I like that one Roy. My very first wristwatch, at about the age of 8, was a Timex.
Mine was an 'Imex' at about the same age. But I've worn a watch ever since.

Mine to.
It was a small ‘divers style’ automatic. Also when I was about 8, around 1967.
So it would seem we starred off in the same direction, though ten years apart. :)
I would have gone on to say that the make of all my watches ended with "-ex", but that would be wrong, as I also had an Accurist watch when I was a teenager.
My first watch was a Timex, too! I still have it somewhere in a tin. I will try and find it, it has no strap, though.

I quite like it.
Don’t know much about them, purchased from Mainspring Boutique. Probably assembled in the east, equipped with the Seiko NH35 movement. Although a ‘budget’ watch its very well put together.

They are -
Hamilton started making watches in Switzerland in 1969 when all of the company's manufacturing operations were relocated from the U.S. to Switzerland. This relocation was a result of the company's merger with Buren, a Swiss watchmaker, in 1966. The company eventually relocated to Biel, Switzerland in 2003.

Like the black case and bracelet, but the contrast with the dial makes it a bit "loud"
Easy to read however, but what is the purpose of the small dial?
Think it's a power meter, showing how much "charge" the mechanism has?
Least that's how they work on Panerei watches.

Second 24hr hour hand, don’t see the point really, can’t show a different time? It's to tell you if it's AM or PM as a 12 hour dial doesn't differentiate (except just before midnight when the date starts to change).
The small 24 under the 6 could denote 24 hour but then I'm not sure what the 11 would refer to.
I agree with Roy. The main dial displays a time of 10.11 and 24 seconds, which tallies with that of the smaller dial whose hand is just past 10.
As to being able to distinguish between AM and PM, well that should be obvious, unless one is in either the Arctic or Antarctica!

The sky round Chorley goes darker at night time, and brightens in the morningtime. It helps us tell whether it's am or pm. TV helps too, we get the 'signing dwarf' at night, and funeral plan adverts during the day.

Not true in Chorley, Alaska though. Might come in handy for them - if their telly has gone off due to a power cut or something.
Or they could just call someone and ask if the funeral ads are on, I suppose.

If the design is good enough for a £7k watch it's a no brainer at 35 quid.
Being quartz the £35 one will probably keep better time to.
I agree, but again what is the purpose of the small dial?

Dunno about the one on the cheap watch, no point having two seconds sweeps. But the one on the £7k watch probably tells the wearer how his shares in Rolls Royce Holdings are doing on the stock market :)
It’s a power reserve indicator on the Bell & Ross, tells you whether it needs winding, looks like a second hour hand on the cheapie.
This has Bluetooth, no idea why.

The Seiko solar watch I got for Christmas has been pretty much unworn since then, and has spent its Spring sat on the dressing table. This morning I thought I'd have another go at making putting it on part of my daily routine.
Before that I needed to reset the time, and as I hadn't changed it when the clocks went forward I saw that apart from being an hour slow it is also 7 seconds fast - is that normal? It seems pretty good to me :)
This is what I used to set the time:
https://www.speaking-clock.com/
That's only a little more than a second a month, I think that's pretty good for a mechanical watch.
In order to achieve chronometer status, a watch must keep time correct to within a minute a month. So your watch keeping time correct to a second a month is remarkable.
Easily attained with digital watches, but obviously more difficult with mechanical designs.
BTW, the most accurate time piece one can have is a smartphone!

It wasn't an expensive watch, so I'd expect there to be variations in accuracy. I must have got lucky. I'll check again later this year.

This owes me £8.49 (paid more than that for a strap) and seems to be keeping perfect time.

When I recently checked my watch against the 'speaking clock' it showed that it had gained seven seconds since Christmas, but I'm thinking i may have originally set it against my smartphone or the telly.
Anyway, a re-check today against same speaking clock, exactly three weeks later shows it has gained 3 seconds. So roughly a second per week. Not as accurate as I first thought, but still pretty good I think.
When it comes to engineering, whether it be watches, cars, electronics, Japan really are showing the rest of the world how it's done I think.
The most accurate timekeeper you have is on your smartphone, as it uses the GPS timekeeping to know where you are. The 'speaking clock' is also very good as it is ultimately derived from the atomic clock at the National Physical Laboratory, but there is a very minute delay.

They tell you the ones that have the NH35 movements, effectively a Seiko 5 you'd pay £200 plus for in a UK jewellers. In some cases they're actually better having a sapphire crystal glass rather than Seiko's own 'Hardlex'' crystal which is inferior.

