Nice one!
Do you pull the crown out to conserve the battery when not in use Barry?
Oh - I didn't know you could do that. Will give it a try, thanks Roy.
Just tried, and the second sweep had has stopped. Again thanks Roy for that tip.
I would have just left the battery to run down and rely on Timpsons lifetime supply. But better still would be to wear the watch more often - you don't see that many square or rectangular case watches worn these days. Or those with a leather strap.

Effectively switches the watch off and not too onerous a task to reset the hands on a nice simple design like your Bulova.

I use the Timpsons Lifetime Guarantee scheme for the batteries for our digital watches (all two of them). :)

I have no clue what this watch has to do with fishing (other than having the word on it's dial), I just liked the style and it's a nice conservative size (for a change).

Is it a bit worrying when your ecstatically happy about tracking down an old Casio strap that matches your retro Timex perfectly?
(Only problem with strait jackets is that the sleeves are always too long :drugs: )

A straight jacket must be your worse nightmare Roy as you wouldn’t be able to see your watch never mind change it every few hours!
That straps a great match, and I love the crazy dial numbers on the other one.
Got the Monaco back this weekend,
After nearly 4 months back at Swiss HQ for full service.
Full mechanical work over (parts stripped, cleaned and full Regulation on reassembly)
New Crystal
New Crown
Rewaterproofed (with New Gaskets)
Case Polish
New strap and Deployment clasp
Part of my Boys Inheritance,
So keeping it in top nic is worth it.

Looking good Gary. What had happened to the crystal & crown?
Changed the strap on mine, don't find those deployment clasps very comfortable.

It's called a California dial Alex, our Barry's not keen on them :D
Nothing Roy,
Far as I knew they were tip top?
Just part of the service I guess.
The blue sunburst on your Calliber 12 is awesome,
Happy mine's has (half!) that, which is different from the flat blue of the non Gulf one
Another shocking dial? Those Arabs and Romans are right mixing it up!

That dial would drive me around the bend! KISS! Choose either all Arabic numerals or Roman - just don't mix them.
(Even better would be a 'Bauhaus' dial - just hour markers with no numerals at all.)

Is the one you posted an automatic / mechanical watch or a quartz / battery?

Only got one Invicta quartz but it's fine. You can pull the crown out when you're not wearing it and effectively switch the watch off conserving the battery.
These things are awful, can't understand why people like them so much. I'd sell it but I really don't want to inflict it on anybody else

They are nice solid, heavy watches.
This one had a sky blue strap on and looked a bit feminine, different look on a black rubber one.

Never really got on with it, tried it on 5 or 6 different straps, ultimately decided it was really too big for my wrist so I've stuck it on ebay.
Time to choose a 'dress' watch for later, whittled it down to three, probably go with the retro Timex.

Yes, definitely the Timex if you're wearing a DJ.
Went with the odd Orient. Happy New Watches

I've always thought of the vintage watch market as a bit of a minefield but then I don't know enough about the subject, would be interested to see more of your collection.

early seventies calibre 12 same as the “Steve McQueen” Monaco which is on my list of watches to own ….. now fetching crazy money , the date is a unfortunately and very annoying something that’s got to be fixed as the date wheel is worn and needs replacing but they aren’t available anymore

Yesterday my partner and I were looking at gold necklaces in the local jewellers. They are agents for inter alia Rolex, and are where I go to have my watch serviced.
Whilst she looked at gold necklaces, I looked at the Rolex watches. My goodness, Rolex have let their fame go to heads and are now producing watches with some of the most vulgar cosmetics around! I then looked at the Omega watches and even the most complicated diver's chronometer had much more style than the Rolex offerings. Same too with Longines and (ahem) Tudor. Not only much cheaper, but obviously without the 'Veblen' association.

Probably the only ones they've got left to sell, steel sports models are like hen's teeth.

Probably the only ones they've got left to sell, steel sports models are like hen's teeth.
It was neither the strap/bracelet nor the case I found vulgar, it was the hideous designs of the dial face and of the markings: such as the use of diamonds for the hours, or the use of Roman numerals which are disproportionate in size with respect to that of the facia.
I also find the repeated "ROLEX" marked around the edge of the dial (not sure the correct term for it) unnecessary and 'bling'. (I know it has been introduced as an anti-forgery measure but to my mind it looks ugly.)
Put simply present day Rolex watches lack the elegance and style of yesteryear.

The middle one is lovely, very classy. Shame I don’t go anywhere to wear a nice watch these days!
They're really quite inexpensive pieces Alex, around the £40 mark and I'm actually looking to move that one on, drop me a pm if you fancy it :)

Nice - from a time before Rolexes went 'bling'.
yes Barry not keen on the newer subs either , I’m trying to trade my way up to a birth year 66 5513 , I prefer the classic “Steve McQueen” no date window sub , I traded a Blancpain Aqua Lung for the Sub as I just didn’t bond with it due to its size I think mainly, it looked tiny on my wrist

Found this amongst some bits in the loft a few weeks back, was intrigued when I saw swiss made on the dial, flipped it over and it's made by Mondaine who make the swiss railway watches. Popped a new battery in it and away it went! (think I bought it in Debenhams about 30 years ago, looks like it's seen some action)
