New strap for the Monaco and an external shot.

Just put a new battery and strap on this for partner’s daughter, bit of fun I suppose.

Yes, that's a bit too 'far out' even for me.
Had this a little while, just sized the bracelet.

Top flight footballers and managers (apart from the obvious Rolexes) seem to plump for ugly, expensive watches.
Frank Lampard's Richard Mille (average $500,000 - $800,000)

Harry Redknapp generally sports a Audemars Piguet Royal Oak, here he is helping to advertise Watches of Switzerland
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=84uscUy7uqQ
ok if you get it for nowt i suppose, which they probably do.
Clearly a man of taste, but Audemars Piguet produced several models under the 'Royal Oak' banner. Tasteful models such as this:
https://assets.xupes.com/Images/Product/36316/MultiImages/Main/009_Royal-Oak-Stainless-Steel-Ladies-56175ST.jpg
and less-than-tasteful 'blingy' models such as this one:
https://images.watchfinder.co.uk/imgv2/stock/144136/AudemarsPiguet-RoyalOakOffshore-26288OF.OO.D002CR.01-144136-2-200616-102209.jpg;quality=90;h=425
Amongst collectors of expensive watches, Audemars Piguet have always been preferred over the likes of Omega and Rolex.
I got it wrong anyway, Harry wears a Hublot Big Bang (very similar to the blingy AP Royal Oak Offshore model).

(Wake up 'arry!)
Amongst collectors of expensive watches, Audemars Piguet have always been preferred over the likes of Omega and Rolex.
Although it's true AP watches hold their value Rolex and Patek do better on the second hand market, look at the prices just the stainless steel versions of the Daytona and Nautilus change hands for and my humble Explorer 2 & Submariner have both almost doubled in value. Even the previously unfancied Datejust is selling for over retail!
Frank Lampard's Richard Mille (average $500,000 - $800,000)
I don't care how expensive they are, IMO they are all hideous to look at: https://www.richardmille.com/collections :(
(I assume they are as expensive as they are because each one is hand made to order.)

My Rolex was bought for me by my parents 50 years ago, so has obvious sentimental value as well as having performed impeccably over the years. It has been all over the world with me, and suffered temperature extremes of -20C to +40C.
However if money was no object, today I would be looking at: Audemars Piguet; Vacheron Constantin; Patek Philippe. and Jeager-LeCoultre first, before other marques.
Today we're 'WIDE AWAKE!'

That version of the APRO is the classiest, no doubt.
A sterile 'homage' (thinking I may sell all these anonymous homage type watches, for some of them I have a superior version or the real thing).

This might have been talked about previously, so apologies if it has, but having done the usual tricks to clean my steel Rolex Explorer II, it was looking rather grubby, and very lightly scratched in the great sunshine of late.
I’d been warned against using stuff like silvo etc, even though it used to clean up my bi metal Daytona a treat.
So what is this marvel I’ve discovered?
Toothpaste!
I was actually gobsmacked after I’d cleaned my watch with it, and would highly recommend it’s use!
Disclaimer: use at your own risk!

My Dad would drag me and my brothers to Football games from a young age.
He always advised me to be unbiased. Thus we watched my Coventry City against Brian Clough's Nottingham Forest.
I found the game confusing. Couldn't tell one Forest player from another. They all looked exactly the same.
Turn's out Brian Clough sent the whole team to the same Barber,
He had no time for individuality, it's all about the Team. And winning.
Anywhoo, what Dad pointed out to me at Half-Time, was Nigel Clough of Forest had an excellent first touch. No, I am a bit vague on first touch myself. But it's about control.
Back on-topic, I did predict 2-1 to England here. Quite honestly we might toss a coin on England vs. Italy.

But perhaps better on the footy thread?
A fair point, well made.
Don't know how that happened.
Chap is not dressed without a wristwatch, IMO.
But has anyone noticed, as I have, that batteries only last 2 years now. They used to last 5 years.
I suspect a conspiracy to defraud the Public. FWIW, Rotary and Ben Sherman here.

I (obviously) wholeheartedly agree.
Latest Casio batteries reckon they'll last ten years (always depending on how often you press the 'light' button).
For analogue type quartz watches I crown pull them, effectively switching the watch off.
A chap is not dressed properly without a pocketwatch old chap ;)

My experience of wristwatches is limited.
I know my Dad owned a solid 22 carat Gold Omega wristwatch. It was unclear what happened to it after he died.
Somebody ran off with it.
Believe me, I'll catch up with them one day.
Anywhoo, Dad flied us all off to Switzerland one Summer. Arosa, IIRC. Took us to the local wristwatch Shop. The Swiss are tremendously good on time.
I was smitten with a watch called "Jaggi". Maybe with an umlaut over the A. It had a crocodile band. Very classy IMO. Dad bought it for me.
A good timepiece. But similarly disappeared. I suspect I forgot about it when my lovely sister bought me a self-wind Rotary with no hour markings at all.
Now I know who stole that one. But have forgiven them. But it was a thing of loveliness.
Apropos battery replacement - it is my belief that with any battery powered device, the battery initially fitted will alway last longer than any subsequent battery.
Some makes of battery last longer than others, as well as having different mAhour rating. Also avoid any batteries that are made in China - most of them don't last five minutes!
When it comes to watch batteries, I go to Timpsons (the shoe repairers and key cutters) and pay a bit more to have a lifetime battery replacement service for each of our battery-powered watches.
After experiencing a few scratched back plates I replace my own batteries, appropriate tools and decent batteries can be had for pennies on ebay.
Timpson have all the appropriate tools, and I have never experienced a scratched back plate. Mind you between my partner and me, we only have about a half dozen watches that need batteries.
Having in excess of 50 quartz watches I wouldn't want to be bothered with a visit to Timpsons every time one died (don't even know where my local branch is?).
More often than not I already have a battery that will fit (they're so cheap on ebay and often sold in multiples).
Different strokes...

