta as this reduces the chances of leaks and they generally perform better.
I've got a couple of automatics coming, pictures to follow when they arrive.

Some of the backs are a pig to get off & once you’ve managed that getting the battery out isn’t always plain sailing. I’ve never understood why watchmakers don’t adopt the Swatch idea with a little battery door you just need a coin to get off.
Looking forward to seeing the autos and hope the Mondaine turns up soon.

I 'lost' a really nice Seiko kinetic a few years back. After an extensive search of the house I gave up looking for it. Recently I was going through some old photos and noticed I was wearing it on a trip into London with a (then) friend who was stopping with me for a few days. I realised that must have been the last time I saw it so I've put 2 and 2 together and come up with thieving bastard.

Sounds as if you've probably worked it out. We had a carer here to help look after Mum, when she went we realised, a load of stuff had gone, including the Tissot that my father was given as an army watch when he was in the Royal Engineers as a Major in WW2.
Funnily enough I'd bought this Seiko with my retirement collection so it did hold a certain sentimental value.

Fascinating stuff, he's got some toys! I'd forget where everything went back.
Must be so satisfying when it's all back together and working well, not keen on Breitlings though.
I've been watching loads of those videos and trying to learn the rudiments of watch mechanics. My toolkit is growing and I've bought some broken watches to dismantle and practice on. I don't think I could ever be a watch maker, the scale is just too tiny for my sausage fingers but the fact that these tiny, intricate machines function so beautifully absolutely fascinates me. With modern tooling and computer design it's amazing to watch all the components doing their jobs, I just can't get my head around how basically the same parts were all made by hand by craftsmen a hundred years ago and these little works of art still function beautifully today.
My limit is changing straps & resizing bracelets & with Parkinson's it's easier to do when my meds have kicked in.
