Now that's more like it - everything you would want from a watch, with none of the 'bling'.
Purists aren’t keen on the 4:30 date window but if you had it in the usual place you’d lose the numeral 3, which balances the face nicely.

Here's my Speedmaster. It's what they call 'pre-moon' in that it's the same reference that went to the moon but it doesn't have the moon inscription on the back. Bezel and hands are service replacements (and pushers and crown for all I know), but I like it. 50 years ago, who would believe it?

Like the skeleton strap watch Grant, strikes just the right balance between being decorative & still being able to tell the time. I have a Fossil skeleton but it’s not as elegant

I've 'lost' a very nice Seiko kinetic in the house somewhere, I bought it with the collection I got when I retired so it's got a sentimental attachment but I've had cupboards out and no sign. I know it's in the house somewhere, so frustrating.

I’m really not sure Alex, it’s a bit of a movable feast. A bit like hifi gear I’ll keep a watch for a while then move it on, I’ve usually got a couple listed on eBay at any one time. There is a core of favourite watches I’ll never sell which includes my more exotic timepieces.

I rather like this one, and the Fossil, I could spend a good amount of time watching the gears move.
Long ago, my then wife and I were shopping in this gallery in Manteo NC, and I saw a wrist watch on the floor, so I picked it up. I asked the clerk on the way out if anyone reported loosing a watch, and no one had. After we got back to the car I looked at it, and it was a woman’s Rolex! I took it to a Rolex dealer and had it cleaned and serviced, and I imagine she’s still wearing it now. My family was stunned, “You gave your wife a Rolex?”. It looked exactly like the Men’s Rolex you posted earlier, but smaller.

It's a really nice looking watch, in a very similar style to the vintage Rolex I had years ago. A great example of how good design lasts.

Looks like a pink gold / copper dial Chronographe Suisse. There were quite a few variants of this back in the 50s-60s. I like them a lot.

Yes it's a Chronographe Suisse with a Landeron movement.
I think this one is from the 50's but we don't know who in the family was the original owner.
I had it fully serviced about 3 months ago at Hollins in Dudley and wear it quite regularly.

How far back in the family can you trace it? I assume it must have been a man, a generation or two older? It's a great piece to have in the family.

I've had this since 1993, cost me £140 new. It's taken a few good knocks in its day but 26 years faithful service ain't bad. It's good to a few seconds every month usually.
However, I stopped wearing it everyday a couple of years ago because of:
A) middle age spread
B) getting a smartphone.
I eventually found my spare link and had it adjusted. However the watch just doesn't seem to hold a kinetic charge anymore. I think the battery is shot. They are £380 new now for kinetic, or about 200 for solar.

Had a couple of Swatchs, generally not keen on battery watches but Swatch make it easy to change them.
I tend buy mostly quartz watches these days. I know they don't have the soul of a nice automatic, but the accuracy and reliability are key for me. I've had mixed success with autos, the Breitling colt was very good, but a couple of years ago I had an automatic Seamaster and it was the worst time keeper I've haver had (it lost 3 or 4 mins a week), even after a service. And neither the watch or the service were particularly cheap, so that put me off. Having said that, I very recently had a Tag F1 calibre 5 auto, that was pretty good.

Yes, mines definitely 'coloured in', hairs on our arms nearly match though. What movement has yours got? Mine has an NH35A in it.

I can't imagine what sort of movement you are going to get in a sub £20 watch. having said that, a mate at work puts size and make of watch as the most important factors, therefore any watch of reasonable size and budget that I was wearing was obviously a "woman's watch", so to annoy him I bought and wore the most flowery, cheapest, pinkest watch I could find, it was less than a fiver inc posting, and for the 5 or 6 months the battery lasted it was pretty spot on.

So now I only ever buy second hand watches knowing that if I want to change it in a few months or a year, I'll get back roughly what I paid for it.

Straps are always too short. I need min 9.5 inches just to get around wrist plus a bit to tuck in.

Ive only just realised that my watch is a left handed watch. Which ironically means i should wear it on my right hand. I don’t though, but i do have to take it off to change the date on those odd months.... lol
I think i will look to getting this watch of mine serviced and a new capacitor. Thanks for the help

They've certainly been "inspired" by the Mondaine. It's actually not a bad looking watch, but it's a bit too cheeky to consider.

Not sure how many you have, but why not flog the lot and get a quality timepiece ?
And I mean that in a nice way, not sure how much yer collection is worth, but how's about a nice gold Rolex, or plain Patek, Hublot anyone......etc etc etc.

They look interesting. I've never heard of them, but they seem to use the same movements as some Christopher Ward models. I've never owned a CW but have read that they offer good VFM.

Aside the day/date complications being at 6 and 12 looks very similar.
My favourite part of this watch is the way the numerals catch the light, sometimes the face looks black until you twist your wrist and the numbers pop.

Hamilton don't get the recognition they deserve. I've never seen one that didn't feel like a quality watch. They have such a wide range at sensible prices. I'm surprised I don't see them more often.

Been messing about with this Ebay ‘cheapy’ today to. Took the ridiculously poor stainless steel bracelet off and added this cloth strap to match the dial / bezel colour. Looks ok but maybe a little too ‘unisex’ for me, will probably gift it to someone it might suit better.

According to the paperwork that came with it it was originally purchased in November last year, it was on a poor quality black plastic strap, I've replaced this with a sage green silicone strap which, I think, suits it well.

I loved working on vintage Longines watches, they made some of the best watches available in their day and are a joy. This Conquest I bought off eBay, it was in a right state but I managed to fully refurbish it and get it back into running order...still one of my favourites today.

Although it has a badly repaired dial it's still fairly rare, and does work although mainspring is stiff. It was replaced but I thi g the guy made a cock of it. Lol

My Hamilton 669 traffic special. This is a Swiss re issue from 50's.
No serial no as was their way. Its on the case which is marked Hamilton too.
Great watch tho and was my daily wear for years.

Much respect for mastering that type of intricate work. I've managed resizing & changing straps & also changing batteries but that's about as far as my 'skills' go. It's mainly done in an attempt to maintain my manual dexterity.
That’s a fine collection Grant. Oldest watch I’ve got is Dad’s gold ‘Zenta’. I recall him having the mainspring replaced, it was some time later he noticed that the gold winder was no longer gold [emoji853]

Yes, I have an apple watch but much prefer a traditional timepiece (plus when you see what your heart rate reaches sometimes it scares the life out of you).

Seriously though 4 is probably as many as anyone would really need, couple of nice 'sports' models & a couple of 'dress' watches (perhaps one stainless, one gold).
I do try to work on the basis of one in one out so for every new watch I buy I sell one I've done with (with some of my older Seikos I made a profit on each one. Also if I see a watch on ebay I know is underpriced I buy it then relist it at a slightly later date with a starting price that makes me a little bit of bunce, often they go for a bit more).
My other half thinks I'm a little bit obsessional about watches & is worried this is linked to the meds I take for a neurological condition I have (obsessive behaviour is a known side effect). That might be so but looking at the balance sheet I'm only a little down so no harm done :)

Evisu, a fashion brand I think. Had it some years, used to be on a black leather strap &, if I'm honest, that would suit it better. Coloured straps, especially silicone ones, only really work on diver's watches.

does everthing I want eg tells me the time and is a reasonable size
I cant do analogue watches as it takes me ages to work out what time it is really get confused by the ones with three fingers, cant deny that they look realy nice