It's known as a 'Seagull 1963' and is a mechanical chronograph.
Seagull are a precision manufacturer. I first came across the name as a manufacturer of cameras, whilst visiting China in 1987. I'm not surprised to learn they also make watches.
Seagull are a precision manufacturer.
& to be fair George was a very good actor.
They get good reviews on watch collectors' sites. Originally developed from an existing Swiss Minerva design for the Chinese PLA airforce, they have a certain 'retro' charm about them; and you would have to pay a few thousand pounds for a Swiss alternative, rather than the few hundred Seagull ask.
That said, I wouldn't be seen dead wearing one. :D

Sadly there will be some Chinese made chips in my TV and in my car, but I knowingly avoid/boycott ostensible Chinese goods. A few have slipped throught the net: some kitchen utensils bought from IKEA, and my 'North Face' outdoor jacket was made in China.
i dont deliberately buy chinese but i dont fret too much about it. i dont want to help the ccp but cant help feeling sorry for their workers, and if they get no sales then the starve; not the ccp
I'd better send that new Audiolab CD transport back then & I won't be able to buy new Tannoys in the future.
Are Tannoy (part of the US Harman Group) made in China?

I believed that to be the case but my Legacy Ardens were apparently 'manufactured in the UK'. I thought the Scottish factory had shut down and production moved to China?

I remember the days when if something said it was 'Made in [insert country here]' then it was actually made there. Nowadays almost everything is built in China with a sticker on it that suggests otherwise, if only because the head office is somewhere else.
Bosch being a primary one for that.
Even AEG are Swedish! I'd bet any money they manufacture in China.
Certainly all the better known and top of the range Tannoys are made in the UK. Some mid range models such as the Mercury are made in China, and the MX2 is made in Malaysia.
The question is whether "made" means assembled using UK sourced components, or assembled using local sourced components. This a problem Quad have had with their amplifiers. After joining the IAG, the whole group was sold to a Chinese partnership. Items such as the amplifiers continued to be made (assembled) in China using UK sourced components, but after a while, capacitors sourced from within China were used in their place, to the detriment of sound quality.

The contrasting copper coloured numbers, pushers & crown make it an interesting watch I think, this one might stay on longer than a day!
My first watch was a Timex. I think I was 8 at the time. :)
My first was a Timex - I think that it must have been my "starting school present", I remember being very upset when a boy in my class (Ian) hit it with a spade in the sandpit :(
My second was also a Timex. I used to walk to and from primary school and remember walking home during a torrential downpour (I think that I was about eight) to find that the bloody thing had filled up with water by the time that I got home.
Not much luck with Timex

Terrible to admit I’ve never actually thoroughly cleaned any of my watches but then I rarely wear them long enough to get dirty. Usually give them a rub over before I put them on.
I’d use a stiff toothbrush and warm water (being careful near the case if water resistance is minimal), dab dry with a paper kitchen towel then finish off with a polishing cloth.

Steer clear of wipes that contain alcohol though as they may degrade seals and gaskets plus I'd be concerned wipes might leave a residue that attracts more dust/dirt.

oops, i better not :lolsign::lolsign:

I've always assumed (perhaps wrongly) that as they were intended for use on skin the liquid on the wipes would contain a certain amount of moisturiser that would be absorbed by the skin but not, of course, by impermeable material.
I've always assumed (perhaps wrongly) that as they were intended for use on skin the liquid on the wipes would contain a certain amount of moisturiser that would be absorbed by the skin but not, of course, by impermeable material.
 I don't use the wipes to moisturise, I use them to clean the equipment. The knobs are bead blasted and the fascia a black semi-matte anodised finish. The use of baby wipes was recommended to me by a service engineer who works with 'high end' audio gear. Skin cells shed from the fingers will build up with time on the controls that are used a lot, such as the input selector and the volume control.
As for my few watches, they rarely get dirty so I may only use a duster or polishing cloth. The only watch which used to get dirty was my Rolex which I wear in 'parts foreign': driving across dusty deserts or trekking in hot sweaty countries, that sort of thing. But as it is waterproof, it is easy to clean
 I don't use the wipes to moisturise
I wasn't suggesting you did  , I was just pointing out a 'babywipes' primary purpose (to wipe babies  ).
They're not things I routinely purchase in any case. I barely touch the controls on any of my gear anyway relying on the remotes, which now you come to mention it could do with a good 'wipe' :D
Nice clear LCD on this new g shock (and you won't lose it in the dark!).