The Ventura’s awesome Roy.
Almost pulled the trigger a couple of times on the more “sedate” XXL Bright Black PVD version, the itch keeps coming around so probably will at some point.
A classic design.
https://www.francisandgaye.co.uk/hamilton-mens-ventura-xxl-bright-black-pvd-quartz-watch-52mm-H24604330-p42519/s50894?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_term=hamilton-men-apos-s-ventura-xxl-bright-black-pvd-quartz-watch-52mm-h24604330&utm_campaign=product%2Blisting%2Bads&cid=GBP&glCurrency=GBP&glCountry=GB&vs_vat=inc&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=16443767985&gbraid=0AAAAADqBQQn_Vqxe2zExf7d-NnrZy3PSn&gclid=EAIaIQobChMInqrex--rkAMVspFQBh0YShenEAQYByABEgKDTPD_BwE
Agree the XXL version has better cosmetics, but I think I would confuse 1 o'clock and 5 o'clock on the watch (at the top and bottom of the dial respectively) with 12 and 6 o'clock on a more conventional design.

A solar powered watch? I suppose I shouldn't be surprised; after all there are self winding watches, battery powered watches, so solar power is the next logical step.
I was wondering if there are 'radio watches', that is watches that are wireless linked to atomic clocks, like the wall clock in our kitchen? Perhaps the Apple watch does the same?

Some analogue, this one for instance

Would never pay that amount for a casio though.
I'm sure there are other manufacturers producing radio controlled watches just not something I've ever looked into.
Agreed, and it's far too 'macho' for my tastes.

My Seiko watch is solar. It's great. Super accurate, and doesn't actually need sunlight to keep going. Mine lives on the dressing table nowhere near the window. Keeps its battery charged, which should go several years before needing replacement.

A couple of my watches. I’m a fan of 90s mid-size Omega’s in particular.

Ha, ha, so it wasn’t even real! (I don’t remember the film, but I am sure I remember that scene.) wonder how much it went for in the end?
Yes just a fake. And it doesn't even work.
Film is available on ITV X so might put it on a bit later.
Meanwhile, got back home and two deliveries. I decided I wanted to buy another watch, have ended up buying 6! Well, if they all get here - 2 still to come from India and one from USA.
First up, it appears to be a genuine Roamer movement, but clearly the rest is a “frankenwatch” and I don’t care one bit, really like it, and goes even better with the blue suit!
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20260211/0525354caf9e8c234b729f82a4c7c560.jpg
And my second delivery, a Seiko 5. For some reason I thought Seiko’s are a lot more expensive than they are new, but having done a lot of searching and googling I really fancied something “vintage”- well, 20th century. I have decoded the serial numbers and it is either December 76, 86, or 96 - my money is on 86. Advertised on Vinted for only £60 and described as “looks like new” and whilst that’s a little OTT, it certainly is exceedingly good condition for a watch at least 30 years old. I remember commenting on one of Roy’s watches that I liked the 24 hours, so a “Railway time” Seiko seemed a good idea. I absolutely love it! Problem is, despite 4 other watches in transit (stay tuned for when they arrive!) I now want more vintage Seikos…. Oh dear, as Roy says, more addictive than hi-if!

And only 60 quid? I'd have that :)
That Seiko is well tasty.
Thanks Martin, I really do love it, if I'd paid ten times what I did, I would still be grinning! it's only 36mm case size so smaller than modern watches but for me they're far too big these days for formal wear.
I'm pretty much the only bloke at work who still wears a suit and tie, and I always wear a 3 piece with a tie and matching pocket square, then same colour socks to match. I do get the piss ripped out of me but it's been my "thing" for 30+ years, so I ain't going to change now! Anyway, I foresee a vintage watch in the appropriate matching colour joining each ensemble soon! This one will go with anything, but 3 of the 4 in transit are more colourful options!
I'm not keen on the big watches either, they just don't look right to me even on a chunky wrist.
I mean it's only one step from that to having a kitchen clock hanging round the neck like a rapper.
The quartz watch graveyard recovered from the bedroom, some not working for decades or even looked at.

Bought myself a cheapo watch tool kit off Amazon (£13.99) and an assorted pack of 50 watch batteries (£7.99) and gradually working through them. Done 4 tonight, that’s enough for one go (There are 15 in total, but some are too naff to bother repairing!)
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20260212/0b8ed11bc2361ed5232d58072660bb02.jpg
There’s a Casio digital in there which proudly states “10 Year Battery” and it’s still going strong! More like 20 years! Has gained an hour and fifteen though!
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20260212/0d1badbff606c06d5ddca0fe7e45be6b.jpg
Today’s fixer-upper - Timex Indiglo (press the crown for night light), couldn’t get the back back on last night, so ordered a press from Amazon which just arrived and hey presto, literally, all sorted. That’s another £15.99 invested in my fixit kit, though, but still means I will have saved plenty on the cost of taking them to get fixed. (£29.98 spent, excluding batteries.)
This one needs a new strap, really, loved it at the time and worn a lot.(looks like it has a scratch on the glass but it's not, must be a reflection.)

Good for you Alex - one has standards to maintain! And like you I dislike the current fashion for big watches: the case diameter of my watch is 34mm.
